  • How can I make a brush that starts and ends in a thin line?

    I am looking to make a brush that I can use for cartooning in CS6 that starts out thin, gets thicker with pressure (I have a cintiq), and ends in a thin line. Does anyone have the expertise to make one?
    Thank you.

    I watched the first half of the tutorial from your link and some parts of the rest. It is a good tutorial. He is using an art brush which profile was created from an elliptical shape with sharp corners which gives that ink kind of appearance which is good for this kind of style. Most of the time though I prefer the appearance of the rounded ends of the calligraphic brushes. Also one advantage of the calligraphic brushes is that it can change its size or the size of the selected strokes with the [ and ] keys on the keyboard while with the art brushes this is done by changing the stroke weight which also can change the weight of calligraphic brushes in addition to the [ and ] keys.
    Like in the tutorial I often use a similar workflow ending up with the brush strokes converted to filled paths but I simply use expand appearance then remove the unwanted parts with the Eraser brush which can be made pressure sensitive in the options that you get when double clicking the Eraser tool. This is less precise than the technique the guy is using in the video tutorial but it is quick, I like  the hand touch appearance of the imperfections, and it also allows me to paint the white (transparent) highlights like for example the highlights on the booths of my cowboy. The Blob brush is the tool above the Eraser in the Tool panel and works basically the same like the Eraser but it adds to the fill of a path and it also has these and more options when you double click it. I use it most of the time in a combination with the Eraser to add or remove final details of illustrations started initially with brush strokes and then expanded. And like in the video tutorial I also like to keep a copy with the stage before expanding the brush strokes in case I need some changes on brush stroke level.
    I also use a different technique for adding new color fills on the illustrations instead of cutting paths with the knife. I don't like the knife because I often do not like the first cut which I may realize later when undo is not the best workflow. What I do is copy paste in front the path and use the pencil tool set to edit the selected paths and change the shape of the selected path similar to using the knife but the pencil has to start and end on the path. The advantage of this for me is that the new fill with the different color is overlapping the original fill behind and when later I decide to change its shape I don't get gaps between the two colors which is what will happen if the knife was used.

    I agree it would be useful. It's something that's been asked for. The best thing is to keep requesting at the Lightroom feature request forum

  • How to make start and end curve pieces of selected tab transparent in custom theme in FF33?

    I created my own theme using a background image but it seems I cannot code it right in browser.css to make the start and end curve pieces of selected tab transparent. They remain colored, I guess using the operating system's (which is Win XP) dialog color. The middle piece is fine, though, as well as the hovering.
    I built my theme based on https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Building_a_Theme but customised it.
    Your answer would be highly appreciated!

  • Reinstall hpotap07.dll on Office Jet G85

    I am using a HP Office Jet G 85 with a Windows XP operating system.  My printer works but the directory and other additional functions do not giving me a message the hpotap07.dll is not located.  The functions did work until XP was installed.  I have tried uninstalling and re-installing and it still is not there.  Anyone have an answer for me?  Thank you for the help....

    I understand you are receiving an error regarding a missing DLL.
    You mentioned you tried uninstalling and reinstalling.  Was this done using the download found here or from the CD?  If it was from the download, do you have access to the CD?

  • Clicks at beginning and end of Clip

    I have a Clip that I am using as a click sound on components, and a class with static methods to play them. When you play the .wav files in an editor (Sound Forge, in this case), everything sounds and looks fine. But when I play them as a clip, I get a "click" sound at the beginning and end of the clip. During playback, everything is fine, no clicks or anything. Here is the code that actually plays the clip (abbreviated):
    private static byte[] clickSound;
    private static byte[] startUpSound;
    private static Clip clickClip;
    private static Clip startupClip;
    public enum Sounds {
        CLICK, STARTUP;
    public static void playSound(AudioManager.Sounds soundType) {
        Clip clip = null;
        try {
            switch (soundType) {
                case CLICK:
                    if (clickSound == null) {
                        System.out.println("clickSound is null");
                        InputStream in = new Object().getClass().getResourceAsStream("/data/sounds/click.wav");
                        clickSound = new byte[in.available()];
                        in.read(clickSound, 0, clickSound.length);
                        in = null;
                        clickClip = AudioSystem.getClip();
                        clickClip.open(AudioManager.getAudioFormat(), clickSound, 0, clickSound.length);
                    clip = AudioManager.clickClip;
                    break;
                case STARTUP:
                    if (startUpSound == null) {
                        try {
                            System.out.println("startUpSound is null");
                            InputStream in = new Object().getClass().getResourceAsStream("/data/sounds/startup.wav");
                            //System.out.println("in.available() = " + in.available());
                            startUpSound = new byte[in.available()];
                            in.read(startUpSound, 0, startUpSound.length);
                            in = null;
                            startupClip = AudioSystem.getClip();
                            startupClip.open(AudioManager.getAudioFormat(), startUpSound, 0, startUpSound.length);
                        } catch (IOException ex) {
                            // ignore any exceptions here, it just won't play the sound
                    clip = AudioManager.startupClip;
                    break;
        } catch (IOException ex) {
            // ignore any exceptions here, it just won't play the sound
        } catch (LineUnavailableException ex) {
            // ignore any exceptions here, it just won't play the sound
        if (clip != null) {
            try {
                clip.setFramePosition(0);
                clip.start();
            } finally {
                clip = null;
    }Any ideas on what the cause of the "clicking" is at the beginning and end of the clips?

