My GS30 life with not 1, but 2 docking stations.

Recently I purchased an MS30 with included docking station, plus a spare docking station, plus  GTX 760 + GTX 970 graphics cards.
Reason being, I wanted a superlightweight PC for work with plenty of grunt, that I could use at work and home without having to use 2 seperate machines.
At work I have the unit with the GTX760 with dual screen plus various accessories, and at home the GTX970 single large screen plus accessories.
This system works pretty great, really. There is a slight pause of a few extra seconds on boot when you first connect the main notebook into a dock after it running on the other one, as it has to essentially 'reinstall' the new video card, even though it's been plugged into that dock before. Other than that, everything works flawlessly.
A couple of notes for those considering buying a GS30, from a bit over a month and a half of using it for 8 hours a day at work then 2-4 hours at home :
- Lots of reviews say the setup is noisy. Out of the box, it is. But you can chop the noise a massive amount by opening the docking station, and looking for a little switch with LOW-MED-HIGH written above it. It's the fan speed controller, and by default it's on HIGH. Switch it to LOW, and in all but the most heavy overclocked load times the unit will be no noisier than any other home desktop machine or even many notebooks.
- Some complaints in reviews I read mentioned that the inbuilt screen doesn't work when it's docked. This was true, as docking disabled the inbuilt Iris Pro video - however I applied the latest BIOS update v105 which apparently removes that limitation, and it now allows you to use both external monitors and the internal screen when docked. Only complication I've found so far is f.lux doesn't like the dual simultaneous video cards and flickers like mad when it's loaded.
- Lots of people have said re the GS30 that it's expensive for the performance you get, compared to buying a seperate laptop and desktop. Maybe they're right, but there's something very handy about just having to worry about 1 PC no matter where you are. Plus the boss paid for it
- MSI - Please add the option to disable the front light strips on both the laptop and the dock! The laptop light pulses in sleep mode, so obviously it's controllable and not hardwired to always be on.
- Overall, extremely pleased. When I'm at home I can game on a nice 27" screen, I can then undock my notebook and carry on working on the couch  on an ultralight notebook while watching a TV show with my wife, and then plug it in at work and do some extremely intensive calculations - all without the GS30 breaking a sweat.

Looks like I jumped the gun on this one. While the screen worked on the dock for 1 or 2 boots, now it either totally fails to initialise and causes boot issues, or it activates and by doing so disables the video output via the external monitor. Highly annoying. And only problematic since v105.

  • There is a hum when I hook up my IPod touch with the stereo system.  If I do not use the docking station there is no hum.  Is there a solution other than buying a new docking station.  The on I own is 5 years old and is an apple product.

I have an Ipod touch with a genuine Apple docking station.  Lately when I connect my system to my home stereo, there is a hum that I never noticed before.  When I connect the system directly to my stereo, there is no hum.  Is there a solution, other than buying a new docking station?

This makes sense to me. I think the issue is your misunderstanding. If you purchased an item, your Apple ID becomes tied to that permanently. So when you try to update that app, you need the password to the ID that 'OWNS' that application.
Also, I suspect you have a different ID signed into the device, which is why you can't buy with your own. That article listed shows how to change the signed in account.

  • Error about docking station when booting but I do not have a docking station.

When I boot my Thinkpad T430S I get an error message from "Lenovo Settings Power" saying
"ocking Station AC Power Problem: AC power is detached from your docking station. For proper battery charging and docking station operation, connect the AC Adapter for the docking station".
I do not have a docking staion and the machine is new. Also, I notice that the little indicator on the battery icon in the notification area isn't coming on when I plug in the AC adapter but the batter is being charged. I have also noticed that the power setting is Windows isn't working like they should and the machine is put to sleep even when I tell it that it should never be. What could be wrong?

What is that fax message '''on'''? <br />Hard to understand how that is a Firefox support issue as Firefox doesn't have any fax capabilities.
Perchance, do you have an all-in-one printer which can receive a fax message? Printer, scanner, and fax machine combined.<br />
If so, try looking at your user manual for that all-in-one to learn how to print that message. Or consult with a support forum for that brand all-in-one printer.

  • HEADPHONE JACK not working.... but DOCKING STATION works fine

Music through any headphones is garbled & bad. But JBL docking station plays music fine. Have restored twice - no improvement. Is the headset jack broken? Any solution other than buy a new ipod? Thanks.

