My HP Pavilion 20 windows 8 desktop won't run the recovery disk

I bought this recovery disk awhile back and it never worked to recover the computer. You can here the disk spinning inside but nothing apears on the screen. I did a hard disk test and everything came back passing. I tried getting into my UEFI firmware settings to reset the BIOS but everytime i click the option it just gives me a blue screen with the erorr code 0xc000000f so I can't even get in their.
This question was solved.

Then it would appear that the recovery partition is corrupt and the recovery disk you had, where ever you got it from was defective or had no bootable data.
You would have to order recovery disks from HP if available.

You may alternately download and create a Windows 8.1 ISO to install.  It will not have the HP software though.

  • Windows 7 Desktop won't run

I have a palm centro and recently purchased a new dell laptop running Windows 7 64 bit.  Installed the Desktop 6.2.  Worked for a couple of days.  Suddenly would not load on startup with an error message.  Finally got through to a Palm tech through ATT who advised that 6.2 does not support Windows 7, but that they are working on a Winodws 7 version.  Who knows when, if ever that may be available.   The Palm aspects of the phone are not very useful w/o an operable desktop.  Any suggestions?
    Post relates to: Centro (AT&T)

dchoran can you clarify your statement about "they are working on a Winodws 7 version"?  Who exactly told you that?  Someone who works for Palm Inc. or AT&T?  Did they tell you Access was going to make the software?
This would be the first time any of us have heard this claim, and frankly it runs contrary to what we've been told.  Other users report Palm Desktop 6.2.2 works with Win7, but only the 32 bit version can sync via a cable.
For either Palm or Access to produce a new version of Palm Desktop that runs on 64bit Operating Systems would be quite surprising at this stage of the game!

  • Satellite A200 won't boot from recovery disk

I need to reinstall the notebook but every time I boot from CD it won't.
I tried every boot disk ( xp pro, xp home, Toshiba recovery disk ) at house but none of it works.
The recovery disk boots (windows is loading) but after loading my laptop restarts.

    > Try to run Recocery CD under Windows and then choose reinstall option from cd menu
Something like that is not possible using the Toshiba Recovery disk
    > tried every boot disk ( xp pro, xp home, Toshiba recovery disk ) at house but none of it works.
In my opinion your CD/DVD drive can not read the inserted medias and therefore its not possible to restore the operating system.
I think the CD/DVD drive should be checked by an notebook technician and if necessary it should be replaced.

  • I'm trying to install a new hard drive on my Touchsmart but the recovery disks won't boot.

The Touchsmart 300-1120 is only 1.5 years old and it's hard drive is already fried.  I bought a new hard drive, ordered the recovery disks, and it still won't boot.  I've changed the boot order to go from the CD drive first, but all it does is click and then give the same error message it gave when the fired hard drive was in.  I checked the diagnostic, and it can see the new hard drive...it just won't boot.

Sometimes they do work - i've done it before.  I have a late 2008 Macbook Uni and used the install dvd of my 2009 Macbook White and it worked.
Why not just clone your hard drive?  It'll save you a lot of time doing a clone rather than doing a clean install.
Unless you're having issues with your old set up or  your old hard drive is dead.
You can download Carbon Copy Cloner - install your new hard drive in a external usb enclosure (around $10) and clone fromt here then test it before you install it in your Macbook.
Once you've done the swap, you can install your old hard drive in the USB enclosure and use it as a backup drive.
    Good luck

  • Upgrade won't recognize the hard disk to begin the installation

Powerbook G4 w/ 9.2.2 & the original CD for OS X 10.1 - thought I'd get it on and upgrade from there since I know I'll need to buy more RAM - existing is 385 & I only have 10 G on the system. I downloaded several updates, ran the security update first. The 10.1.1 update won't recognize the hard disk to begin the installation.Thought I had a clue, but stuck in the jungle upgrading. Which one is which - is Jaguar 10.2??? Do I need to be doing each of these upgrades to get it running well until I add the RAM? I'm trying to stay calm since it updated my IE and I think I lost everything I had on it - too fast with the click and assumed they were separate entities....(unless there is a genius out there who can help on that front too)
    many thanks... Kate

