My gmail and corporate email passwords are not saved, I have to retype every time to get mail

I recently restored my iphone 4 and updated with newest software. Now for some reason when I try to get email it says I have to enter my password. This is very annoying because it will not save it. I have to retype it everytime I look in my mailbox. This is the same for both gmail account and a corporate email account. Any suggestions? I go to settings to put it in and it does not save....

You could try deleting the accounts on your phone (in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>tap the account>tap Delete Account at the bottom) and then adding them to see if that clears it up.

FTP login and password are not saved on some sites

On some of my sites the FTP login and password are not saved
(even though the "saved" box is checked). Dreamweaver 8.0 on XP
SP2. I can export the site information and then import the same
file exported and there still will be no login or password placed
in the login or password window. I opened the exported .ste files
in notepad and found the login correct and the password incorrect.
I uninstalled Dreamveaver and reinstalled still same
problem.

Ok, I just spent about 3 hours on this. Here's the latest
that I've found. I had looked at the knowledgebase and my registry
matched what was suggested. As this has been an ongoing issue for
me, I thought it was still an issue. Apparently 8.02 did have some
improvements.
I can only guess that many of the 36 sites I have in the Site
Manager lost info before the .02 update.. or I hope so.
I did however discover that there is still what could be
considered a minor bug. I went in to Manage Sites and selected edit
for all of my sites, fixing the ones that had lost their user/pass
info. I'm not positive, but I think only the last edited site kept
it's data.
I discovered after many checks on all the sites, over and
over and over, that it appears that they are now holding the data,
but, if I add the user/pass, I must not only click the OK button to
close that particular site, but I must also click the 'Done' button
before only that one will be saved.
So, I thought I was fixing logins when in fact I was only
fixing one at a time.. Completely closing 'Manage Site' seemed to
hold one new set of login data each time. Seems that it shouldn't
be this way.
But I must say, I am rejoicing at the moment, as I actually
have all my sites set up with FTP info and I am now looking forward
to hopefully adding more and maybe they'll actually be available
for the next editing session.

Google them to confirm the settings that you need for the outgoing server, then check the setting you entered on the pad. Pay real close attention to the outgoing server name, and port. You may need to change in on the pad.

Try deleting it and reinstalling it.
you can also try giving your iPad a reset. Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds or so until it reboots and see if that helps.

For some reason my back button and refresh button dosent work,,,also my passwords are not saved in my craiglist windows

i just had some update today didnt really read it it was with mozilla so i just installed, now my pages were the wrong sizes and the toolbar with the backpage and refresh dosent work also my passwords are not being saved on my craiglist page

Don't worry about the time, as it took us a while to get it done. I learned a few things along the way, about Button Layer Set order, and what happens, once the Menu has been Imported.
Most of it will not apply to your original questions, at least not as I read them, but might prove useful in time.

Upon startup Firefox says "Proxy is refusing connections." When I select "Auto-Detect Proxy" from Advanced settings and solve problem, changes are not saved and upon next startup I must select again...!

Firefox 4 was working fine. Then one day, when I started up Firefox, it says "Proxy is refusing connections." I solved this by selecting "Auto-Detect Proxy" from Advanced network settings, but my changes are not saved and upon every start-up I must select it again! (I even completely removed my webroot antivirus protection, as it as hindering many proxy related programs, but this seems to not be the source of the problem)

You can find the connection settings in Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection
If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then select "No Proxy"

Update to 3.6.16 has fixed this problem.

FF rarely prompts me to save my passwords and none appear to be saved for all of my accounts. When creating this acct to ask a question, I was prompted to save it, yet none of my existing accounts are saved and I have to retype them every time which is a PIA. The Password Manager account settings are set correctly. I do not want to change any of my PWs to see if I am prompted to save them. What else can I do?

Usernames and Passwords are not Saved

I made sure that the security option for remembering saved passwords was checked; but the new version of Firefox is NOT saving them; I must enter them each time I visit any site that requires a username or password. There was no problem with version 3 in this regard.

Mail passwords are not saved to the Keychain

This problem seems to relate to the long standing Mail Password issue that has been frustrating many Tiger (and Panther) users.
Firstly: Mail keeps asking for account passwords in an unpredictable way. Even if I "save these to the keychain" via 'allways allow', I still get the prompts for mail account passwords after waking from sleep or later in the day.
Secondly: Keychain hasn't stored the passwords at all anyway.
Thirdly: 'Mail Preferences' doesn't store my account passwords. I re-enter them and they don't show up in the password box.
This has cropped up since the latest set of security updates in Tiger.
I have done the following.
Repaired disc permissions.
Run Keychain First Aid.
Re-entered the passwords into Mail Preferences on numerous occasions.
Run Cocktail utilities to clear caches/rotate logs/ just about everything.
My Mail is set to send/retrieve every minute. I have re-set this to every 5 minutes, but all of the above problems still apply.
I am on ADSL broadband via a NetGear router, wirelessly through Airport.
I think I am correct in assuming this may be a bug in the way Mail handles server traffic but whatever it is, it needs help!

