My GTK Theme Colours are always Green??

Hi Archers
This is my first couple weeks with Arch and I've been struggling with GTK themes.
Themes are loading correctly (either with lxappearances or manually through the .gtk-2.0 file) however no matter what I do themes always have the same ugly green color for the main window background.
If I change the background colour in lxappearance to bright orange for example in lxappearances it will display correctly but when I go to open any gtk2 app or run gtk-demo it's like nothing has changed. That ugly green color is still the main background colour for everything.
I've been trying for the last couple days to resolve this but no luck!
Help me Arch community you're my only hope :3
P.S I'm running awesome wm but not any desktop environment if that helps.

Check if you have some setting *background: <some_green_color> in your ~/.Xresources or ~/.Xdefaults file. This will affect Qt applications AFAIK, but it might also affect GTK as well. Also, are you sure these apps are affected by GTK, not QT? If so, configure the look of Qt apps:

I've read your forum, but I didn't find an answer.
I can't disable hardware acceleration because there isn't this tab in flash player box. The lastest version is actually installed.
In GoogleChrome this problem does not happen. But I prefer IE.

In addition to the issue involving hardware acceleration, I've read that "certain add-ons" in IE 10 have caused the green screen problem.

ATV2 Screen Colours Are Incorrect (and Unchanging)

I am trying to use the new Apple TV 2 with my Panasonic TX-32LXD700A television but the colours are all wrong; blues are green, yellows are pink, etc. The odd colouring also affects the on-screen menus. Note that this is different to the "HDMI handshake every 20 to 30 minutes" problem, in my case the colours are always incorrect and unchanging. The device plugs in via HDMI. I have tried swapping the to the second HDMI port. I've tried a second cable. I've tried changing the order in which the devices are switched on from cold boots. Nothing works. The picture and sound is otherwise fine. Switching to another input forces the normal colouring to return to all inputs, but as soon as the Apple TV 2 has finished booting the colours switch to the incorrect space. The firmware of the TV is given as version 3090-10000. There are no options in either the user menus or the service menus to change the colour-space. I plugged the Apple TV into a computer monitor using a HDMI-DVI cable and the colours appeared fine. Please help!

I called Apple and whilst the guy on the phone was very understanding he was unable to help. I was hoping there was some secret combination of the remote buttons that would see the colours spring into life, but no.
I called Panasonic and asked for access to the latest version of the firmware for the television. They are sending it to me on an SD card via courier at no charge (one would think that it must be cheaper to host it on-line). The new firmware addresses a "sound distortion" issue (which I can recall happening occasionally sometime ago) but here's hoping it fixes my ATV2 colours too.

[Solved] Some GTK themes seem to only partially theme (black boxes)

An example is Aurora, but I'd say 50% of what I have is giving me the same problem.
There are no error messages, but the gnome-menu and panels have black rectangles where you'd expect different shades of color/gradients.
Has aurora meant to have a black gnome-menu, or is something broken? Why do some themes work and others don't? Why are there no error messages?
As far as I know I've installed all of the gtk themes. Are there any configuration options I can play with?

Some applications simply don't use the "usual" graphical toolkits, but their own. Chromium, LibreOffice, Firefox and Thunderbird are classical examples of this. While Firefox's and LibreOffice's integration with GTK is nowadays more than decent, you'll have to install [or create yourself] a specific theme for Chromium. I can't tell about Thunderbird as I don't use it.
In Chromium, if you choose "Preferences → personal preferences → use GTK theme", you might get a good result either way, so try it if you still haven't.

Is there a way in iTunes to "stich" or combine songs? Example Journey's Anytime and Feeling That Way are always played together. Is there a way to combine them so they are not separate songs?

Bookmarks are always displayed and we don't want them.

When I open any pdf file, bookmarks are always displayed. I do not use bookmarks, and would like to turn that feature off. How do I disable them from opening automatically when I open a document?

(This may or may not work) I found it in anothert thread.
SOLUTION for hiding navigation panel in Adobe:
1. When the navigation panel is opened, left-click and drag each individual icon to the right so that you pull it off the navigation panel and they each become bigger floating pop-up windows.
2. Now continue doing this for all icons until the navigation panel is entirely gray.
3. Click on the "X" in the upper right hand side until you close all those pop-up windows.
4. Right click on the navigation panel gray area and click "hide".
5. Now that navigation panel will be gone whenever you open up Adobe.
I've found in both Windows and Mac that if I close the panel and then close Reader, it doesn't open again.

Firefox dark gtk theme fix??

