My Hard Drive's Split...

Ok, I have two volumes on my Macbook; one is the main drive, which is 265.9 GB, and the other is one left over from when I tried to install ubuntu, which is 30.0 GB. I cannot merge this partition back to my main volume, and this disturbs me! I've tried Disk Utility and Terminal, but I am either doing it wrong or it's not working. PLEASE help me.

Bucmeister wrote:
Well, I did what it said. I tried to delete the partition, but it stayed where it was. Frustrated, I went to its icon in the Finder then ejected it. This worked, but how do I get my free space back?
Are you following the steps in the link provided? If so, exactly where did things go wrong? What didn't happen, or what message did you get?
Is the partition now gone from the diagram, as in the last sample in the green box?
If so, as shown in the blue box, just pull the lower right corner of the remaining partition down to fill the space.

  • Add a second hard drive to split x2

I have a HP Split X2 - model 13-g210dx My labtop and hard drive both work fine. I read some people added a second SSD hard drive to the keyboard base of some models of split x2, but needed to change a board (I believe the HDMI board). I havent seen anyone do this with my exact model but with similar models.
Is it possible to add a second hard drive to my particular model, and where can I order the board. Also any info on what size/type hard drive would work would be helpful. Thank you very much.

Also I do not want to add an external hard drive, and I contacted HP support and they transfered me about 6 times with no help.

Even if sone one has the right person I could talk to that would be great. I spoke with several at the parts department and technical support, and nobody was sure and just kept transferring me.

  • Why is my hard drive split up like this?

Ok so my hard drive is split up into five different parts. I have a 1 TB by the way. They are:
    the C: drive-902 GB
    Unallocated-28GB
    Hidden 400MB
    System 260MB
    Hidden 391MB
Anyway can anyone tell me why its split up that way? Can I somehow allocate the 28Gb to the c drive? And what are the hidden drives?
If you need more info let me know. I'm trying to learn as much about computers as possible because I want to work in IT someday and right now i just don't know what info is relevent. BTW I'm running windows 8 64 bit.

  • How do I move just my movies folder (not the entire iTunes library) to an external hard drive and still be able to watch movies?

My movies library is getting frighteningly large, and I want to move it (not the entire library) to an external HD, and still be able to watch the movies (when the HD is connectec). How would I do that?

It's not a feature of iTunes but can be done using various work-arounds.

  • How do I unsplit the Hard drive?

I am new to mac and i got this mid 2010 model of macbook white. I noticed that my hard drive is split to two parts and as I download apps and all, they all go to the Macintosh HD while the other "untitled" HD always has this yellow exclamation point that says I cant save a file there.. I opened it and there are a lot of stuff in it that I do not recognize but I cant seem to delete them.
That "untitled" HD is taking up half of my 250GB memory which I will really need so can anyone here tell me how to make it just one part and scrap out the other one?
    thanks!

    Glad you got it solved.
But I really, really recommend erasing everything and reinstalling. With a pre-owned Mac there's no knowing what hacks, security holes, pirated software, keyloggers, credit card sniffers, or other junk that may have been left on it by any previous owners. Using a pre-owned Mac's software as-is, is a Very High Security Risk. I don't even hook a used Mac up to the internet until it's had a reformat and reinstall of all software.

  • Satellite Pro A200 - Hard Drive has lost half it's memory

I have a toshiba Satellite Pro A200 running Vista. Vista came preloaded and I don't have any discs for it. I have had it since new (Sept 2007). The hard drive is split into drives. Recently my C drive has competely filled up and I now have no space left (55gigs gone) I store no data in this drive. All my media (music, photos, other files) is in my E drive. I have to run C Cleaner each time I boot up in order to have enough space to operate the computer. I also have to delete all but the most recent restore point in order to function.
I am at my wits end and think I must have a virus or something. Is there a way to restore the computer to 'new'? I have all my files backed up on an external hard drive so I don't mind starting from scratch. Bearing in mind I have no install discs as Vista came pre-loaded.
    Can anyone help????? please!

