My homepage reverts to the apple store every time I restart my macbook

Every time I start my MacBook it reverts to the Apple Store as the home page. I can keep my chosen homepage so long as I don't switch off my computer.

What is happening is your new homepage isn't being stored in the Safari Preferences file on the boot drive
However it is being stored in memory (RAM) thus as long as you keep the computer on and the contents of RAM are there as long as the power is on, your homepage remains.
So to solve this problem require you to delete the hidden
com.apple.safari.plist
file in a hidden Users/Library folder and then quiting and restarting Safari. The .plist file will be recreated void of preferences and corruption and you enter your new preference choices.

I have had it in to the Apple store several times for this and they can't find anything wrong other than it is locked up for a while. Since it is happening more and more, I am worried that at some point this will be permanent.

Has it actually happened at the store?
If not then we need to get it to do that. Now it may be completely random but you need to try and make a note of as many things as possible that happen when it does it.
How long has it been on for, what are you doing at the time, what's connected. If it's reproducible then you've at least got somewhere.

On all my computers upgraded to 10.10, I get the Installation "thermometer" indicator every time I Restart or Start Up my computers. In Verbose mode, I see a bash command that is looking for the Installation image to finish its clean up. Does anyone else have this problem? Is the Installation indicator the new "normal" start up and restart screen for 10.10?

If you are referring to the progress indicator that appears every startup, that is normal. It has replaced the old spinning gear. There's nothing wrong.

Apple loads every time I restart the computer like it is installing an update-

after updating the OS to yosemite. I had the common Java Runtime Environment Problem "To view this web content, you need to install the Java Runtime Environment. Click "More info..."to visit the the website for the Java Runtime Environment" pop up ALL THE TIME-up then installed upgrade to 8.25
then had graphics problem then I did something stopped graphics problem then one of my apps needed java 6 installed java 6 but program still didn't work. Uninstalled program. now have the apple pop up like the computer is installing every time I restart the computer. it is not instant or near instant start up like it was before.

How to stop this list from reverting to the short version every time I click on an item?

Every time I make the list of topics longer, and then click on a topic to read it, then click back to the main list, I get sent back to the first (short) list of topics in the forum instead of the longer list I was looking at.
What am I doing wrong?

Are you clicking the "More" button to do this? Try using the "Discussions" tab instead, and click the "Set as default tab" option. I never use the overview tab.
.. and another thing: why can I no longer edit my own question, not even 10 seconds after I've posted it, if I momentarily go back to the main list and then return to my question?
Did you check the upper right corner? The first post of a thread is "special". You can't edit it or report it from the normal location. You can report the thread via the upper right link. I think you can edit from there too.

Cover Flow cache is gone every time I restart iTunes.

The title pretty much says it all. Ever since I began running iTunes on my new MacBook Pro (Spring 2009, 3.06 Ghz with 4GB of RAM) I was pretty disappointed with how slowly Cover Flow worked. I had been using iTunes on a PC for a while, but I figured that on brand new top-of-the-line Apple hardware, iTunes and Cover Flow would fly.
The problem is, every time I restart iTunes, it appears that any Cover Flow image cache is gone. It seems like it has to re-lookup and re-load every image in my library as I scroll. It is usually smart enough to predict where a long scroll if going to end and pre-load the images at my destination, but every cover that I "flow" over during the scroll appears as just the default musical note symbol. Plus, moving around is choppy as it loads every image. I have to manually scroll through the whole library in order to force it to load every single cover and therefore respond smoothly as I scroll through. This keeps working until I restart the app, and then I'm back to square one.

Thank you to all that gave advice, none of the suggestions worked I'm afraid........ but I did find a solution to the problem, by accident......... Doing a normal sync still does not work...... So what I have done is, limited each file to just 1000 photos, and have ended up with 32 files now........... I have ticked the boxes "Sync photo's from, selected files" and I sync with the first file ticked, then sync again with the second ticked, and so on, I know its long winded but they are now all on my ipod

How can I stop my MBA going into Time Machine every time I restart?

Every time I restart by MacBook Air, it starts Time Machine and I have to cancel out of it before I can start working.
My iMac and my wife's MacBook Pro (both also running Lion) do not do this.
Any suggestions on how to stop this happening?

Check that Time Machine isn't in your Login Items:
 > System Preferences > Users & Groups | Login Items
If it is, highlight it, then press the minus '-' at the bottom.

No, it won't revert to the prior OS X but you you may have third party apps installed that were compatible with Lion that may not be compatible with Mountain Lion.

If you are within 14 days of purchase you can still return the iPhone and get the phone that suits your needs, however, I think you will find that no matter which phone you get the content provider will want to know how you are going to pay for future purchases. For Android phones it is Google, and they will certainly want to know.

Resetting Macs to a fresh state every morning -- like the Apple Store

Just curious if anyone knew (or wants to guess) on how the Apple Store keeps all their demo Macs clean and fresh every day. I'd imagine at the end of the day, there's some sort of automated rewind or system refresh that sets everything back to a square one state.
Netboot is certainly one answer. Is Netboot particularly network intensive? Our IT guy thinks Netboot will put a constant strain on the network all day (I'd like to convince him otherwise if it doesn't). However, I'm not sure if the Apple Stores are using Netboot or not.
Is a server installing a fresh system image every night? Or how would a non-Netboot setup work?
I'd like to get a Mac lab to use one pristine master disk image (containing the system, 3rd party apps, plug-ins, prefs, fonts, user accounts, monitor settings, etc). At the end of every night, I'd like to reset all the Macs to square one.

How many machines would you be restoring at one time? We use netboot to image between 15-50 computers at a time with no noticeable network troubles.
Currently we use the Casper Imaging Suite to do this but before that we used ASR with a few third-party applications to streamline the process. Proton Pack Server is a great app for managing the multicast streams and Bombich's NetRestore, while no longer supported, to create netboot images and receive the ASR stream.
