My Hp A6750Y DVD player stalls in playback of DVD movies -

A6750Y HP DVD player stalls when playing video back. Sound is fine.  Have upgraded HP media smart, still problem.  Have tired to update drifver but have not been able to .  Current dVD driver is dated 2006.  Running Windows 7ii-64bit - upgraded from Vista - from reformat of drive to istall windows i7 -64 home premium
Have tried for 2 weeks to solve this  but no luck - -please help.

Hi,
What your seeing regarding the Driver for your CD/DVD Drive is normal.  The driver for these devices is supplied by Windows and there is no update.  Here's a screenshot of the driver tab from my Bluray drive - as you can see, it's dated the same as yours.

  • DVD Player & Quicktime erratic playback

My first edition Mac Mini's playback of DVDs and also video files with Quicktime & VLC Player has been incredibly erratic lately.
For example, DVDs being played with DVD player will suddenly rewind back to the start, skip to other chapters, forward when I try to pause, go back to the menu and highlight other items, all at random points of the disc.
I thought this was due to either the disc being scratched (I clean them regularly), or the optical drive being very dirty (I admit it needs a good clean).
However, the same issue occured when playing Quicktime movie files in Quicktime. A video file would just rewind at random points, or "stutter".
This also occured in VLC Player.
The only way to avoid this occuring was to click on the menu bar, or with a wired PC mouse to "right click" and leave it.
    Why would this be occuring?
I recently updated the operating system to the latest version (cannot recall what it is, so I just entered iOS6- and will update later).
I also changed the batteries in the keyboard twice.
I do admit the keyboard could also do with a clean, but I don't believe the rewind function key and other keys are stuck.
Please help me with this. I have actually lost a lot of sleep over it. It's like it is possessed!

I have the same issue fairly regularly with DVDs when played back using the Apple DVD Player app.  The same DVDs work fine with VLC.
While rebooting helps, it doesn't actually fix anything.  The same goes for resetting PRAM and other stuff.  The problem persists, albeit intermittently.  I've rebooted and have had a DVD exhibit the same exact problems right away.  And then I try VLC and it runs fine.
There are three variables that I can point to...
Apple DVD Player application... as noted above, the issue does not occur at all with VLC
Memory... it's possible that the Apple DVD Player app hits on a bad stretch of memory, it causes this kind of problem.  Still this points to the application as the issue does not occur in other playback apps.
Video Card...  on my macbook pro it's the NVIDIA 320M.  Again, the playback is fine in other playback apps, so this still points back to the Apple DVD Player app, but it's possible that it has issues with the video card
That's all I can think of off the top of my head.  I hope Apple will fix the problem, and I'm OK with using VLC until it gets fixed, but there is at least one feature of Apple's DVD Player app that I love...  it remembers exactly where I was at even if I take the DVD out to play something else.  VLC Player does not appear to have that functionality (at least not that I've found thus far).

  • DVD Player freezes video playback, but audio continues

Whenever I insert a DVD into my Macbook Pro, DVD Player starts playing the DVD's audio, but the video playback will only run if I have my mouse positioned at the bottom of the screen. If the mouse is moved anywhere toward the middle of the video, it freezes on the image while audio playback continues. This has happened with multiple DVDs and all run fine on any other player (VLC, etc).

  • Does DVD player support PAL and foreign dvd's?

I am debating on whether or not to purchase a Dvd on ebay because it is in PAL format and I don't know what that means. Will my regular U.S. dvd player be able to play the movie? And will the dvd player application on this computer (i have dvd player version 4.0)?
    Thank You

    Thanks David,
So, England uses PAL too. Now I know. Where is England anyway? Isn't that an American colony? Or is it an island just north of Australia? - Just playing with ya David We won't talk about the cricket either!
    Steven,
You have five chances of changing the region settings on your Mac drive. After that it is locked at that region setting forever. As I said before, America uses NTSC, so your locally bought DVDs will not play on that player unless it supports NTSC playback. If it is region free then there is no issue with regions, but it must have NTSC playback or it is useless in the states.

