  • Macbook Pro makes a very loud noise as soon as i turn it on

hi there im having an issue and i was wondering if someone could help me.. basically i only just bought my macbook pro about a week ago and my issue is that every time i turn it on it makes a really LOUD noise which is so irritating! and i know its not normal cause i have a friend with a macbook pro and his doesn't do that the noise he has is very low.. i was wondering if someone could help me out?

You might try running the extended version of the Apple Hardware Test (on one of your gray system discs) and see if you get anything in the nature of an error code which would point to the cause of the noise.
Also, download iStatPro and use it to check your fan speed. If it is 6000 RPM or so, that is likely the cause of the noise. Fans normally idle silently at 2000 RPM, so 6000 RPM would not be normal.
Also, if the noise is the fan, open Activity Monitor. Select "All Processes" at the top and "CPU" on the bottom. Look for a rogue process which is consuming an inordinate amount of the CPU.
If the fans are at 2000 RPM, there is a high possibility that the noise is coming from your hard drive. If so, back up everything immediately and contact Apple about a repair or replacement. Since your Mac is just a week old, you may be able to exchange it for a new one if there is a hardware problem with it.
    Good luck!

  • My powerbook makes a very loud noise for hours!

i dropped my powerbook off my lofted bed the other day and it landed on the ground on the very left side. the charger is a little bent and split (the actual thing you insert into the computer), and the very left side where the charger whole is is a little bent.
however, there's been a noise coming out of my computer like a tktktktkttk noise constantly. it's very loud and disturbing. the powerbook runs fine except for this noise. i don't know if a fan is broken or something. the noise will stop when i put the powerbook to sleep and usually will stay quiet if i'm either running just safari or Word, but if i open itunes or ichat or anything where it needs to start something up the noise goes on for hours.
it started last night for a few minutes, then stopped, and now it's been doing this the entire day.
    my questions are:
    1. is this a problem with the fan?
    2. is there anything i can do to stop it?
    3. what is the problem?
    4. how much will it cost to repair? i have applecare, but that runs out in feb., and i knwo they won't cover it for accidential damages.
    5. any other advice?
    6. has this happened to anyone before?

    Hi ...
If the sound you hear on startup sounds like a "chord" being played, that's ok. That's telling you your Mac passed it's startup diagnostic tests. But a "whirring" noise.... no, that should not happen.
If it doesn't sound like a chord, probably best to take it back for a replacement. You have 14 days from the date you received the product for an exchange. Beyond that, your iMac has a one year limited warranty.

  • My headphone audio output on imac makes a very loud low freg buzzing sound.

I have my Imac hooked up to my home studio for recording music. It is currently hooked up to my high quality rane mixer, which has superior sound quality. But for some reason every time I plug a cord into the headphone jack to my mixer, TV or anything else from the Imac headphone jack, it comes out with a very loud low frequency humming/buzzing noise even on very low volume settings, even with the bass turned all the way down. It is extremely annoying. Does anyone else have this problem? I would expect a little more from apple products. Especially with something simple like this, since these machines are mostly designed for video/audio production. . I have tried switching my cords around and changing my setup for months now. No luck. And, no, my imac does not have an optical out and I think that would probably solve the whole problem. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Do you have your recording equipment isolated from the computer equipment? These buzzes and rumbles are usually easily solved by making sure that your audio equipment is plugged into a different electrical circuit than the iMac.
However, yes your iMac does indeed have digital audio. I do not know of an Intel model that does not have digital audio. The audio ports do both analog and digital audio. To use digital audio you need a Toslink cable with a miniplug adapter on the iMac end of the cable.

  • My 2009 iMac is making a very loud, rapid pulsating electronic noise. It stops temporarily after adjusting the screen brightness or using certain apps. But it always returns

My 2009 iMac is making a very loud noise. It sounds like a rapid, pulsating electronic noise. It stops when the screen brightness is adjusted or when using certain apps. But it always returns and is getting louder. The unit was shut down for 4 months and the house temperature was set to 5C. It was powered up 2 weeks ago and ran fine for a while. Then in the last 5 or 6 days the problem started. 5 days ago I did watch a bike race for 3 or 4 hours from a quasi legal stream. I am not tech savvy. Just very confused as I've had a trouble free run so far. Ditto with my iphone5.

I would recommend taking it in immediately to your local Apple Store or AASP to be loooked at by an Apple Genius. I suspect you made a goof somewhere but diagnosing noises without seeing it is really difficult.

  • Sinds I'm using Lion on my iMac is printing an Email very large.... if i print by AirPrint from my iPhone it's normal

Can somebody tell how I can change that so I don't have to use so much paper and the text isn't so big?! And I don't mean just to use the posibility to print smaler.....

If you are wondering why you are not getting any responses, it is because you have vented a complaint without any details that make any sense or give anyone something to work on.
If you want help, I suggest actually detailing what has happened, with versions of software etc. Anything that would let us assist.
As a start I am guessing that you have not really got the hang of "How it all works". Firstly download the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf from under the Help menu. Read that and view the Video Tutorials in the same place. A good addition would be the iWork 09 Missing manual book and something to help you learn how to use your Mac.

