My home button is not popping back into place after pressing it

My home button is not popping back into place after pressing it. Thus a double click is nearly impossible. It takes a while until it is back in place and i can press it again. Anything I can do? May that because of dirt in the ultrafine gap between glass and button?

One thing you can try is to reset (reboot) the iPad.  Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow.  The iPad will restart in a couple of minutes.  Resetting this way will not hurt anything, and sometimes clears up mysterious problems.
If the Apple logo never appears, you may have a broken button.  If your iPad is less than a year old and still in warranty. Apple should repair or replace it.  If it is convenient, show it to an Apple Store Genius.  Otherwise, look for a nearby Authorized Apple Repair Center.

  • Button does not pop back.

    Hi,
I trigger  a dialog on mouse down event on one button which is located on my GUI. But  after the user finished the dialog the button that invoked the dialog does not pop back. Is the button supposed to pop back automatically or am I supposed to programatically pop it back?
    Thanks.

    Hmm,
I just checked the button and it says  "Latch when pressed". Will changing event to "Value change" help me?
No, this will not help. In order for a latch action boolean to revert, it needs to be read by the code, i.e. be in the dataflow. If the terminal of the boolean is somewhere random on the diagram there is no garantee that it will get read after a press (e.g. If the terminal is outside the main while loop, it will be in the dataflow exactly once at the start of the program and then never again).
Why don't you attach a simplified version of your program so we can see where the problem is.

  • I phone 3gs home button is not working properly

    Hi Folks..
From the last few days my I phone 3GS is giving me a hard time.. Its HOME BUTTON is not working properly. Have to press it 2-3 times and have to press it hard to make it work. I am now running 5.1 iOS, it had the same problem with 5.0.1 iOS too. Can you suggest me what to do??? Do i need to take it to the service centre????

I've just noticed this too, after updating my 3GS to iOS 5.1.  It seems to be happening off and on, but it is more of a problem when the phone has set locked and idle for a few minutes.
I usually wake it from sleep with the power button, unlock it, and wait for the ability to use the home button.
It might be worth it to take it to the Genius Bar or at least try to live chat with Apple Customer Service.
    I feel your pain.

My "home" button does not work... what can I do to fix it? Or can i bring it into a Verizon/Apple store to have it fixed?

    Verizon does not fix/repair/replace devices.
Apple provides all hardware support in the US.
Take it to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement.
FYI, they do not fix devices, so backup your device prior to going to the store.

yesterday my iPod touch's home button would not work and to day it is completely turned off and wont turn back on and it is fully charged and when i connect it to itoons it dosent reckinise it

Given the information supplied, it sounds very similar to what happened to my wife's 4.  Locked up...came back on with a blank (bluish) screen...could here emails and text coming through.  It would get very hot as well.  Our local apple store tried two times to rescue it, ultimately rendering it complete inoperable.  I'm sorry to say in our case we had to buy a refurb and trade in the phone for $150, which actually wasn't a bad deal.
There could be other information I'm missing, but I would start with seeing if apple can restore your phone.  If they can't, then I'm pretty sure it's dead.

  • New ipad 2 home button is not responsive

I got a refurbished ipad 2 from apple store and when i open the ipad at home, i see the iPad 2 home button is not so responsive. I tried resetting but it didnt work.
Do i need to take it apple store or return back.

Exactly the same i got a replacement Ipad 2 weeks before my warranty ran out, after about a week of working perfect the home button starting playing up. I inserted the power cord into the bottom and pulled up on it slightly so it pushes up on the home button and it has worked perfect all week until last night,so i did it again and its fine again but for how long? If it does it again im going to return it again as you get 90 days warranty on the replacement,it must be a hardware issue.

  • The home button is not working on my iPhone 4

My home button has not been working for ages. It works about once every 10 clicks. It feels like it has something stuck under it. Please help! It is really annoying.