The buttons are now visible as I installed a widgets fix from the Ubuntu forums, but the text boxes are all way too dark and text is black. I can barely read what I'm typing right now, hehe. Anyone got a fix?
I've used the forms.css and html.css replacements from dark theme packs for a long time but they don't seem to work now. Have copied them all over to /opt/firefox3-bin/res/, same as before but no luck. I'm using FF 3 Beta 4.

userChrome.css is partly used e.g. to hide parts of the gui
but I was talking about userContent.css, which can still be used for overrides to change pages (as long as they contain !important)
this is how Stylish works, and does affect FF3.
Anyway, by changing GTK theme to a more recent/complete one, which can be edited for colour if you want, I now have white text on grey background in text entry forms/boxes and buttons with white text. It's one of the Murrina Dark Pack on gnome-look from you screenshot I guess you have murrine, so you could have a look. I have it looking basically the same as the old theme but with ff looking right.

[Solved] Problem with GTK+ themes (some of the applications look ugly)

Hey everyone,
I just switched to Arch and have problems with getting the GTK+ themes to work. Some applications (i.e. pcmanfm, firefox) use the theme I set with lxappearance and other like transmission still look ugly. Any ideas what am I doing wrong?

Another possibility is that you have the correct theme but don't have the associated theme engine installed. Poke around the themes a bit:
For a GTK2 theme: in the "theme/gtk-2.0/gtkrc" file look for the line that says "engine" and a name. Make sure you have that name installed.
For a GTK3 theme: in the "theme/gtk-3.0/gtk.css" file also look for "engine" and the name. Also make sure that engine is installed.
Themes are almost always in "/usr/share/themes/theme_name"
The files you look for to see which engine a theme uses may be in different files than the ones specified above, poke around in the files. The file that specifies the engine will be a text file so you can look at them using "less" or an alternative.

Google chat status always green

I noticed that since I activated my ipad and setup my gmail account, my google chat status is always green (available) even though my ipad is sleeping (wi-fi on). Google chat status never goes to "idle" or "offline". It works well on my iphone and mac. Any idea? It's annoying 'cause people are trying to contact me and get no response.

iChat has several States that it can be in.
Available and Away are the simplest and can have Status Messages added to them.
Then for iChat 4 and 5 there is being Set to Invisible (Available at your end Off line to Buddies)
You can be Off Line, either by Logging out or setting the iChat > Preferences > General Section to Set Status to Off Line On Quit.
Idle is the time the computer calculates there has been no input from keyboard of mouse. It is about 10 mins. (The same as standard Hard Drive Sleep in Energy Saver.
This will make you appear Amber to your Buddies if the Status Message is Set to Available.
Other apps show Idle at Away messages as well but iChat does not, although sometimes mousing over a BUddy will tell you.

KDE4 Quirk Fixes: Desktop Servicemenus & GTK Themes

Since I have spent quite some time with frustration trying to get kde 4.2 to work properly, I finally solved 2 of my most annoying problems. I figured this might help someone else out, so it couldn't hurt to post. Note that both of these are rather hackish solutions, but until better ways come about, they work just fine for me and probably will for you. I'm not sure which of these are caused by actual bugs as opposed to something I don't understand yet, so I will hold off on reporting them until I'm sure.
Servicemenus:
If you've noticed that you -can't- unzip/unrar/untar for some reason ONLY on the desktop (presumably in folderview as well, since the desktop is just a folderview plugin of sorts), I seem to have figured out why and how to work around it. I noticed at random that somehow my Root Actions Servicemenu was working, which no right click menus had been before. I was baffled. In looking around for a solution with the hope of getting my others to work, I removed the ark* servicemenus from /usr/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus/ (the kdemod4 servicemenus folder. it may be diff for normal kde4) and installed extract-compress-servicemenu-kde4 from AUR. Good news -- on logging out and in, i had a compress menu on right click. Buuuuuuuut...no extract. Which renders it virtually useless for me. After all sorts of looking around, comparing, trial and error, it seems that (confirmed by doing it to 4 different non-working servicemenus) the argument %F is not accepted in 4.2 servicemenus on the desktop/folderview and they just don't show up at all. Replacing %F with %U in the servicemenus and logging out and in.. magic! Being able to extract files without manually opening konqueror or Ark, via right click! With the desktop backend and easy servicemenus working, the desktop is finally useful again. YAY. I confirmed this by doing the same thing to 4 different previously-not-working servicemenus, which had been converted from KDE3 via this:

