My fw800 running 10.5.8 will not migrate to new Mac Mini running snow leop

My install of snow leopard on the Mac Mini was normal. But I can not successfully migrate my 10.5 stuff to the new mini. I have gone through the migration process at least 10 times. It appears to be running normally but it never finishes. It starts at about 6 hours and gets down to about 2 hours. It sometimes just quits. Sometimes it starts counting back to a longer time left. Some times you get a warning that there might be a problem with my network and to check my cables. I don't believe that after transferring data for 4 hours my cables are bad. The 360 GHz disk on my Mac mini has only 76 GHz left. I have to assume that must have 200GHz of partial transfer garbage on the disk. My only thought is to try firewire instead of using the network but I have to go buy the correct cable tomorrow. I am probably stuck with reloading the 10.6 in any case. Anyone have any thoughts on my messy problem??

As my Mac mini HD was garbaged up, I put in the snow leopard install CD, used disk util to wipe the mini HD and reinstalled snow leopard. After the install the first couple of windows ask if you want to import your old data. I chose wireless, connected to my old FW800. The complete transfer took an hour including all applications. I was not about to start from square one with all of the apps. Using the network to transfer did not work. The wireless method worked perfectly and quickly. Thanks Bob

  • External backup drive will not mount on new mac mini. still works fine on the old one. new one is running mavericks

I just bought new-to-me mac mini running OSX mavericks.
Trying to migrate from old mac mini using simpletech external hard drive.
It still mounts on my old mac mini (system 10.5) but will not mount or show up when I plug it in to the new mac mini running mavericks.
    Any ideas?

What exactly shows in System Profiler>Hardware>USB for those drives?
Boot from the Install Disc & see if they show up, not grayed out in Disk Utility.
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
We were thinking along the same lines. While at home I dug up a firewire enclosure and put a bootable GUID formatted drive in it (that I had in one of the usb enclosures) and started her computer holding down the option key and then chose to boot from the external firewire. All usb drives are now mounting upon connection. I asume that her drive has bad sectors on it (even though the SMART status says it's OK) and is not loading all the drivers properly for USB to mount. I was suspicious from the beginning that the OS was corrupt when she first had me look at it. It was at that point that I booted it in target mode, connected to my Macbook Pro, and then CCC'd to a usb drive that I had. I then had a couple of difficulties installing the new OS. Should have known......
I am now going to put a new drive in it for her and she'll be up and running.
Thanks so much for your help and thoughts that got me thinking as well.

  • Windows 7 will not install on new Mac Mini

Everything on the installation works flawlessly... from partitioning, to formatting NTFS, to choosing (x32 or x64) version *I've tried both*.... I get the options to choose date and time prefs, passwords, etc..... then on the final reboot to fire up Windows... it hangs with a blinking cursor in the left upper.... never finishes booting.
This is on the new Mac Mini with 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 500GB HD, NVidia 320M GPU.
I have been able to get XP to install correctly, but I'd prefer running Windows 7 for the ability to read the extra RAM.

Is this not the same like the black screen on the iMac?
With the iMac, we had to remove the ati drivers in order to continue. The steps I did with the iMac are as follows:
    35. Boot from the Win7 install DVD.
    36. Click Next
    37. Click Repair your Computer
    38. Select "Restore your computer using a system image that you created earlier
    39. Click Next
    40. Click Cancel
    41. Click Cancel
    42. Click Command Prompt
    43. > c:
    44. cd c:\windows\system32\drivers\
    45. del ati*
    46. Close the command prompt
    47. Click Restart
This time, Windows should successfully initialise a more appropriate display driver, allowing you into the desktop.

  • Apple wired keyboard not identified by new mac mini running mavericks

Ayone having this problem?  Started when I upgraded to Mavericks.

I've experiened this exact problem with two different MBA mid-2011 (one 11", one 13"), both of them upgraded to Mavericks. We use Apple Thunderbolt displays, which are supposed to attach all your USB devices attached to the monitor hub on reattachment of the power (1st) and thunderbolt cable (2nd). This all worked as-designed until the upgrade to Mavericks. since then, the Apple wired keyboard will NOT detect on the USB host when attachments are wired up. Instead, we must reach around the back of the monitor and unplug the keyboard, wait a few seconds, then reinsert it back to the same (or different) port.
Of interest, both the wired mouse and the wired superdrive have no issues whatsoever, even though they're plugged into the same hub (the Thunderbolt monitor) as the keyboard.
There are numerous open discussions about this on these forums, both with Thunderbolt monitor-to-laptop rigs and iMacs, and none of them have one iota of input from any Apple representative in some official capacity, leading me to believe only one plausible conclusion (a) They know about this problem, and (b) they have absolutely no idea how to fix it.

