My home sharing is not staying connected
I've connected my apple tv and it connects to my itunes using home sharing. Everytime the computer shuts down or the apple tv sleeps...the home sharing does not reconnect when I reboot the system. I have done all the trouble shooting steps and it does work if I unplug and reboot the router, but I don't want to do this everytime. How can I keep connected without turning the whole system and router off.

My home sharing is not working - connection is dropping out from iMac to iOS devices
I have a 2011 iMac running Mountain Lion, and am having real problems accessing my itunes library with my iOS devices (I had the same problem with Apple TV before I bought a set of power line adapters and now running an Ethernet into it). I keep my iMac on all the time, but every day I have to quit then reopen iTunes for any chance of accessing my content on my iPhone or iPad. Otherwise Even when the 'sharing' icon is there on my devices (which it always is) it just hangs when I press it. I have had this problem for over a year, but have only just starting wanting to access my library from iPad. I am using AirPort Extreme as a base station.
Any ideas?Powerline adapters use your home powerlines (mains a/c) to connect your devices via ethernet to your modem, they're easy to set up and the they TOTALLY fixed my ATV problem, the problem seems to be with the wireless. I've been trawling through apple discussions, and did found a workaround to my problem https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4222883?start=0&tstart=0
but its just a workaround :/ -
I have two computers. One that is running windows XP and the new one that is Windows 8. I have tried several times to import my music Library from the old computer. I have installed and uninstalled Itunes. The Apple's help desk had me to re-install. they sent me an email to import my music. The Home sharing will not stay on after I hit done. what can I do.
A broken logic may also prevent the firewire startup to work; do you actually see a firewire icon moving on the old MBP? If not, then you logicboard is probably unable to startup in firewire mode.
Your only other option will be to get your harddrive out to place it in an USB enclosure in order for your new laptop to mount your previous drive.
If you have some technical expertise, you may find instruction in how to do this here: http://www.ifixit.com/. But you could also find a technician to do this part. -
I have follow all the settings for the home sharing but when I turn on the TV & go to computer then movies it still saying that the home sharing is not connected.

TS2972 home sharing when not connected to internet
my old computer will not connect to the internet and it has all my songs on it. can i still do home sharing?
I do not believe you can based on Apple Technical Support article TS2972.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972
In Section 4 under the Resolution, it states:
Home Sharing requires a home network with an active Internet connection. All the devices you want to use with Home Sharing need to be connected to your home network. -

Will not stay connected to my home wi-fi
My iPhone will not stay connected to my Airport Express. My iMac and PB have no problem. Where I live I do not get any other wi-fi signals.
In the morning my phone connects...I check my mail and check a few web sites. No problem for about 5 minutes or so then I loose the connection and it switches to AT&T's Edge service. The phone will re-connect when I go to setting>wi-fi But it only stays connected for 30 seconds or so. It will say "unable to connect" and I do renew the lease.
This has been happening for about 3 weeks now.Have you tried deleting the saved wireless network settings for this network from your iPhone followed by reconnecting to the network?
If not, on your iPhone go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
Select the right facing arrow in a blue circle icon to the right of the name of the network.
At the top, select Forget this Network.
This will delete the network and network settings from your iPhone.
Follow this by selecting and reconnecting to the network. -
I notice that my new IPad (3rd generation) will not stay connected to the power cord at all, I'm not exagerating, if I plug it in and browse the Internet without fail it will become unplugged and I will have to push the plug back in (Ba-beep). Ive actually grown to despise that sound when you plug your iPhone or iPad in because it reminds me of how much money I spent on something that PHYSICALLY will not charge while I'm using it.
I know the problem with it holding a charge while in use, I get it, the screen is amazing and it takes a lot to run the display, however, it is unacceptable to me that I can't even keep the thing plugged in while I'm using it. I can not even leave it on my Cal King bed overnight because I will wake up in the morning to find that the plug has been jiggled loose in a corner, so it's still attached but not making a connection thus not being charged.
I love the 4GLTE from Verizon and I love the iPad, but I'm actually using my 1st generation IPad while I am at home so I can leave my new $900 iPad on a table to charge free of incident so I can use the 4G while I'm away from wifi during the day. I have been getting more upset about this because I can not even use the Griffin extended cord to charge the iPad and be far from the plug because only the original apple sync/charge cord will have a better shot at staying in. Absolutely none of my non apple cables will stay in the iPad 3 while having it in my hands.
The plug is at an angle, unlike the first iPad, not sure about the iPad 2. Please let me know if they have same issue.
If anyone else is having this problem with the Gen 3 iPad please let me know because I'm tempted to do something about it with apple and I'm hoping that I just for some reason have a bad cable receiver or something and maybe I can get a replacement and enjoy the iPad as I had expected to. There is no reason why I should be even using my first iPad and I have friends that want to buy it but I am not selling it because I'm unable to sell it because I can't handle the new iPad while it's plugged in, that is ridiculous if it's a common issue so please let me know! Thanks for the swift reply, I have been looking online and a loose plug seems to be somewhat of an issue with many, I hope mine is actually a problem and not what others are experiencing. It's taken me this long to even reach out for the simple fact I HATE being a complainer but this is just horrible.
Do you have an iPad 3 as well? And is yours not experiencing any issues close to mine?
Thanks again! -
Home sharing does not work with new mountain lion update.
home sharing does not work with new mountain lion update. Does anyone else have the same issue. Updated all computers in my home, deauthorized and reauthorized each computer. turn off home sharing and turned it back on. don't know what else to do..please help...
Our Apple TVs continue to lose connection ever since installing Mountain Lion on the host computer. The only thing that fixes them is to quit and relaunch iTunes, which only works unti the ATV goes to sleep. If a movie is paused for more than a few minutes and the ATV goes to sleep, pressing play again on the remote is greeted with "There are no movies on this computer" or "Turn on Home Sharing."
If we stop a video on one ATV and attempt to resume it in another room, the error begins again. The other ATV can't connect until iTunes is relaunched.
My guess is that it has something to do with the new [annoying] security settings. But I still haven't found a fix other than restarting iTunes everytime we want to watch something from our downloads. Fail. -
ITunes Home sharing is not being received on my
Current home network MBP, MBA and a Windows PC. All are using the same iTunes account. All are on the same local network. All have home sharing turned on and all can view all media stored on the other machines.
I also have two televisions both with apple TVs. However, the main media server the MBP, of recent times has had two problems. Firstly, when serving media to the apple TV it will not allow video media purchased thorugh the iTunes store to be played on the Apple TV noting home sharing is not turned on. However the same media can be played on the other computers using home sharing.
More recently, the MBP will be identified as an available computer on the apple TV however, when connection is attempted it fails. However if I use Airplay, I can stream from the MBP to the Apple TV. The other two computers can serve media to the apple TV's without an problem.
I have rebooted and reloaded software on the Apple TV.
I have deleted and reinstalled iTunes on the MBP.
I am at a loss what to look for now.
Any ideas.when serving media to the apple TV it will not allow video media purchased thorugh the iTunes store to be played on the Apple TV
Meaning what? What happens when you try to play it? Did you activate ATV with your iTunes account? -

