My HP Monitor goes to black with some regularity.

I have searched this topic in this forum and on the HP forums. As far back as six years ago, it was a known problem...i.e. monitors, of all brands apparently go black when hooked up to Apple computers. I even read that Apple recognized the problem and was working on a solution (besides simply rolling over and buying an Apple monitor...which does not appear to have this problem). Do any of you know of a solution?? I really like my HP monitor, but sometimes it is very frustrating to be working, and then be interrupted...sometimes several times in a minute.

  • When sending to Color from FCP, my video is mostly black, with some green highlights.

I have a sequence of ProRes 422 (LT) and I'm trying to send to Color from FCP, however, when the project opens, the video shows up as mostly black, with most highlights green, blue and red -- but 90% of the frame is completely black.  The weirdest part is, in the Color timeline, I can see the thumbnail for the video and it looks just fine.
Currently, I have a 2010 Mac Mini with 4gb of RAM and it's hooked up to my monitor through the HDMI port.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

I just got the 2010 Mac Mini -- but my previous Mini was the early 2009 model with only 2gb of RAM and Color ran just fine.  Any help/suggestions?

  • IMac monitor goes to black while running FCPX

I am running FCPX on the 27" iMac (i3) with 16GB ram.  After about an hour, the monitor (sometimes) will simply shutdown.  I can still hear the audio and the control would still work.  I am able to see the desktop via my LOGMEIN account, so I know the computer has not crashed.  After saving and shutting down the computer, it takes about 3 - 6 reboots until the monitor will turn back on.  This seems to me to be a GPU issue that is being taxed by FCP and it takes awhile for it to wake up.  I have brought the computer to Apple and the ran tests on it for the last week and could not recreate the issue.  They did not, however, use FCPX to test the video.  I am going to pick up the computer today and per their instructions reinstall FCPX.
Has anyone else had this or heard about this type of problem?

    Hi,
Check the monitor and cable on another PC.  Alternatively try another known good monitor and cable.

  • HP2311x Goes blank/black when connected to my hp Pavilion HPE

Last month, my monitor started to go blank periodically and with increasing frequency. The system setup is:
Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit)
    GeForce GT 530 video card
    8 Gb RAM
    Intel Core i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40 GHz
    I have:
    Cleaned the video card
Upgraded to the lastest GeForce driver
    Updated the monitor driver
    Factory reset the monitor
Changed the connector wire from DVI to HDMI
Connected another monitor to the HP Pavilion (works fine)
Connected the HP 2311x monitor to my Chromebook using HDMI (works fine)
Connected the monitor to my son's laptop (works fine)
The only time that the monitor goes blank/black periodically is when it is connected to the HP Pavilion HPE. A new monitor may solve the problem but as the monitor works with other computers I do not think that it is dead yet.
From the actions of the monitor it seems to switch off and then back on again.
Any ideas as to what to do to fix the issue?

I understand that your monitor goes black when connected to your desktop computer, and I would be happy to assist you in this matter!
To further diagnose this issue, I recommend following the steps in this document on Monitor or TV is Blank after Starting the Computer. This should help return the video display to your desktop computer through the monitor.

  • Open Text Content Server Monitoring Agent 5.0 with SCOM using SNMP

     Hi All
Got a requirement to integrate Opentext monitoring agent with SCOM 2012.
Can we use SNMP to forward the alerts to SCOM console ? or can we directly monitor opentext content server with some MP's ?
    Regards
    Madhavi.

That's the point. You cannot discover Windows Computers as Network Devices with SCOM 2012. So sending traps (directly) to SCOM is not possible.
You can think about a workaround like writing the events to the Windows Event Log and grab them with an Event Log Rule/Monitor. Or send the traps to System Center Orchestrator and write an Alert using the SCOM Integration Pack.
    Cheers,
    Patrick

  • My hp 2338h monitor come on for two second and goes dark black

Every time I turn my monitor on it works for about 1 to 2 seconds and goes dark I think I can see outlined in black the windows OS. how can I lighten it up so I can see it.

