My G4 won't detect my own network

My Powerbook G4 quite suddenly won't detect my own home network (Airport Express) upon starting up.
It "prefers" to want to join my neighbours weaker signal networks. My network name does appear in the drop down list under the airport icon and I can select it manually and it happily joins. But it won't do it by default like it always did from day one. I may have changed a setting.
How do I get it back to always joining my own network by default?
Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Open system preferences and select 'Network' and then 'Airport' either from the 'Network Status' menu or the Show: drop down menu.
The first tab for 'Airport' says:
By default, join: and a drop down menu.
Make sure that drop down says 'Preferred Networks' and then select your home network from from the list. Apply the settings.
That ought to fix it.

  • My iphone 4s won't detect any wifi networks.

    Hi
My iPhone 4s won't detect any wireless networks.  It was working fine until last night when the connection dropped int he middle of me watching a programme.  At first I thought it was our router, but I reset that about 5 times, and all other devices are working fine on it.  The phone won't detect any other networks either - if I ask to join a network it comes up with the message "could not scan for wireless networks".  I have tried resetting the network settings as suggested on the support page, but it hasn't worked.  Can anybody help?  Thank you.

If no change after resetting network settings on the iPhone, try restoring the iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup.
If no change after that, the iPhone has a hardware problem.

  • Can't detect my wireless network

    Hi,
A few days a go I started having problems with my Wirless connection. My Macbook Pro can seem to find it anymore. It can be gone for a week, and then out of nowhere it pops up again and works for a day or two. My iPhone connects fine to the network. I might add that the airport card totaly stoped working for a week a while ago, but it also just started working by it's self.
I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.4 and I'm using an D-Link DIR-655 as router with Firmware ver. 1.21EU
I can see all my friends networks in the dorm (and connect to them), but I cant see mine. Rly strange..
anyone have any idea what it could be?

Hi, I too am having the same problem. The MBP won't detect only my network but detects all other networks in the neighborhood. And mobile phone connects to my network. This has happened earlier too, but just sorted itself out on its own.
    Thanks

  • BB 9300 won't detect Wifi

    Hi,
I am wondering why my BB 9300 won'z detect any wifi networks. Even if I set up an ad-hoc network without security on my laptop and have the BB right next to it, it would not detect any wifi networks, which is kind of strange.
I run OS 6, all other data services, mobile ones, are working just fine.
    Any ideas?

Hello, I don't think ad-hoc Computer - Computer networks will work. Are you sure that it will not detect any networks at all? Or only your own Wi-Fi network?
I hear that changing the WI-Fi settings on the router to WPA2-PSK may help your device connect.
Let me know if it works

  • My mac won't recognize ANY wifi networks.

All of the sudden, my airport utility on my Macbook Pro won't detect any wifi networks. My other devices recognize my network, as well as about 12 others around me, but my laptop, which never had a problem before, won't find any. My computer crashes at least once daily (it's old at this point), and it did today, not unusual, and now my airport can't find any networks. Help? I'm running Yosemite.

You have a Yosemite issue, so your best bet for a timely and informed response would be to post in the Yosemite support forum. The link is just below:

Alternately, but probably not quite as appropriate, you could try a post in the MacBook Pro support forum as well:

  • I have an Epson printer on a Wifi network. Windows 7 desktop and and HP Win 7 laptop (my wifes) print to it just fine. My MacBook Pro running Yosemite won't detect it, and I have the latest driver installed. No problem when I had a Canon...

I have an Epson printer on a Wifi network. Windows 7 desktop is running the network, and my wife's HP Win 7 laptop prints to it just fine. My MacBook Pro running Yosemite won't detect it, and I do have the latest driver installed. I didn't have a problem when I had a Canon Pixma on the network, but when I replaced it with the Epson nothing seems to work. I go to add a printer to the queue and only the FAX function of the printer shows up - not the WS-4530 print function. Does anyone out there have any suggestions?  Please??? :-)

    Hi Kelly,
As someone who has to print from my Mac to a networked printer at home all the time, I can certainly understand how frustrating it must be to have that fail to perform as expected. Let's see if we can get you up and running.
I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -

  • 3429 - Won't detect Networking Devices (And can't manually force drivers)

Got an "old" 3429 from a friend who's been using it at their office for a few years - Did a complete re-format and installed Windows 8 on it.
But now it won't detect any of the network hardware (Ethernet OR Wireless) and I can't get it installed manually (not for lack of trying) by using the drivers listed on the driver download page for the computer.
Additionally - Can anyone tell me what kind of RAM limits this machine has? The specifications seem to be for a never revision of the Thinkcentre that claims the machine uses standard size DDR3 sticks, which doesn't correlate at all with mine - It has a single laptop sized RAM slot (SO-DIMM?)

