HP Officejet 6500 wireless has stopped printing black ink.  Followed all troubleshooting steps to no avail. Prints colors but black is either very faint or not present

    Welcome to the forums Irgoodspeed
I saw your post about your Oj 6500 Wireless no longer printing in black ink. I noticed you have already changed the cartridge which did not help.
I would recommend following this troubleshooting guide:
Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions: click here.

  • I have an officejet 6500 wireless, doesn't print fonts from quickbooks after moved to new house...

I have an officejet 6500 wireless and it worked just fine - used it for pronting from Quickbooks.  Moved to new house. Because of new router had to reinstall via install CD.  Install worked fine.  When printing checks from Quickbooks I now get a message that says the the printer does not support the font being requested - it used to...what's up with this?

Does this only happen when printing from Quickbooks? Have you tried adjusting the settings in QB's? The meesage you are receiving is saying that the font that QB's is wanting to use is not supported by the printer.
I've included a link to the Hp website that has some updates available for this printer that might help as well.

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what happens when you try to print?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
    what model printer?
how much free space on your boot drive?

  • Hp officejet 4500 wireless won't print from laptop. It is connected to laptop. It prints from desktop

We have a HP Officejet 4500 wireless printer which was first installed in 2011 without any problems. We also utilize a HP LaserJet P1006 printer (not wireless) with our network. I cannot print from my laptop to either printer, but hubby's desktop has no problem. Both printers stopped working for my laptop at the same time. Everything worked perfectly until a few weeks ago when I could no longer print directly from my Dell Inspiron laptop. When I check on the connectivity of both printers to my laptop, the information tells me the printers are connected to my laptop.
My husband has a Dell desktop (our main computer).
I have tried everything I know to fix this problem, including shutting down the desktop, my laptop, the router, and the printers (including disconnecting the printers from the desktop with the cords that connect to the printers). I have followed all instructions on how to restart the entire system...plug the router in, plug in the printers & turn them on, and lastly restart both computers.
I am not what one would call "computer savvy"; as a matter of fact, I am quite computer-challenged. If any of you can tell me in extremely-easy-to-understand language what to do, I would appreciate your help.

  • Officejet 6500 - suddenly won't print black ink

I have an OfficeJet 6500.  It used to work just fine, but all of a sudden, the black ink is not working.  I checked that there was ink in the cartridge (there was), and I even replaced the cartridge with a new one.  I did a print test page, and the colors are working, but no black ink.  I tried rebooting, reinstalling drivers, plugging directly into wall outlet, but still no luck.  Sometimes, I can see very faint black ink on  the page, but it is definitely unusable like this.  Anyone have any ideas on what to do?
I am on Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit.  There weren't any changes made to the computer right before this problem started.

You need to get a new printhead

  • Officejet 6500 wireless doesn't print after computers wake up

Upgraded to Windows 7, but got a new integrated modem/router combo.  It's a Netgear DGND3300.
    My whole network is wireless.
I never had this issue with my 2Wire Home Portal 2701 modem/router combo.  It worked flawlessly and I mean flawlessly.
I have to reinstall my drivers for the printer and then it will work.  If we go to bed and and then try to print the next morning, it's like the printer info hangs in the spool.
I get the icon saying it's printing, no errors, but the printer just doesn't print!
So if I wirelessly delete the printer then reinstall it, it will print fine.
I can't figure out where the issue is.  Turning off the computer and turning it back on again doesn't seem to help.

    Good job on the  firmware.
Have you downloaded this patch for Win 7 upgrades?

  • HP Officejet 6500 Wireless will not print black but will color

I did the soak & had a lot of build up & put it back in machine it still with not print anything black. I've tried copying a form still no luck, I tried a hard shut down to reboot its self still nothing. What else could it be? or what else could I try to get it up an working?
    thanks~~

    @fradybaby
Did you get any improvement at all with the Black after soaking the printhead? (as usually it is quite successful). Sometimes it might take a couple of attempts with the soak.
Is the printer still within warranty? (typically it's one year from date of purchase), as the issue could be related to the printer itself.

  • Re: HP Officejet 6500 Wireless will not print with black ink

My black ink cartridge was not working and I came across this site. Thank you Pokerchip your method worked fine I was about to buy a new printer till I came across your blog, I placed all the cartridges in plastic bags and  I washed the printer head first in metholated spirits then rinsed it well under the tap till the water ran clear, I placed the printerhead ouside in the warm night air overnight and in the morning put it back in my printer when it was thoroughly dry at first the printer message read no printhead installed so I press the ok button and the printer when through a process and finally printed a test page it was absolutely perfect, you saved me heaps of money very grateful for your help and I hope this helps others as well. Check out Pokerchip's blog on this site

I am glad things worked out for you, but there are two parts I would NOT recommend:  first, do not use metholated spirits as this can cause the printhead to delaminate requiring printhead replacement.  Secondly, I would not recommend leaving the printhead out of the printer overnight as this can allow the printhead to dry out and/or introduce air into the printhead.
The post here has my recommendations for cleaning the printhead, this has worked for many people.