Thanks, djjackj, I'm starting to believe that, too! (Though it would be so much easier if it was just a software glitch!)
I've been searching old posts about this problem. It started cropping up back in 2006. At least 66 people have posted about this same phenomenon.
Two posts mentioned possible DIY fixes. Here's their advice (but I haven't tried this myself yet):
    "Hello everybody,
I have found a solution for my problem, I hope it can help you guys too. I found this following link to get my ipod open:
    http://www.answerbag.com/q_view.php/30180
When I opened it I discovered that the connection to the little print (?) where you plug in your headphones was loose (it is a piece with both the headphone plug and the hold function). So I simply reconnected it, and voila, my ipod was fixed! Good luck!"
"I had the same problem and fixed it by following the procedures to opening the mini to replace the battery. Then you will see the CB that the headphones plugs into. This CB (circuit board) plugs into the main ( mother board )
Mine had worked it's way partly out. I pushed this plug back on securely and the headphones now work. Hope this helps. You can find the instructions for changing the battery by googling changing the battery on a mini IPOD."
Someone from Germany already tried this . . . and it worked!
But opening an iPod is scary stuff . . .

  • TS1286 MY MUSIC WILL PLAY THROUGH THE IPOD BUT NOT THROUGH ANY DOCKING STATION SPEAKERS. IT USED TO, BUT JUST SUDDENLY STOPPED.

My music will play through my ipod speakers, but it won't work through docking station speakers. It used to but then just suddenly stopped. Can anyone help??

I just had this problem tonight and here is what worked:  Go to Settings; General; Software Update; and update to the new iOS:  6.0.1.  It worked for me, hope it works for you!

  • Macbook Pro 2013 with two external monitors (Docking station)?

    Hi there,
I am currently using an iMac 27 2013, but have come to the conclusion that a Macbook Pro 13" would suit my needs better as I now often need a mobile solution.
However, when at home, I would like to hook it up to my two external Dell (Mini DP) monitors in order to have more workspace.
For that, I am looking for some kind of Docking Station because it would be awesome just to have to plug in one cable and not all the USB cables for my other stuff, like midi keyboard etc.
Is there something I can purchase that offers me all I need or would you rather stay with the iMac?
    Thank you!

Maybe someone with a 2010 model will jump in and correct me, but as you only have a single Mini DsplayPort adapter, I don't think that it's possible to have two external models on a 2010 model. You can only do it on 2011+ via Thunderbolt using Thunderbolt Displays.
You might want to ask your question in the Apple Cinema Display forum, though. I'm just not aware that it can be done.

  • Not connecting to docking station

I have a Bush tv with ipod docking station that is meant to be compatible with my ipod 5th but when docking, the ipod screen is saying connected and the battery is charging but the tv is saying connecting. I can't get the ipod to connect and play i have gone through the tv troubleshooting but to no avail. Can anyone help me please?

I have a similar problem with my music system, a Yamaha MCR-040 (micro component system). Its also supposed to be compatible with the 5th gen iPod but its not. I can play music when docked but only via the iPod click wheel and not the Yamaha remote control - as it should. Seems to me that manufacture's use the word 'compatible' too freely, although Yamaha have used the ace get out clause in there user manual "some devices may not work properly even if they meet the requirements" !!!! Problem is, they don't advertise that before you buy.

  • IPod Touch with the Emerson iP100SLA docking station

Does anyone else have an Emerson iP100SLA docking station? I'm having trouble getting my iPod Touch to play and charge on it. Both are new, as I received them Saturday. Any thoughts? I know other Emerson iP100s cannot work with the Touch or iPhone, but this one should, however, I can't get it to work. PLEASE help if you can. My sister gave me the Emerson iP100SLA as a present, it cost her a lot, and it not working will break her heart.
    Thanks!
    Tim

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
    Tim,
I think you are going to have to break your sister's heart. There really isn't any indication on the Emerson website that any of their units will work with the touch or iPhone. They were designed/built for iPod Classics and Nanos. She needs to look for a unit that specifically states iPhone/touch compatibility. Sorry

  • Problems with Philips DS3205/12 docking station since iOS 7.1.2

    Hi there,
since the last iOS update (7.1.2) my iPhone 5s has trouble playing audio and charging with my Philips DS3205/12 docking station.
The docking station is 6 months old and was working perfectly fine with both my iPhone 5s and my girlfriends iPhone 5s.
Since the last iOS update of 3 weeks ago it starts with playing audio and charging, but after a couple of minutes it all stops
and the phone gives the message 'this device is not supported'.
I did everything with the iPhone already (rebooting etc) and already had a chat session with somebody from Apple.
Her conclusion was that the software of the docking station had to be changed.
First of all it's Apple which changes software, not Philips.
Second, I don't think a docking station has any software you can change or update.
Any more people with this problem?
And is there any support to be expected from Apple?
It shouldn't be possible that after a iOS update, my accessories are not compatible anymore, especially if they're less than a year old.

