My hard drive does not appear in the Finder window

I installed a second internal hard drive inside my G5, but it never shows up in the finder window, nor anytime I try to access files from within applications (it appears on the desktop though). How can I configure my computer so that it always sees this drive and grants me access?

The reason for resetting nvram is to force the G5 to rebuild the device tree, which it seems "loath" to do without a kick start.
Swapping drives oddly enough seems to leave a profile in nvram for the old device.
Personally, booting into Open Firmware is easier, thorough, and if that was all it was, works (never liked the reboot over and over zap pram which, to reset nvram, must be done from cold boot).

  • Why does my seconds hard drive does not appear in the list of volumes in Settings - Performance - work volumes

    Hallo,
the photoshop installations is really slow after updating to version 2014. So I checkt all performance related facts. I the settings of photoshop I saw, that there is only the defauld drive (systemdrive) in list of volumes. This is not the optimal case. On a different PC (Windows 7 Pro), there are all volumes present that are listet in the windows explorer. I would like to change the Setting to a different drive. Where could be the problems?
    I tried and changed:
    - Changing SATA Mode from RAID to AHCI
    - Updated all drivers (chipset, grapghic ... verything, dell's update-software offered to me)
here an image to show the problem (placing an image seams to be broken :-(

Sorry, I've just deleted my previous post of a few seconds ago asking about your platform, because I realized you are on Windows because you mention "the C drive".  Senior moment.

Look in the Utility folder which is located inside the Applications folder.
You don't want to do anything with the disk on a PC if you want it to work on the Mac. They both use different formats.

  • Finder & Dock do not work - Mac Hard Drive does not appear on Desktop

Until yesterday, my powerbook was working properly.
This morning, I wanted to use it and I had the following problems after login.
1/ My Mac Hard drive does not appear on my dekstop
2/ My dock appears but no icon works when I click on them. So, I can't open finder. I have no response.
3/ Furthermore, my top bar (with clock, login name, Airport icon...) appears but it is frozed.
I try several solutions as :
    - rebooting in safe mode,
    - rebooting, with in the same time, hold different keys (option, apple, p & R)...
As of today, no solution works.
    Thanks for your help.

Ok, that's good enough. You may be able to repair this with the 10.5.8 Combo Update This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before.
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
    EDIT:
I have around 5 Go space left on my Mac
Also, your getting very low on disk space. Try to copy some of the data off to other media. *Do it before you try applying the combo, you'll need the space.*

  • External Hard Drive does not appear in finder

We purchased a 1 TB G Drive Q from the Apple Store. It is connected to my wife's iMac running the most current update of Leopard by 800 firewire and appears on her desktop and works flawlessly with time machine. I am connected to the same drive intermittently with my MacBookPro also running the most current update of Leopard. i connect with 400 firewire. Initially the drive would not appear in the finder. for the initial backup, i turned the hard drive off and on and then it would appear and i did the backup but now when i connect to the 400 firewire port, it still doesn't appear in the finder. i would much prefer not to need to turn my back up drive off and on each time i want to use time machine. i should also mention that when i connect any of my garmin training devices or my power meter by USB it is recognized very quickly as a device in finder. any ideas? i understand this may be one of the problems fixed with SnowLeopard. thanks.

I am not sure what you are attempting to do. I assume that you are not trying to connect two computers to the same external drive at the same time. That will definitely be problematic. In order to effectively use Time Machine with two Macs, you should partition the drive into two partitions. Also make sure that the drive is using a GUID partition scheme.

  • Driver does not appear in the selection tab Windows8

NDIS protocol driver does not appear in the Selection Tab and hence I can not run any tests on it. The client operating system is Windows 8 64bit Pro Premium. I tried reinstall driver several times, reboot client and studio machines, but with no results.
Client itself is connected to the studio and is in "Ready" state.
There was no problem running the test on the same driver with Win7 64bit client OS.
    HCK version is 8.59.29854
The driver is build with DDK7.1.0
Any hints on how to debug this would be helpful.
    Dmitry

Have you uninstalled and re-install the HCK client on the test system?  This can cause the entry on the controller to not match up with the actual client system.  If this is the case, and you have done no testing on the system (as all results will
    be lost), please try this:
    1) Uninstall the DTM client from the test system.
    2) Delete the client entry from HCK studio in the machine management section.
    3) Reinstall the DTM client on the test system.
    4) Wait for client entry appear in the "Default Pool"
    5) Change client status to "Reset", wait for it to become "Ready", and try locating the target as I describe above.

