My home page tab has vanished

Not only has my home tab vanished but so has my search bar and I can not " go back " my back arrow is gone as well. I use Firefox for my college work and need these features!

It's possible to hide the entire Navigation Toolbar, and of course to customize it. It's also possible for the toolbar data file to become corrupted. So let's check those things.
(1) Make sure you are not in full screen mode or a restricted pop-up.
* The F11 key switches between normal and full screen. Or, if you are in full screen mode, when you right-click at the very top of the screen, a small menu appears to exit full screen mode.
* Some pop-up windows lack normal toolbars. Use Ctrl+n to open a normal window. You can then navigate that window to the same page using the History menu, or copying and pasting the URL from one window to the other.
(2) To display a toolbar, try one of these:
* right-click a blank area of the tab bar > ''check'' Navigation Toolbar
* orange Firefox button > Options triangle > ''check'' Navigation Toolbar
* View menu > Toolbars > ''check'' Navigation Toolbar
(3) If controls are missing, you can try to restore them using Customize. The Customize command is on the same menus noted above. You might find the controls on a different toolbar or in the dialog which stores unused controls.
(4) If toolbars are very messed up or your changes are not saved between sessions, you can rename the toolbar data file to return to the default and customize from scratch.
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Switch back to Firefox and Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename '''localstore.rdf''' to something like localstore.old
Restart Firefox. Hopefully now all will be back to normal.

If it's on the Windows Taskbar or desktop, does a right-click reveal any useful information? If you open Properties > Shortcut it usually will indicate the program's folder.

Despite home page set as default,prefs file being deleted. (twice) it still opens in welcome window, alongside is my home page tab,add on checking doesnt finish .

everytime I open firefox. checking for add ons flashes up and disappears then welcome page opens, my home page tab is alongside it. I have uninstalled firefox. deleted the prefs file. instructed my privacy programme to ignore firefox all to no avail. I know I can edit user.js but not sure how. I can open it in notepad as instructed in help files but have no idea what to do next and what to edit.

Do you have a file user.js in the Firefox Profile Folder?

Such a file isn't there by default, so if it is there then either you or other software or a Firefox extension has created it.

Home page tabs load incorrectly

I have set certain tabs to open as my home page. When opening, however, Firefox/Aurora/Nightly (all newest v.) load incorrectly a set of old removed home page tabs. I have rebooted the computer and cleaned it with several programs (e.g. Advanced System Care, CCleaner) with no help. Tools --> Options --> Home Page shows the right combination, however. Anything to do?

You can check if you have an user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once pref to true.

Note that your System Details List shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize some prefs on each start of Firefox.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created it, so normally it wouldn't be there.
you can check its content with a plain text editor if you didn't create this file yourself.
The user.js file is read each time you start Firefox and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.

Unable to close home page tab or unable to close firefox by closing home page tab (when if that is the only last tab remaining in the browser

Recently I noticed that I could not close my browser by closing the last tab, which is nothing but home page tab. also noticed that when I open my browser and after opening many other tab if I want to close home page tab I could not close. If I closed it then I cant navigate or surf from that tab.
This may be due to some add-on causing trouble.
The problem does not arise in safe mode. Also if I group tab after closing, it is counted as tab but I cant open that particular tab.

Why does my home page tab no longer have the new tab cross in firefox 5

I have just updated firefox from 4.6 to 5.o, but when I load it the new tab cross on my home page tab is missing. I can put one in by Ctrl/T, but would prefer to use the cross.

If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key, that should make the menu bar appear.

Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
* If items are missing then open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"
* If a missing item is in the toolbar palette then drag it back from the Customize window on the toolbar
* If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the <u>"Restore Default Set"</u> button to restore the default toolbar set up.

On home page there is a Tab called Count and I want to show the count on the right corner of this tab button.

Create an application item. APP_HOME_COUNT.
Create an application process:
make the application process type "on new instance" if you only want this to run once
make it "on load before header" if you want to have the value set every page load
application process source:
select count(*) into APP_HOME_COUNT from <your table>
modify the tab name to reference the app item, maybe something like "Count(&APP_HOME_COUNT.)"
result should look like this "Count(5)"

"Use Current Page" to save home pages/tabs is greyed out, even though I have a fresh install of ver. 22 with no added plugins or extensions. How can I fix?

When I try to save my home pages / tabs, I can't, because this option is greyed out. I even uninstalled FF with Revo Uninstaller completely, reinstalled with no new plugins or extensions, and it remains greyed out. The only thing that I can do, is pin the tabs, but I wish to be able to use this option. If I can't, I won't know if its Firefox, or malware or? Thank you in advance for any help. Windows 7 Premium SP1, Firefox ver. 22

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information.

To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

This is indeed a sign of the code not being threadsafe.
There is only one fact that you need to keep in mind: there will only one instance of a servlet class be created in the beginning of application's lifetime and it will be shared among all requests and sessions in the application's life. Knowing that fact, it should indeed be obvious enough that an instance variable will be shared among all requests/sessions as well. Solving this problem is also obvious enough: declare request and session scoped data threadlocal (inside the method block).

Every time I open Firefox it tries to install the same updates (that I don't want) and the Firefox 3.6 "Choose Your Persona" etc. tab opens along with my home page tab. It takes a really long time to get onto Firefox because of these problems.

Well, this worked on my desktop! But my problem is on my laptop. :-) I'm running XP, but there was no "Username" under Documents and Settings under the C drive. I did a search for those file names and it wasn't there. I found Mozilla Firefox folder under: C\Documents and Settings\ All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Mozilla Firefox. There are 2 - 1 is Mozilla Firefox (shortcut) and the other is Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode). I did a Mozilla Firefox search and this is all that showed up.
When I click on the shortcut link (the 1st one), it opens up 2 screens of Firefox. One is the "this is embarrassing" screen. The other is "Choose your Persona" screen. I closed it and reopened and it took me to my home page.

Have you tried resetting your home page from Options > General? Which plugin is that? I have not seen a plugin update open a new tab.

I keep loosing my home page tabs after a while after restarting FireFox. They have been saved in options.

All tabs have been set in options as home page, but at least once a day the home page tabs are removed and it goes back to default.

I have several home page tabs open. How do I close them without closing other tabs?

When I open my home page and go to other web sites, I can close the tabs for those sites but cannot close my home page tab when I finish. How do I close a home page tab while keeping other tabs open?

Have you tried ctrl alt del and force closing Firefox?