ok guys, I found out how to fix this.
First way (harder way):
1. Open the keychain access application that rests inside your utilities folder.
2. Push the "Show Keychains" button on the lower left, if your keychains are not visible
3. In the menu item "file" pick "New Keychain"
4. Name the new keychain and pick a password
5. Mark your new keychain and pick "Make Keychain "your keychain" Default"
6. Pick "Change Settings" from the "Edit" menu and uncheck everything.
Voilá!
Alternative and much simpler way:
I found out that my old keychain simply was not recognized because the extension was removed. So, if you still have your old keychain file saved in the appropriate folder (your user folder(home)->library->keychains), simply add ".keychain" to the name. Open Keychain access to check if it was recognized or not.
Worked for me.

Changes to ldap made w/ ldap and/or dscl commands are not saved

driving me completely buggy.
Currently running 10.6.5 build 10H575
dscl syntax was a little .. annoying. but now that's sorted. I connect to ldap master using either ssh or dscl in from my terminal on my client. Issue command to delete user. All goes perfectly, I poll for the user - no such user exists. Awesome. I exit out, then read ldap db and user still exists. Not awesome.
I cannot interact with user account using WGM gui as my boss already removed that user using WGM, but user exists on the backend - I need to re-enable the user's account because he was mistakenly deleted. And yes, I tried ldapmodify, ldapdelete, dscl - it always "works" but then I go and check and the user persists.
So I've gone from trying to set disable/enable user switch to attempting to delete outright and add user back. I have searched through all data stores to remove him, checked through all groups. I authenticate w/ dscl command so I have the proper permissions to do a deletion.
/LDAPv3/127.0.0.1/Users > read tmartin
<dscl_cmd> DS Error: -14136 (eDSRecordNotFound)
This is what I want. If I exit out of the interactive dscl session, and go back in, user exists. If I open another connection to that ldap master w/out exiting, user exists. If I try to reuse the short or long name through WGM - user exists error pops up.
What am I missing? How do I get this change to stick? Any change? I cannot even get a character appended to the long name (it works but only for that current connection to the ldap master - checking from another session or another client shows old long name in use).
Let me know if this is as clear as mud.

I found the answer: OD master #2 that was being moved to the colo, and therefore would have been kept from writing back to OD master 1, was still on the office LAN and accessible from the OD master 1. So all modified records on OD1 were being modified and restored to their original state by OD2 and pretty **** near instantaneously as well. Good to know replication is working so well. So basically, I am ******** and did not notice that of all the OD servers 2 masters were present w/ read-write access to the records. All is fixed and working now.

.pdf, Word, and Excel email attachments are not recognized

I have something very weird happen. For the past 2 weeks or so, when I recieve a pdf file as an email attachment, and I try to open it I get a message that the file is corrupt. If I go to my husband's PC, I can open the file, which means it is not corrupt. I have tried with Preview (and Acrobat Adobe Pro 9.2.0) to double-click the file, no result. I have also saved on the desktop, and double-clicked; lastly, I tried to open from within both Preview and Acrobat. Nothing makes the files open. I had some of the files resent, as I wanted to make sure, nothing works.
Does anyone have an idea what's going on? Also, files I have saved on the HD a while back open without any problems whatsoever.

If they're really PDF files have whoever's sending them zip them first. BTW, what's with the Word and Excel files in the title? You didn't say anything about those.

For login I dont use masterppassword, but my passwords are not saved, why?

I have used Firefox for a long time. In the security panel the"save passwords" is checked. But only the password to web mail has ever been saved. I haven't worried about in the past, but now I really want to use that feature. How can I revive it?

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page.
The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server.
If that "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you and you need to sign in once again.

When Firefox is closed, all previous search page and home page settings are not saved. Must reset firefox and reset homepage url everytime.

All previous search engines on "Manage Search Engines" are gone and cant access the "get more search engines"...all grayed out.

Session Manager and Save session are the ad-ons which can solve your problem of saving previous search pages and url.

When I change my Internet (proxy) and home page settings and then close and reopen Firefox, they are not saved. Why is this happening?

I am going under Tools and Options, then Advanced -> Network -> Settings and changing the automatic configuration script for my work network. When I hit OK everything works. But when I close out Firefox, and then reopen it at a later time, it does not save the setting change I made and I have to do it all over again. This is also happening when I change my home page information as well...
