  • Hello, i have a hp pavilion dv5 laptop and my mouse has started to close tabs instead of open them.

    Product name:  HP Pavilion DV5
    Operating system: Windows 7
    No error message
Unsure about upgrades (my laptop constantly has a message about some update or another.  Every time I turn it on it starts to try an update)
Recently my mouse pad has begun to malfunction.  When I hover my mouse over a tab in an internet browser and click the tab to open, my computer closes the tab instead.  I have tried turning the mouse pad off and on again as well as restarting the laptop to try and resolve the issue.  I have tried clicking on different parts of the tab as well, making sure that I am as far away from the "x" as possible and the tab still closes.  Please help.
    Thank you.

It appears to problem with my mouse is isolated to Google Chrome.  Firefox appears to be working normally with my mouse.

    Hi,
You can only recover files/data have not be overwritten. Normally you have to pay for a software such as Getdata or service to recover data/files but there are some free products:

  • Recovery Does Not Reinstall Windows on HP Pavilion dv5-1127cl

    Hello,
Recently, I tried to do a factory reset of my laptop. I used the recovery partition by pressing F11. It ran through reinstalling all of the HP software but then would randomly shut off when trying to reinstall windows. I tried the recovery process over and over again and got the same result. The recovery discs are not available for my computer as well.
My product name and number: HP Pavilion dv5-1127cl
    Operating System: Windows Vista 64-bit
Error Message: Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation.
Any input on this would be good, I have been very frustrated trying to get this to work. You wouldn't think your recovery would fail, seems to be a very important option to the computer!

  • Pavilion dv5 2035dx - reinstalling after replacing hard drive

My hard drive in my Pavilion dv5 2035dx failed -every test imaginable and I could not get Windos 7 to load.  I purchased a replacement drive that is an exact dupilcate of the original Toshoba 500 and installed in my laptop.  I was not too concerned since I had created my backup disks and had them in my possession.
Well I put the system repair/boot disk in and everything went alon fine, until I was asked to put in my other disks. None of the other disks seem to have the information my notebook is looking for and I can not install the drivers or get the machine up and running. I've checked the HP website and can nt find a recovery kit.
I was unable to get to Windows on the old defective drive to and since I have replaced the drive, there is no restore poit to look for so I have to reinstall back to the day of purchase.  I need help, any suggestions on getting my notebook up and running again.

  • HP won't replace Pavilion DV5 AC adapter despite a ridiculously short lifespan

    Dear HP
I am writing this letter out of bewildered frustration with HP's tech support.  I bought an HP Pavilion DV5 in the summer of 2008, and by April 2009 my AC power adapter failed.  It started beeping, and didn't charge my laptop battery (the same symptom experienced by multiple others, if you do a search on google).  At the time, I phoned HP and because my laptop was under warranty they sent me a replacement for free.  I was irritated at the shoddy quality of a power adapter that lasts less than a year, but I was satisfied with their quick handling of the situation.
Fast forward to today.  My replacement power adapter (the one they sent last April) has started exhibiting exactly the same symptoms (i.e. beeps/buzzes when you plug it in, and it doesn't charge the laptop).  Just to make sure it wasn't my laptop, I borrowed a friend's charger and sure enough it works just fine on my computer.
I phoned HP tech support and talked to a very curteous person whose name I can't recall.  After collecting my information, he informed me that it would be a ~$90 charge to replace the adapter.  I explained that I felt this was unacceptable, because in addition to the downtime of not being able to use my computer without a power adapter, they were charging me for a part that failed way earlier than it should.  An AC adapter should last a long long time.  It is a very simple component where few things can go wrong.  Plenty of people I know with other brands of computer have had AC adapters last more than five years with no problems.  This repeated failure of HP adapters is a uniquely HP problem, and should be rectified with replacement parts to consumers.
I spoke to Gilles, the tech support supervisor, and he explained that he couldn't do anything but offer the part at full charge because of the constraints of HP's policy (i.e. it's out of warranty so I'm out of luck).  It turns out that HP uses a third party contractor to handle the phone work, so I asked to be transferred to someone at the HP office who would have more power and ability to handle the situation.
I ended up speaking with David at HP's Canadian head office.  He gave me the same line; the laptop is out of warranty so I'm out of luck on a no-charge or even reduced-charge replacement, and that just because the adapter didn't last as long as "I feel it should," that's not enough reason to provide a replacement without charging me full price.
This whole situation is absolutely ludicrous.  AC adapters that are well built do not last less than a year.  As a customer who has bought HP products for a long time, all it would have taken to reduce my frustration would have been to offer me a replacement adapter.  I understand the conditions of the warranty, but I don't understand HP's response to this.  I will not ever buy another HP product, nor will I ever recommend anyone buy an HP product, unless this adapter is replaced at no charge.  It is absolutely unacceptable for the company to manufacture shoddy parts and then pass the results of that shoddiness onto the customer.
I am still amenable to resolving this issue.  I have sent a version of this post to HP's general support email, but I wanted to put this out there publically as well so HP can step up and show everyone they stand by their products.  If HP stands by their products, they will send the replacement.  If not, then it speaks volumes about their practices.

Sorry but this statement is flat out not true, This repeated failure of HP adapters is a uniquely HP problem, and should be rectified with replacement parts to consumers.
as you mentioned, do a google search for yourself and youll find coutless axamples such as this....
    Adapter Power Cord Plug Failure
I'm coming up on my second anniversary owning a Satellite P105, and although I am very happy overall with the laptop I'm having one problem that is frankly getting quite old. During the 2 years I have had to replace the adapter power supply 3x due to faulty cord plugs. These plugs are straight and just don't survive. Tonight I noticed that my laptop wasn't charging and now I'm forced to find yet another one. I've spent about $150 so far on power cords and I'm getting tired of it.
For what it's worth the unit never leaves the living room and the unit is in excellent condition. I'm not throwing it around in my bag the way I am with this IBM stinkpad I'm typing this on.
So Im sorry but I dont feel your pain. Its been a year since you got the free one, get one cheap on ebay and move on with you life.

  • Pavilion dv5-1151 not starting.

Got a HP Pavilion dv5. It is about 5 years old.
Last Tuesday the AC Adapter started to heat more than usual. At first the laptop turned off and I waited for the AC Adapter to cool down and retry it and it worked. After reusing the laptop for another 30 minutes, the AC Adapter went very hot again and a small bang sound went from it (it died).
I got a new universal AC Adapter but the laptop won't start.
Symptoms:When I plug the new AC Adapter into the power jack, the light near the power jack turns on like it did with the old one, when I press the power button to turn it ON, nothing happens. My battery is long time dead but I tried it anyway. With battery and AC Adapter the light in front of the laptop (front left) is on, showing that the battery charges but when I press the power button to turn the laptop ON, that light shuts down and nothing happens.
    Any ideas?

You could probably use the dv5-2134nr without an issue. I'd really recommend you just call HP to order the factory restore discs.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp41501-42000/sp41698.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the link below.
    Chipset Driver - Windows Vista.
When the reinstallation has completed, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

I have this Pavilion DV5 1138nr Entertainment Notebook PC, and I also have a 23" HP monitor (w2338h). It is also connected through HDMI. Is there any way to fix this problem?
