recently bought a samsung NX30 camera which came with lightroom 5, after several hours of googling i got it setup properly with the correct camera raw to be able to access my raw images. I found my old laptop was very slow when processing the hundreds of images I usually take on a weekly basis.  I bought a new faster laptop but when I looked for the cd with the software and serial I could not find it in the Xmas clutter.  I downloaded a trial version of lightroom and got it working on my new laptop. Is there a way to access the serial number from my previously installed version and insert it into the trail version to make it work for me?
    Myron

    Mea culpa
While i registered all my cs2 thru 6 versions and my lightroom 2 thru 4 versions and recorded the serials and saved the adobe registration emails.  Since this came as a freebee with the camera i neglected this vital step.  I have the instslled version on my old laptop but want to install it on my new one.  Thanks to Jim Hess I got the serial so all is well in my world and I will register it with ADOBE

  • ITunes jammed and now my laptop is very slow

I recently bought a new laptop and a new IPod Photo 30GB. I installed ITunes. I immediatly started to import my cd collection. After two houres of work, my ITunes blocked and I needed to reboot the pc. Since then, my laptop is very slow on startup. What can I do?

Well how much hard disk space is left on your laptop?
If it's > 80% full, it will be slow.
You can try to defrag the hard drive and see if it helps.

  • MacBook Pro Kernel_Task over 300% ; laptop running very slow

My new (4 week old) MacBook Pro suddenly this weekend started running very slow with the fan running constantly. I found the "kernel_task" was running the CPU over 300%. I tried various methods mentioned in different threads but nothing worked. I eventually went all the way to wiping the disk and reinstalling the OS. This has NOT fixed the problem. I do not know where to go next. I am posting a copy of the EtreCheck report I ran, and I am looking for any help.
The next step is taking this thing back to the Apple store. I love my MacBook, but not when it is not lagging like something running Windows ME. I expected more out of this machine than this.

The kernel is using excessive processor cycles. Below are some possible causes for the condition.
    Throttling
When it gets high temperature readings from the hardware, or a low-voltage reading from the battery, the kernel may try to compensate by interrupting the processor(s) to slow them down and reduce power consumption. This condition can be due to
a buildup of dust on the logic board
    high ambient temperature
a worn-out or faulty battery in a portable
the malfunction of a cooling fan, a temperature sensor, a voltage sensor, or some other internal component
Note that if the problem is caused by a sensor, there may be no actual overheating or undervoltage.
If the computer is portable, test with and without the AC adapter connected. If kernel_task hogs the processor only on battery power, the fault is in the battery or the logic board. If it happens only on AC power, charging is causing the machine to heat up. That may be normal on some models. CPU usage should drop when charging is complete.
Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test, though not very reliable, is sometimes able to detect a fault. For more thorough hardware testing, make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
If nothing is wrong with the hardware, then whatever you can do to improve cooling may help.
    Installed software
User-installed software that includes a device driver or other kernel code may thrash the kernel. That category includes virtualization software, such as Parallels and VMware, as well as most commercial "anti-virus" products. Some system-monitoring applications, such as "iStat," can also contribute to the problem. You can test for this possibility by completely disabling or removing the software according to the developer's instructions, or starting in safe mode. Note, however, that disabling a system modification without removing it or testing in safe mode may not be as easy as you think.
    Corrupt NVRAM or SMC data
Sometimes the problem is cleared up by resetting the NVRAM or the SMC.
    External display
Connecting an external LCD display to some MacBook Pro models while the lid is open may cause this issue. If applicable, test by closing the lid or disconnecting the display. You might get better results with a newer LED display.

  • Weird graphic before login screen and laptop is VERY slow

    Hello,
So I have an Early-2011 MacBook Pro 17".  Lately (past 3 months) the computer has been slower (which is normal, it's getting older) but now it is just unbearably slow and for seemingly NO reason.  I have meters on the menu bar that say there is pleny of RAM left and the processor is running at 2%-6%.  I can't figure out for a single reason why this is happening, but it is EXTREMELY frustrating, since only 2.5 years ago I paid 3200$ for this computer.
Now there is a weird graphic that appears RIGHT before the login screen appears.  I have attached a photo.  I currently own an iPhone 5, iPad 4, iMac 20" (2008), MacBook Pro 17" (early 2011), and an iPod Touch 3rd Generation.   I have had problems with almost all the products, but yet have remained a die-hard Apple fan.  I'm beginning to question my affinity to Apple, because I could have purchased a 17" Windows computer for MUCH less and then just replaced it this year.  Instead I thought this piece of junk would last me 6 years.... This is hardly looking like it will be the case, as I can barely do anything on it as of now.
    It's an early-2011 MacBook Pro 17", with a 2.2GHz Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB of 1333MHz DDR3 RAM and a 750GB Western Digital Black hard drive running at 7200RPM.

    justinjsc,
I can’t explain the weird graphic, but I can offer something to try regarding the slowdown. Boot your MacBook Pro into Recovery mode by holding down a Command key and the R key as it starts up. Once the Mac OS X Utilities menu appears, select Disk Utility. On the left-hand side of the Disk Utility window, select your internal disk’s boot partition (typically called “Macintosh HD”). On the right-hand side, press the Verify Disk button if it’s not greyed out; if it is greyed out, or if it reports that errors were found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu to restart in normal mode. Did this make any difference?
In case the slowdown is due to a problem with your hard drive, do you make regular backups? If not, you might want to consider buying an external drive to use as a Time Machine backup destination.