I am having the same problem with my hp w2338h monitor and was wondering if you found the solution to your problem? The only difference is I cannot see the image you are talking about on your monitor, my just stays black. Any luck on corecting the problem on your on or with some help? Thank you for your time.

  • 20' monitor goes dark with lines

I bought the monitor with the very first G5 2G dual tower. I have had the half dark screen and it was fixed. I got it back after that and it had another problem, it went all dark with horizontal lines, then it goes to black on the edges and vertical lines in a block in the center. Any ideas? When I sent it in for this last time, it was sent back and they said they could not get it to do that......ok it did seem fine for some time....but now it is doing it again. I have unplugged it and will leave it unplugged for a couple of days and try it one more time before I call and see (no under warranty now, was the first time it exhibited this problem) if it comes back to me again?

I have my monitor back and it has the same problem that it first had last summer. I don't know why the technician would have said this monitor was repaired when half the screen is darker than the other and the error light is doing the short-short-long, indicating the inherent problem that so many have encountered.
I am on the phone right now to try and get this resolved. This monitor has been sent in a total of 4 times now in the last 6 months.

  • Hp2010i Monitor goes black after a second or two

When I power on my desktop the monitor comes on for a second or two and then the screen goes black.  I tried powering off the monitor and then back on and it goes black again after a second or two.  I've checked all cables and connections and powered the complete system off for several minutes.  The computer itself is setting up properly -it's just the monitor giving me problems. Suggestions?

  • Pavilion 22bw monitor goes black

I recently purchased a used 22bw monitor. It has the appropriate 12V power block with correct
amps power block as per the label on the monitor. It works great for a few minutes and then goes black.
If I remove and reinsert the power input from the power block it comes back on and works ok
for another few minutes. Could just keep doing this but that would be a bit lame. The system I
am using is a Lenovo I-5 without a seperate video card and the Windows 7 Pro OS. I have turned
off all sleep settings in Windows and in the monitor itself but it still goes black after a few minutes
no matter whether I am watching video or just typing. Could this be a bad power inverter. I have
fixed other lcd monitors by replacing capacitors but I doubt that is the issue here. Any ideas?
    Thanks very much.

I understand that you are having issues with the HP Pavilion 22bw Backlit Monitor not staying on. I am providing you with some steps for you to try below:
Step 1. Unplug the power cord from the back of the monitor and the wall
Step 2. Hold the power button down for at least one minute
Step 3. Plug the power cord back into the monitor and then into the wall outlet (not a power bar or surge protector)
Step 4. Press the Menu button on the monitor
Step 5. Navigate to the Factory Reset option and select it
If the issue persists after this you can try the monitor on another computer to see if it continues. If it does it appears to be a physical issue and I think it would be best if you contact HP Technical Support for repair options.

  • Mini-DVI port: monitor goes black for a moment if wiggle the adaptor

I have an Early 2009 mini 2.0GHz, which I'm using with the included Mini-DVI to DVI adaptor.
I've discover that if I press down on the adaptor plug just right, the monitor flickers to black for a moment, as if the adaptor were pulled out of the Mini DVI port.
    I know: don't do that.
But it can also happen if the monitor cable gets tugged on just right (how I discovered it), and I'm concerned that the Mini DVI port may be loose on the motherboard, that it may get worse, that it may flicker intermittently without provocation, etc.
On the other hand, maybe this is just how the mini is built and I'll be wasting my time getting service.
So I'm hoping some of you can poke at your minis and see if it happens to you too.
    Instructions For Proper Poking:
º Have everything plugged in with computer and monitor on
º Press down gently on the plug that is plugged into the mini's Mini DVI port
º Try a little wiggle, press from the end of the plug where the wire comes out to get a little leverage, etc.
º Try gently picking the mini up a few times, so that the monitor cable is hanging down from the mini
It only happens sometimes for me.
    Thanks

So I just ran through the little test matrix you outlined in your first post with my Early 2009 mini. Result: no trouble whatsoever with intermittent connection. I would say what yours is doing isn't normal. Maybe some other people will try and report their results.
Mini DVI has been out there for a long time, albeit not on the Mac mini, but on other Apple notebook products. I have not heard that the connection is not "robust" ever. And I've been following the MacBook and MacBook Pro display forums for a couple years now.

