I wanted to check in to see if anyone is still experiencing pink lines appearing on the screen on G580 notebooks?
If you are, could you please post a picture of the issue?

You could try a reset and see if that fixes it : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If it doesn't then you could try restoring to your last backup and/or resetting back to factory defaults. But if it's a hardware issue then you will need to contact Apple.

  • I have a PB G4 that won't start. It shows the gray apple screen, shows the blue screen, and then the screen goes black, and "sleep" light pulses.

I have a PB G4 that won't start. It shows the gray apple screen, shows the blue screen, and then goes black. The sleep light pulses. From there, I can't turn it off normally. I have tried restarting the PMU. And I have tried unplugging the ac adaptor and removing the battery. From there I have plugged only the ac adaptor in, and it will begin to start but do the same thing once it shows the blue screen.
I tried only using the battery (without plugging in the ac adaptor) and the same thing happens. I tried starting the computer while holding down CTRL, Option, P, and R, waiting to hear the start up chimes 3 times, and then holding Shift as it starts up. But I still get the black screen once I see the blue one, and the computer's sleep light pulses.
I need something very important from this computer. And was able to start it last night. I did not shut down the computer, and was going to take it to a friends to use his printer today. The computer was in sleep mode in the morning.
    Thanks for any help!

What your describing could be a logic board or memory issue.
You did or did not hear 3 startup chimes?  If you hear 3 chimes when you start it, that would indicate a memory problem.  Try reseating the memory to see if that makes a difference. If you have 2 RAM cards, try one then the other in each slot. If you have 1 RAM card, move it to the other slot. Powerbooks can develop one bad slot.
You may need to pull the hard drive out of the Powerbook, put it into an external case, then read it from another mac.

  • Pictures taken with my 1D Mark IV show a blue horizontal line at the bottom from ISO 400 onwards.

Pictures taken with my 1D Mark IV show a blue horizontal line at the bottom from ISO 400 onwards. So far nobody has been able tot tell me the cause of this problem. The body is still quite new (15000 pics taken).

I agree that it looks like a column of photosites is not working.  But... I'm curious as to why this would only happen at ISO 400 or above.
The sensor is covered with photosites -- they are monochrome.   On top of the photosites is the "bayer mask".  The mask is a checkboard pattern of red, green, and blue "lenses" which makes the photosite beneath only sensitive to that particular color.  They are group in clusters of 4 photosites in a 2x2 matrix.  Two of the four squares (in opposing corners) are green.  One corner is red.  One corner is blue.  If you were to lose a column which happens to be along the red/green column (as opposed to the green/blue) then you'd lose red sensitive and half the green sensitivity in that column.  The result would be that this column is flanked by two "working" columns which are full of green/blue photosites... hence the teal blue look.
I do not know if this will work for you, but oddly... you can actually sometimes "clear" stuck pixels (but usually this is an indvidiual stuck pixel... not a whole column of them) by putting the camera into manual sensor cleaning mode (and you may have to do this 2 or three times).  While the normal point of the self-cleaning mode is to flip up the reflex mirror and open the shutter so that you can inspect and clean the sensor (really the front-most filter because you can't actually touch the real sensor), it also neutralizes the charge on the sensor (or so I've read).  This charging and discharging of the sensor a few times can often get "stuck" pixels to start working again.  BUT AGAIN... I've only ever seen this used on individual stuck pixels... never a whole row.

    king,
If your Powerbook's serial number (do not post it here) starts with "W8" then the vertical lines are mostly likely due to a defect in the display itself. W8 is a factory code and, during the iMac G5 and PowerBook G4 timespan, that factory shipped thousands of units with the same defect. It cannot be fixed via software.
As all PowerBooks are now classed as "obsolete," an Apple Store will not work on it. They will look at it ands tell you it has vertical lines and that they cannot fix it. This Apple article shows Apple devices they curently considered obsolete:
Vintage and obsolete products - Apple Support
It is possible that some Apple Authorized Service Providers (AASP) will still work on older computes but they cannot get neededparts from Apple. As this issue was so pervassive, it wil be hard for you or an AASP to find a used/pulled display that is not effected with the "W8 Curse."
Although I love the old PowerBooks, I would not even spent the money for disks, much less the US$150-400 it would cost to replace the display, even should one be available.
If you give us a rough idea of where you are in the world, we can suggest repair shops specializing in fixing older Mac notebooks, but be aware those resources may be rather scare outside North America.

