My headphones suddenly don't work on iPod 3rd Gen 32Go

Hi there,
This morning, my headphones worked normaly. This afternoon, they didn't. I tried my friend's headphones to verify if it wasn't mines that were broken, but they didn't work either. I plugged them on my friend's iPod nano and it did the job... I reinitialized my iPod to be sure it wasn't an application problem, but it didn't change anything. *Can somebody tell me if it's possible to correct the problem myself or if I should send my iPod to Apple?* I know it can take a few weeks and my guarantee is over, so it would be better if I can deal with it myself.
Thanks,
Shirohime

I've tried different headphones and none work. When I plug the headphones in, no sound comes from them, but the sound from the laptop changes. It gets softer but that's about all I can say. This laptop has been out of the box for three days so I'm a little pissed off.

If your iPad is still under warrantee, contact Apple for advice on how to get it repaired or replaced.
If your iPad is no longer covered by the warrantee, search the web for iPad Repair.  There is probably an iPad repair center near you.

  • My cover flow does not work on my 3rd gen 64 gb ipod touch

My cover flow does not work on my 3rd gen 64 gb ipod touch and neither does shake to shuffle.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

AirPrint not working on my 3rd gen iPod touch.
It works on my iPhone and ipad2.
I have a new HP printer.

AirPring requires a 3G or later iPod.  Are you sure you have a 3G iPod?  A 2G iPod can only go to iOS 4.2.1 and that is what you say you have. If yours is an 8 or 16 GB one it is a 2G. A 32 GB can be either. See:

  • IPod 3rd gen not working with universal dock

My old iPod 3rd gen (15GB, touch wheel, dock connector) worked great with the old dock, until the latter started scratching noises when outputting audio to my stereo. Still charges the iPod though.
So, I tried old iPod with the universal dock I got for my Touch and found the following problems:
    1. iPod is not being charged through new dock plugged to wall adapter
    2. touch wheel menu control is not working as long as iPod sits in universal dock plugged to the wall adapter - the sound of clicks is all I get, but no control of menu or any other function. In order to select playlist or use any other function through touch wheel or any of 4 buttons I need to unplug power from the dock (it is not charging anyway)
    3. remote is not working at all
    Otherwise playback is OK.
Any ideas what may be the culprit here? Apple states that Universal dock is compatible with 3rd generation of iPod and up.

    Hello Andrew,
What a coincidence as I too have had to find a new dock for my 3rd gen ipod. This week I purchased an Apple AV Connection kit - but found that it would not charge the ipod or respond to the remote. I also bought and tried a Belkin AC adapter with cable to power up the ipod but it too would not charge the ipod.
To see if these units were working I connected them to a friend's brand new ipod classic and both the Belkin and Apple AV Connection Kit worked fine - so there is something different about the 3rd gen ipod.
I'm not sure if this helps you - but at least you know it's not just your ipod that is not working with the new dock.

  • IPOD 3rd Gen not recognized by itunes on firewire but it does on USB

    Hi,
I have a 3rd gen Ipod (the one with the buttons) since its release date.
    It worked perfectly with FIREWIRE.
Months ago i restore it and now it's a mess.
I have to connect it via USB to sync it with my itunes library, to
delete music, to add new one, or use it as a hard disk. But,
the battery doesn't charge (actually the battery now only lasts for 1 hour)
If i want to charge the battery i have to connect the ipod to the computer
via FIREWIRE, but it doesn't get recognized by itunes, so i cant update
    it.
I wanted to restore the ipod but if i connect it via USB, itunes send me a message
that i have to connect it via firewire in order to restore it. But if I connect it
via FIREWIRE i can't restore it because ITUNES doesn't recognize it.
I hope someone can help me.
    thanks a lot

  • IPod 3rd Gen Not Connecting to Windows AT ALL

i have an iPod 3rd Gen 10gb. I use firewire to connect it to my iPod. When i connect it, it shows that it is charging but that is all. my computer won't recognize it at all. i tried a new cable, a new firewire card, i bought a USB cable, reinstalling iPod software and iTunes, the 4 R's obviously not restoring cuz it wont connect. i basically tried everything but no luck. any help would be appreciated.