  • Mac Pro laptop running very slow and freezing often

Recently my Mac has been acting funny. I will be surfing the net or just trying to check my email and the spinning wheel will come up and spin forever. Sometimes it stops and lets me continue, sometimes and stops for a few minutes and does it again, other times I have to restart the computer. I have plently of memory left. I have checked to see what programs are running, etc and nothing looks abnormal. However when I created a new user - everything works fine. So question - how do I fix my user so that works just as good as the new user?

How are checking your emails? I had a similar problem but surfing the web with Safari, then I discovered that there was an update for Safari, updated and the problem is gone. Working great.

  • Snow leopard is very slow !

I updated my mac osx and now my laptop is very slow and the fan is often working.
This is really really slow with canon digital photo professional (3.8.2)
Do u have these problems ?
    Snow leopard ***** !

Looks like it uses high capacity Compact Flash cards. For that you would need a reader like this:
    http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-SDDRX4-CFR-Sandisk-Extreme-FireWire/product-review s/B000I04WWY/ref=dptop_cm_cr_acrtxt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1
Which is qualified for your Mac OS X version in terms of compatibility. Check with SanDisk if it will work with that.

  • Satellite P300-156 very slow

    Hi people,
my laptop is very slow, pop ups still getting through even on the highest setting and like a fool when i purchased it i didn't make any backup disc!

The hidden partition is created by Vista and its contains the data and files which are necessary to repair the OS.
You can pres F8 when powering the unit.
    Then a menu should appear.
Here you could choose first option: Repair my Computer.
    Now new windows will appear.
If your notebook supports an HDD recovery option then you should find a point called Toshiba HDD recovery. If the HDD recovery is not available, then you will not find this point.
You should also find some repair points provided by Vista
    Try it if you want

  • I own a 13-inch MacBook Pro and for the past day, my wifi on my laptop says I only have two bars of connection and is running very slow, but all of my other devices such as my iPhone and iPad are connecting perfectly to the wifi. How can I fix this? Thanks

I own a 13-inch MacBook Pro and for the past day, my wifi on my laptop says I only have two bars of connection and is running very slow, but all of my other devices such as my iPhone and iPad are connecting perfectly to the wifi. How can I fix this? I have tried to shut my laptop off and let it rest and I have also re-started my wifi router three different times. Someone please help me with this problem so I can begin to use my laptop again as I take it to school and use it for class.
    Thanks so much!

FCP, and all software on OSX, has a few different "preference" files (the extension is .plist), which store all your user settings. Each time you resize a window, change a setting, anything, this file is re-written. Kinda easy to see how they would become corrupt every now and then.
    -Close FCP
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences and delete com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
-Navigate to User>Library>Preferences>Final Cut Pro User Data and delete Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs
    -Empty your trash
Relaunch FCP and see if that worked.
Download FCP Rescue to make this process easier in the future. When you have FCP running really smooth, open FCP Rescue and create a backup of your preference files. If it starts acting wanky, just run FCP Rescue and Restore your backup preferences. Works really slick, and it's free.
EDIT: Or use the really simple explaination that X posted as I was typing.

  • I have mac, desktop v. 3.6.16 will not update to 6. My mac laptop is updated to 6 but runs very slow. How do I get my laptop back to 3.6.16

Desktop is an imac is 10.6.8 running firefox v 3.6.16 and runs well. My mac laptop also 10.6.8 automatically upgraded to 6.0 and runs very slow, and I do not like the layout of the toolbar. How do I get my laptop back to 3.16.6

Now it is clear which it wasn't before! We can't see what you have done or not so a good descriptions does help when communicating.
If you have done all you say and some restarts too I would advise you to do the install of 10.6 from the installation disc. Restart the computer and then install the 10.6.6 Combo update. You just install "on top" of what you have. No archiving or formatting.

  • Since download of Firefox Hello desktop & laptop both on Windows 7 are very slow even after refresh, download history removed and anti virus software turned off

Since download of Firefox Hello my home desktop & laptop, both on Windows 7, are very slow to open. I have refreshed firefox, removed download history and turned off the anti virus software in extensions. All the plugins are up to date. Can we revert back to Firefox without Firefox Hello?

Firefox Hello is simply a wrapper for technology already in Firefox, it doesn't negatively impact performance if you aren't using it. Are you saying that your entire computer is slow or just Firefox?

  • Initializing laptop HD via Firewire very slow

    Hi all,
I'm trying to initialize a new 80Gb laptop HD before installing a new copy of Panther on it for installation into a Mac mini. I'm doing the initialization, via a firewire cable and Macally enclosure, to a G4 MDD running Panther 10.3.9 using DiskUtility.
The initialization is very slow, top showing DiskUtility using around 1% of the CPU most of the time. The initialization has been running for 24+ hours and it's still going. The progress bar on DiskUtility has barely moved since it started.
Is the slowness a sign that my firewire port on the G4 motherboard is having a problem?
And can I safely just quit DiskUtility and put the HD back in the mini and do the initialization and installation via the Panther install discs directly on the Mac mini? Or am I stuck with waiting until it ends, since otherwise I'll screw up the partition map on the HD or something?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
    Ed

Hi Ed. Be sure in your disk utility the option "safety(s)" is/are not checked. This way the app writes zero
on all your hd blocks and, more, if 7 pass or 35 pass is checked the time will be veeeery long to finish.
Just initialize your disk the standard way, without any other option. You can also check your device integrity before init with the surface scan, this will take up more time but will ensure your device isn't defective. I've formatted many hd through FW cable to external enclosure, succesfully.
    regards
    Rob