  • Strange Blue Vertical Lines All Over Anything that White on the Screen

My screen always showed blue vertical lines on anything that is white on my Macbook Pro screen, but when I moved the screen back and forth a few times the blue lines just gone. It always happens when I took the Macbook Pro from a bag and waked it up and once and a while during normal usage. I took picture when the blue lines happen but I couldn't post it on the forum.
I sent my Macbook Pro to local Apple Center but they couldn't find the problem. They has checked the screen connector for me but the problem still exist.
Anyone, any idea what causing this?

Don't get me wrong and I don't think anyone like to have dead pixel, do you?
I understand the LCD screen could come with dead pixel. I can live with a few dead pixels and I have no problem except any dead pixel from USAGE. With the new notebook or LCD screen I have a choice to check for the dead pixel and other false before I take any of them back home and if there any dead pixel happen after I am start using them I can accept it.
The thing that difficult for me to accept is the replaced LCD came with the dead pixel (my previous screen didn't have any dead pixel) and I don't have any other choice but to accept it. I feel like I have been forced to accept it.
My perception on Apple product quality still good. I will continue buy Apple product. But I disappoint in Apple service policy (not quality as I mention before, sorry) because I expect they would be better or different from others.
ps. They changed my screen because they don't have a replacement only for screen cable so they replace the whole screen.

Hello, I downloaded an ntfs systemfile from tuxera and used it to convert a usb stick so I could put more than the fat32 4gb on, my Imac froze a while after so I turned it off the on and now I have blue vertical lines on boot up and the a white screen with lots of tine blue symbols after, mouse pointer moves but thats about it.
Have used R and cmd to get a menu up but once I choose one of the four options my mouse is rendered useless and I cant get any further, have downloaded, to another usb stick recovery disk assisstant and am trying to use that in conjunction with the lion option on the previously mentioned screen, computer was responding really slowly and has now frozen on the terms of software license agreement (maybe the last hurdle!) can anyone pleeeeeease help!!!!!??????

It's likely that the boot drive is failing, or that there's some other hardware fault. Run the Apple Hardware Test.
Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test
Even if the test is negative, you should make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested more thoroughly.

My IPhone 5c started showing up flashing gray lines after I updated it ***** does anyone know what to do?

    Hi RodNando,
If you are getting an issue with the display on your iPhone such as you describe, I would suggest that you troubleshoot using the steps in this article -
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    Specifically -
    Display image issues
This can include bright or dark pixels, lines in video, or sections of video missing.
Try turning iPhone off and then on again.
Verify the issue is not content related, by viewing different content.
If the image is too dark, adjust the brightness. In General Settings choose Brightness and Wallpaperand slide the slider.
    And -
    Issue not resolved
My issue is still not resolved. What do I do next?
    Contact Apple Support.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Qosmio G30: blue vertical lines and blue screen crash dump

    I have a Qosmio G30, Model No. PQG32C-AV605E with BIOS Version 3.40.
I want to update to 3.90 but I cannot enter Windows.
How do I update BIOS with no Windows available?
    Is there a DOS utility?
If so, please send it and I will download it or send me an email on where to download.
The G30 I have has blue vertical lines across the screen when the machine starts up in VGA mode upon entering Windows for the first time.
But the machine can't enter windows, it crashes and dumps and restarts before that.
I replaced the RAM with new RAM but it had no effect.
I ran the diagnostics utility and the hard drives are OPTIMAL in RAID 1 so no errors there.
The reinstall of Windows went smoothly: I just can't get into VGA mode without lines.
I was told by Toshiba tech support that a BIOS upgrade would fix it.
    Thanks for any helps.

I made best experience with Toshiba support. The ASP guys were always helpful
I can understand that you are upset but this is cannot be a explanation for you last replay
Fact is that you can update the BIOS ONLY running windows OS because you can download ONLY win-based BIOS!
If you are not able to do this (no matter why) then you will need to get in contact with local ASP (service provider) in your country who could update the BIOS using a traditional BIOS version.
But in my personal opinion the vertical lines are not related to any BIOS issue and I think a BIOS update would not help you in my opinion its more hardware issue as an software issue.
Therefore you should get in contact with an local ASP in order to discover what's part is affected.
    Good luck

  • My IPAD screen shows a bunch of lines then goes black

When I turned on my IPAD2 the screen showed a series of different color lines, then went black
It worked fine last night any ideas on problems.
I have a lock code on it, so I can't even get in to unlock it.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. If you're taking shots of just the moon then the exposure value won't change all that much day to day.  I recommend shooting in full manual, use the same settings that you used that gave you images you liked as a baseline.  Low iso, nice middle aperture, and adjust shutter speed to fine tune the exposure.  The next day you start at the same settings and adjust the shutter speed slightly if needed to account for a change in brightness.  Good luck, have fun.
