Check the iPhoto preferences:
From the main menu bar: iPhoto > Preferences > General:
"Connecting camera opens" : Set this option to "iPhoto".
If that does not help, disconnect your iPhone and reset your iPhone.
To reset iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

In order to sign out of your iCloud account that had a ID change, you would need to change the account back to the original. The reason for that is probably due to the Find my device feature and it needs to verify and if that iCloud account does not exist because of the name change and you cannot sign out. Changing it back is pretty easy and should not ask you to verify but once you change it and sign out, you can change it back to what you want it to be. look in settings:sounds and be sure you have a ring tone set, and both vibrate buttons are off. Also be sure the volume slider id as far right as is comfortable.

If you were not there, how would you see the led?
Anyway missed calls will appear on your Lock screen under the Missed tab.
Or a small red numbered badge will appear on the Phone App icon when you have missed calls. You can then access the Recents Tab in the Phone App to see whcih calls were missed.

Let it do the rotating thing for about 10-15 min. If it is still doing this, try wiping the phone in iTunes.

To what? Are you having trouble with a DVD made by a particular device, or a hard disk that was on a particular computer, or is still in that computer, and communicating to your computer? We don't have enough details to answer the question. Are you trying to get photos into an iPhoto certain version, Photoshop certain version, just the Finder of a certain version, or specific operating system on your Mac? We need more details. Is the DVD a standard DVD, such as is indicated on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2446 or something non-standard?

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

Photos taken with the iphone are not part of the sync process at all.
You should be importing them to your comptuer regularly as you would with any digital camera.