Hi Kate! And Welcome To Discussions!
You're lucky Kappy is helping you out with this. He is one of the more knowledgable posters here!
I'm just adding some extra info.
There are two PowerBook models that need a Firmware Update, before you can install a newer OS X.
Check if one of them is yours.
Mac OS X Versions 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, and 10.4, are complete system upgrades that must be purchased.
The point upgrades, such as 10.1.x to 10.1.5 (Final) 10.2.x to 10.2.8 (Final), 10.3.x to 10.3.9 (Final), and 10.4.x to 10.4.6 (Pending), can be downloaded for free.
Tiger is available for purchase at The Apple Store (U.S.).
Jaguar and Panther, are no longer available directly from the Apple Online Store, as Tiger 10.4.x is the most up to date OS.
Jaguar Full Retail Version CDs, a Full Retail Version, of the Panther Install CDs, or a Full Retail Version of the Tiger Install DVD, can be purchased rather inexpensively, at some online Apple retailers, Amazon, eBay, AppleRescue, etc.
Be sure not to purchase grey, upgrade or machine specific CDs or DVDs.
Jaguar and Panther are only on CDs, not DVDs.
More info here Tip: Using OS X Install CDs/DVDs On Multiple Macs
Once Jaguar 10.2.x is installed, you can use the 10.2.8 combo update,
or if Panther 10.3.x is installed, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update, to upgrade to the final edition of either OS.
If your Mac meets the System Requirements for Tiger, you could also consider installing that.
And then use the 10.4.6 Combo Update.
You'll find System Requirements in these links:
    Panther
    Tiger
    Additionally,
"Tiger ships on a DVD, but if your Mac doesn’t have a built-in DVD-ROM player, you’ll need CD media. When you buy Mac OS X Tiger, you qualify to purchase Tiger CDs for only $9.95."

  • Upgrading a new Tecra Laptop with Windows 7 Pro to Windows 8.1 via the recovery disks

Just received a new Tecra Z50-A laptop from my company. I need to install Windows 8.1 which is supposed to be on the recovery disks I received. The laptop doesn't have a DVD drive and they are not available to ship until the end of the month from Toshiba.
    1. Can the update be done from a shared DVD drive on another machine?
    2. Has anyone done this and what steps are involved?
    3. Where they are revovery disks -- will this wipe all of the applications that are installed on the laptop?
    Thanks
    JL

Which Tecra Z50-A? There is a label on the bottom.
I know of no way to install from an ODD on another computer. Best to obtain the recovery media on a thumbdrive. Toshiba offers to ship either one.
Recovery media wipes the drive clean and restores it to a predetermined state, which includes all the drivers, utilities, and bloatware that comes with a new machine.

  • Install programs form the recovery disk to the upgraded windows

    hi
I have HP G60-230us and I've upgraded form windows vista to windows 7. I used to use the programs which came with the computer. but when i upgraded to windows 7 all the programs were deleted. I need these programs.
Can I install these programs from the recovery-disks to the new windows?

No, the recovery disks will only put your computer back to the condition it came from the factory which is Vista.  Did you actually do an upgrade or clean install.  If you truly did an upgrade you should have a folder on your C drive titled SWSetup.  This folder has all the originally installed programs.  If you did a clean install and lost all the programs and the SWSetup folder then you may have lost these programs.......unless they are available at the HP website.  Go to hp.com and click Support and Drivers and enter your part number or model and you will find most of the programs and drivers are available for download.