  • DVD Player won't play some DVDs

My DVD Player won't play certain DVDs. Presumably all commercial DVDs should be playable in the software. Fox discs are a problem. I can get Player to turn on, but after the menu, the screen flashes a reading error, from which it could not recover. Yesterday I tried to play a Paramount disc, and nothing happened. The computer didn't even acknowledge that there was a disc in the tray. A Wolfe Video wouldn't read at first (I got a dialogue box that the disc was blank) but I put it in again and that time it played.
Also, on a side note, I would like future editions of DVD Player to add the feature of allowing the viewer the ability to go backwards a frame at a time, as well as forwards.

    Hi, Doug.
This is starting to sound like a different problem. Your original report seemed to apply only to specific DVDs. Now it's with all DVDs. Before we get into how to reinstall DVD player, let's try a few other things that are more likely troublemakers with DVD Player.
    1. As a general check, run the procedure specified in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified.
    2. Reset DVD Player. Peform all of the following steps before attempting to launch DVD Player again:2.1. Trash the com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist file in your Home > Library > Preferences folder. This file is the preferences file for DVD Player.
2.2. Using Get Info, make sure you are the Owner and have Access of Read & Write on the following folders on your account:• Home > Library > Application Support.
    • Home > Library > Application Support > DVD Player.
    • Home > Library > Application Support > DVD Player > Settings. If not, correct the permissions accordingly using the Owner and Access pop-up menus in the Details sub-panel of the Ownership & Permissions panel of the folders' Get Info windows.
2.3. Trash the contents of your Home > Library > Application Support > DVD Player > Settings folder.3. If none of the above sorts it out, let's see what Console can tell us: After the problem occurs, make note of the time, then immediately check the ends of these Console logs for clues that may have been logged when the problem occurred.
    4. Note that none of the above rules out the possibility that your optical drive has become defective.4.1. Can you burn DVDs, e.g. even data DVDs from Finder?
4.2. See if the freeware VLC Media Player (nee VideoLan Client) can play the DVDs.Good luck!

    what can i do?

Yeah, that's not good. You could try resetting the SMC, sometimes it helps. Other than that you have two choices replace the drive, either yourself or by someone, or just buy an external drive. Considering that your Mac is 5 years old I'd go the external route. To reset the SMC
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • DVD Player has started playing PAL DVD's on external PAL display very badly

I have my Early 2006 iMac connected to an external HDTV (Mini-DVI->HDMI)
Using display options I can switch the external display easily between NTSC and PAL refresh rates.
It used to be that apple's DVD player could play a PAL dvd just fine on the display but now the frame rate drifts in and out of sync as though it no longer understands that the TV is set to 50hz.
Although I used to use DVD player all the time I haven't done so for quite some months so I don't know when this started happening although I have a feeling that it was with a recent OS X update.
I say this because a few months ago all of a sudden the same thing happened with Elgato's EyeTV, but they issued a patch sometime later and it fixed the v-sync issue for their app.
I'm also wondering if it may be a de-interlacing issue rather than a v-sync issue but I'm not sure, I've tried various DVD's.
I have tried deleting ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.DVDPlayer but this hasn't helped.
If it's relevant, my iMac has an ATI Radeon X1600
Any ideas why DVD player has started having trouble with 50hz displays and how I might fix it?
Failing that, is there a good (hopefully free) dvd player alternative which is better at handing external displays of varying display modes?
p.s this was the most appropriate forum I could find.

I suggest that you create 15-second silent audio slug that you can use to move the audio the same amount you have moved the video.

  • What DVD player to buy to play DVDs recorded from computer (AVI files)?

Only DVD player I have that will play AVI files from DVDs recorded off the computer is my portable/car DVD player.  Is there a DVD player I can purchase to play these DVDs without using the portable DVD player?

    Look for something DivX certified.

No need to worry about the disk version. You would just have to install an update anyway as soon as it was installed. Download from the link provided below and use the serial number you have to activate.

I haven't changed any settings regarding region codes

You may have run discs from different regions, these would be commercial DVDs. If so most DVD players need to be told what region the disc is from. Have you done this by chance, if you are not sure look at the region numbers listed on the commerical DVDs you have and see if some use different numbers.

  • Does Apple Dvd Player keep a list of dvds you played?

    Dear Friends,
Does Apple Dvd Player keep a list of dvds you played? If so,where is it?

