I have a early 2008 Macbook Pro, need to up grade the hard drive so that I can add a windows environment what is the largest drive that I can put in this computer? Is the storage size the constraint or the physical size of the drive? Or a combination?
The largest capacity HDD that you can install is the HGST 1.5 TB HDD:
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/HGST/0J28001/
Any 2.5" 9.5mm thick SATA HDD will fit and operate in your MBP, regardless of capacity.
Ciao.

What size external hard drive should I purchase
What size external hard drive should I purchase? I'm not tech savvy, so please speak slowly. I'm looking at OWC Mini Stack Classic to match my older Mac Mini. Do I need 500 GB, 1 TB or more? Plus, I have to add memory to upgrade to Snow Leopard. How much memory do I need and should I have an expert install it ?
Mac OSX version 10.5.8
Mac mini 3.1
Processor 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 2GB 1067 MHz DDR3
1 Processor
2 Cores
L2 Cache 3MB
Memory 2GB
BUS Speed 1.07 GHz
Boot ROM Version MM3.1.0081.B06
SMC version 1.35f0
Hard Drive
Format MAC OS Extended
Capacity 297.77 GB
Available 238.69 GB
Used 59.08 GB on diskGood points raised by all.
In my mini configs - both older and newer flatter model - I have kept their ministack external drive on top of the mini; with 3 or 4 little rubber feet added to the mini's base to give it a bit more elevation from the surface they are sitting on and a bit better chance to breathe. I'm not impressed by the very small air intakes on the bottom and the hot air that often comes out the back or how warm the case feels. Especially in the heat of summer.
I do turn the ministacks on/off as needed (primarily for backups once a week) as they're not entirely quiet and sometimes seem to have a low hum vibration. Nothing crazy. I just like it as dead quiet as possible sometimes. Plus the fan does not turn off even if the mini and ministack drive have shut down. The newer wide & slim model does seem a bit quieter than the older model.
Check through system profiler to see if your system has 2x1GB or 1x2GB. Most likely it is 2x1GB and you'd need to remove both to double your ram. On the off chance it has a free slot; a single 2GB stick would get you to 4GB. Check on the cost difference between the 2x2GB kit and a 2x4GB kit. I have an older core duo mini that functions fine with 2x2GB of RAM and 10.6.8. But, if you plan to continue to use the mini for several more years as a primary machine including upgrading the OS to Yosemite; it might not be a bad idea to just max it to 2x4 8GB. Yosemite really likes RAM to maximize performance.
Along the lines of keeping the same mini and doing upgrades. The biggest speed improvements are made by replacing the original internal hard drive with a flash drive. Of course this is a more technical upgrade, you really need to take the mini apart more and you have to weigh the cost of the upgrades and possibly paying somebody to do them; vs the cost of a newer system which would have a significantly faster processor and other improvements. -
what type of hard drive replacement should I use to replace the hard drive on my first generation mac mini model a 1103? G4 1.25 mhz 40 gb hd 1 gb. mem.
You'll need a 2.5" parallel ATA interface hard drive. Most are 5400RPM, forget 7200RPM drives and slower 4200rpm drives. You don't want a serial ATA (SATA) drive, as that has a different connector and won't work.
One source I've used for drives is Newegg, and their parallel ATA hard drives are at http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007605%2060000344 2&IsNodeId=1&name=IDE%20Ultra%20ATA100%20%2f%20ATA-6 . Newegg also has many user comments about the drives. Other sources are OWC at http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/hard-drives/2.5-Notebook/ (Click on ATA on the left) . Look for at least a 3 year warranty. -
Xserve SSD OS drive Raid 5 array - What if SSD OS drive is corrupt or fails
Xserve SSD OS Drive option with Raid 5 array - What if SSD OS drive fails or the OS becomes corrupted? Could you just re install the os and then upload all of your server settings and it would be able to talk to the raid array and be good to go?
Additionally if the os is in the raid 5 and becomes corrupted and you are not able to get the os to boot would the raid 5 data not be able to be accessed? Or could you just reinstall the os on the array and be ok?
This would be the same if the os is inside a software mirror set?
Thanks in advance!!!Hi
If you're asking can OSX Server be reinstalled without a reformat the answer would be no. This assumes you're using the OSX Server Installer DVD. Assuming no other hardware issues you should be able to access any/all data on any of the Drives using Target Disk Mode and another mac. This will at least allow a transfer of important data to another source. Having said that you should be keeping back-ups anyway.
You can export Server Admin's configuration as a series of property lists. You can export Users, Groups and Computer Lists from WorkGroup Manager. You can archive the whole of the LDAP database - which will contain everything except home folder information - using Server Admin.
I'm not sure if this is still the case but one of Apple's Best Practice tips was to setup and configure the Server exactly as you wanted it first. Once you're happy use any one of probably half a dozen methods to make a Bootable cloned backup. A free built-in method would be to boot from an appropriate Installer Disk and save the Server OS as a .dmg to a connected USB or Firewire disk. Or use something like CarbonCopyCloner to do regular scheduled clones to an externally attached drive.