  • Some pictures in I-Photo seem to be corrupted. When I click on them, the photo comes up for a second, then the picture turns black with a white fuzzy circle inside it and what looks like an explanation mark. Some older, some newer,  no common thread.

Some pictures in I-Photo seem to be corrupted. When I click on them, they come up for a second, then turn black with a white circle in the middle and what looks like an explanation mark. There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to the photos that are a problem, some older ones, some newer, some albums have none, some albums have a lot.
    Thanks,
    Mark

time to time (when I have a chance), I will go to Finder, bring up ALL Images and start going through them to label them (before I put a label on them, they are simply listed as 123 jpg, 124 jpg etc.).
You're damaging the Library doing that, and that's the cause of your problem.
Never, ever, ever use the  All Images search and work on items in yoyr iPhoto Library. They must only be accessed via the iPhoto window.
Restroe from abck up or try rebuild the Library:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
Next: You need to learn how to use iPhoto. There's no need to be dragging things to the desktop:

  • External monitor goes black when macbook pro has magsafe connected

    Hi,
I have bought an external monitor about 1 week ago, and I have it connected with a minidisplay to dvi cable, and a dvi cable to the monitor.
It was working OK -well, it had some sudden flash to black screen that lasted about 1 second, but nothing else- until thir morning when it just started showing a black screen. Mac OS sees the monitor, and I can move windows over there, etc. It's "alive". But I only see a black screen on the monitor.
I tested with other computer, and it works OK. The cables work too.
What I discovered is that if I unplug the power adaptor from the MBP the monitor screen shows correctly.
It works OK only if the magsafe adaptor is unplugged from the MBP, it doesn't care if the magsafe adaptor is plugged to the power or not; only if it's connected to the mac book pro.
It seems like some magnet stuff is making a mess there. What could it be? I can't work on the monitor only in battery power...
I tried resetting nvram and the other stuffs that I found here, but nothing works.
    Thanks!

  • Macbook Pro 2013 HDMI Monitor Goes Black for a few seconds

So I purchased a brand new Macbook Pro 2013 (specs below) and for the entire time I have been using it with a BenQ RL2455 via HDMI with no problems at all. Recently though I have started to experience problems between the computer and the monitor. There is no particular sequence as to when this will happen but the monitor screen just goes completely black for a couple of seconds, and then goes back to normal.
There is nothing to suggest that the monitor is being disconnected from the mac, as it still detects the fact that the two are still connected. I have followed each cable back to the source and they all seem to be properly connected.
As you can imagine, this is very annoying and inconvenient, and it would be much appreciated if anyone knows any solutions to this. I just thought i'd see if there was anything i could do before i contacted apple, just incase i was being a total idiot and missing something obvious!
    Thanks!

  • Laptop monitor goes black after connection external vga monitor

    Hey,
I have a Qosmio G50-10H, running windows 7 32-bit. After connecting an external monitor the internal laptop screen goes almost black. It's possible to see some elements on screen, but it's to dark grey to work on. It does not respond much to color or brightness adjustment (black to really dark grey). The main trouble is when disconnection the external monitor the internal monitor still is dark grey and still isn't responding much to adjustments. It's so dark on the brigthest adjustments that it is impossible to work on. I have downloaded latest driver for support, but still same problem.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi buddy,
That means the internal monitor is always dark grey even you start the notebook without external monitor?!
Well, in such cases it could be a LCD inverter malfunction. This part controls the backlight of LCD and if its defective, you can see a picture but its very dark/grey.
By the way: Do you notice the same behavior if you are in BIOS setup? So you can check if its Windows related problem or not.
In worst case you need help from an authorized service provider. They can check what the problem is exactly.