If you don't have any disc and if you didn't get any disc with your notebook that means your notebook was delivered with HDD recovery image and this image is saved on second HDD partition in folder called HDDRecovery.
Recovery disc can be created using preinstalled Toshiba recovery disc creator. I don't know if you still have all this.
The whole story with HDD is somehow strange to me. If your notebook has two partitions and partition C is full I am asking myself what is with second partition. It must be pretty empty.
What is capacity of second HDD partition?
What is free space on this second partition?
You wrote about E drive. What is E drive?
You must understand that nobody of us know what are you doing exactly, what programs are installed on your notebook. You wrote about no saving data on partition C. Maybe you are wrong about it. Maybe you download many torrents and they are saved somewhere on HDD. who knows?
Do you have some friends with good PC knowledge? Try to find someone who can take a look onto preinstalled system and check what is going wrong there.

  • Can I split my itunes music library between and internal and external hard drive?

Is it possible to have music on the two different drives and still be able to make playlists from both drives to put on my ipod?  Here's my situation:  I'm using a Dell 32 bit computer running Vista Home Premium SP2 which I share with other users.  I have a large itunes library (40g+ of music only) that's starting to hog the hard disk space from other users. If possible, I would like to split off part of my itunes library to an external hard drive while still having access to the entire library for my ipod. Ideally I would like to have all my downloaded songs on both the internal and external drives so I'll have backups in case a drive fails, while putting all the music I have hard copies of solely on the external drive. Any help on how this can be done would be appreciated.

If you manually manage your itues library, you can store parts of it on an external drive, or on an internal drive.  Just keep in mind that in iTunes that you must set a default location for iTunes to manage it's files, and that will be the default location for iTunes to store anything it downloads.  You would need to manuay manage moving things from there if tht is not where you want them stored.
Perhaps a "better" solution would be for you to invest a little mone into 2 external drives.  One to hold your entire iTunes library, and the second to be your off-line backup of the first.  This is the method I have gone with and I like how it works for me.  My entire iTunes library is on an external (portable) 320GB drive.  Then, when iTunes is not running, I will clone my external drive onto a second drive I happen to have, this way if I have any failure of my primary drive, I lose at most about a weeks worth of content.  For me, I purchase little content during a week, but I do move a fairly large volume of podcasts.  With the entire library being on the external drive, if I ever have to swap to using my backup drive iTunes wil just think that it hasn't run and downloaded anything for a week, and all the "lost" content will be re-downloaded automatically.  This won't work for apps or purchased content, but for subscribed podcasts, it is great.

  • Can I split my iTunes library between 2 hard drives?

Can iTunes library be split between to hard drives?
    Hi,
My laptop has 2 x 250GB internal hard drives. I wish there was 1 x 500 GB one.
1 of them is nearly full with music only 2GB remaining and the other one has over 100GB remaining.
I'm wondering is it possible to split the location of the library between the 2 drives without too much trouble or is it messy or even possible?!
In other words when I open iTunes the music that is on the nearly full hard drive will remain there and any music I import going forward will be re-directed to the other hard drive but still appear in iTunes along with the music from the other drive.
    Thanks...

    I have the same question.
I would like to be able to do the same thing with all my media. I'm a DJ and certain aspects of Mac Os X Lion or iCloud, and iTunes Match, don't favor folks with tons of media, storage wise. I'm not happy that there's a limit on how much space iCloud will give you. Yet, I feel forced to upgrade to Lion within the next 4 days. I've been hesitant to rip my collection or even upload all those digital copies because where will I put all those files. I agree with needing like 4-8T just to store, but how? I don't have Thunderbolt, only Firewire on late '08 iMac 20" and USB on 08 MacBook 13" Aluminum. Bleh!
If you can use Time Capsule to back up your entire network with more than one computer, it would seem likely that you should be able to piggy back 2 xTime Capsules. I believe they come with 2-3Ts now and you can get them refurbished? I'm gonna look at Time Capsule Support to find out for myself, I'll let you know what I find, also. One thing I did noticed was that I had uploaded a bunch of Digital Copies from movies I had bought from Blu-Ray Combo Packs like 2 years ago and deleted them from MacBook for more space, only to recently find that they had been saved as purchased items from the iTunes Store. So now I can grab them from iTunes and watch them anytime off my Apple TV.
    Good Luck,
    Jenn

  • How can I split a backup on two hard drives with Time Machine ?

