I've chekced the drive specification on the WD website.
According to the document, drive speed is 128MB/s (Host to/from drive)
Data transfer rate(max)
Buffer to host 3GB/s
Host to/from drive (sustained) 128MB/s
As of today, My HDD is extremly slow.
I want to know that writing speed bandwidth for defective HDD.
(e.g. Writing speed (40 ~ 70M/s) is defective)

Extremely slow after reboot, reformat, Tiger-reinstall. Need new HDD?
Got the late 2006 white intel iMac 17" in feb 2007. It started a couple of weeks back from now with choppy flash video playback. So I tried removing flash plugin, reinstalling and then removing and reinstalling browsers. Did not work. So I decided to clean the apps a bit and used AppDelete or something like it to remove apps and files associated with them. Removed some widgets, parts of Adobe CS3 and other. Bad move apparently...
After an extremely long reboot everything was changed; it was as if I had 2 mb of RAM instead of my 2 GB (upgraded). I guess I had too many programs up and running at the same time, but something was wrong. Windows XP (Bootcamped) was functional but shared the problem; seemingly low RAM or extremely slow HDD. For example; I could easily play COD4 (lowest settings, but that was from before. Still topping the servers tho ;)), but switching between software was a pain.
So I formatted the mac partition and reinstalled Tiger. An install that took two full days ( ! ). This didn't solve the problem; as soon as the HDD need to write or read it freezes. Scrolling web-pages, installing software or buffering flash video takes obscene amounts of time.
Anyway, I formatted the intire drive including the "Win"-side, re-reinstalled Tiger (took me an entire week of coming home from work, inserting next disk, coming home from work the next day, finding an kernel panic (gray screen, restart text?), restarting) and here I am now. I have switched back to my initial 1 GB RAM just to see if the "new" RAM was the problem but it is still the same.
So my conclusion is that the HDD is failing. But the hardware check on the Tiger-disks came back OK. And how can the harddrive have been "damaged" from removing the wrong software and then rebooting? Or is this all just coincidence?
What should I do? I talked to the guys at the local Mac support center and they agreed on the HDD and said I should buy a new one and let them install it (for 168$, then I'd buy HDD elsewere for 100$ maybe).
Do YOU agree? Is there something I should try before putting out a lot of money? Smells like something for the warranty, but even for swedish laws it's too late (it's one year here).With no insight whatsoever from the manufacturer of the copier, I reformatted the internal hard disk. Life is back to normal! Apparently these HDs get fragged just like any other, so a periodic reformatting may take care of sluggish performance. Either that or the original formatting of the internal HD wasn't "compatible" with OS X.

Extremely slow performance with NEW hdd
Ok guys, this is pretty frustrating. Today I bought 2 new external hdd's, same manufacturer, same model. One of them seems to work great, but the other one.. well look at this:

Finder extremely slow, trash takes ages and some USB-devices don't work
My MacPro is lightning fast when booted without extensions (shift down), but when I boot normally some apps work fine, but the Eye TV usb receiver won't work.
Emptying trash might take hours for 1 or 2 files.
Copying files from one HDD to another takes ages

installing software will often not work.
awkwardly enough FCP seems to work fine while simple use of the finder is nerve wrecking.

Satellite A300 (PSAGCA-02Y010) - Is extremly slow
Bought A300 with Vista which was so slow.
I even turned off loads of features trying to make it a bit quicker but still slow, so I loaded XP and yet its still to slow takes ages (5mins) at least to start. Right click takes ages copying all of it is so slow, it hangs doing the most easy things.
My old laptop I bought in 1999 is quicker than my new 4GB RAM dual processor 2k laptop what gives and what could be the problem.
I have up to date software drivers ect also the CD/DVD is broken has anyone else had these problems and would you know how to sort it out?