Are they daisy chained? Have you tried them one at a time? Have you tried a different FireWire cable? Do they show up in either system profiler or Disk Utility? Have you reset the SMC? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

  • My device does not appear in the iTunes window.  Instead a separate window opens so I cannot sync

My device does not appear in the iTunes window.  Instead a separate window opens so I cannot sync my device.  I have tried with both my iPad, my iPod and my iPhone.  In each case a separate window opens showing that it is fully connected to the computer, but it does not open in iTunes.
I have followed previous instructions to stop then start the device manager.  I have even uninstalled then reinstalled iTunes, but no luck.  Can someone help??

    Hello Linda Lev,
It sounds like Windows recognizes that your devices are conneted, but iTunes does not. I recommend the troubleshooting from the article named:

  • Time capsule does not appear in the finder.

My time capsule appears in airport utility. It is ready to go. I have it on ethernet because airport isn't a very powerful wireless router. The time capsule does not appear in the finder. It does not appear in the disc utility. It does not appear in time machine. The airport utility will do factory resets, get it ready for internet, whatever. The rest of my net work can not see it.
I have done the finder preferences. I have restarted the computer, jiggered the sharing preferences, done factory resets, tried to find sparce bundles and sparse bundles, reset the finder, force quit finder, tried to find finder plsts, trawled the discussion pages, tried to find server addresses and apple ids. Nothing seems to work.
Time capsule never seems to work as smoothly as it supposed to. I shudder to present my problems to apple support because I know that its a long road and will probably end in tears. But here I am, naked before this disappointing edifice.
    Does anyone have any ideas?

What is the make and model number of your modem?
I have a microwave modem on my roof. I don't think that has anything to do with this. I am not using my airport for a wireless router, only as a time capsule connected by ethernet. The Airport Utility calls my airport : Airport Extreme 802.11 ( 1st Generation )
Is the Time Capsule acting as your main router or is another device handling those services?
No, I have a lyncsis router. The wireless router function on airports doesn't seem to work very well. I don't think thats a problem with mine. My brothers have gone with lyncsis as well.
Was the Time Capsule visible in the Finder before, and is now "lost", or has it never appeared in the Finder?
It appeared on my previous laptop. That died. Now I have an imac. The airport has never appeared on the imac.
Thanks for trying to help so quickly

  • DVD drive does not appear on the "Computer" drive screen

I have lost access to the DVD drive. It does not appear on the "Computer" drive screen.
It will start up with a disk inserted but shuts down after a approx 20 seconds without having opened any files.
The DVD light comes on when it first starts up and then goes off within a few seconds.
I have re-installed the Toshiba driver and still no access.
I believe it started when I installed a new WD 1Tb external drive which setup its virtual CD drive on the E: drive which was used by the DVD drive. I have moved the external drive to G: and left the E: drive letter vacant but still not working.
Any ideas how I can solve this? It would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if this will help you but check it anyway

    command-shift c, nothing happens
confirmed in Preferences/General that external hard drive was checked
    tried another cable
tried another port on the back of the external drive
tried to connect through the USB port
    re-started, etc.

I have same problem after installing OS 10.5.8. Disk utility sees the hard drive, the computer does not. Disk utility says invalid node structure. Volume check failed. Filesystem verify or repair failed.
That means the directory is corrupt. If you have a heavy-duty 3rd-party disk repair app, such as +Disk Warrior,+ it may be able to fix it. Otherwise, your only option is to erase and reformat the disk. They're not cheap -- Disk Warrior is about $100. And for Leopard, you need version 4.1.1 or 4.2.

  • Macintosh HD does not appear in left Finder window under Devices

When I open Finder, Macintosh HD does not appear in the left panel under Devices--only my external hard drive is listed. I am also using a third-party file management program called Forklift, and when I use that program to look at my files, Macintosh HD properly appear under Devices, along with my external hard drive.

Under Finder Preferences, do you have both Hard Disks and External Hard disks checked on?