My sister and I both have Macbook Pros that will not stay connected to our internet (wifi). Our dell computers and HP computers in the household work great- but both of the Macs do not stay connected, and often say "you are not connected to the internet". I have saved our wifi name to the computer so it is registered as our home network- but it still will not work fast or stay connected for long periods of time. Is there a setting I need to change, or anything I can do? Very disappointed with how the Mac works with our wifi.
Mac's will have trouble connecting to WEP Encrpyted and/or "hidden" / "invisible " networks.
OpenWEP (insecure) or WPA2(AES) is the only secure standard.
..WiFi, Internet problems, possible solutions
WiFi security issues, at home and WiFi hotspots
Also make sure the date and time are current and updating to Apple's servers for your location in System Preferneces > Date and Time. Then reboot and reconnect.
If your still having trouble after this, take both machines back to the store for a free evaluation. -
Home sharing is not working on either of 2 computers.
I have uploaded the new iTunes on both computers. Both running Windows 7. Both on same network. Logged in to home sharing with same id. Turned off both computers, etc. I have read all the previous postings, so I do not need the link to setting up home sharing......I did everything there.
Seems like this is a pretty big problem based on the questions here. Maybe a bug?
Please help. We have multiple apple products (like 12+) in our house as well as the PCs --- this should be simple!forgot to say i made sure that it is on on itunes in the perfence and i pad 2 is on it shows shared but when you try to connect to it it saids that home sharing can not be turn on

Cannot get home sharing to work with my new apple TV. Have the latest version of ITunes and the apple TV is connected to my wi-fi network. The instruction page says to go to the Advanced menu option of ITunes and choose Home Sharing. This option does not exist. The closest I can find is under the File option>Home Sharing where my only option is to turn off home sharing. There is no home sharing icon and Apple TV insist that the home sharing is not turned on.

I have just updated the software on my Apple TV since then home sharing will not work though I had not used it since installing iOS6 on my iPad 3. Home sharing is shown to be on on the Apple TV and on on my iMac. The Apple TV is connected to the router with an ethernet cable and all functions work correctly apart from my computer.
I have done the following.
Switched off the Apple TV and rebooted, did the same with iMac
Turned off home sharing then turned it on.
Checked that home sharing is on on both devices.
Selected Computer
Get a message telling me to turn home sharing on - IT IS!
Tried using airplay mirroring on the iPad but the airplay function is missing from iPad.
It is so annoying since before iOS6 and updating the Apple TV software everything worked perfectly. Any help would be very gratefully received.
ThanksHi Everyone,
hope this message finds you all in time. The recent Apple TV update 5.1 is terrible. Apple knows it is which is why (thankfully for some relentless user -I have no idea who but I believe it was under threat) they have allowed to sign 5.0.2 again which means you can downgrade your Apple TV 2 and 3 to a 5.0.2 version via iTunes. Who knows how long they will keep the window open but I have downgraded my ATV early this morning. I couldn't post this earlier because I was out all day but I am doing it now.
Here's how to do it:
1) Connect your ATV to your computer via a Mini USB (not included with ATV but included with many other electronic devices) - in order for your ATV to appear in iTunes you must FIRST plug the USB cable to your computer and ATV and only THEN plug the power cable.
2) Download your ipsw restore file from Apple.
5.0.2 (ATV 2): AppleTV2,1_5.0.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw
5.0.2 (ATV 3): AppleTV3,1_5.0.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw
3) In iTunes select yout ATV, hold SHIFT and click on Restore
4) Find and choose the downloaded IPSW file in the Open Dialog Box and hit Next
5) As long as Apple still signs that version the Restore process will begin and will take a few minutes to complete.
Enjoy!