  • Officejet 6500 wireless E709n general error 0x6100004c, what does this mean?

Been getting general error 0X6100004C many times now when powering up the printer. Have tried powering off printer and powering back up, still same result. Seems only way to clear error is to remove all cartridges from printer and power it off then back on without the cartridges. The printer then says no cartridges in printer, but after powering printer off and re-installing cartridges, error message clears. Any ideas?

This article should help resolve the error you are getting:

  • My motor receives data via a serial connection, but it won't move. What am I doing wrong?

    Hello everyone,
as the title says, I am trying to use a motor called "MP285" by Sutter Instruments via LabView. The control unit of this motor only has a RS232-output, but I use a Serial-to-Usb-Adapter to connect the device to the PC.
    My problem is the following:
I tried to perform a basic Input/Output test by using the Ni MAX an sending ASCII strings to the control unit (after configuring it according to the reference manual), which worked fine. I also used the "jabber"-function of the control unit to send an output string to the PC and was also able to read that string from the buffer. Besides, when I used a LabView-VI to send a command via VISA Write, it also appears on the display of the control (at least the ASCII letters).
Accordingly, I assume that the Serial-to-USB-adapter does work. Is that for sure, or can the adapter evoke any other problems?
However, when I try to use the shipped controlling software, the motor won't work. Furthermore, I contacted the customer support and they sent me some VIs and a LabView-Project, which was tested by the company. Unfortunately, it did not work for me. The motor wouldn't move, when I sent the command, although the LabView-interface indicates that there the connection between PC and controller has been established. As the program has many features and I only need a command to move the motor, read the position and set the origin, I tried to build my own VI. I had a look at some basic VIs for motor control and referred to the manual.
As it seems, the controller uses data streams of full bytes (8 bits, not ASCII) in Big Endian for its strings (I copied the information at the bottom of this text). Thus, I tried to concatenate particular strings to send it via VISA in the correct form (see attached). Do I have to convert the "m" into hexadecimal explcitly? I looked up "Convert ASCII to Hexadecimal", but when I try this, the output string does not change.
However, when I send this string to the controller in normal mode, nothing happens . When I activate the Input/Ouput test (see above), there is a m displayed on the controller unit. So I guess, I am messing up the command structure. Can anybody help me please?
    Kind regards
PS: Sorry for cleaning up the diagramm..
PPS: For some reason, I could not attach the VI because " The contents of the attachment doesn't match its file type". So, I changed the name in "-vi" instead of ".vi" as suggested by a forum user. Hope this works for you!
    Excerpt form the reference manual:
    General Information:
"Command requests are single bytes followed by optional parameters and terminated by a
carriage return (CR, 0Dh). The data stream consists of full bytes (all 8 bits — not ASCII.
The lowest order byte (for example, of the four bytes encoding the X coordinate) is the first
into the controller and is the first out. The default Baud rate is 9600. Commands are
processed bytewise by interrupt and executed only after the terminating CR is received.
There are no delimiters within command strings. The controller will reply with carriage
return (CR, 0Dh) at the completion of normal command processing."
    Command structure:
    Get Current Position      command ‘c’CR 063h + 0Dh
returns xxxxyyyyzzzzCR three signed long (32-bit) integers + 0Dh
    Go To Position                 command ‘m’xxxxyyyyzzzzCR 06Dh + three signed long (32-bit) integers + 0Dh
                                                returns CR 0Dh
    Setting up for Serial Communication:
First, use the 9-pin serial port cable provided with the MP-285 to connect the “serial port” of
your computer to that of the MP-285 controller. Next configure your terminal emulator (e.g.,
HyperTerminal in Microsoft Windows (9X and above) to the following settings (or their
    equivalent):
    • TTY mode
    • Echo typed characters locally only (do not echo input to the computer serial port back to
    the controller)
    • Baud rate to 9600
    • 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit
    • COM port - set to the port to which you have connected the MP-285 controller

    Thank you for your feedback!
To make this clear: I dont know if the motor MOVES when sending the appropriate command via MAX. That is because I dont know how to enter the binary? command. I only tried to send some string like "dear moto please move" to see if this ASCII string can be displayed on the control unit while running the input-mode (which I described above).
This works for both, MAX and my Labview-Vi.
However, these are the I/O traces:
    1. MAX: I sent the string: "Test"
    NI I/O trace:

    2. LabView-Vi (I removed everything that followed the first "Visa Write" and added the recommended property node to check if my termination char is correct). I sent string "TEST".