Do you use iTunes 7? If so please read the Topic I posted. Apperently I got the same problem with a new Nano. I discovered that when you attach the iPod DURING a Windows XP reboot it WILL WORK and see the iPod ...... until you disconnect again.

  • I recently purchased Windows 8 laptop and installed Office 2013. I then installed iTunes. After moving all my music to the new PC, I got iTunes to import it and sync it to my iPod (3rd gen).  However, I cannot get iTunes to sync my Outlook Contacts

I recently purchased a Windows 8 laptop and istalled Office 2013.  I then installed iTunes. After moving all my music to my new PC I got iTunes to import it, and then synced it to my iPod (3rd gen.) However, I cannot get iTunes to sync my Outlook Calendar or Contacts with my iPod.  When I try it crashes Outlook.  iTunes continues to try to sync, but when it finishes my Calendar and Contents are empty (ERASED!).  I have de-installed and re-installed iTunes (according to Apple's instructions), repaired Office 2013 and Outlook, scanned for viruses (etc), cleaned out temp folders, defragmented, etc., etc., etc. Has anyone seen this before, and does anyone know houw to fix it?  (HELP!)

Well, I guess I have to download some other software to make my apple product work. Really great stuff you guys sell. I will never buy another apple product. My Iphone, Ipod and Itunes are junk

  • Old iPod 3rd gen not showing up in iTunes

Hi, I realize this may be a futile effort but I thought I would give it a try.
I have an old ipod, 3rd gen 15GB that still works fine, stores a lot of music and plays fine. I would like to update and restore it. I have the old computer I used it with, an iBook G4 OSX 10.4.11 running iTunes 8.2.1, the most updated it can get for this computer I think.
Im just wondering how I can restore the ipod and put mp3s on it. It doesnt show up in itunes but appears to be charging when I plug it in with the old firewire cable. its working ok to the best of my knowledge and I would like to do a hard reset or something but I cant figure out how. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Hey there Miles,
It sounds like your iPod isn't showing in iTunes when you connect it to your Mac. I would start with this bit from the following article:
    iPod not appearing in iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3716
First, try the steps in the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant which applies to your iPod.
If you still cannot get the device to appear in iTunes, use the following link to help troubleshoot it:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for OS X
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591?viewlocale=en_US
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • IPod 3rd Gen 32gb cannot update to 5.1.1

    Greetings,
I have been trying to update my ipod 3rd gen to 5.1.1 and cannot seem to update it at all.  Gives me device could not be found but it syncs absolutely fine.  To confirm that it is a 3rd gen I do have safari as the web browser.
The computer I have is brand new and I copied all my music over from backup dvds that I had.  I run Win 7 home premium 64 bit, itunes is in fact the 64 bit version.  Nothing I have tried works whatsoever.  Please help.

    Try:
    - Reboot the computer
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Try a different cable
    - Try a different USB port
    - Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

  • Connectivity issues bet ipod 3rd gen and winxp / win 7

Device: ipod 3rd gen (in excellent working condition with new battery)
    OS: win xp, win 7
As fire wire ports are no longer available on laptops with win OS, I bought a new apple cable that connects to the dock connector on the ipod and the other end of the cable has a usb port. Now when I connect the ipod to a win XP PC it shows as up a "removable disk drive" and the ipod displays "disk mode". But the itunes (ver10.5.2.11 - the latest ver) does not detect the ipod at all. A strange predicament. I wonder if there are any drivers that I need to install for windows to be able to see the ipod. Pl advice on location and the ver / name of driver that I may download from somewhere.

Your problem is the connection. The 3rd generation iPod requires Firewire which will charge the battery while it is connected. It will not work with USB. There is hope-Apple used to sell a combo USB/Firewire cable(USB connects to the computer and Firewire to the A/C adapter) and I think others now manufacture a similar cable.
