After having spent EUR 130 on cables from apple, i still can not get video out from my ipod touch 3rd gen. Any ideas? It should nt be diffiicult to do this on the 21 st century, or not?

Backing up an iOS device will copy some data to a backup file within iTunes, but this excludes all media.  You can also transfer iTunes Store purchases from the iDevice to iTunes but, without using a third-party tool, nothing else.  As long as you do not sync the iPod with your new library, the media that's on it will remain ... for as long as it keeps functioning, is not lost, stolen, eaten by the dog, ...
You may also have an option to recover your previous library from your old laptop; as long as its hard drive isn't fried, a computer repair store or technician may be able to extract the drive, mount it in an external enclosure, and copy your data to another PC.  Whatever you choose, there is no real alternative to having all your media on your computer, managed by iTunes, and regularly backed up to another device/location.

No, I don't think anyone here would know.
Mine has done that once or twice.

If it is one year old minus one day it is still under warranty. If it is more than a year since you purchased it then yes, the warranty has expired.
Millions of iPads have been sold. Most continue to function long after their warranty has expired. Check the many requests about updating the iOS on the original iPad on these forums and you'll see that there are many iPads still working after three years. My iPad 2, which I had for over two years is still working well for my son in law who took it over from me when I bought a new one.
Given that there will always be a few iPads that fail early. Most of those will be covered under warranty. But some will fail after the warranty has expired and before the owner expected it to. I'm sorry to hear that you are in this category. Take your iPad to an Apple store and have it looked at. They will provide you with alternatives, one of which is to purchase a like model to the one that failed at a discount. You can then know your options and make the best choice for you.

iPhone 5s won't turn on after this update. Battery was at 98%, tried holding sleep & home button while plugged in, no good. Any ideas?

P.S. I just noticed; when I hold the power and home button at the same time while it's plugged in as if I was going to restart it, my computer acts as if I'd plugged it in again (it makes the USB notification sound, itunes opens up again, I get the same "your iphone is in recovery mode" message, etc.), but that's the only response I've been able to get from pressing anything on the iphone. thanks again.

  • Whats wrong with my home button on iPod touch?

The home button on my iPod touch (4th generation) seems to be stuck down. I have to press really hard in order for it to function, and sometimes it doesn't at all. Does anyone know why it is doing this and is there any way I can fix it myself at home? I would appreciate answers and advice, thanks.

  • What happens to the apps when I press the home button on iPod touch?

Yeah, I know that sounds obvious, but I need to know the idea behind it. In iOS 4, you can multitask, but only if you have an iPod touch 3rd generation (32 or 64 GB). I don't have an iPod touch 3rd generation; I have the 8 GB 2nd generation, which I upgraded to iOS 4, so I have no multitasking for 3rd party apps.
So my question is: On my 2nd generation iPod touch that runs iOS 4, if I close a 3rd party app that uses Push Notifications (such as Facebook or Textfree Unlimited) by pressing the home button, will it still run in the background?

I'm not dead certain of this, but I think the only push mail supported is Apple's MobileMe. When you launch another app the current app is closed. The Home button should close any running app. The only exception I've noted is if you are playing music on the Touch which seems to continue playing even when running another app.

  • Home button on ipod touch not working!!! how can i fix it? no warranty!!!!

my ipod touch home button is not working everything on the ipod works fine but the home button. i have to turn off the ipod and then turn it back on as a substitute fix. has anyone else had this problem? if you have any ideas or know how to fix it please help!!!! I've read that if i put a drop of alcohol or acetone on the home button it should fix the problem but im affraid of adding liquid to it and it stop working all together.

You can continue using the iPod without the home button:

my home button has today stopped working!  is there any way that this can be fixed, either by a repair shop or by me doing some thing?  at the moment the only way to get out of an app is to turn off the ipod and then tuirn it back on again - which is getting really tiresome and annoying!!
About 2 mnths ago the ipod was submerged in liquid but oonly for seconds, it has since worked fine (thank god) with no troubles, but like i said, today for some reason the home buttn is no longer doing its job!! please help lol !!

  • My ipod touch is not turning on, i tried to reset it holding home button   power but that does not work, any idea?

my ipod touch is not working , i tried to rest it holding the power button and home for a while but that does not help..
    any idea ?

Connect the iPod to its syncing computer.  Let it charge for 1/2 hour .  If iTunes sees the iPod restore it via iTunes
Next see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will make it visible in iTunes so you can restore the iPod.  For recovery mode see:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore

  • The sleep button on my 4G iPod Touch is stuck?  Any other option besides the genius bar?

I have a 4th generation iPod Touch.  Everything with my iPod was working well till about a week ago.  A week ago I went to use my sleep button and discovered it wasnt working.  When I removed my case I discovered the sleep button was stuck pressed into the iPod.
What I was wondering is if I had any other options?  Is it my best bet to run to the Genius Bar before my warranty goes out in a few weeks?

I resolved my 3194 error by deleting all the references to apple out of the hosts file.  I am still having major troubles but I was able to resolve this specific error.

  • Home button on ipod touch

Sometimes (starting today) my home screen and power screen button take photos when I push them (not together at the same time) making it hard to exit apps or put it in sleep mode. I have tried force restarting the ipod and that did nothing, I also restored to factory settings then reinstalled from my last back up which was from 2 weeks before this problem started. any other suggestions as to what is causing this and possible soutions?

If it's still happening after restoring the iPod touch and setting it up as a new device, it'll need service.

  • Home button on ipod touch 2g not working

I replaced the digitizer on it and now the home button is unresponsive. All of the connections appear to be good

    Did you try the alcohol?
    iFIxit says:
Note the small gold "square" above the dock connector. It's actually a conducting spring that rests against the home button. The button acts as a switch, connecting the spring to ground (the dock connector) when it's pressed.
Does that look right on yours?
