My HP Compaq powers on only when force i plug in. Doesn't turn on with power button!

I have a HP Compaq 6710b.. Its Over 6 yrs old..
The Issue is really annoying.. The laptop powers on only when i force plug in the charger pin and the laptop works fine after that..
But the laptop never turns on when i try to power on by pushing the power button!!
I couldn't understand the reason why...
Any thoughts about this issue?  HELP!!
This question was solved.

There are no settings in the BIOS that affect the use of the power button.
The power button works at the hardware (firmware) level.
Pressing the button is  translated into action for the system board by logic conditions.  There must be voltage at specific points in the power circuit. If the voltages are not present, then the power button will not operate. This could be caused by a failed resistor, mlcc capacitor or a faulty solder joint, if the power button has been tested and shown to be working normally. Even lint could cause this to happen. This can troubleshot by visual inspection and use of a multimeter.
Hi all,
This may be a solution for others but unfortunately not me..
My whole Power Circuit has been replaced with brand new circuit by authorised service personal in my country (will not HP, but he is an authorised service dealer of HP)..  It was replaced/repaired a year ago and after that i hardly would have used the power button..  I also use the sleep mode and mouse to wake up.. (would have used power button not more than 20 times in one year. And especially during update shutdowns)..
So its better i will check with BIOS/CMOS setting and battery and get back soon..  Why i am mentioning this is because, for the past 8 months, when even i remove the battery and put back in and start up the lappy, the date goes back to 1980..  I guess this happens because of faulty/dead CMOS battery..  Because i had a similar problem with my Desktop too and when i replaced the CMOS battery, the date problem on my desktop vanished..  (Surprisingly, even some Digital cameras hav this issue too!!)..

  • When watching a streamed movie, Firefox works briefly, stops, buffers, and then prevents any further action on my Mac, which I must turn off with power button.

A streamed movie will run smoothly for maybe 5 minutes. Then it will begin to buffer. The multicolored icon turns and turns and nothing happens. I try to go back to browsing but cannot. I try to close netflix but cannot. I try to close Firefox but cannot. Everything is basically frozen and the only way I can turn off my Mac is to press the power button.

Have you tried anything on this page?

Try plugging the headphones in and gently wiggling them around for a few seconds. It may be that the sensor that tells the iPhone that headphones are plugged in has gotten stuck. If this doesn't work, they try a reset (hold down Sleep/Wake and Home all the way until the Apple logo appears on the screen).

Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

    Hello E_Motuliki
If you can, try and put your iPhone into recovery mode and then use iTunes to restore it to see if it resolves all the issues that you are seeing with the service as well as the powering off.

  • HT1414 cant hear my music on phone only when head phones plugged in also no ringer just vibrate so i miss all my calls

cant hear my music or ringer or any tones only when my earphones are plugged in no sound when i get a call miising a lot of phone calls

So you're saying that when your headphones are plugged in, you can not hear your music, ringer or any notification sounds. Is that what you meant to say.
If that is NOT what you meant, then check the position of the mute switch on the side of the phone.

  • Lenovo spkrs work only when external spkrs plugged in

Arch runs great on noobies Lenovo 3000 n100.
Streaming audio and system sounds work fine only when external spkrs are plugged into headphone socket.
Onboard  spkrs can be heard along with external spkrs together. I have tried every combination of Gnome-volume-control sliders and mutes to hear onboard spkrs by themselves but no luck. It's not a big deal as the laptop is always on my desk but I'm just curious if it can be fixed as I am not experienced enough yet.
    Thanks

  • How to wake from sleep only with power button

    Hi,
I still use this old PowerMac G4 (hopefully Apple builds a new MacPro soon!) and when not using it, it is  in sleep mode.
Unfortunately my cats like to touch the keyboard, thus waking up my Mac.
Is it possible to wake the mac only by pressing the power button?
    If so, how?
    regards
    kpgkpg

The USB bus is unique from other buses in that it always has power present to it.
Because of this, it can be used to sense activity at a keyboard or other input device to facilitate wake from sleep.
The power button also always has power present, with the main purpose of on and off being extended to options for sleep and wake. This is possible due to the use of a momentary contact switch, with fuction that can be interpreted (time held) for various purposes via software.
why the action on the USB bus has to be a keyboard inpput, but not a mouse click. strange.
Mouse click should also wake the machine if the mouse is USB. If Bluetooth, an option must be selected in the software, and then not all mice are equal.
If wireless, then, again, not all are equal. Some will wake a machine, others won't.

  • Iphone 4 has a black screen which will display the apple logo for approx 10 seconds, then goes blank for 10 seconds and so on.  I have tried a hard reset with power button and home button but no change.  Get no response when attempting to connect to itune

iphone 4 has a black scrren which will display the apple logo and appears to be at start up but then blacks out for approx 10 seconds and then displays apple logo again.  Same action over and over.
I have attempted hard reset but cannot complete.  Also attempted to connect with itunes and it does not recongize device.
Device is frozen in this display loop.  Have an appointment with genius bar tomorrow but it's a 2.5 hour round trip so suggestion appreciated.

Your device may need to be restored as new in iTunes (instead of restored from a back up as it seems that there is a software issue on your phone).
If your phone is not able to connect in iTunes try forcing recovery mode (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808)
    * power off your phone.
    * Hold the home button while connecting your phone to iTunes.  You should see the connect to iTunes window and your computer should give you the recover mode alert.
*Restore your device as new. Being sure not to restore from a previous back up.
You will then want to sync your information back to your device from Outlook, iCloud, Google or wherever your information is stored.