Many (but not all) plist files in Application Support/DVD Player/Settings use the key "MediaName" to store the titles of DVDs that the application has played. (Some plist files in this folder have other purposes, so we'll leave those out of the equation.) Thus you could open every plist in Settings, check for the presence of the MediaName key, and then note the content. For example, using Property List Editor to open a plist that stores a DVD title, you'll see a line like:
    MediaName  String  TROY
    TextEdit will show something similar:
    <key>MediaName</key>
    <string>TROY</string>
But you'll probably want to see all the titles at once. Let me suggest a Terminal solution. Open Terminal, then navigate to the appropriate folder:
    cd /Users/username/Library/Application\ Support/DVD\ Player/Settings[RETURN]
    (Replace username with your username.)
    Then issue this command:
    awk '/MediaName/{c=2} c&&c--' *.plist[RETURN]
The result will look something like this:
              <key>MediaName</key>
              <string>ALEXANDER_NEVSKY</string>
              <key>MediaName</key>
              <string>TROY</string>
              <key>MediaName</key>
              <string>EXCALIBUR_16X9_FF_NA</string>

  • HP G71 Notebook pc, DVD player stopped on only one DVD

I was previewing a 60 min. DVD (made 2007) to watch in full later. DVD playing well.   I wanted to skip ahead.  I either paused or stopped the video,  Went to DVD Menu and chose either "main menu" or "root title menu".  No chapters titles or any other info appeared.  Screen went gray.  Tried to just resume play; DVD would not.  Tried to start beginning again; would not do so.   Ejected and reinserted DVD; no change.  Inserted an altogether different video to see if it was the DVD or the DVD player issue, and the different DVD worked fine.  It's almost as if I've erased or damaged somehow the DVD that I had been watching successfully up until I tried to skip ahead.  I have often been able to preview DVD's via the main menu or root menu feature without a problem.  Computer is working fine, and DVD player in computer works fine except on the one DVD, on which nothing now appears.  Is there a simple fix for this?  Did I damage the DVD?  Thanks.

Hello @SU-ZQ, welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you were having an issue with 1 dvd not playing correctly. I will try to assist you with this.
    A few questions to start:
What's the operating system in the notebook?
What program do you use to watch DVD's with?
As you've tested and it works with another dvd, it is odd that the one just stopped. Unless you were in the subfolders of the dvd though you shouldn't have been able to delete the content, though accidents can happen.
I would test that specific dvd in another source (dvd player, ps3 etc.) to see if it still works at all. If it does, then try another player (VLC, Windows Media, etc.) something that you weren't using, there could be a conflict with that player.
The only thoughts I have to it just not playing, would be some sort of corruption, a codex issue, or accidental deletion of files.
Also, test with more then one to make sure everything else is working correctly (though I'm sure you have already).
Let me know how everything goes.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Burned DVD's play on Phillips DVD Player, but not on computer DVD player

    Hey Everyone,
I'm burning my reel in DVD STUDIO PRO 4 via MPEG-2 files exported from FCP to Compressor and then brought into DVD Studio Pro 4.
I select BUILD/FORMAT and go through the steps (insert blank DVD, etc.) and when the DVD is spit out of my macbook pro, it works perfectly fine on a DVD Player, but when I insert it back into my macbok, it spins for about 45 seconds and then spits itself right back out.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
NOTE: I have successfully burned other DVD's using TOAST so I don't think it's a hardware issue.
    thanks again.

  • Dvd plays fine in a dvd player but pixelated in Apple DVD player

    Hi,
Thanks in advance. I have a dvd that I built/formatted in DVDSP with the default settings in place.
It plays fine in a DVD player, but once I try playing it back with Apple DVD Player, there is one 5 minute video clip that is heavily pixelated to the point that the pixels are literally 100 times larger than a normal pixel, and these faint, broken "pixel fields" jump all over the place and the image looks incredibly "glitchy".
Why is this happening? Does Apple DVD Player play DVDs with a different pixel aspect ratio or setup? Is there a setting for playback in a computer DVD player that I need to set upon Build/Format?
    Thanks...

In DVD Player, hit Command-1 which will play your video at Actual Size. If you try to "fill the screen" it will become soft and fuzzy because you are pixel doubling (or worse).
SD video is very low res.