Its not easy to say what the reason is why your notebook is so slow but do you have the same issue with factory settings?
I mean the preinstalled Windows Vista version with all drivers and tools from Toshiba. So take the Toshiba recovery disk and try it. Then you can post your result.
Two years ago I had a similar issue. My new notebook was extremely slow and the reason for this problem was the HDD. It had defective sectors and so it did make the computer extremely slow. After exchanging the HDD all was working well.
You can check the HDD with Drive Fitness Test. Use Google to find this test and its freeware. -

I recently checked my internet connection on my Asus G53SW and found that it was extremely slow on both the LAN and WLAN connections. I checked with a different laptop (old HP Pavilion) and I get a steady 74mbps+ connection using the same LAN cable and
also with the WLAN connection. My ISP has checked their side and everything is fine.
To try and resolve the issue I tried uninstalling, disabling and tweaking various software and even tried safe mode with networking, all to no avail. I then decided to do a complete fresh install this afternoon. I have installed Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit)
successfully onto my SSD and everything went smoothly. I have now only installed Nvidia video drivers and the (only) WLAN driver from the Asus support site.
My WLAN connection remains incredibly slow (amost half what it is on the HP and my MacBook Pro). Clearly this is an issue with either the Asus laptop or Windows but I don't know how to proceed in order to eliminate which it could be other than to try a different
o/s to W7-Ult.
Can anyone help who knows more about this than me? Perhaps someone who has had a similar or the same problem because this is giving me a severe headache!

As I stated in my original post the reason I went through this process was because of an extremely slow internet connection from both the WLAN and LAN connections on my G53SW. At that time I had all of the correct drivers on the
machine. Whilst I would agree that with the machine only having a video and WLAN driver it may well not be working 'optimally', the rationale for doing this was to get the machine working with the minimum of processes to show that it was not anti-virsu software,
Steam or the like causing interference.
I have changed out both of the HDDs this evening (a primary SSD and a secondary 1Tb HDD) for a clean hybrid 1Tb Seagate drive. Once I have installed all of the Asus drivers (and nothing else) I will try the speed test again and report back.
I can now report that with a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 and ONLY Asus drivers as supplied the issue remains. On a connection where I should see around 75mbps I am actually getting around 18mbps, sometimes considerably slower. This only affects
my Asus machine.

Initial Time Machine Backup - Extremely Slow/Freeze
Hello,
I recently switched my external HDDs and began utilizing a different HDD in conjunction with Time Machine. I have used this HDD in the past with Time Machine and never had a problem. The initial backup is proceeding at an extremely slow rate and often freezes - as of writing, it is currently standing at 125.3MB of 1.07TB - About 1,172 days. I have erased and reformatted the drive (Mac OS Extended (Journaled)), tested data transfer rates to it by transferring files myself (normal rate), repaired permissions, verified my disks, tried the initial backup while spotlight was off and have forced a spotlight re-index, allowing it to go to completion before attemtping a backup - however, no solution has thus far worked. I have not made any large changes to my computer since I switched the HDDs either.
Does anybody know what could be causing such a problem and how to fix this? Many thanks for any help,

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes) in the String Matching text field. You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard." Note the timestamp of the last such message. Clear the text field and scroll back in the log to that time. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don't post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Macbook Pro running extremely slow since updating to Yosemite
Hello All,
I am new to the community and I'm hoping your pooled expertise can assist me with my issues. I went ahead and posted the results of my diagnostic scan below. My main concerns are that my Macbook Pro is now extremely slow after OSX updates. Also, laptop is running extremely hot to touch. I have mentioned other ongoing issues. I offer thanks in advance for any assistance.
Problem description:
Macbook Pro 13":
Purchased in mid-2010.
Most Recent Issue (Main Concern):
(1) I recently updated OS X from Mountain Lion to Maverick. Computer began running extremely slow and “jerky.”
(1.1) Shortly after this I updated to OS X Yosemite. Computer runs, and types, even slower than before.
Ongoing Issues (Greater than one year):
(1) Extremely short battery life (may last two hours on full charge)
(2) Macbook runs extremely hot to touch (fan runs continuously but can’t begin to keep it cool)
(3) SD Card reader doesn't recognize/open an SD card when inserted.