This helpful botch of a previously good script (tweaked to fit my system, pathetically hardcoded to take from kdemod3 and give to kdemod4) was taken from here:

SO:
1) Convert the servicemenu from kde3 if it's not a kde4 one already with the above stuff.
2) Replace %F with %U. Another argument may suffice. Note that this could possibly screw stuff up if you attempt to do multiple files, but as a workaround, at least it makes things work!
3) log out and in
GTK Themes:
It seems that systemsettings->appearance->colors->options->apply colors to non-kde4 apps screws up the colors on the system for gtk apps. Gtk-qt-engine didn't work for me whatsoever (ended in an ugly flat theme) when installed and activated in systemsettings/appearance with qtcurve-kde4, and gtk-kde4 turned the text green and screwed up some things. I couldn't fix the former, but disabling what seems to be the logical setting to use in the settings manager seems to fix the text problems, and somehow they were the colors they should have been.
Alternatively, use identical (qtcurve or oxygen) themes on gnome/gtk and kde4/qt and use lxappearance as said in the wiki to set them to be the same, using the color disabling given above.

Hi, I'm working on this issue also, over at Chakra CCR.
Here is what I figured out so far:
Problem:
1. awn-settings is searching for the icons of its gui.
2. If one of them is missing, it tries to substitute it with the icon named "gtk-missing-image"
3. If it doesn't find this neither, the error happens and awn-settings won't start.
All this happens in /usr/share/avant-window-navigator/awn-settings/awnClass.py lines 1017 - 1047
As soon as I substituted both occurences of "gtk-missing-image" with "folder" (or any random kde icon) there, it works.
When you open awn-settings then, you'll see, that "Task-Manager" and "Advanced" have the folder as their icon.
The according errors in the commandline are:
Could not locate the following icon: gtk-execute
Could not locate the following icon: gtk-properties
Now for a kde-version of awn, all we have to figure out is
1. where those two icons get called (through the "safe_load_icon()" method) and replace their names with their kde equivalents.
2. Maybe replace the fallback icon with something more meaningfull than "folder"

Front End Runtimes in BI workload are always 0

Hi,
We have activated the technical content for BI Admin cockpit in Production. The delta process chains are
running fine daily. The issue is we do not see the front end runtimes in BI workload via ST03N. Only for a very
few queries we have RSDDSTAT settings activated at level 2. BI workload displays only OLAP and DM times
for those queries. But the frontend times are always 0. We are extracting all the step categories. I can see
the front end runtimes for all those queries in 0TCT_C01, but they are not shown in BI workload. Hence even
the Total Time of the query in BI workload is always smaller as it does not include the front end runtimes.
Any idea why the data for front end runtimes is missing from BI workload ?

depending on your data flow you have to use the routines .
Start routines - start routines:
It is used to perform preliminary calculations.if you have any modifications required before the actual transformation is done, then you must write those routines in the start routine of 7.0.
End routines - new:
You can use an end routine to postprocess data after transformation on a package-by-package basis.
Expert routine - update routine :
You can use the expert routine if there are not sufficient functions to perform a transformation. The expert routine should be used as an interim solution until the necessary functions are available in the standard routine. You can use this to program the transformation yourself without using the available rule types. If you have already created transformation rules, the system deletes them once you have created an expert routine.

HELP! iPod playlists are always getting f...d up! HELP!

This is a strange problem, infinite thanks to the person who can help me!
Once I updated my iTunes 5 to iTunes 6, on a different computer I have; shortly after that, the problem started:
I can arrange the main-folder AND/OR playlists on my iPod nano HOW I want, every time I disconnect and reconnect the iPod to my computer it's back to a totally confused state. WHY???
The width AND the chosen columns are always changed again, no matter what I do. I even resetted the iPod several times plus I put it back to its "original state" on iTunes 7 that I now have on my PC. Still the same problem. I think it has something to do with the iPod, not iTunes.
PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE as this is a really annoying problem.

Additional information:
In the beginning, with iTunes 6, the problem "only occured" when I created playlists on my iPod. When I had no playlists at all on it, nothing happened. But even when I only put one song in my "On The Go"-playlist, the problem would appear as soon as I connected the iPod to the computer.
NOW with iTunes 7 ans much more options available for the connected iPod, the problem also occures when NO playlists are created on the iPod. :'-(
Funnily, now only the main folder seems to be cursed with this problem. The playlists I created on the iPod with iTunes stay how I wanted them. WEIRD!!! HELP ME PLEASE!!!

