Hi
Please check these documents and steps in them  and check for any blocks or any paper in the printer and it might be blocking the carriage movement....

Photosmart 6520 makes noise like slipping gears when printing. Printer is just one month old? Have Windows 8.1 OS.

    Hi @Zed0027,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that your HP Photosmart 6520 is making noises like the gears are slipping during printing, and I am happy to help!
For further assistance, I will need to know:
If the printer is located on a flat surface.
If there are any error messages displayed on the printer's display screen. Such as: Paper Jam, Carriage Jam etc.
If the power cable is plugged into a surge protector, or directly to the wall outlet. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
If you can see any broken parts in the printer when you open it.
If the ink carriage is moving freely.
In the meantime, please try a hard reset, please see this post, How to perform a Hard Reset by @Rich1.
Hope to hear from you soon!

  • How do you set up the eprint for the photosmart 5514? asking for a proxy to print from the ipad?

I have successfully set up my laptop to print wirelessly for the HP Photosmart 5514, but I am unable to print from my iPad.  The message that I receive when I select eprint is to enter my proxy.  Could you please tell me what step I must be missing?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi,
Most likely your printer does not support AirPrint. But please check to see if your printer in the list:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
If YES, you can use this to fix
    iPad: http://www.apple.com/support/ipad/assistant/airprint/
If NO you have to print using other apps (if applicable) such as

  • 5 year old HP Photosmart C4280 Printer is making a machine gun noise when printing

Connected to a Windows 7 DELL PC - suddenly making this dreadful noice - would replace it but I have a cupboard full of cartridges

    Hi there keithhumph,
Hmm, this could be as simple as a dirty encoder strip. Open panel door and inpect the interior of the printers components. Look for a clear strip that runs horizontally. This is the encoder strip and tells the print carriage where it is in relation to the casing. If there is dirt/ink/debris/etc. use a soft cloth to CAREFULLY clean the strip. Remember without this strip the printhead will bang around inside the printer USE CAUTION. Let us know if it helps.
    Best of Luck!

  • When opening certain webpages firefox makes a "Fwip"? sound, not sure how to describe it but it is rather annoying, what does it mean and how can I get rid of it?

Doesn't always do it, sometimes a webpage will do it when it loads, sometimes it won't, and sometimes reloading a webpage that makes the sound will require multiple refreshes for it to happen, while other times it'll happen every load. Did not have this sound before firefox 5.0 update.

I was having the same issue and discovered I must have accidentally toggled on an option of the NoScript addon I use. If you are using NoScript, click the little icon in the lower right corner and there is a toggle option named 'Audio feedback when scripts are blocked' (it's also be toggled on and off in the options menu of NoScript).
Hopefully this is also what is causing your noise.

  • Cartridge holder makes a sound like a machine gun when it moves to the right just before printing

Product is HP Deskjet 4440 all in one.  OS is Windows XP.
When the cartridge holder goes clear to the right just before printing it makes a loud noise like a machine gun just before it starts printing.  It prints fine.  But sounds like the cartridge holder is sticking and makes this machine gun like sound.

    Hi @gramdeb,
I see by your post that the carriage makes a loud noise when it moves to the right, but you can still print. I can help you with this.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Remove and reinsert the cartridges, to make sure that they are correctly installed in the unit.
I have provided this document for different areas of the printer to check for any obstructions or broken parts in the carriage path. 'Paper Jam' Message Displays on the Computer. Disregard the title.
Did you just change out any of the cartridges?
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
    Have a nice day!

  • Mac photosmart 5514 double sided / duplex

I got a new MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion 10.8.1
I've already installed the latest driver update from apple
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
and also checked the firmware on the photosmart 5514 for any update.
When trying to print from the mac (wireless), the option for double sided / duplex printing is always grayed out.
How can I enable this function?
Note: Product Name and Number etc which may be displayed along with this entry are incorrect. I couldn't find a way to change this. I had an windows hp pavillion and a deskjet before I moved to Apple.
    This question was solved.

    Hi,
The HP Photosmart 5514 (B111c) does not support automatic duplex printing but only the B111h model does.
You may perform manual duplexing using the Pages to Print option as listed below:

  • Must turn Photosmart 5514 off and on to print each job.

Why must I turn my Photosmart 5514 off and then on for each print job? It seems to have initialization problems.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @Koszul
I would like to help with the issue you are having with your Photosmart 5514, initializing after printing.
Please try the following and get back to me with the results and any error messages:
    Check and update the firmware:
Getting the Latest Firmware and Product Updates
    Power reset the printer:
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 30 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
Ensure the printer is plugged in directly to the wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors. This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help greatly.
Please try making a couple of copies from the front panel when the printer restarts, and try printing as well.
    Good luck

  • HP Photosmart 5514 all-in-one printer. Control copy function from computer?

I have a HP Photosmart 5514 whose touch screen is no longer working properly.  It doesn't recognize any selection at the bottom right of the screen.  I can touch any other place on the screen and it will respond.  Because of this I'm no longer able to copy or scan from the printer.  I can print from my computer as this doesn't involve using the touchscreen on the printer.  What I'm wondering is if it is possible to use my computer to control copying.  Is it possible to use the computer (rather than the touch screeen on the printer) to tell the printer to copy?