  • Help! limewire will not work on my Mac mini 10.4.11 now that i cleaned it

Help! LimeWire will not work on my Mac mini 10.4.11 now that i cleaned it out and had to get the new LimeWire. It keeps asking for Java 1.6 but I'm having no luck. :O( LimeWire was the reason I bought a Mac!

    Very weird day in Firefoxland
First on a Powerbook G4 running 10.4.11 I respond to an invitation to upgrade to Firefox 4 (like a lot of others). Long story short, I wind up losing the browser altogether -- including all bookmarks. Why? Because neither the Firefox homepage (or CNET downloads) makes it clear that 4.0 is for OS 10.5 only! Amazing!
Then I try to register to post a reply in a thread that crits Firefox for not making this System Requirements info upfront clear. But the Register page I’m taken to (https://support.mozilla.com/bs/users/register) is in SERBO-CROATIAN!!
Then I try to log into Chat a couple of times and when it’s not CLOSED its a long line waiting and THEN it closes.
WOW!! Are the wheels off the wagon here or what!?!

    Hey iWeb plubishing problems,
I would first check to make sure that you meet the system requirements for OS X to support Documents in the Cloud. For that your Mac’s needs to be running at least OS X Lion 10.7.5 or later to make sure that everything syncs. Take a look at the article below for more information.

  • I am getting Error 150:30 when I launch CS4 on a new Mac Mini running OSX 10.9.3

I am getting Error 150:30 when I launch CS4 on a new Mac Mini running OSX 10.9.3.
The application was restored from a backup using Apple Time Machine.
I would reinstall the applications, since I have the original disks, but alas, the Mac Mini has no external drive.
    Any ideas?

CS4 is untested and unsupported under 10.9.x
That said, you should uninstall everything run the cleaner tool and then download the CS4 installer and try it again.
If that doesn’t do it, you’re on your own.

  • My new iPad 32G will not connect to my mac Mini using WiFi. Any suggestions for a solution?

    Happy New Year,
I am attempting to get Facetime on my new Mac Mini to connect to Facetime on my new iPad 32 G through my WiFi router. It rings on the iPad but after clicking on Accept, all it does is try to connect with no success. I have tried to reverse the order of the connection (iPad to the Mac Mini) but no success. The problem seems to be with the Mac Mini as I have been able to connect my iPad Facetime to my local authorized Apple dealer Facetime software both ways (i.e.I have connected with them and they have been able to connect with me.) Has anyone got any suggestions to resolve my problem?

  • My Apple blue tooth keyboard will not pair with my mac mini

My Apple wireless keyboard was paired with my Mac Mini. It is no longer paired. I have put in new Batteries. I have pressed the button on the top right hand section of the keyboard, the green led lights up briefly. The Blue Tooth set up assistant appears on screen and searches for the keyboard. I has brifly seen it but does not make a connection. The Magic moose is doing the same thing.

    Hi Darrell,
If your Apple Bluetooth and keyboard are not paring to your Mac Mini, then take a look at the article below to walk you through some general troubleshooting to get it to pair and start working again. If you have not done so already, try looking form anything could be causing interference like cordless phones as well and thing metal between the keyboard and the Mac Mini.

  • New Mac Mini running very hot?

I have just bought (few days ago) a new Mini 2.0GHz with standard 1GB RAM and 120GB HD and it's my first Intel Mini so I have no reference for this behaviour.
When I boot the system up it shows CPU at around 57-59 C temperature and 1-2% load, so basically idle state.
If I get it to do things, it will climb up to 78-80 C at 80% load. Did not run at 100% load yet, but 78 C feels pretty hot as it is.
The bottom of the unit is very hot and the sides and even top are warmer than what I'd expect the Mini to be.
Is this normal behaviour or should I return this unit and get a different one?

Thanks for all replies, I guess I'll just have to settle that it runs this high.
Though some people have told me their Minis are cooler than 57 C idle, I tend to believe Apple does not take much care when applying thermal paste or seating the heatsink onto the CPU. I have read way too many reports supporting this to be the case when people opened their Minis and checked...
I have same problem that you with new Mac Mini 2GHz and 2GB of Ram and 160GB of HDD.
Yesterday I run aMule, and I can see CPU B was 79º and CPU A 68º with 50% or 60% of load and I was afraid of it.
Do you use your Mac Mini to full load and it works well? Did you try to apply a new thermal paste?
Thank you and sorry for my bad English