  • Vista hotsync failed, desktop won't run

I had a Palm V for about 7 years and now have a TX that I got over a year ago.
I had no problems until I got a new laptop with Vista.  I've had problem come and
go (the desktop software would crash when I tried to view a month in the calendar)
with the desktop software, but recently when I'd try to print a calendar month
view, the software would start spooling hundreds of pages to the printer.  I
thought I'd uninstall and then reinstall the desktop software.  I did this, but on
the reinstall, the hotsync died while trying to sync the datebook.  I finally had to
kill the hotsync.  I tried running the desktop software and it crashes when trying
to launch.  Any ideas?  I'm close to tossing the Palm (after almost 9 years) and
just going to some PC-based software.  Will there be a new release of the desktop
software soon?  This wouldn't be as much of an issue if I was able to sync to my
XP machine, but that stop working after a started syncing to the Vista machine.
    Palm has betrayed my trust.
    Post relates to: Palm TX

Hello and thank you for using the Palm Help Forums!
I do apologize for the issues you are having. I am positive that they can be installed by doing a full clean uninstall of the Palm Software. Follow the steps carefully and make sure you do NOT have your Palm device connected to your PC during this process.
Well, let's start by backing up your data on your PC. If you use Palm Desktop Go to My Computer > Local Disk C:\ > Program Files > Palm > You should see your Username (whatever you named it) Folder in there. Right click your Username folder and Copy it. Then go to your desktop and Paste it. Also, right click the folder once again and rename it. It doesn't have to be completely different you can just at a "1" or something to the end. This way it is safe just incase if anything happens. Now we are ready to move on to getting Palm Desktop FULLY off your computer.
First, go back to the Control Panel > Add/ Remove Programs > Remove Palm
Second, Go to My Computer > Local Disk C:\ > Program Files > Delete Palm (sometimes PalmOne)
Next, Go to My Computer > Local Disk C:\ > users > [whatever username you use] > appdata > local > virtual store > program files > delete palmOne.
Now go to Local Disk C:\ > Windows > and delete hotsync (if it's not there don't worry about it)
Now you need to go into your registry and delete things. To get into your registry editor click Start > Run > type in Regedit.
Delete the following list of items (BE CAREFUL!!): *Side Note: Not all items will be in your registry sometimes so it's ok*
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File transfer
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource (or anything else that says Palm)
Close your registry and go to  http://www.palm.com/us/support/palmdesktop.html to download and install Palm Desktop.
I hope this works out for you and let me know if you have any further questions or issues.

  • WINDOWS 8, I finally am able to download iTunes, but it won't run the installer, anyone have suggestions?

    Hi!
I've finally figured out how to download iTunes on this crazy stupid windows OS, but when I click on the setup in my downloads folder, it won't run.  I've tried hitting "run as administrator" and troubleshooting and so far no resolution.  Is anyone else having this problem?  How can I fix it?? Please help, I am beyond frustrated.

    Hi angelxkisses,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It looks like you’re running into an issue downloading the latest version of iTunes on your PC. Try adjusting the Pop-up Blocker settings in Internet Explorer as shown in the article below.

  • Windows 8.1 won't permit the installation of Adobe Reader (install_reader11_en_mssd_aaa_aih.exe)

I am trying to install adobe reader on a PC running windows 8.1. I downloaded the file to install reader, install_reader11_en_mssd_aaa_aih.exe. However, when I try to run the program, and I've also tried "Run As Administrator" as well, it has a sort of OS notification in the form of blue banner most of the entire screen telling me that Windows cannot run the file. Initially Windows indicated the install was being blocked by Microsoft Smartscreen, a Microsoft anti-malware application. I thought de-activating Smartscreen would allow me to proceed with the install but now when I attempt to run it I get the blue banner with the message "This app can't run on your PC To find a version for your PC, check with the software publisher." I have also tried deleting the file and downloading a fresh copy of the installation program to no effect. Does anyone know of any possible solutions to get Reader installed on this PC?

    Thank you!
I had the same problem Aaron had but after using this link, it worked.   (although, I still got the message that windows can't run the file because windows smartscreen couldn't do...i don't remember exactly what. But after clicking ''run anyway'' it was fine.

I would suggest doing the following:
Disable all start-up programs in msconfig.  Restart the computer
Follow all the steps in this KB article to make sure all pieces of BlackBerry has been removed off the BlackBerry.
    www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02206
Once completed restart the computer and then go to www.blackberry.com/desktop to download and save the file the file and run the install.
Once the install is done, run the application still without the start-up items disabled.