Back-up of my Imac with time machine is 1,3 TB. I have two 1 TB external hard drives but even if I had both as available in Time machine, it seems it doesn't allow to split the backup between the two hard drives. Any way to resolve this without buying another hard drive with more space?
    Thanks in advance

You cannot directly split a backup. Your only option would be to open the TimeMachine preferences from System Prefs. and add things to the exclusion list for one of the backups. Then, when you go to do the other backup you would reverse the process and add everything else to the exclusion list and remove the things you had on there in the first place.
Seems fairly intensive though when you could just go and buy a 2 or 3TB external drive and do it all in one...Black Friday is coming up

    Hi Evanh,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are having a problem getting your second 'base' hard drive working after upgrading to Windows 8.1. I will try my best to help you with this issue.
I recommend Testing a Hard Disk from the BIOS, I would like to know if you can see it and or if it has been corrupted or damaged.
Please let me know the results.
Thank you and have a great day!

  • Un-split the hard drive and re-download Mountain Lion on my second laptop

I have two partitions on the hard drive of my MacBook Air; one has Snow Leopard (Mac OS X, 10.6.8) and the other has Mountain Lion (Mac OS X, 10.8.3).  As I start saving more files on my MBA, I start having less free space to work with.  When I purchased the Mountain Lion, I didn't purchase the CD version; I downloaded from Apple's site.  Now I need to un-split my MacBook Air, keeping the Snow Leopard on it and move the Mountain Lion to my MacBook Pro.  How do I do that?  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

download Mountain Lion again from the App Store - once the download is complete, it will try to install - cancel the install and create a Mountain Lion USB installer.

You do realize that you can also download Mountain Lion in your Macbook Pro through App Store.  It should be under your purchases section when you open App Store.

  • Splitting music between external hard-drive and laptop?

I've just bought an external hard-drive for my ageing Powerbook, and am wanting to split my iTunes collection so I have all of my music on the external drive, and a selection (30Gb or so) on my laptop, for when I'm on the move or disconnected.
There are several posts on this topic, but they all seem confusing and contradictory. Most people seemed to suggest using the Multiple Libraries function in iTunes, so this is what I did. I set up a small library file for the music on my laptop, and a larger one for the music stored on the external drive, which I can switch between by using the Option/Alt key when loading iTunes.
The problem is, iTunes doesn't seem to allow you to have different Music Folders for each of these libraries. So if I change the destination for my Large Library so that music is sent to/stored on my external hard-drive, it also changes it for my Small Library - and vice versa. So iTunes is constantly loading up with the wrong default settings, and if I try to correct it, it starts laboriously re-labelling my entire library. It's now telling me half the music I know is on my laptop can only be found on my external.
I realise I could just unselect the "Keep iTunes folder organised" and "Copy to iTunes Music folder" options, but this would mean having a mass of music labelled on my laptop that's not actually there when I don't have my hard-drive plugged in, with the Missing Excalamation Point Of Death taking over my screen. I do not want this.
Is there no simple way to have music separated into two places, and my computer show me what's actually there? It ain't rocket science, is it?
    All assistance gratefully recieved.

There is a KB doc from Apple: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304447. The KB doc shows how to add a second (or third, etc) to your iTunes app. This is what I've done so I now have a library that uses my external drive for normal usage at home and syncing my iPod and iPhone. The second library is used for just music when I'm on the road. Hope this helps.

  • Will BootCamp Split my Hard drive?

I only need windows to run quickbooks, I don't want to have my hard drive split for mac and pc. I don't want to have to use any antivirus software.
When I run my quickbooks I will not need to run any mac software at the same time.
Will Boot Camp be the correct thing for me to use? I know I would have to get windows software as well. Or is windows parellel the one to use?
In Canada they do not have quickbooks software for the Mac as they do in the US.

Quick Books Premier Contractor, I-MAC 2.66 Quad w/8G RAM, Snow Leopard, Fusion-3, and WIN-7.
2 processors allocated to WIN-7 with 3G RAM.
ISSUE- QB runs terrible. It takes up to 9 minutes to boot QB and it repeatedly is “Searching List”, “Preparing for Editing”, “Record Transaction”, and “Locking Transaction”. Each can take minutes.
When tabbing between fields when entering a ITEM, I have to wait when I tab to next field.
Printing can take minutes to come up.
This is a new machine and the MAC side works very well. The WIN-7 side seems to work fine too, just not in QB.
I-MAC is on network via Time Capsule and another PC on WIN-7. Again, a new machine.
QB for MAC will not network, even #10. Will share a file, but not allow network to access the file at same time.
I have read that QB works good in Paralells???? and for sure in Boot Camp.???
    Any suggestions?