This may well be a dying disk and/or a very bad battery.
Do following:
make a new etrecheck list and in the problem description put what Applications->Utilities->SystemInformation says about the battery (under the Power heading in the left panel): give cycle count and battery condition.
Then post the link in a new thread.
In the meantime the crash report is probably a French Dictionary issue (font? garcon garçon) you have installed, uninstall that and see if it happens again.

MacBook Pro Extremely slow for unknown reason.
Even typing this message is taking an age.
I woke up this morning, picked up my laptop and it's just being a right toad!
It's extremely slow and sluggish and won't even open some apps (Skype seems to be causing MAJOR problems and made the computer freeze big time - which I've never seen before) And mail just throws a hissy fit when checking for mail.
I uninstalled skype and it seems to have made a LITTLE bit of difference.
Even doing a spellcheck takes about a minute, it's silly.
I've done SMC and PRAM reset but it's had no effect at all. I've also repaired disk permissions.
I'm all out of options now. I've reset the computer about 10 times, deleted some temp files, emptied the trash, cleared the HDD - Everything.
The one thing I'm worried about is that it STINKS of a virus.....
I'm tired of seeing the beach ball of death and the power button is nearly worn out.
Any help is mucho appreciatedFirst your machine is NOT affected by a virus because none as in zero, nada, zip, nope exist for OS X. What it sounds like to me though is 1 of 2 possibilities, both related to your HD. First is it's too full, Mac's need a minimum of 10-15% of the disk available at all times. For example if your drive is 250GB it always should have at least 25-38GB available. If you aren't sure how much yours has in Finder click it and then type Command + I and it will tell you the size and how much is available.
The next thing I think it might be is that it's failing. I would recommend running Apple Hardware Test in Extended Mode immediately and see if it reports any errors.

When I go to disk utility I can't see the smart status of the hard drive either, but i can verify and repair it all and it seems just fine. Im also confused by the size of the backup disk error thing as well.

Extremely slow download from Itunes store when on NAS
Hi All,
Since the latest Itunes update 10.6 I've been experiencing extremely slow download from the store. Set up is as follows (with all the latest firmware and software upgrades done on everything)
ITunes DB and XML locally stored on HDD
Itunes Media Folder stored on NAS DNS-323
DNS 323 NAS hardwired to network by 1000 Gb LAN Connection
Cabled Internet connection at 60Mbps
There is no issue running Itunes from the NAS to MAC / APPLETV and other devices across the network wirelessly or hardwired, except when downloading purchases from the ITunes Store. One HD tv show takes 4 hours to download and averages 1Mbps speed.
After running some test with various configuration it seems that the fact that the Downloads folder located within the ITunes Media folder (now stored on the NAS) is causing the poor download speed. When the Download folder is local on a HDD it's got no problem reaching 60Mbps.
Unfortunately there is no way to tell ITunes to keep the Downloads folder local and the ITunes Media folder on NAS, it always stays within the Itunes Media folder no matter where this folder is located.
Permitting Itunes to keep the Downloads folder locally while downloading files and transferring the files to the ITunes Media folder (wherever it's located) once it's fully downloaded might be the simple solution to this common problem.
How about testing this out Apple!I have some information to add to this. I've been seeing these problems for quite some time since I started downloading in HD. My library is rather large so I too decided to use another drive. My case is different though I have and extra 2 TB internal drive and my media folder is on it. This rules out all Wifi, network, or USB bottlenecks as a cause of the problem. I have noted a few oddities about this behavior and I will mention them here although I am not sure what they mean.
1. If I set up a long list of downloads it seems to crawl on all downloads. If I kill the "apple push" process the top two seem to speed up. I have to maintain the list and only enable two downloads at a time to get anywhere near reasonble speeds but this method is great for one or two downloads at a time.
2. I was curious about this problem after watching it download for hours on a 24MBPS connection for just a few shows. When I did yet another search I finally found this thread so I thought checking something out might be interesting. I set up some HD movies to download on my secondary system that only has one hard drive. Although not at full speed they began downloading much faster. Three movies are all downloading on the single drive system faster than the one alone on the system with the Itunes media folder on a different drive.
Both systems are hard wired to the internet.
Finding this thread made me very curious I was wondering if there would be a performance boost if I uninstalled Itunes, and re-installed it on the media drive. I really wanted that drive to be storage only but it makes me wonder if it would give different results or the same problem from not being on the OS drive.
Both systems are running Windows 7, and both are able to download streaming content, large files, or movies from other sites relatively instantly. -
Update to Mavericks 10.9.5 made my MacBook Pro extremely slow!
Update to 10.9.5 made my MacBook Pro (2011) extremely slow. I upgraded on the 30th Sep and since then it's getting worse and worse. Today was totally impossible to work with it.
It freezes in Safari or iTunes, several Apps crash, Numbers stops responding all the time, loses wifi, loses connectivity with printer/scanner, overheats, puts memory into pressure and drains battery. I have run Disk Utility, repaired permissions but nothing works. I have already backed up my stuff to an external drive.

