My headphone port only works through one ear, is there an easy fix?

Hi, I have always been careful to not leave my headphones plugged in when I'm not using my iPod (classic), but yesterday for some reason no music will play through the right headphone. I have tried three different sets of headphones and it's the same will all of them so it has to be the iPod, is there an easy fix at all? if i have to have it fixed does anyone know how much it might cost?
Thanks, Lauren.

I don't think it's possible anymore. I'm mildly surprised you were able to keep podcasts in regular playlists this long - I thought this option disappeared back with iOS7.
I do share your pain. I've finally grown used to having the podcasts in a separate app, but I still don't like it.

  • Headphones only work in one ear...WHY?

I have an ipod touch and the head phones only work in one ear.... Have tried them in my iphone and the headphones work fine
    Any ideas
    Thanks

    - Insert and remove the headphone plug a dozen times or so
    - Restore the iPod. Try to factory defaults/new iPod too.
    - If still problem then you have a hardware problem. Like the headphone jack is bad.

  • Sound only comes through one ear bud

Sound is now only coming through one ear bud.  When I check the headphones with other devices, both ear buds have sound, so it must be the iPod.  Has anyone experienced something similar.

It usually a likely indicator that your headphone jack is damaged and in need of replacement.  You can have it serviced by Apple or a third party repair service for a little less.

When I use my IPod do listen to music my ear phones only works on one ear

    - You have verified that the problem is the iPod and not the headphones, right?
    - Try inserting/removing the headphone plug a dozen times or so. Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order. Likely a bad headophone jack.

  • IPhone headphones have stopped working in one ear.

iPhone 5 headphones have stopped working in one ear. I've tried it on multiple devices and they still won't work. Is there anything I can do?

If the headphones exhibit the same issue on multiple devices, the headset is the issue.
Everything that was included in the box with the iPhone is covered under the same 1yr warranty.  Take them to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.

  • My 3gs has stopped playing through the speakers and when the headphones are plugged in only plays through one ear? it still ring when called and everything else seems fine, whats the problem? it seems like the phone thinks the earphones are always in?

my 3gs has stopped playing music through the speakers, they play with headphones but only through one ear. It seems the phone thinks the headphones are in all the time. The ringer still works when called and i have cleaned the headphone socket the best i can without damaging the phone! Any ideas?

I had the same issue, 4s running ios8, but the plugging and unplugging the headphones did not work, BUT, when I tried plugging and unplugging from the DOCK, it started to work again. There must have been a short in the power plug, not the headphones. I also blew out the bottom power plug with computer safe airjet. Hope this one helps anyone else having the issue.

  • Audio only coming through one ear

Hi, my fifth generation iPod only has audio coming through one ear, and I know that this is an issue with the audio port, and the contact points wearing out. I know it is not my headphones, but is there any way to clean the points, or to replace the audio port without buying a whole new iPod?

I believe I have the same problem with you guys but managed to get it solved.
Firstly, I noticed the sound only came out from Right side of the headphone. Moreover, it only came out at maximum level which I cannot turn volume down. When I tried, I could only either have maximum level volume or mute (when turn volume lower to minimum).
I tried taking the jack out half way.. and I had sound for both ears but still at max level.
Then I searched here and found the suggestion for basic steps of 5R.. Reset, Retry, Reinstall, Restore.. (only remember 4 out of 5 here)
Anyway, after my first try with 'Reset' -
    1) toggle 'hold' button to on and off position then
    2) hold both 'select' button and 'menu' button down at the same time for 6-10seconds.
After I turned my ipod on again, I have volume in both ears and I can certainly adjust volume level now. This solves the problem for me.
The only issue now is that I think I have louder volume on left ear than the right one this time but only slightly.
Hope this works for you guys.

  • Ipod only works in one ear. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

My first generation ipod touch only works in one headphone. I've tried 10 different pairs of headphones but with all of them the sound only plays in the left ear. It works in both speakers when i plug it into the speaker that connects to its wider slot (the opening on the ipod next to where the headphones are plugged in) but when i use a cord that connects to the headphone slot that lets me play my ipod on my cars speakers it only works on the left side speaker.
I don't know what's wrong with it and i really need your help, so PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!

This exact thing happened to my first gen touch. Sadly, I don't have good news for you. First side of the earphone jack stopped working. A few weeks later the headphone jack wouldn't work at all. (Using the docking slot along the bottom still worked fine the whole time, just as you said.) Unfortunately it's not possible to replace the headphone jack without replacing other major components inside the touch so it's very expensive to repair. I could not fix the problem and had to buy a new touch.

  • Audio port only plays through one speaker

Hi i have a 2nd gen i pod touch and audio only come through the right speaker in my head phones i have used multiple head phones and the same problem occurs, ik its not the head phones bc they work fine when hooked up to any thing else.
so i assume its the jack that has the problem.
    PLZ help ASAP

If restoring the iPod t factory default via iTunes doe not solve the problem then it is very likely a hardware problem. This place will fix it for $58:

Alternate is to use BT headphones.

  • Sound only works in one ear

My ipod just stopped playing in the left ear for no reason. I haven't dropped it or anything. It's not the headphones, I have tried the same headphones on other electronics and they play fine. I have tried multiple pairs of headphones and they all only play in one ear

its your audio jack...its happened to my ipod before...you can buy one for real cheap on ebay...they go for no more than 10 bucks...you have to install it yourself though...its not that hard just that theres alot of little screws

  • When im putting my headphones in my ipod plugged it only works in one ear, is it garanteed ?

Everytime i want to listen to music i plugged my head phones in my ipod and on one side it never works.
Its not a probleme from my headphones cause i used it on my computer and it was working well.

Try pluggin in other headphones to the iPod. If it stills doesn't work, take it to an Apple Store ASAP. It sounds like you have a faulty iPod.

  • My headphones only work through one earbud

i heard that apple will send you a free pair of them. or is that complete bull and i have to go buy some?

Not "complete bull" as you put it.
Fill in a service request at http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
stating that the earphones don't work.
Apple will send you a pair free of charge if you send back your broken ones in the envelope provided when the new ones are delivered.
They do ask for credit/debit card details, so that if the broken pair are not returned there is a £9, (not sure how many dollars) charge.
To put it simply, you will get new ones free of charge as long as you send the broken ones back, otherwise, they'll charge you.

  • My headphones only work in one ear. Have I altered a setting my accident?

My toddler plays with my iPod, has he altered a setting by accident?

    - Have you tried another pair of headhones or tested the headphones on another device to determine if an earphone or iPod problem?
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Check also Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing. Make sure that the sound balance is not set all the way to "R".

  • Headphone jack not working in one ear :/

I have a mac book pro retina which has no damage at all to the laptop itself, I only bought it last November. And suddenly out of nowhere when I have headphones in the left ear doesn't work, it's really quiet and you can barley hear it, i've tried 4 pairs of different headphones and its the same with them all, so not a problem with them. So i'm Not sure if this is a soft wear problem or a problem with the mac itself? Helppppp?

  • My sound only works through the ear phones with some apps....

With some apps (Games and books) I can only get sound on my IPAD 2 though the earphones...this just recently occured. With movies the sound goes through the speakers just fine.  Is there some adjustment I can make so I can hear the games without using the ear phones?

Make sure that you haven't got notifications muted (which will affect most games, but not iPod or Videos apps, nor earphones). Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to, notifications can either be muted by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar (the function that the switch isn't performing is on the task bar instead) : double-click the home button to bring up the task bar, slide the bar to the right, and it's the icon far left. There is more info about the switch and the task bar and the mute/rotation lock functions here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
