My home page always reverts to a city in which I do not live,

I live in Oregon and whenever my msn home page loads, it shows Vancouver, WA and will not change permanently. Very annoying.

Websites identify your location by the IP address you are using. Your Internet Service Provider gave you an IP address that is listed as being in Vancouver, WA, so websites think that's where you live. That page offers an option for you to correct that location to your real address, you use it and it saves that info in a Cookie so it knows your correct location for future visits to that website - but you delete that cookie.
If you would save that particular cookie, that website wouldn't forget your location once you correct it.

  • Home Page setting option is not working. Home Page always reverts back to Modzilla Firefox Start Page.

Home Page setting option is not working after saving a new or different home page on Firefox 19.0. When opening a new page (not tab) it always reverts back to the default "Modzilla Firefox Start Page" no matter what.

That was it! There was a duplicate preference file in the profile folder. Followed the instructions under "Locked Preferences File" to
    6. Delete any prefs-n.js files where n is a number (e.g. prefs-2.js).
Once I deleted it I was able to then save my preferred home page.
    Thanks!!

  • Why do the options for a new Home page always appear first when I sign in when I already have a Home page?

The screen page for creating a new Firefox Home page always shows up first when I sign on.....but, I already have a Home page and have to click again to get there.
How can I get Firefox to go directly to my actual Home page?

    Hello Kathie,
Sorry for the inconvenience that has caused to you.
Please let me know if you have tried converting any other PDF to word with Reader.
Alos, please sign up at "https://cloud.acrobat.com/" using your Adobe ID credentials. Click on 'ExportPDF' tab and upload the PDF that you want to convert to Word.
Let me know if this converts fine.
    Hope to hear from you.

  • Home page keeps reverting ...

In the site I am working on the home page keeps reverting back to an older version when I close and open iweb. I have built this page 3 times now and would really appreciate any help I can get with this. The thumbnail for the domain file shows the new page but it is not there when I open iweb.
I have even published the new page to a folder and it is fine and works OK - when I close and re open iweb however it is gone and a much older version of that page in its place.
HELP - what is going on? I would really appreciate any help I can get with this ...

    Try the following:
    1 - close iWeb.
2 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
3 - go to your User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
    4 - reboot.
5 - launch iWeb and see if there's any improvement.

When I want to return to my home page after looking at a website I click on the home icon and it resets the page to my home page but also open a blak tab which i don't want. How can I stop this as I have too many tabs open and have to close all of them.

You may have an unwanted extension that is modifying sites (or the toolbar area). Try this:
Disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    Does that flush the tab?
Please report back on anything suspicious you find so others can learn about its bad behavior.

  • The Firefox about:home page always shows "Restore Previous Session" and opens random things even after a clean exit.

I don't like anything opening automatically when I start Firefox, so before Firefox 4 I set Firefox to open a blank page when it starts. I still had set a page I visit frequently as my home page, so I could get to that page quickly by pressing the home button. If I needed to close Firefox it was nice and easy to have the option to save my session and close (I've already searched and read another post and answer on how to restore this feature in about:config). I understand that Firefox 4 always saves your session and you can restore it from the history menu, but then I would have to remember if I had anything open and click menu/History/Restore Previous Session.
Now in Firefox 4 I have left the home page set to about:home so if I had tabs open when I closed it I would see the Restore Previous Session "button" the next time I start it. However, when I close all windows and tabs before exiting Firefox, the Restore Previous Session "button" will be sometimes be there. If I click it, it will open a random tab or window that I visited the previous day, which was NOT the last tab/window that I had open.
If I do have tabs open when I close it, it does correctly re-open them when using the Restore Previous Session button, it only does this if I do a clean exit (close all tabs/windows before close).
I tried deleting the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files from my Firefox appdata directory (there were no other sessionstore.* files). This is a clean install of Firefox 4, I didn't install on top of Firefox 3.6.xx. I uninstalled Firefox 3.6.xx before installing and made sure to delete any leftover files in my appdata, programdata and program files directories.

I thought about that before and tried it, and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I did it just now, I opened a blank tab and closed everything else, waited a minute then closed Firefox. I waited another minute and launched Firefox. The Restore Previous Session box was there on about:home. I clicked it and it opened a new window with about:home in it.