  • New Mac Mini running slowly

Just bought a new Mac Mini (1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo; 512MB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM). Innitially it seemed to run really quickly and smoothly. Then I started loading software on it like MS Office, downloaded Stuffit (new version). Now it takes forever to switch between applications, internet seems slower (but this may just be subjective). Once an app. is up and running it seems to be appropriately fast and responsive, but if I pause for too long, or change between open apps, it takes forever to repond.
Also, and this may be a separate issue, dragging and clicking, one of the beautifully intuitive things about Macs, doesn't seem to be consistantly intuitive anymore. Seems more and more like a PC! Maybe I'm just getting old and stupid, but I'm particularly having troubles with this in iTunes. I'll likely post about this over there too. Thanks for any suggestions.
    John

Performance issues are often highly subjective, so as much as the system may seem to be deteriorating, it's possible that the sense it is doing so is based more on the resultant frustration from small changes in perceived speed resulting from such things as running non-native applications such as MS Office.
The previous poster is right, I think, in suggesting that you might try Neo Office instead of MS Office, since this will get you out from under the poor performance issues inevitably related to the use of Rosetta. In addition however, I think you might take this opportunity to do a little maintenance to ensure that the system is running as efficiently as possible.
The telling comment you make is that the system appeared to run well at first, but deteriorated in performance as you installed additional software. While it's possible you are reacting to a small subjective change, it's also possible that in installing additional software you have impacted MacOS. I would suggest you download a general-purpose utility such as YASU from www.versiontracker.com, and once installed, run all tasks (except deleting cookies). Particularly important in this situation is the prebinding task. Prebinding is the process which links applications and their libraries and updating it will make sure that this is correct. If it is not, you would typically find that applications are slow to open and can suffer brief 'stall-outs' as they are running.
YASU will also do some routine tasks such as repairing permissions, clearing log files and caches etc that can all be negatively impacted by installing software and updating the system, so the tasks involved can be beneficial in dealing with deteriorating performance.
The reboot after running YASU will take a little longer than usual - this is not a problem. Afterwards, once the system has rebuilt the cache files, you should notice slightly smoother performance, if not a little faster.

  • CreativeCloud application won't open after migrating to new Mac (also running Mavericks)

I had CreativeCloud installed and working on my Mac running OS X Mavericks. Then I migrated to a new Mac, also running OS X Mavericks. My CreativeCloud 2014 applications all work properly. My problem is with the CreativeCloud application itself -- the little cloud icon that appear in my Mac's menu bar. When I double click the CreativeCloud application icon on my Dock,  I see the Cloud icon briefly appear in the menu bar and then it disappears after a second or two. I went to the Utilities folder and I used the uninstaller to remove the CreativeCloud application from my Mac. I then downloaded the application installer and reinstalled it on my Mac. The exact same problem persists. This problem occurs in two different OS X user accounts on my Mac. How can I fix this problem?

Thannon88 please try utilizing the steps listed in Error "Failed to Install" Creative Cloud Desktop application - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/failed-install-creative-cloud-desktop.html to reinstall the Creative Cloud Desktop application.
If you continue to face difficulties then I would recommend starting the migration process over again.  This time please only transfer your documents and settings.  This will allow you a clean system to reinstall your applications.

  • Can the new Mac Mini run OSX 10.7.5?

I have the new 1.4GHz Mac Mini w/4GB Ram. I bought a Mediasonic external 4 bay drive. It's connected by USB 3.0. One of the drives in the enclosure is my old HD with Mac OSX 10.7.5 installed. I've tried booting up from that drive through the USB 3 connection with no luck. Is it an external drive issue or does the new Mac Mini not support that old of an OS? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks!

Not outside of a product such as VirtualBox, Parallels Desktop, or VMware Fusion; Mac OS X 10.7.5 doesn't contain the drivers needed to boot that Mac model.

  • Will the new mac mini run FCP X well?

I currently use a mid 2009 17 inch Unibody MacBook Pro (3.06 Ghz intel core 2 duo, 8GB Ram, and upgraded 1TB SSD hardrive) and have experienced some lag when rendering projects while editing in FCP X.  The SSD harddrive upgrade has proved increase of overall performance tremendously.  However, I want more power.
My question is:  Will the new high end mac mini, which was just announced

You'll get less problems if you move your Events and Projects off of the system drive and on to a secondary drive, to start with.  Get a FW800 drive (I've been happy with on-the-go drives from Other World Computing for years), move all Events and Proejcts to it.
Mac Mini?  Only if you get it with 16GB RAM and the Fussion Drive (which no one has really tested for video editing yet, so I'd be cautious.  Better would be the SSD drive internally and a T'bolt drive for your Events and Projects.
But, I've not seen an reliable, verifiable reports about how it holds up to real world editing.  I personally won't touch anything until I see real world benchmarks for video editing specifically.