In fact, the major problem happened around 04:00pm yesterday, the 14th. It has been getting worse since the update on the 30th.
I tried as much as possible to be selective but in 2 hrs a lot happened. Most of code repetitions were deleted.

Adobe premiere cs6 suddenly EXTREMELY slow and CPU intensive
Hi everyone,
I'm editing candon 5d mk III footage (h.264 files) on my late 2011 MacBook pro. Here are the specs..
240 gig SanDisk SSD harddrive (190 gigs free)
500 Gig (250 gigs free)
8 gigs ram
2.4 ghz i5 processor
Intel HD graphics 3000 graphics card
I'm a wedding videographer and I am currently closing my last edits of the season. I have edited 20+ 45 minute videos on Adobe Premiere CS6 and have had absolutely no issues at all. I enjoy working on premiere so much that I've been trying to get my videographer friends to give a shot and simplify their workflows.
Upon starting my second to last edit (same process as the other 18 videos I've done this season, organizing the footage within it's respective folder, loading it into premiere with the couples' choice in music and opening 4-5 new sequences based on the events of the day) I noticed that I was having a lot of trouble importing folders into my media bin. I had to import all of the footage unorganized because loading the folders "Preperation, Ceremony, Photos, Reception" with the footage within them would cause premiere to freeze and become unrepsonsive. So, finding no solution I added all the footage in no particular fashion. Just one large unorganized group. Then, while organizing the files into bins, I noticed even the smallest move would take several minutes to complete. Because I was working directly off of my hard drive I figured these kinds of delays would eventually catch up to me, so I moved all of my files to my HDD and decided to work on them there. The project itself continued to be extremely slow and started crashing regularly (especially when applying audio effects). After a few hours, I stopped being able to play 1080p video at all. It would jam and stutter so often it become unuseable. 720p video was the next to go along with my ability to render anything in less than 30 minutes - 1 hour. At last attempt to use premiere I was getting an "Unable to compile movie - Unknown Error" message when trying to render alpha channel things (lower third titles and things of the nature), my ability to change the resolution of the playback had disappeared (Going from full, 1/2 and 1/4 did nothing, it just remained at full quality) and finally doing anything in premiere caused it to use 300% of my CPU (based off of my Activity Monitors metering).
Does anybody have any clue as to what could be happening to my machine/program? I have a yearly subscription to adobe's creative cloud service if that helps. Oh and I've tried moving my media cache's from my HDD to my SDD with little or no results. Don't know if that helps.

