My friends say my ichat is always on invisible even when i set my status to availible??

When i chat with my friends, they can never start a chat or a video chat with me because they say i am always invisible, even when my computer has a green light and says i'm availible. how do i make myself not inbvisible to my contacts?

I would check for th possibility that you are logged in twice.
This includes AIM Express or even just logging in to the AIM web site as it has a default 2 week login period if you don't specifically log out. (remember phone Log ins as well)
If you are using Lion iChat 6 then go the the iChat Menu > General Section and untick the item that shows the Buddy List as one.
Then change the Status Message on each Buddy List in turn.

Every time I start Firefox in an unpriveleged login I get an error box saying that an update installation has failed, even when it's up to date.

Firefox 19.0.2; on Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3 build 2600.xpxp_sp3_gdr_130105-0416.
I normally work using minimal privileges - so the user from which I mostly run Firefox doesn't have sufficient privilege to install a Firefox update. Now and again I log in as a privileged user, start firefox, and grab the latest version. However it happens quite frequently that Firefox goes into a mode where on Firefox startup I get an error window saying that it failed to install the update. When that window is dismissed, Firefox starts up and of course it's the latest version. Nothing I have tried appears to have any effect on this, but always after some period of time - in which I will have logged in and out a few times and probably started and stopped Firefox dozens of times - for no reason that I can discern it stops producing this error message and begins to start up without the error. This lasts a few days, and then it reverts to getting the error message.
In case it's useful to anyone, the error window is labelled

I have of course done what the window tells me; it has no effect (if it had that would mean the OS security was broken) which is a good thing but suggests that the message in the window is a bad thing. I also tried updateing from the Firefox help menu (and was relieved to see that didn't work). Using a priileged user to install the update gives the unprivileged user the latest version, but doesn't ,ake the startup message go away.
I have a suspicion that what is happening is that Firefox running in unprivileged mode finds a security update, downloads it, and fails to install it, instead of recognising that it's running in unprivileged mode and just warning the user than an update is available; once it has done that the update remains downloaded in the unprivileged user's space, and even when the update is installed by the privileged user so that all users now have the updated version Firefox tries to install it despite its being already installed whenever the unprivileged user starts it up. If so, that would be a rather unpleasant problem, since it would tend to encourage people always to login with sysadmin privileges.

SMF service always shows offline even when it is up and running

I have added a service to SMF under /var/svc/manifest/application and am successful in starting it, but state always shows offline. How can I get it to show up as "online"?

Turns out I just needed to launch the app as a background task (use & in my svc method file) and it works fine.

IPhone Calendar Events ALWAYS have sound even when event on the Mac does not. How do I turn sound OFF on these events?

I make a new event, I set the Alert = Message (NOT "message with sound"). When event happens on the iMac there is no sound. Same event, syched to the iPhone, has sound.
I have deleted events, recreated, synched. Absolutly certain Alert is "message only." No change in behavior.
I have checked all preferences. iCal is set to automatically add an alert but I make sure I add the alert myself without sound.
I just found the iPhone settings/sounds/calendar.alerts and I set this to "vibrate only." I assume this will shut off the sound on ALL calendar alerts. That's not really what I want to do (I want sound on some events, just not on every event) but if that's the only option available I'll take it.
Can I get the iPhone to do what I tell it to do instead of overriding my settings?

Auto or Always Continue Action even when error is encountered

I have setup an action that selects a layer in my file and clears all smart filters and layer styles. I have setup another action that plays this previous action 10 times to ensure that all the layers are selected and formatted. However if it finds a layer that doesn't have a filter or layer style it gives me a warning box and asks if I want to continue playing the action. Is there a way to have it play through the action and automatically continue playing the action even if it encounters one of theses layers? This would be helpful since sometimes only a few of the layers have these filters or styles but I want all of them to be selected and cleared without me having to click continue several times.

Here is a script I cobbled together. It will go through all the layers in a document and delete all smart filters and layer styles.
Copy it to a text file and save it with a .jsx extension.

FED UP - although I have done everything advised by Firefox to allow cookies from sites - there are still several that say I do not have cookies enabled - even when I do? Any more suggestions?

Sparseimage says not enough room to move items, even when there is

Hi. I've created and used sparseimages successfully in the past for storing content that I want to be kept secure. Today though, I created a new sparseimage of 20GB using Disk Utility. When I tried to move files into it that were much smaller than 20GB (like 4GB), it wouldn't let me move them into the new sparseimage, and instead told me that there wasn't enough free space. This has never happened to me before, and I'm not sure why an empty sparseimage, created to hold up to 20GB, won't let me transfer files into it. I have 23 GB remaining on my hard drive in general, so it shouldn't be a problem of not enough space to make the copy. Thanks for any advice!

It would appear that you need much more free space on your Boot volume then, even if you have plenty of space on the external for the DMG, the boot drive will still need space to use for VM & Temp files for making it on the external Drive.
You're in danger of corrupting the Internal drive with that little space, not to mention the great speed reduction.
In a pinch, there are ways to set VM to use an external drive, but I don't recommend it.

Files in itunes Library always in use, even when itunes is not running.

Spotify always starts automatically even when asked not to.

Hello, I am running Windows 7 Professional. Can you please correct the Spotify desktop application so it does not keep forgetting my preference to NOT start when Windows starts. If I set it to "no" in the advanced settings, it conveniently forgets this and starts anyway, at which point upon returning to the settings I find that it has been changed back to "yes" or "minimised". When I said no I meant no - I even removed it using MSConfig but it's still finding a way to start. I want to run it when I want to listen to music, not to have it sitting idle in the background clogging up resources when I'm not using it. Please fix or it's a fast track to uninstall.

After you have changed the preferences to "no" ,try deleting "prefs" file in "user"/AppData/Roaming/Spotify andWhen you run spotify.exe next time it should make a new "prefs" file with your "no" preference in it.

My friend says I'm offline when I sign into iChat.

We can still IM each other but her buddy list says I'm offline. I checked to see if I'm invisible and I'm not. Help?

Mostly this appears to be happening in iChat 6 or Message beta.
In both these versions the default is to have all the Buddy Lists you have display in a combined list.
There is a setting in the App Menu > Preferences > General Section that can be used (unticked) to undo this.
Then it is a question of checking the Status drop down in each Buddy List to see if 1) one of them is set to Invisible and 2) that the option to make all Statuses the same is not selected in one of them.
By Default only AIM and Yahoo accounts can be Invisible (AIM included any name valid as an AIM Login)
when the "Set Same Status..." is set then even Jabber (Google and FaceBook included) can "appear" to be set to Invisible.
There is anecdotal evidence that in some cases what is set for one Buddy list "Crosses over" to other when it shouldn't.
An example of this is that if you set "Send as I type" in the Bonjour Account in effects the Yahoo account you may have.
Other causes
These mainly include Setting the status via another Login that has not been logged out for some reason or is logged in in such a way that that is it overriding the current login.

DateTime on Clock always is wrong even after setting it

    I installed Windows Server 2008 R2 but this question would
fit any server version.
    The problem is that the DateTime is always wrong.
    Even though I set it to the correct time everytime I reboot.
    How can I make the DateTime stay correct or even boot
up with the correct time when the server reboots?