  • Powermac G4 : Wake up only with Power Button

My Mac used to wake up with just moving my Logitech USB Mouse until the fans went haywire. Now only by pressing the Power button, does the Powermac G4 wake up. Fans have been changed, Hardware test and Memory test have been run, still no change. Any suggestions how to restore the wake-up to previous state. Thanks.

whether using NVRAM or PRAM, the Powermac G4 reverts to Panther on restart. I am told this is normal.
That sounds like a dead or weak PRAM battery. "Normal" is that the computer remembers its startup volume settings. Are you unplugging the computer from wall power? What you see can be a symptom of having a dead PRAM battery combined with pulling the plug out of the wall every night. Turning off a power strip of backup power supply has the same effect.
There are a number of G4 variants and I've not yet seen a mention of which G4 variant you're working on. The later Mirrored Drive Door G4s do better with both drives set to cable select. The older variants retain the older "master/slave" relation for drives. Do "About the Mac..." then click on "More Info..." in the resulting window. Copy/paste the "Hardware Overview" info from the next screen into a post here, deleting your serial number. That screen for my G4, an MDD, looks like this:
    Hardware Overview:
    Machine Name: Power Mac G4
    Machine Model: PowerMac3,6
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (3.3)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1.25 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
    Memory: 1.75 GB
    Bus Speed: 167 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.4.8f2
    Serial Number: <deleted>
That might help us work througha n model-specific issues.
What kind of keyboard do you have the requires USB 2.0? Most are slow devices and more than hapy on a USB 1.1 port.

  • Songs won't authorize, but only when iPod is plugged in

I have no problem playing purchased music on my computer (Windows XP, latest iTunes software), but when I plug in my iPod, I get a “This computer is no longer authorized to play purchased items that are on the iPod” message with a “Would you like to authorize this computer?” When I say yes and enter my password, it says that “This computer is already authorized” but then promptly repeats the “This computer is no longer authorized…” message – basically, it’s caught in a loop. My iPod will not update, not even for playlists or music from CDs.
I have not changed my user account, I don’t plug in my iPod to any other computers, and I went ahead and uninstalled/rebooted/reinstalled iTunes several times, as well as tried the removed of the SC Info folder, deauthorized/reauthorized my computer (also many times).
Note that the loop only occurs when my iPod is trying to sync: it fails to sync because of the loop, but purchased music plays just fine on my PC (assuming that the iPod isn’t trying to sync).
    Any suggestions/solutions?

Thanks - that didn't solve it but pointed me in the right direction. Turns out way back in the day when Windows was reinstalled on my PC, the drive letters were all screwed up...so my iPod kept showing up as the C: drive. Once I changed that manually, everything worked just fine.

  • Fans stuck at full speed, only when charger is plugged in

I just had my logic board replaced under warranty, and I have a strange new symptom. Whenever my AC adapter is plugged in, the fans are screaming at 6,000 RPMs. The temp is only 97F. When I unplug the computer, the fans drop to 3,000 RPMs.
I already tried resetting SMC and PRAM... Any other suggestions?

Have you tried running the extended version of the Apple Hardware Test? It sounds as if there might be a thermal sensor problem, although I don't know why the fans would spin at maximum only under AC power.
In any event, the thing to do is to report the problem to whoever did the work. I suspect a thermal sensor may not have been properly located or may not be well seated on the logic board. It shouldn't take too long to determine what the problem is and fix it.
    Good luck!

  • CPU (HP-W.XP) freezes only when Ipod is plugged in through USB

I have read a good deal of posts that tackle the issue of the Itunes(V7) freeze, yet allowing the user to navigate around the rest of the screen.
I am having the full problem. The entire computer freezes the second I plug the Ipod in.
    This has happened with:
-Itunes already opened prior to insertion.
    -With Itunes closed.
The ipod (60g Video btw)does charge and information is not lost, but this of course negates the option to add podcasts and such, or use my laptop when it is inserted. In addition when the ipod is disconnected I am again able to navigate. This is spec an ipod issue as far as I am able to tell.
So, has anyone had this problem?
I will probably revert to an older version if I must.
    Suggestions?

I was really really hoping that your solution would
work. Thank you for the idea. But alas, no, it still
    has not corrected the problem.
Odd, but after leaving the iPod attached all night
(still using 7.0.2) none of the 21 gigs was copied to
the iPod except 1 episode of a podcast.
So it is still stuttering, and still "not responding"
with 7.0.0. Plus, even though I restored my iPod, it
did not ask or give me the opportunity to rename the
iPod after the restore. Should I try to reinstall
from the original cd? and then run iPod update from
the summary screen or try to find iPod updater
somewhere on the web? My 30g ipod is just ablut 1
year old and needed updating as soon as I bought it.
Any thoughts would be greatly appriciated before my
black iPod becomes an expensive hockey puck!
Have you tried removing your podcast subscriptions?
I was reading other posts that explained that "mad money" and otther various podcasts caused itunes/cpu to crash.
Rather than that, the process above is what provided my remedy.

  • Why does my iMac screen flicker only when using Safari? It doesn't happen with Firefox.

Yesterday, I had an issue with OS X, causing my screen to go black upon waking up my pc. Come to find out through the Apple Forum, that when the OS X was originally installed, it was not a complete install. Once I received the fix solution, completing the OS X install, (10.9.3) everything was back to normal, so it seemed.
Now, when using Safari, the whole page flickers and so forth, including the address bar. I never had problems with the screen prior to this. Also, it doe not occur when using Firefox.
Is there a fix for this? or an adjustment that can be made. This never happened prior to the OS X install, which was about 2 months ago.

    Troubleshoot Safari extensions ..
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