What I believe to be clean installs aren't doing anything so I'm hoping somebody can give me a hand.Sounds to me like specific media is dragging the Mac to a halt. (300%, really Apple? Isn't that like saying that my car can go up to 90mph, but last night I drove it at 300% speed, 270mph)
Some things to trouble shoot:
Do you have any assets in the project that are loaded directly from strange devices, like a SD card or CD audio? Any dynamic link media that may be problematic?
Is there anything that makes this footage different than footage from successful projects?
Can you work successfully with an old project?
Can you successfully start a new project using different or less media?
Is the 500 GB drive internal or external?
One time I was sent out at from work to troubleshoot a system that would freeze up like yours. The guy was an idiot and rude client that demanded that someone from our facility help him fix his own project. He said that he had been troubleshooting for a day, and then had convinced his organization's IT guy that he needed a way over spec new pc to run Premiere.
His system was fine. Within 3 minutes of checking media in his project, I saw that top track of the problem sequence had a video clip that was set to a speed of .01%, and he had the clip stretched for 24hours in the sequence. His project was supposed to be a 2 minute PSA. All his issues went away after removing the idiotic Day Long slow motion clip. He complained to my boss because I had laughed at him.
I relate that story to illustrate that it could be a weird thing with you media or fx, just as well as a hardware or software issue.

Hello everyone.
I own a copy of Photoshop CS6.
Switching from Photoshop CS to CS6, I have found this version to be extremely slow and I can not find a reason why it is like this. It is impossible for me to work on it.
Problem: Slow performance, when using the brush tool there is a long delay - lag. The brush takes more than 8 seconds to catch up with my strokes.

Windows 7 x64 SP1
CPU:
AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE
GPU:
Radeon 6790 OC @ 920Mhz
RAM:
A-Data DDR3 1333Mhz CAS9 4GB (x2)

Samsung SATA 1TB
Tried:
- Memory usage allowed upgraded to 6GB, nothing changed.
- Default selected "Scratch Disk" is the main SSD which has over 58GB of free space, I've tried selecting the secondary HDD as well but nothing changes.
- Disabled the "Use Graphic Processor" square. nothing changed.
- Disabled the "Use open CL" square in advanced Graphic Processor Settings. Nothing changed.
- Changed power management settings in windows to "High Performance". nothing changed.
- Disabling tablet pc service doesn't help.
Notes:
- Graphic drivers are the latest release on AMD website
- Windows is completely updated
- SSD Firmware is the latest available.
- The issue happens both with mouse and tablet.
- 1px brush and 5000px brush lag just alike in zoomed and not zoomed canvas.
- This happens on both x64 and x86 versions of the software.
Any help is aprecihated.

Wow, they went out on a limb and said that? AMD clearly is denying any problems just as any corporate entity appears to do nowadays. Didn't someone once say "shoot all the laywers"?
It's pretty clear the Catalyst 12.4 release is a bust with Photoshop. Lots of people have seen that. And I just checked - AMD hasn't released Catalyst 12.5 yet.

But I agree that your card is MORE than powerful enough. Mine is slower than yours and my Photoshop experience is quick and interactive. There is a SPECIFIC PROBLEM that's manifesting here.
But just to be absolutely, completely, undeniably sure we're not talking about a performance issue with very large files, please do the following:
1. Create a new, blank document as follows:
2. Choose the Brush Tool then reset it by right-clicking in the little brush icon at the upper-left and choosing Reset Tool:
3. Make the brush 1000 pixels in size, fully soft.
4. Set the foreground color to something other than white and brush quickly from the upper-left corner of the image to the lower-right. Roughly how many seconds does it take for the actual on-canvas stroke to get all the way to the bottom (i.e., how far behind does it get)?
Is it:
Nearly instantaneous?
One second behind?
Many seconds behind?
On my system with this big brush and huge image, it gets about 1 second behind.