... I didn't know that Time Machine was more a last resort back up instead of main back up.
Don't rely upon Time Machine to the exclusion of all else. I compliment Time Machine with a periodic "clone". TM is much better than nothing, but it's a safety net, not a hammock
Here is my understanding of Time Machine's file deletion algorithm, distilled from Pondini's FAQ, Apple's KB articles, and my own observations.
Time Machine deletes ("thins") files from the backup disk as follows:
Hourly backups over 24 hours old, except the first backup of the day
Daily backups over 30 days old, except the first backup of the week
Older backups get deleted when Time Machine requires space and you deleted them from the source disk.
Therefore, assuming TM has been performing at least one backup per day, backup files will remain available:
at least thirty days, if they existed on your Mac for at least a day
until you run out of space, if they existed on your Mac for at least a week
In addition to the above, Time Machine always keeps one complete copy of your source disk so that the entire volume could be restored if necessary. Any files that remain on your source volume will be present on the TM backup, no matter how old they are.
If you are using 250 GB of space on your source disk, its Time Machine backups are likely to require at least twice that much. A good estimate of the minimum required backup volume size would be about three times the size of your source disk - 1.5 TB in your case.
A more thorough explanation would require Pondini since he has plumbed Time Machine's mysteries far more than I have.

I have to save as CMYK for print, but the colours are out of whack..

I am designing something for a CD cover that is going to be printed at a print shop, They say they want their images in CMYK and prefer it in a PDF or highest quality JPEG....
So I have been working in CMYK, everything looks fine in photoshop, but when I save out to a JPG the whole thing gets dark and colours get horribly over saturated.
here you can see the image on the left is what happens when I save out directly from my CMYK file in photoshop. there is a big loss in detail in the darker areas and colours are over saturated. the image on the right is what I get if I convert to mode>RGB and then save the JPG. .. . .this is what I want it to look like....
my problem is the print shop requests the image in CMYK, but I want them to print like it looks in the RGB version
any help would be greatfully appreciated! Thankyou!

edit: I don't know too much about colour profiles, and the print shop hasn't provided one on their site, so I picked the default one - Working CMYK, U.S WebCoated (SWOP v2)
edit: these are the file formats the printers say they take on their site:
PDF - 300 dpi - (preferred), Tiff, Highest resolution JPG, EPS
I don't really have any experience with the other formats but I presume I would get the same colour results

Just to be clear the file is already in CMYK (U.S web coated SWOPv2), I understand now its probably smarter to work in RGB and then convert at the end but hadn't done so in this case.
If I change image mode to RGB (or vice versa) i notice a tiny shift in the colours on my monitor but nothing as dramatic as what im seeing in those CMYK Jpeg/TIFF's.

there are probably more than 20 layers in there, my colour settings should all be default because ive never even looked in there before, but here is a screenshot of the dialogue box
and the bit depth is 8-bits per channel
If I save it out as a CMYK .pdf then it looks fine, presumably because im opening it in Adobe acrobat reader so it can see the embedded profile. So I think this is the problem after all, thanks Chris Cox and gator soup for clearing that up!
I have emailed the printers and asked if they can read my embedded profiles correctly with their software (presumably they can) and asked for them to recommend an ICC colour profile but have yet to hear back from them.

Acrobat 9 Pro, colours are messed up in a PDF

When opening up some PDF's the colours are all wrong. This only seems to happen with certain ones though. HOWEVER, if I open the exact same PDF in Acrobat Reader it displays correctly.

To get the correct colours for all the objects I selected everything (Ctrl+A) then went to the menu: Tools, Advanced Editing, Touchup object tool. Selected the "color" tab and converted it to Adobe RGB (although any colour space corrects this issue, same with rendering intent)
However, here's where it gets interesting. If I tick the "embed profile" tick box all of a sudden the colours are suddenly all over the place again as shown in the incorrect image.
Acrobat 9 Professional was used and the operating system was Windows Vista Business x64.

i have read at least 4 articles and watch 3 videos that do almost the same process i have explained. the only difference is that they used Word to create their PDF doc. they had no issues.
so i am wondering if there is something wrong with the Excel PDF process. i have tried this one 2 different MacBooks with same result.
what does the cell have to have in order for Acrobat to detect it as a form field?
I have a spreadsheet that has over 300 fields that should have been detected. so yes, i could create them manually, but i am hoping to get this Acrobat to detect them.
I tried the process you did "File=>Create Form". i got same message.
i built a separate little test process to describe the issue. see image that is attached.
it is very simple, yet no fields were detected.