  • Home page keeps reverting to MSN despite my resetting it

The past few times Firefox has closed and restarted (sometimes on its own), the home page comes up as MSN instead of my usual home page. I go into the Tools/General and reset it to my desired homepage and it works for that session, but next time Firefox restarts it reverts back to MSN again. I almost never visit MSN, and haven't recently. I don't recall ever asking for MSN to be my home page, and it hasn't done this until just recently.

    Hi chodgkin,
You should take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[How to set the home page]]. Your homepage might have been changed by a particular site. Sites like MSN, Yahoo, etc have been know to ask to become your homepage.
There are steps in that article to reset your homepage preferences to default. I would try that first to clear out any strangeness. If that works, you can try setting your homepage again to your personal preference.
If that doesn't work you should look at the article [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved Preferences not saved].
    Hopefully this helps!

I installed jzip from Cnet. I have since uninstalled using the standard Windows uninstall program. I am using Windows Vista on a Sony Vaio laptop. Both Firefox and Explorer startup with jzip search as Home Page despite attempts to reset the Home Page.

  • When I initially open Firefox it opens 2 tabs. One is my home page and the other is another bookmark but I do not know why it is happening or how to stop it.

When I open Firefox 2 tabs always open. One is my homepage and the other is another page that I have bookmarked. I do not know why this happens or how to fix it.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == first installed

Do you have both those pages set as your Homepages?

  • Every time I click on my home page it opens two tabs one of which is the mozilla atart page. I would like it to stop.

I believe that the question is self descriptive. I open a new tab and it opens. I click on my home page which is Google. The browser then opens a second tab and in the second tab that it opens is the Mozilla start page. if I do this several times during the day I end up with several tabs open to the Mozilla start page and it is irritating.
    Thank you for your help.

Firefox can have multiple home pages, check your list of home pages to ensure that the 2 sites are not listed. See [[how to set the home page]] for details.

  • When I change my Internet (proxy) and home page settings and then close and reopen Firefox, they are not saved. Why is this happening?

I am going under Tools and Options, then Advanced -> Network -> Settings and changing the automatic configuration script for my work network. When I hit OK everything works. But when I close out Firefox, and then reopen it at a later time, it does not save the setting change I made and I have to do it all over again. This is also happening when I change my home page information as well...

  • Setting the home page if you are blind using a screen reader, impossible, not accessible!

I am a blind user, yes my screen is off, using Window Eyes v7.2 screen reader by "www.gwmicro.com" who recomend Firefox. I cannot set my home page because it is NOT accessible via a $1200 screen reader because Firefox chooses to EXCLUDE visually impaired users. And furthermore, tries to exclude visually impaired users from even registering because they ONLY take Visual confirmation, extremely obnoxious and descriminatory!

The folks at NotebookCheck do the kind of benchmarks you reference. You can see their results at:
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-W550s-Workstation-Review.137989.0.html
The tests I ran were just to help me decide which laptop to use since I now have both.
I do use ATTO as well as CrystalDiskMark for disk/SSD read and write testing. Of course both go off the map when you enable RAPID in the Lenovo with the Samsung 850 Pro installed. RAPID does actually speed up work processing...not just wow the I/O test software.
I was getting about 550/450 MB/s read/write with both laptops before I enabled RAPID. With RAPID I get 3345 read and 1833 write with the Lenovo.
Too bad RAPID does not work with all Samsung SSD storage devices.

  • Home page always opens to bank of america website since my last update of firefox.

since my update of firefox 1 day ago, whenever I open a new page it always opens to the bankofamerica.com website. I am not a customer of theirs and have no intrest in using there site as my homepage. I have tried the old method as well as the new drag and drop method to change the homepage but it will not work.

I had this problem, too. Setting your homepage to "blank" won't do it, because none of your account settings will save when you close your browser. You will need to COMPLETELY uninstall Firefox and reinstall a whole new copy. Save your bookmarks in a word doc so you can get them back later.
I know it's a pain, and maybe someone will eventually figure out a better fix, but this works.

  • I update to latest version but browswer home page always tells me i am not on the latest version

this has happened several times when i have downloaded he latest version - currently the one released 21 dec 2011 i downloaded did the same - everything goes fine with the download and the older version it says is replaed - i am on a mac but that shouldn't matter i guess - what do you think

This - http://www.google.com/firefox - is the old Firefox Start Page used by the Firefox 3.6 and earlier versions of Firefox, I don't think it is being maintained by Google.
Starting with the Firefox 4 version, Firefox is using a "local" Start Page with the address of '''about:home'''. It looks similar to the old Start Page, but it isn't exactly the same.