    captfoss,
    Thank you so much. You are 100% correct. And, I might add, you helped me catch myself on doing something that I complain about others doing: not looking things up. You figured out the problem by simply reading the javadoc, something I have always been a proponent of, but failed to do so in this case.
    So thanks again! :)
    I did as you prescribed, and it worked without flaw. I did, however, have to make one small modification due to the way I am storing my wav files (of which you would be unaware). I am storing them inside the same jar that I am executing from, and so I can't simply make a new File("/data/sounds/click.wav"). You have to actually write the file to the disc first, then create the file reference, like this:
    InputStream in = new Object().getClass().getResourceAsStream("/data/sounds/click.wav");
    File tempWav = File.createTempFile("click", ".wav");
    BufferedOutputStream out = new BufferedOutputStream(new FileOutputStream(tempWav));
    byte[] buffer = new byte[1024];
    while ((in.read(buffer))!=-1){
        out.write(buffer);
    out.close();
    AudioInputStream ais = AudioSystem.getAudioInputStream(tempWav);
    clickClip = AudioSystem.getClip();
    //clickClip.open(AudioManager.getAudioFormat(), clickSound, 0, clickSound.length);
    clickClip.open(ais);The system complains about having a non-hierarchical reference if I don't write it to a temp file first. Is there a way around that too? I can award you more points in another thread, if you'd like.
    I could do that anyways if the Duke points mean anything to you. :)

  • How can I make the start and end of a move smooth?

    In Premiere Elements 11 I often have zooms or pans which I want to begin gradually, then speed up slightly and then slow down as each one ends. I've tried every comination and permutation of temporal and spatial interpolation, and I still can't seem to get it quite right. Often I wind up with the image doing a graceful arc (no doubt the result of a bezier interpolation) rather than just moving in a straight line. Is there just a simple solution? I just can't stand having a move start and stop with jerky linear motion.
    Thanks in advance.

    If you want to change what the clip rubberband represents, you can click on the tiny triangle next to the Timeline's clip's title.
    Please refer to blog post on Video and Audio Track Content Rubberband
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/06/pe11-video-and-audio-track-rubberband.html
    In the case of a video clip, the default for its rubberband is Opacity. But that can be changed to Motion. As I wrote in the blog post
    The Motion Property options are Position, Scale, Constrain Proportions, Rotation, Anchor Point, or Anti-Flicker filter. The Opacity choice is just Opacity.
    Keyframing of these properties are reflected as white dots on the clip's rubberband and can be adjusted at that level.
    If you do not see the white dots keyframes in the clip's rubberband, then right click the file, select "Show Clip Keyframes", follow to Motion and Opacity, pick one, and follow to find your property named, and select it.
    At the rubberband level, right clicking a keyframe (white dot) there, offers opportunities for Linear, Bezier, Auto Bezier, Continous Bezier, Hold, Ease In, Ease Out, and Delete. If you select Bezier, do you see the keyframe handles?
    I have not done this, but you might want to see how much of the following you can get done in Premiere Elements using the Final Cut description of "Smoothing Keyframes with Bezier Hangles".

  • My Office jet 7110 makes a loud grinding noise when I start it up.

    My all-in-one also fails to generate the report using menu options 3,5.
    Could it be a false paper jam?  I checked for a paper jam.  That wasn't it.

    Is it three beeps? That usually means that you have a bad RAM stick or that it is not properly seated.
    Can you boot to your Recovery partition? Hold down the Command and R keys when you power on.
    If you can't boot from your Recovery partition, try to boot while holding down the "D" key - this should take you to the Apple Hardware Test - see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509. If the D key does not work, try holding down the Option and D key when booting (make sure that you have an Internet connection).
    If all of these steps fail, get your machine to an Apple Store. You are still under your one-year warranty.

  • HP Office Jet 8600, replacement print head with start up cartridges, error messages

    OK,   I've had this printer for some time and the print quality denegrated to the point that NO amount of cleaning would resolve the bad quality.  So, sprung for a brand new print head kit,OEM mind you, complete with start up cartridges.  I followed the instructions from HP support and installed the head AND the start up cartridges  and KEEP GETTING A MESSAGE TO USE THE START UP CARTRIDGES, ALL COLORS.   I AM using those cartridges and can't get past this error message step.  Some assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • IPod 160 GB Makes Extra "Clicking" Sound In The End...

    So if I jump to another album, hold the device to my ear, i hear the drive doing it's normal process...
    once i pick a song...it'll run for a couple seconds..and then the drive will calm down (which is normal)..*but right after it calms down, it makes this half second "clickity" sound at the end...*
    Is that normal?

    it sounds like the hard drive read heads are parking themselfs.
    Its perfectly normal for the heads to park on a hard disk, it stops the drive getting dammaged.

  • Dissatisfied with HP Office jet 6700 Premium Printer

    I've had a HP Office Jet 6700 Premium Printer for 18 months and have encountered a failed printer head issue which essentially requires full replacement of the printer.  I've seen many other similar reports by others which clearly indicates this printer has a serious problem with the printer heads.  I'm getting ready to replace this printer, which is just 6 months out of warranty, and will seek another vendor to provide printing equipment.  Very disappointed in HP's printer product and will gladly provide input to help others avoid running into this problem.

    Please read this post then provide some details.   What operating system?  What are the error messages on the printer or computer screen?