I've double and triple checked everything now - Both adaptors are enabled in the BIOS, the Ethernet port shows yellow light when connected to the network and nothing appears in Device Manager for either adaptor (No matter how many times I tell it to scan for hardware changes - nor are they pre-installed and present in the list. Only the bluetooth connection is running)

  • IPad iOS 8.1.3 won't work with HP P1102w's own network

Since I installed iOS 8.1.3 on my iPad a few days ago, wireless printing on HP P1102w won't work anymore. Although I did not activate Air-print, iPad found the printer, that has its own network, be it somewhat slowly. Printing worked allwright.
In general, iOS 8.1.3 on my iPad isn't such a succes. For instance, putting a question on this forum proved impossible on my iPad. The characters that I typed did not show up in this box. That is why I write this question on my MacBook Pro.
    Is there a solution?
    Thanks,
    Walter.

    1. Here is a link to the Apple info sheet on AirPrint. I don't see the HP P1102w listed as a supported printer. Did you perhaps print to this printer using an HP Printer app?

I'm not familiar with your router but are there any buttons on the front or back of it because sometimes you need to pair the router in order for your PC, laptop, phone or iPad to connect wirelessly with it?
From the routers I have used there are normally two buttons on the front or back (apart from the power button), pressing one of them allows you a few minutes to enter the required password on your iPad. Best look at the instructions for the router.

  • Updated TC Firmware now Xbox 360 won't detect network

Has anyone else installed the new firmware and connect a 360 to the TC Wireless? My Xbox won't even find the network when i scan for networks now! If i create a network on my Mac it finds it fine though.
Anyone experienced this problem or got it to work?

There were other threads where people had the same issue with the WiFi network that TC was hosting. In those threads, they mentioned both Windows and Macs were unable to connect to the network. So, I'm guessing the issue you have with your 360 is the same. FYI, they were able to temporarily resolve the issue by downgrading back to the previous TC firmware.

  • Ipad2 is no longer detecting ANY wifi networks.

Hi, my 9 month old ipad 2 no longer detects ANY wifi networks. Was always logged on to our own home router and in settings was always able to 'see' neighbours wifi - now nothing shows. Is this a hardware problem?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • Mac Mini Airport Extreme - Cannot detect any wireless networks

    Hello,
Last week my Mac Mini (Power PC)'s hard disk crashed. So I did a DIY replacement. I managed to re-install all the software, and installed all the latest updates.
However, for some reason, the Airport Extreme is not detecting any wireless network after the re-install.
My own wireless network router is a third-party, which has been working well for the last 2 years. My Window PC and laptop still connects to it fine.
I can see the Airport icon but it doesn't how any detected networks (and there are quite a few in my neighbourhood). I did Apple Hardware Test and it shows the Airport card to be working ok.
    Any help would be wonderful!
    Regards,

It still may be possible that the antenna wire is not placed properly within the Mini. Here are an excerpt of the DIY instructions for installing the wireless antenna. Hope it helps...
    - Make sure that the antenna cables are firmly seated in the mezzanine board.
    - Pass the antenna cables through the gap at the rear of the internal frame.
    - Carefully lower the internal frame down onto the motherboard. Make sure that the wires are routed to the right of the interconnect board.
    - Snap the AirPort antenna onto the black plastic column next to the rear port panel.
    - Tape the AirPort antenna wire to the edge of the DVD drive.

  • Won't detect the router.

    Hi,
I am trying to install a WRT54G model router. It goes through the setup and all the lights and everything else is correct but when the software tries to detect the router it always says the is cannot detect it.  I am able to access the router with 192.168.1.1  so the cables work, but i don' t know what to do at that stage.  My computer is running XP if this is an issue.  I have no experience with networks. This is my first time installing a router

  • Any program other than safari won't detect internet

any program other than safari won't detect internet eg. itunes, skype etc. I can't even system update.
Safari has no problems and I can use the internet fine.
Someone told me to check proxy settings and make sure "Use Passive FTP Mode" was ticked which it is...
Does anyone have any suggestions? I urgently need to fix this and I can't get an appointment to see anyone until next week.
    Thanks!

    Thanks Kaan for your reply,
Yes, Network does indicate that Airport is connected to the internet. Internet Explorer (OS X) connects instantly over the same network. Restarting Safari doesn't work. Waiting a few minutes doesn't work. Choosing a different web site to access doesn't work. Safari (1.3.1) has worked beautifully for months over this same network.
Thanks again and Happy New Year.