What kind of hard drive do I need for my HP Pavilion dx6650us entertainment notebook PC?
I have a HP Pavilion dx6650us entertainment notebook PC that has the BSOD. Even when I run it in SafeMode I have absolutly NO desktop. I've tried EVERYTHING. I have lost hope. So im just going to buy a new hard drive. Does anybody have ANY idea what type of hard drive I need and aprox. how much it might cost? Please let me know(: Thank you.
It is a standard laptop 2.5 inch wide SATA hard drive like shown in this picture:
Look at Page 9 of this Manual:
Drive Manual
This will show how to replace it. Do you have the recovery disks that you could have made when the laptop was new? If not you are going to have to get a Windows disk or some HP recovery disks.
Here is a drive that would work for you.
160 gig 7200 rpm drive for $45
This drive will be faster than what you had and is a bit larger. A very good deal for the price. You perhaps already have a second hard drive in the system. See the manual on page 9 for the location of both hard drive bays. You could move the secondary drive (if there is one) over into the primary position without spending a nickel. In fact, that is a great idea. If you do that and still get the BSOD, then it might well be something else going on other than the hard drive. The hard drive is a likely issue but it could also be the memory and other things, too. However, I think the second drive is only found in the dx9000 models so do not be shocked if you do not have a secondary hard drive bay in your machine. I have never seen a dx6000 series but am pretty sure it is a lot like the dv6000 series of which I have seen more than my share. They have a lot of issues and I am concerned you will be spending money on a new hard drive that will not fix anything.
Feel free to post back with issues or questions. -
What kind of external drive should I get for my macbook pro for backups etc
what kind of external drive should I get for my macbook pro for backups and storage
Hi, i have a Mercury Elite-AL Pro from OWC, www.otherworldcomputung.com
this is the one;
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MEAQ7S1TB32M/
have had this for over two years, moved around a lot with the drive, ( to date ) no problems, they have good after sales support; give them a call if you need info.
There are a lot of drives out there as others here will let you know, there are good NAME drives but they also fail, POPULAR drives also fail, select the one you are happy with for your system and how you plan to use.
i suggest if $ is not a problem get a big drive you will find someting to put on it and is better.
hope this helps. -
What size external hard drive do i need to backup my macbook pro?
I know I need to backup my computer, especially since I have been experiencing some problems with it and will need to take it into a store to get looked at, but I do not know what size external hard drive I need to back my computer on.
Drives are so low in cost today, go for something that will meet your needs for a while...if you are going to use Time Machine, get a drive large enough that you can have a partition double the size of the internal drive for TM backups, and a partition you can use for more storage and work space.
A decent drive like the Mercury Elite Pro 2 TB drive OWC sells goes for less than $200 (US) now. Has a fast interface and is easy to setup. -

What type of hard drive is in my hp1000
what type of hard drive is in my hp1000 it has taken a dirt nap and i will need to get a new one
Hi:
Please enter the product number for your notebook in the applicable box at the link below.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/siteHome?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&os=228&sw_lang=&product=top
The product # can be found on the same sticker as the serial number.
Then you will be directed to the support and driver page for your PC.
On the lower right side is a Manuals link.
There should be a maintenance and service guide which will tell you what the hard drive part numbers are.
Google one of them and you will have your answer. Sometimes they just state 5,400 RPM hard drive and not much more, but when you google the part number, you normally find out exactly the info you need.
If you have trouble finding the info, please post back with your full model number.

What kind of database driver should use for database adapter in BPEL?
what kind of database driver (XA or non-XA) should use for database adapter in BPEL? I have only one database adapter and no JMS.
Thanks

It depends on wheter you need XA transaction or not.
See http://www.theserverside.com/discussions/thread.tss?thread_id=21385 third reply.
If you only have one database and no synchronous dependency to the caller, non-XA should be OK.

What is the SAX2 Driver that comes with JDK1.4?
What is the SAX2 Driver that comes with JDK1.4?
Thanks,
AaronThe following are SAX2 System Property values for org.xml.sax.driver (used when implementing XMLReaderFactory):
Xerces2 - org.apache.xerces.parsers.SAXParser
Crimson - org.apache.crimson.parser.XMLReaderImpl
Per the Xerces2 documentation the SAX2 Parser in Xerces2 will implement the same package name as Xerces to maintain backward compatibility. Will applications that implement the Crimson SAX2 driver in the JDK 1.4 be hosed once Xerces2 is implemented in the JDK?
The SAX2 driver provided with the JDK will change from org.apache.crimson.parser.XMLReaderImpl to org.apache.xerces.parsers.SAXParser. That will put many SAX2 applications at risk if the programmer is relying on a SAX2 driver provided with the JDK.
Is a solution to this issue being worked on?
Thanks,

What are the three drives listed on my iMac?
Just out of curiosity, what are the three drives listed on my new iMac when one performs the diskutil list command in Terminal?
More specifically, what is /dev/disk0 ?
/dev/disk0
#: TYPE NAME SIZE IDENTIFIER
0: GUID_partition_scheme *121.3 GB disk0
1: EFI EFI 209.7 MB disk0s1
2: Apple_CoreStorage 121.0 GB disk0s2
3: Apple_Boot Boot OS X 134.2 MB disk0s3
/dev/disk1 says Apple_Boot Recovery HD which makes sense with the new recovery partition.
/dev/disk2 says Apple_HFS MyDIskName and Logical Volume on disk0s2, disk1s2, followed by a bunch of numbers and characters, then Unlocked Encrypted Fusion Drive. I am assuming tis refers to the actual fusion drive that is mounted on the desktop.
Thank you very much!Amazon has sync software that uses a Cloud Drive as stated at http://appadvice.com/appnn/2013/04/amazon-cloud-drive-sync-arrives-for-mac

What is mean system driver is up to date?
what is mean system driver is up to date?
In computing, a system driver is a computer program allowing higher-level computer programs to interact with a hardware device. Hardware manufacturers release updates that would help new softwares work on the system.
These updates are upto date.
