My HD failed and I need to replace it but I'm not sure how
My portege M780 keeps crashing after the hard drive makes grunting and clicking noises.
I ordered a new hard drive (the exact same model as the one the portege has right now), but I'm wondering how I'll be able to get Windows 7 and all the Toshiba drivers on there?
If you didn't create the recovery media, you'll have to order it from Toshiba.

there is panel in the upper right corner of my screen that says 'copy' preparing to duplicate to "desktop". I clicked stop three days ago and it is still trying to stop. Tried to 'force quit' does not show up in finder, looked in activity monitor but i am not sure how it is listed. I am new to the mac world.

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions. -

I have an iPhone and I sync playlists to it from iTunes. (I have far in excess of 16GB of music/podcasts.)
What I want to do is permanently share my music library with all devices in the house, so I'm planning on buying a NAS server that has a built-in iTunes server. (I don't want to just use my computer to share and leave it on 24/7 because that is a phenominal waste of power.) That way all networked computers can just load the library under the 'SHARED' option in the left pane. However, this had me wondering about how I will continue to sync my music to my iPhone? I wondered if I will need to maintain a duplicate of the library on one of my computers, and then have my iPhone sync with that. Otherwise I'm not sure how it'll work.
Any help/comments/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Tom.Incidentally, my first thought was to map a network share from the NAS to my computer, so that my music files appear on the Z: drive, say on my computer. I could then set up iTunes to store music etc in that folder, and to copy all new items to that folder. However, if I do that, all that'll happen is that on my NAS, the library file will become out of date as I add music to the collection but not to the index.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update.

I need to install a new hard disk - not sure how to install
Hello;
I travelled for a month, and didn't turn off my imac, which I thought I did. My country is hot at this time of the year.
When I got back home, I found that the desktop was crashed, so I did a restart and the computer never booted. I tried again and again.
I performed qa recovery boot, and using the utility I tried to do a disk repair. It initially found problems and started working on them. However, it always crashed in the process after many hours. After several repititions and a lot of research, I booted my iMac with a ubuntu live CD and the diagnoses it performed told me that:-
1- The hard disk will fail, and this is inevitable, something about S.M.A.R.T. (?).
2- There were HDD fan cooling thermal problem, and some read/write problems, and something third.
At this point, I recovered the 'User' folder that includes the desktop, my documents, pictures, etc, and seems ok to run on other O/s's.
I am willing to also retrieve the applications folder if possible, with all the programs.
I feel I need to replace my 1 TB hdd with a new one, but if I did, I have no clue how to install it. I do not have the installation CD's. I bought it installed, and then upgraded to snow leapord using iTunes.
If I found a shop to do the replacement of the HDD' how would I install Snow Leapord again? Is there any other advise?Roberto 17 wrote:

5 hours to do 6 GB of transfer is NOT normal, even for USB 2.0 so there's something wrong here. I'd say cancel it, wipe the drive and then test the integrity of the drive. Do some file transfers over to and see if it's behaving normally. It could be a bad USB cable, it could be a bad drive or bad enclosure. As it's new, I suspect you haven't really put it through its paces yet and it's important to do that first before commissioning it to serve as your "reliable backup." -

Instead of just turning the phone off and on try a reset.
Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem. -
Its an 802.11n (4th Gen) model
I looked at the diagnostics screen (next to the blinking orange icon on the Airport Utility and it says there are four issues:
the software (currently V 7.6.1) has an update available. If I click update I get the error message "There was an error connecting to the update server. Check your network settings and try again". However, nothing's been changed settings-wise
The other 3 status issues are:
Internet Connection - but the router is working fine and I can connect to the router via wifi on my MacBook Pro
No DNS Servers - I have no idea what this means
Ethernet Unplugged - it's not and I also replaced the ethernet cable which has no effect
Do I just cut my losses and hit the reset button - if so will I need to back everything up again (i.e. I will no longer be able to access my backups) or do I just set up a new wifi network - again, will this impact on my backups?

The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel.. add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility. -
See the attached photo. I have a photo open but I cannot see the top part of the application. It will not let me scroll up. I cannot move the application. When I click on F3 I can see the full screen and can see the photo but as soon as I click anywhere it goes back to the cup off screen.
That's the organizer? Sorry, but the Grab menu is in front in your screenshot.
If so, go to your username>library>Application Support>Adobe/>Elements Organizer/11.0>organizer and delete status.dat.
BTW, just for future reference, you don't need to bother with Grab for general screenshots. Cmd+shift+3 captures the whole screen, cmd+shift+4 and drag to capture part of it. Here are some other shortcuts (article is for 10.8 but they're the same in 10.9) -
My daughter's ipod touch says it has no available space and can not download anything. It has a capacity of 6.5 GB. She only hads 236 songs, 3 video's, 63 pictures, and 17 apps. There is no way she has used up all the space with what she has on it but it lists her available capacity as 0 bytes. Any ideas?
Connect the iPod to the computer and click on the iPod under Devices in iTunes. Near the botttom of the screen will be a colored bargraph showing the storage usage aon the iPOd. If the "other" categot is large, like above 1 GB you need to restore the iPod to get the "other" to its normal of about 0.25 to 0.75 GB. Sometimes a restore to factory defaults/new iPod is required.
If the other is normal. what does the bargraph say for the different categories? -
I am trying to sync my ipod and the new itunes library I just loaded. My old computer basicall crashed and I had to get a new one. They were able to recover all the data from my old computer, but there is no music listed in the new itunes library. How do I get this to work as it did on the old computer?
