My HD crashed on the computer I was syncing to- Can I copy photos

My HD crashed on the computer I was syncing to- Can I copy photos OFF my Apple TV? There is a possiblity that some may not have been backed up anywhere else.
Thanks,
Mitch

It would be interesting to ask at an Apple store near you if they have any kind of service program for the machine.
I've never seen mention of one, but if the USB port is for service/diagnostic purposes then it would seem logical that larger Apple stores would be equipped to restore corrupt disk images via an external device/software - if they can do this then presumably they'd be able to get data off the AppleTV too.
They might charge for the privilege but depend how important those photos are.
Alternatively if you are extremely technically minded and don't mind dismantling the AppleTV then you may find it possible to access the data direct yourself after connecting the internal drive to some form of USB drive enclosure.
Commercial disc recovery can help in some cases but can be very expensive. Depending on what platform you're on there may also be software recovery applications such as Spinrite at www.grc.com, but they don't always work.
Good luck.

So seriously, there has to be some way to get this thing to reset without putting in the password that no one knows into it. Help? im not a computer tech in the first place.

    My daughter put a password on her ipod and has now forgotten the password and disabled her ipod, we no longer have the computer that it was last synced to please help

    You'll need to connect the device to the new iTunes library in recovery mode using the instructions in this Apple support document.  From there, restore it to factory settings.

  • My daughters itouch is locked and the computer it was sync with has been replaced - what now?

    My daughters itouch is locked - she forgot her password and the computer I used to sync has since been replaced - how do I get this thing unlocked?

    You may need to put the iPad into recovery mode for it to be recognised by your computer's iTunes : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808 - you should then be able to reset the iPad and re-sync your content to it.

  • HT1363 important photos are stored on ipod but I no longer have the laptop it was synced to can I retrieve them?

    Hi I have a 1st Gen ipod and have photos of a family member who is no longer with us stored on it. I don't have the laptop I used to connect to this IPod any more. Can I retrieve the photos to a new computer or somewhere I could print them off?
    Thanks in advance for any help. This really is important to me.

    A "1st Gen ipod" did not have photo capability, so it must be at least an iPod Photo (4th gen iPod) or later.  The information I provide below applies, as long as your iPod is NOT an iPod touch.
    The iPod's screen is quite small, so when you sync photos to it, iTunes converts them to a special format that reduces the resolution of the photo to fit the small screen.  This saves storage space used on iPod.  If you were to transfer the image back to your computer, the low resolution would make it look horribly pixilated when blown up to computer display size.  I think there are third-party utilities that can convert and transfer the images files back to the computer, but there is no way to do it using iTunes.
    If you used a specific setting when syncing the photos to the iPod, then you can retrieve them at the original resolution.  The setting is on the Photos tab for the iPod, in iTunes when you select the iPod in the sidebar, under DEVICES.  It is a checkbox that says Include full-resolution photos.  If that setting was enabled when you synced the photos to the iPod, then you will be able to retrieve them at the original full resolution.
    What you do is Enable disk use, which is a setting on the Summary tab.  This makes the iPod's storage appear as a "disk" to the system.  You can then use your computer's OS to open the iPod, like it was a flash drive, to find a folder called Photos folder inside.  In that folder, you can find any full resolution image files that were previously synced, which you can copy to your computer's hard drive.  But again, that Include full-resolution photos setting needed to be enabled at the time you synced the photos to the iPod.

  • I purchased a DVD from the itunes store.  It is showing in my library on the computer, but after syncing, I can't find it on my iPad2.  It is not in Music and not in Videos.

    Is there anywhere else i should look?  Is there a secret to this?  First time I have bought a DVD.

    Hi Friend,
    In iTunes, you need to pay attention to mark/unmark the fields properly to everything runs well.
    Syncing your device with iTunes, open your device. In the Resume Tab, if you have marked "Just sync Music and Videos selected" and/or have unmarked "Manage Music and Videos manually", they mean you need manage which music/videos you want in your device.
    Go to Videos Tab, check if the video is there, but probably it is unmarked or something like this. Mark the blanked field and sync with your device again to see what happen.
    If sitll not working out, check how iTunes Match works. You maybe need to have an account in iTunes Match to share the video with other devices you have.
    Hope it will be helpful

  • I got this ipad used how do i reset everything and i don't have the computer it was synced on, I got this ipad used how do i reset everything and i don't have the computer it was synced on

    I ask for help I had got a used Ipad from someone they didn't give me the passcode so I can reset everything. I don't have the last computer it had been synced on or the passwords for the store nor do I know how to change the email adresses. So does anyone know how to reset the passcode on an ipad with no computer or have it been synced on itunes.

    Plug into iTunes on any computer.
    Hold down the sleep wake button until the Apple logo appears.
    Don't let go of the sleep wake button and press and hold the home button as well. Do this until the Apple logo disappears.
    Now let go of the sleep wake button but keep your finger on the home button for a few more seconds. The device should go in a mode that will enable you to restore it.

  • How do I transfer contacts to new phone if I don't have old computer that the old phone was synced to?

    My wife's iPhone ( the original iPhone) was synced to a computer that we no longer have since it crashed.  She has a new Macbook Pro, but has not synced the old phone to it.  We will get the new iPhone 5 and sync it to the Macbook Pro, and I am looking for a way to transfer her old contacts to the new iPhone.  The same question applies for the photos she has taken with the old phone.  Thanks.

    Not sure if the Original iPhone has iCloud option but you could try to sync your contacts to that. As for apps I would start re-downloading those to the MacBook just to be safe. Another option for contacts would be to sync them to gmail account. There is a way to setup gmail as a exchange account also to sync your contacts. Here is the link to tell you how to set it up. http://support.google.com/mobile/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=138740
    Then attempt to sync with the MacBook.

    You may have to do this several times.
    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school environment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom
    You need to place the device in recovery mode.
  • My macbook pro crashed and the hard drive was replaced. How do I restore my backup pre- 9.6 iphoto library to the 9.6.1 iphoto library? They look completely different.
    My macbook pro crashed and the hard drive was replaced. How do I restore my backup pre- 9.6 iphoto library to the 9.6.1 iphoto library? They look completely different. When I look at my backed-up iphoto library folder I see lots of files and folders: ALbumData.xml, Attachments folder, etc. The 9.6.1 iphoto library doesn't appear to be a folder at all. Help!
    iPhoto 6 and earlier libraries were regular folders with the kind of files your reporting.  With the advent of iPhoto 7 the library folder was changed to a package similar to the application packages but have essentially the same files and folders inside.  There's no reason to have access to the inside of the iPhoto Library so Apple changed them to packages.
    Do you have a backup copy of the iPhoto Library from before the HD crash.  If so restore it to the Pictures folder in your Home folder.  If you previous version of iPhoto was iPhoto 7 or earlier download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 on your library before trying to open it with iPhoto 9.6.1.