You'll have to take it in.
With the original box, this isn't too bad if you don't have to walk far.
If it's too big and heavy, you could perhaps meet an Apple Store employee at the entrance and have them remove it from your car (assuming you drive to the store).

  • Printing photos from iPhoto 9.5.1 on my printer yeilds garish two color prints. Exporting the photo from iPhoto to desktop then printing from Preview works fine. How can I get good prints from iPhoto?

When printing photos in iPhoto 9.5.1 with my HP inkjet printer the multitude of colors in the photos are reduced to two, Magenta and Yellow. If the photos are exported to my desktop (MacPro) and printed from Preview, the colors in the prints are fine. How do I get iPhoto to print the colors correctly?

    Brad
What settings did you use in the Export Dialogue?
When you go File -> Export you get a tabbed box with various options. In the File Export tab you can choose to scale the pics, or keep them the same size, change or retain the format.

  • 160 GB iPod Classic: VERY loud noise upon connecting!!

    Hello,
Every time I connect my iPod to my computer, it makes these very loud and frightening grinding noises. It has only happened since I got my iMac back from repairs, during which the hard drive was replaced.
It only occurs when I connect, and later, when I eject. After a while it stops.
Nothing appears to be wrong with the iPod, and it syncs fine. This noise is the only issue.
Here is a video showing what happens:

Note: you may need to turn your volume up to hear it.

Yeah- that sounds very frightening indeed. I also have the 160GB iPod Classic black but it purs like a kitten. I've had problems with the battery meter not being accurate but I can deal with that. I hope you have it insured with an extended warranty like I got when I bought it at Best Buy last year.

  • Printing from Icon Very Slow

I am running acroread 9.1.1 under Debian Linux (Lenny) and have a very weird print problem.
If I print by going to File->Print all works OK: The print dialog comes up and generates the print preview in a second or two. I then print and the progress bar comes up showing each page printing and smoothly progresses through the job in just seconds. All prints OK.
BUT if I try to print by using the Printer Icon on the toolbar things go painfully slow. The print dialog pops up but it takes 3 to 4 times as long to generate the print prevew. If I then print the progress dialog box pops up but the progress bar goes nowhere for a very long time (45 to 60 seconds, sometimes more) then finally zips to 100%. During the progress bar going nowhere acroread is basically frozen. You can not cancel the print job and moving anything over acroread will leave "trails" (e.g. the screen is not getting redrawn). The print job will finally print out OK.
Looking at the tmp file acroread creates when printing, the empty file is created when the print progress dialog comes up but remains empty until the progress bar goes into the "zip" phase.
I have looked at all the properties in each print dialog and all settings are identical with both File->Print and the Icon.
The effect happens both to the Browser plug in and just running acroread stand-alone.
It also was happening in the previous version 9 that I had installed (9.0.1 I think).
Any thoughts on where to look for the problem?

If Adobe Acrobat Reader prints slowly try the following:
    1.             Open a PDF file
    2.             From the menu, select File > Print
    3.             From the dialog displayed, click on the Advanced button at the bottom
    4.             On the Advanced Print Setup dialog, make sure that “Let printer determine colors” is CHECKED.
    5.             Click OK and OK to print the document.
    This worked for me.

  • Macbook Pro Lid Making Very Loud Cracking Noises

I recently got my Macbook Pro 13" screen replaced for a pixel defect. When I opened and closed my lid, the lid moved smoothly from either position.
Now, it feels as if the lid has more resistance when I operate it. Worst of all, when it is at a 90 degree angle and I slowly retract it, the lid makes a very loud "crack" from the hinge. Could it be that the lid's screws are in too tightly?

You can try a SMC reset:

  • Help- my ipod is making VERY strange clicking/buzzing/humming noises

The screen went funky and at one point only showed the backlight. now when it's plugged in my computer doesn't recognize it nor itunes and the dumb think makes a very loud buzzing/clicking/humming kind of a sound internally from what I can tell. What in the world is happening? I am afraid it died and I am extremely disappointed by it.

Sounds like you have a hardware issue there--possibly the hard drive. If you're on a Mac, run your Disk Utility on the hard drive once.

  • Very loud noise heeelp

I bought my macbook pro on ebay 2 years ago and have not had any problems with it until recently. It gets very hot when using it and makes a very loud noise if i smack the bottom of it the noise stops but recently it hasnt stopped andis getting worse. any ideas?

I suggest not 'smacking' your MBP.  The noise makers on a MBP are the fans and the HDD.  You could open the unit and see if dust and debris have accumulated inside and if so, clean it out.  Open Disk Utility>First Aid and run verify and repair.  Also running the Apple Hardware test might give some clues:

If no problems are identified, than an appointment at the Apple store genius bar is in order.
    Ciao.