I have a similar issue.  Two days ago I upgraded to iOS 7.1.2 and now I can't dock with the "iHome Dual Charging Stereo FM Clock Radio".  I'm 99% sure that something in the iOS upgrade has made it so that I can not dock.
This is really frustrating as it essentially made my docking station unusable anymore.  The docking station worked just fine before iOS 7.1.2.

  • Ipod Touch 4g not recognized by docking station anymore

    Hi there,
Have got a problem which just arose a few days ago, my ipod touch isnt recognized by my docking station anymore for some reason?
My docking station is a Sony RDH-GTK33iP Mini HiFi and the box it came out of says its compatible, its just all of a sudden my ipod doesnt get picked up by the dock so cant play music or charge. My Ipod was at the time I found out it wouldnt connect, was in "Headphone" mode (no idea how it got into that mode) but now I sussed that out & sound is coming out of the external speaker of the ipod again,
When connecting to the dock, the dock just keeps flashing "CONNECT" and will just keep flashing that whilst the ipod is docked on it until I take it off and then it says "IPOD" which is what it normally says when the ipod is docked and recognized, and also gives a tone confirming theres a ipod docked which doesnt happen now with this ipod, I have yet to try a different Ipod.

    - Does the iPod work Ok with the internal speaker and when headphones are connected?
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod and dock for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Reset the dock and go to the manufacturer's support site
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:

  • Which HDD is compatible with HP 120W Advanced Docking station (NZ222AA)

Please tell me which HDD is compatible with integrated SATA upgrade bay of the HP 120W Advanced Docking Station (NZ222AA).. I can't find the info neither in user's manual nor at HP site. Thanks in advance.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi,
    Please check this:
While neither station can be upgraded, both feature an upgrade bay that allows you to install an extra hard drive. If you choose to install the extra drive, you will add additional gigabytes to your current laptop storage space. However, if you choose to take advantage of the extra space, a standard hard drive will not fit in the upgrade bay. HP offers a 500GB hard drive specifically designed for the upgrade bay on the 120W and 230W; you would need to order the upgrade hard drive through HP.

  • IPod Touch & iPhone 4 now not recognised on docking station.

My Panasonic docking station (had for several months and has been working just fine) has worked with all my Apple devices (nano, touch & iPhone) up until a few days ago, I now receive a message saying "not supported" and it won't work with any Apple device, any help greatly appreciated.

Bummer! Figured it was worth a shot to ask!
Maybe try cleaning the connector on the device carefully with a very soft, clean toothbrush, or by blowing compressed air on it. I have found that dock connectors are not as "solid" as the USB connector, so if there is some dust in there it might affect it.
If that doesn't work, then I would suggest taking it to the Apple Store to have them take a look at it?
    Cheers,

  • Managed to get a L512 back to life with oven reflow, but now bios locked ??

    Hello,
Just joined, but been lingering a bit longer here.
Got my hands on an L512 the other week with the dreaded 'DEAD"-symptom (doesn't respond to power on, yet charging the battery without problems). SImiliar to this stuff :
     http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-Edge-S-series/Edge-E520-will-not-turn-on/td-p/746183/page/10
Anyway, figuring I got nothing left to lose I decided to go for the old oven reflow trick. Skeptic at first, but after 7.30m in the oven at 190 degrees celcius (375f) and cooling down for 15 minutes, much to my surprise the laptop turned on again !!
But.. it's now asking for a bios password. I can get into the bios, by pressing F1 and then just enter, but it says it needs a supervisor password to actually save anything. Only thing I can do (apart from viewing all the options) is choosing restart, at which point I will be presented with a Hit F1 to enter setup message and then the password is needed once again..
I've read here and there that taking out the bios battery was a bad choice, but leaving a battery into a preheated oven at 190 degrees celcius seems even less smart..
So now I'm here. Asking for your help, and hoping Lenovo has got some password resetting procedure which does not constitute of replacing the entire motherboard..
Moderator Note: Post edited per forum rules.
And my soldering skills are upto par, but does it really have to come to this ?

Something is wrong here. Reflowing will not create a password, and the lead-free solder in the L512 won't melt at 190C
