My HD crashed.. Can't copy the songs from my ipod to my PC...

I was very disapointed that itune couldn't synch the files from my ipod back to my PC. The excuses from Apple is completely insignificant.
Also, I found that ITUNE is a REAL VIRUS... You just simply CAN'T uninstall it correctly from your PC. I've been going into my registry, deleted everything there, deleted every files on my PC that had anything to do with my ipod and still when I boot, the IPOD is still locked by itunes....
I've been dreaming for 3 years to get my ipod and now that I have it... I'm dreaming I should ask for a refund...

We've run into this problem as well. To satisfy the music industry, I can see why Apple can't provide the plug-ins to move files from the iPod to your (or your friend's) PC. But go to this web site and check out this program - it worked perfectly for us.

  • How can I get the songs from my iPod on to my new iTunes library?!! Help!!

So I've looked on all the support pages but I've got a feeling there is nothing that can be done with this, hopefully someone can help!
We moved to the US and while our computer was being sent over it got water damaged so I lost all of my itunes library. And I didnt back it up properly. So I want to know if there is anyway to transfer all the songs from my ipod onto our new itunes library, or if i can somehow get my ipod songs on to disc and then import them?? I really don't want to lose all my songs, so if anyone can help I'd be very grateful!!

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod and iPhone
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • My Windows Computer Crashed, Can I save the songs on my iPod?

My Windows computer just crashed and all info is lost, so I just bought a new Mac to replace it. Is there any way for me to transfer the songs that are currently on my iPod to my new Mac?

I've had to do this a few times, and what has worked for me is to find a program that shows hidden files. I use a Mac (G3 iBook), so my program of choice is called TinkerTool (there's a free trial version available). Whatever you choose, you can probably find a free version of software that will allow you to view hidden files.
In any case, I don't know if this will work for you since you were running Windows when you put the songs on your iPod, and I think that means your iPod has a different format. Still, I would try to see if revealing hidden files shows the contents of your iPod. You will also need to make sure that it is setup to work as an external hard-drive (I don't know how this works with Windows, but it's just a preference under the iPod preference panel in iTunes).
The caveat is that the files on the iPod are not labeled in a particularly coherent way, but, if your main goal is retrieval, this isn't really an issue. Besides, from my experience, iTunes knows what the files are once you have imported them, so it's not such a big deal that you can't identify them on the iPod.
I hope you find something that works!

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.

  • Can't delete the songs from my iPod through iTunes?

When I try syncing my ipod 5th generation with iTunes (newest version), music that I deleted from iTunes isn't deleted from the iPod, but new music added to iTunes are added to the iPod. All other media is synced fine.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If your iPod is set to automatically update, then it will look exactly as your iTunes library does.
I would uncheck the songs you don't want to transfer to your iPod in iTunes (in the library). Then connect the iPod. When it appears in iTunes go to edit-->preferences. Click the iPod tab. Check "Only Update Checked Songs." Click OK.

To copy photos to your computer that were taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites then see this page - on a PC you can use the windows camera wizard
To copy photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app on your iPad such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.