    Hello Junior2,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with the touch screen not responding.
One step that you can try is to please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
If this does not resolve the issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.
As for controlling the printer from the computer, the only thing that you will be able to do is print or use the scanning software to scan to the computer.
    Thanks for your time.

  • I can no longer print. I'm using eprint from my hp photosmart 5514.

I'm using wireless printing from my hp photosmart 5514.  I can no longer print now for some reason.  What can i do?

I want to make sure I understand your issue. Is the issue printing from your computer? Or is it sending ePrint jobs to your printers email address? What type of error message do you get when you try to print?

  • Print black and white only, on Hp photosmart 5514.

    Hi,
I dont like it at all that i have to contact support forums for something like this.
it use to be so easy to choose color or black and white printing.
Why have you made it so difficult ? Totally pisses me off but i leave that for the feedback section.
I have seen others with the same problem so it is not only me. now it has taken more than 20 minutes and i have to get to work soon.
So, how do I print black and white (or greyscale) using my newly bought hp photosmart 5514 ? ( is it smart ???)
I have been wasting a lot of ink now, very unsmooth not having it available in the ordinary printing window.
Like it matters, i use win 7 blablabla

I also hate that there is NO WHERE to find a simple answer.  I have a "HUGE" XL cartridge of black only.  Then I have to buy all the stupid little tiny color cartridges AND another little black cartridge.
Here I suppose: when I print in color, I use the color + small black cartridge.
When I want to print BLACK ONLY or GRAYSCALE, I choose that and it only prints using the XL big black cartridge.
WRONG.  And no one can seem to answer this correctly, t but I know it does not work.
Remove 1 empty color cartridge whole printer won't work, even if I want black print only.
If all the small "color" cartridges + small blk cartridge is low but the BIG BLACK cartridge is showing full, still won't print BLACK ONLY.
I cannot PRINT with this stupid printer unless all cartridges have ink and are inserted.  STUPID
I am now late to work simply because I cannot print a document PERIOD unless I have full color sitting there.
I just tried it multiple ways, grayscale, black only blah blah and it ALWAYS came out too- light, ie the sm blk cartridge was being used and it is admittedly LOW ON INK.  WHAT is the big black cartridge doing there, saying it is full and not printing "black only" or "grayscale"?
The only article I could find that halfway enlioghtened me to the problem was HP page stating that "black"  is never really black, to improve quality (thanks for making the decision for me) HP adds just a bit of color here and there to make black really black for paper quality paper.
SO SNARLING.  Going to *bay to get refilled cartridges so I can print in a week.  SNARL

  • Best way to create machine-gun effect

Whats the best way to do a freeze frame, and then have that frame flash like 5 times in 2 seconds before continuing on with the movie?

    Hi dmchord!
IMO 2 seconds would be too long to achieve a staccato effect like you describe.
2 seconds = 60 frames, or 12 frames per 'flash'.
Each 'flash' should probably be about only 2 or 3 frames long, which is about 1/10th of a second each. Select your still frame and copy it, then clone as many copies as you need to make the sequence.
If you just have them run one after another you will not see the 'machine-gun effect' you are after, they will just look like one long still, so you need to insert a contrasting break between each. You could create a still frame in black (or white, as long as it contrasts with the footage), and dice and slice that to pieces of 1-2 frames, and insert one between each frame of footage.
    Did that make sense?

  • HP D1600 making machine gun noise and poor print quality

    Hello.
Whenever I turn on the printer it makes a horrendously loud clicking noise like a machine gun being fired. It sounds fine during printing but the print quality is very low and it looks smeared. after printing the clicking resumes.
I've checked to see if there's anything causing a jam but can't see anything. I've also cleaned the paper feed and the cartridges and aligned the cartridges but it's still the same.
    Please help

Same engine as the CM2320 which means it has two motors on the right side and if one of them goes bad it will give the color bars across the paper.  To test just remove the right side cover and swap the motors since they are the same and see if the problem changes.

  • G510g sounds like a machine gun when it cycles

G510g sounds like a machine gun when it cycles.  Can't see anything jammed in the printer.  Seems to be behind the ink cartridges.
Prints just fine and doesn't make the noise when printing only when the cartridges cycle and stop

    Hi csterlin,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
When the printer makes the loud noise like a machine gun or the grinding noise, this is usually caused by one of two things. Either you have very small piece of paper caught under the carriage or it is due to a power issue.
Please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.

  • How do I send a printing job from a remote location to my photosmart 5514 printer

I have given my photosmart 5514 printer  an email address. I can print successfully using the wireless network in my house. What more do I need to do to have it accept printing jobs from my iPone or laptop when I am in another remote location?

    Hi,
You can send an email (including attachment) to its email address and it will print. Please note: it only supports the following format:
        Microsoft Word
        Microsoft PowerPoint
Microsoft Excel (HP strongly recommends that you preview documents in Excel before printing)
        Text files (.txt)
        PDF
        HTML
Images (bmp, jpg, png, gif, tiff)