Method 1: Calibrate (and possibly restore)
If you're lucky, your slow-to-respond home button is due to a software glitch. To find out, you'll need to calibrate your home button. Here's how:
Open up a stock app, like the Clock. Hold down the sleep button until "Slide to power off" appears. When it does, let go of the sleep button and hold down the home button. After about 5-10 seconds, the app will close.
If this solved your problem, you are one lucky iPhone owner. If it didn't you may want to try restoring your iPhone before continuing to the second method.
Method 2: Realign the docking port
There is a chance that through normal wear and tear, your phone's docking port got misaligned, moving the home button along with it. Although a repair shop might suggest you replace the home button, this YouTuber offered a different solution.
Plug a USB cable into your iPhone. Then, gently push down on the 30-pin connector, so that it pushes up behind the home button. While you apply the pressure, click the home button. Remove the cable, and see if that fixed the problem.
Method 3: Clean the home button
A splash of soda, sticky hands, dirt in the bottom of your purse or pocket -- any of these things can damage your iPhone's home button.
For this fix, you'll need 98-99 percent isopropyl alcohol, which can be found at hardware stores. Using a cotton swab, eye dropper, or tissue, apply 2-3 drops of the isopropyl alcohol directly to the home button, avoiding the screen. Then, with a narrow, dull object (like the eraser on the back of a pencil), repeatedly tap the home button so that the alcohol seeps into the frame.
Wipe clean, and wait about 10-15 minutes before checking to see if that did the trick.
Method 4: Enable the on-screen home button
If the previous three methods did not work, it sounds like perhaps you have a completely defunct home button. In this case, your home button's connectors may have been misaligned and would require professional repair. (Or, if you're willing to brave it, iFixit shows you how to DIY.)
The good news is, you can still use your phone using its on-screen home button. Normally, this is used as an accessibility option, but it's also a common solution for those with non-functioning home buttons.
To enable the on-screen home button, go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Assistive Touch. Turn Assistive Touch on, and you'll see a small circle appear on screen.
Tapping that circle gives you four options: Home, Siri, More (for things like multitasking and playback controls), and Favorites. In your case, ignore Favorites, but tap this on-screen button whenever you need to access your home screen, activate Siri, or get all the options you'd normally see when you double-tap the home button.
If the on-screen home button ever gets in the way, simply tap and hold to drag it anywhere else along the frame of your screen.
It's hardly an ideal solution, but it'll hold you over until you're ready to purchase a new phone or get your current one fixed.

  • Home button does not bring me to the home screen

I bought an iPod Touch 16GB in the beginning of june. It was a gift, and has not been in use until yesterday. The home button is totally unresponsive. Pushing the home button will not give any respons at all. Whenever I launch an app, I'm stuck there, until I shut the device off or reset it.
We felt this might be a softwareproblem. The software was upgraded to 3.1.2
The iPod is fully charged. I have done a restart and a reset several times. All of the content on the iPod (music was the only thing put into it, no apps) is removed. I have reset all settings and the software is restored several times using the restore button in iTunes.
I can do a "hard reset" (holding down the sleep/wake button and the home button at the same time for 10 sec will give me the expected respons). So it seems the home button hardware is working.
I still believe this is some sort of software error. I have done everything suggested by Apple to sort out the problem, but nada!
This is a brand new iPod, it has never been used and I obviously will take it to the store and I am sure it will be fixed or replaced.
BUT: Does anyone have any suggestions, in case there are something I should have tried out first?

One more thing before you take it back to the store - try a restore. You will do this from within iTunes. Since you really don't have app data to concern yourself with, do a "restore as new". This will wipe it clean and reinstall the firmware. You can then sync to add everything back to it.

  • Ipod Touch home button is not responding! iOS 4.3.3....

I got my Ipod touch 4g used with an iOS of 4.3.3  on December 25th, 2011. It was February 7th, 2013 when the home button stopped working. Everytime I try to press the home button...it won't budge!
I have already restored it, got my data back on and deleted the other person's stuff, but I still can't update my iOSo the newest version so I will have the assistive hime button. Also, Ive already tried alchol but that won't work either. I don't have the money to go to apple or afford a new one. What should i do to fix this quickly without screwing my Ipod Touch up? I would really appreciate your help!
    Thanks.

  • Home Button will not depress.

    Hey all,
So I dropped my iPhone 4S the other day and the screen cracked which ***** but the worst part is that now the home button will not depress. I can push really hard and that will make it activate but there is no "clicking" sensation when pressing. It is really frustrating to have to push down really hard everytime I want to go back to the home screen.  I am hoping there is a way I can fix it without having to open up the phone before i go and get it replaced.
    Thank you.

The only advice is to go to an Apple Store and see if they can help.

  • Home button is not responding

    home button is not responding

Try a Reset... I know you said the Home Button appears to be not working... but it's worth a try...
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Release the Buttons.
If no joy... Try a Restore...
1: Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.
3: If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try using the steps in this article to force the device into recovery mode.
