Just once or twice

Yeah, this seems to be something to do with Google, not your iPhone. A search on that error found this page:

If a page you go to opens in a new tab, there is no 'back' to go to. If that is the case, just close the tab and you'll be at the page you came from.

Sync it back from iTunes on the Mac.
Connect the iPad to the Mac and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Apps Tab on the right.
Click on Pages in the list of apps
Click on the Sync Apps Heading.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes.
You may have just moved it to another screen on the iPad and you can look for it by swiping from screen to screen. You can also search for it in Spotlight. Double tap the home button. Wait a second and tap it again. Wait a second and then tap it again. Type Pages in the search field at the top of the screen and see if it shows up.

Every time I load Firefox, my home page comes up.
After going to another page, I do not see the back arrow highlighted, and the only way to get to the home page, I have to click on the Home button in the upper right part of the screen and get a new tab. Annoying - yes. Practical - no. I even uninstalled 4 and reloaded with the same results each time.

Then you need a clean install.
First export your bookmarks to a html file. (Bookmarks/Unsorted bookmarks will bring you History page where you can export your bookmarks). Note down your add-ons too.
Uninstall the old FF using free software like Revo Uninstaller. This will delete all the root directories and registries of old FF.
Now download the latest version of FF and install it. You can re-import your bookmarks from your saved html file.
You may still have to do the fix in my first post.

Under "options" in tools, I removed Bing as my search engine. Now, I have no left or right arrows for returning to the preceding page.

ran malawrebytes, it removed a registry key entry for search protect. seems to have solved it. AVG would have search protect as something to be deleted, but didn't seem to fix it. running malawarebytes removed key and seems to be fixed. I don't know if running AVG first is necessary.

After I have opened a page in a new window Firefox after a few secs return to the previous page.

I click on a link in one page to open another page in a new window. This happens and I am brought to the new window, but after 1-3 secs I am brought back to the original window.

I now have a solution to the problem I thought I was having. The new Safari 6.0.2 places the browsing history in the form of "tabs" just below the tool bar. You can return to the previous window when you click on the tab. You can also change the use of "tabs" when you select Safari/Preferences/Tabs, if you prefer not to use tabs. Try a 2 finger swipe left or right to change screens. If that doesn't work go to System Preferences/Trackpad/More Gestures and set it up.

Thanks for your reply but problem not solved. If I have reached page 5 for example, I can not go back to the previous page 4. Sometimes when you click the back button the previous page redirects you forward again. Right-click the back button to use the history list to skip the previous page and go further back in history. If there is no history list, hmmm, it must be something else.
