My HP photosmart 5520 series is printing yellow instead red

My printer is printing yellow instead of red. It is a HP Photosmart 5520.
Could you please help solve this problem?
Jill

Hi @Jill21
I'd like to help you with your Photosmart 5520. I understand the printer is printing yellow when it should be printing red.
Please use the following document to troubleshoot the issue; Fixing Print Quality Problems for the HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One and HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 5....
If the issue remains unresolved after following all of the steps in the link above, I recommend contacting HP. Don't hesitate to call, although the printer may be out of warranty, the cartridges could be in warranty; therefore, there wouldn't likely be a fee for the phone support. HP will, at HP's option, either replace products under warranty that prove to be defective or refund the purchase price.
They could even determine after troubleshooting that it is a problem with the printer, in which case they may offer you a discount on a newer model.
The number to call HP is 1-800-474-6836 for Canada and US, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
To find the “Warranty Ends” date, look in the following table for the date's location on each product. The date follows the YYYY/MM/DD or YYYY/MM format, where YYYY indicates the year, MM indicates the month, and DD indicates the day.
I hope this helps.

  • How to adjust Date for the HPBEA4E7 (HP Photosmart 5520 series)

Can somebody tell me how to adjust the date for my HPBEA4E7 (HP Photosmart 5520 series)?
For example, I changed the black cartridge yesterday and the printer tells me that I did that on 01/01/2015.

    Hi @PieterF3rd
Most of our printers have a setting in the Preferences menu to change the date and time, but it appears this one does not. On the front panel of the printer, touch the little wrench in the top tight hand corner to access the settings menu. In the Setup menu select the Preferences menu and check there, if it is not there maybe check the tools menu. From what I can see, the option is not there, but it certainly should be.
If you can't find the option, I would give us a call and express the issue to a phone professional. It is possible that that connecting the printer to a network and enabling the Web Services will automatically update the date and time, but this should be necessary considering not all customers have network access.
If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
    I hope this helps.

  • HP photosmart 5520 my new printer on photo printing keeps stating out of paper

my new HP photosmart 5520 will not print photos. It keeps flashing "out of paper, reload" when the printer is already loaded with paper single and several sheets. Is this a faulty machine that I bought or can it be rectified. I never had this problem with my previous Kodak printer. Could you please advise what can be done to remedy this or should I purchase another make of printer. Thanks Michael

    Hello shuter1,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I see you are having photo printing issues with the Photosmart 5520, it will not feed the paper. Will the printer print on regular 8.5x11 paper?
What is the paper type and size you are trying to print these photos on?
See if following the steps outlined in this guide will help: Printing Photos Saved on Your Computer or Memory Card.
I will look back for your reply.

  • HP Photosmart 6510 series network printer will not print black after changing cartrage

HP Photosmart 6510 series network printer will not print anything that is black or has black in the picture after changing cartridge, all other colors are working properly after changing. Does not look like any damage to the cartridge or the insert where you plug in the ink. The well where the ink pad and the cartridge meet is damp with black ink. So not sure what is going on

Hello dinger57 and welcome to the HP forums!
I understand since changing the black cartridge the black ink has not been printing. I'm sorry to hear this, but I will definitely do my best to lend a hand
I will suggest that you start with following through this Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages document. If the issue persists after that can you please let me know what country you're in and whether the printer is in or out of warranty? Thanks! Please feel free to private message me the country information.

  • Photosmart 5520 - Black not printing on some things

My 5520 has been fitted with new cartridges and all work except the black.  Strangely, black (or at least grey) writing prints on the quality/print report and the cartridge shows as full when this is checked by the on screen request.  However, the print report has a completely blank rectangle under the 'black' heading.  I have followed all the usual steps but I am confused as to why I get black printing but no black on pictures.

HI , Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I understand that you're unable to print black on your HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One Printer. I will certainly do my best to help you. I would try the steps within this guide, Printer Prints a Blank Page or Does Not Print Black or Color Ink for the HP Photosmart 5520 and Deskjet Ink Advantage 5520 e-All-in-One Printer Series.  Solution one: Use genuine HP ink cartridges HP recommends that you use genuine HP ink cartridges. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP ink cartridges or refilled HP ink cartridges. If you do not use genuine HP ink cartridges, the steps in this document might not resolve print quality issues.Visit HP SureSupply to check ink cartridge compatibility or purchase replacement ink cartridges.Go to the HP SureSupply website.Scroll to the bottom of the page, and then make sure the country/region location is correct.Follow the on-screen instructions to order new ink cartridges or check ink cartridge compatibility with your printer.Genuine HP ink cartridges can also be purchased from other retailers. Solution two: Check the estimated ink levels, and then replace any low or empty ink cartridgesLow ink can contribute to poor print quality. Follow these steps to check the estimated ink levels, and then replace any low or empty ink cartridges. Step 1: Check the estimated ink levelsFollow these steps to check the estimated ink levels. From the home screen of the printer control panel, touch the Ink icon (). The current ink levels display.Figure : Example of estimated ink levels NOTE: Ink level warnings and indicators provide estimates for planning purposes only. When an indicator shows low-ink levels, consider having a replacement ink cartridge available to avoid possible printing delays. You do not need to replace ink cartridges until print quality becomes unacceptable. If none of the cartridges are low on ink, you do not need to replace them yet. Continue to the next solution. If any of the cartridges are low on ink, continue to the next step to replace them.Step 2: Replace any low or empty ink cartridgesFollow these steps to replace any low or empty ink cartridges.Video of replacing the ink cartridges The following video demonstrates how to replace a cartridge.  If you have trouble viewing the video or to view the video in a different size, click here to play the video on YouTube. If the product is off, press the Power button () to turn on the product. Otherwise, ink might leak from the cartridge. When you remove the plastic wrap, the paper label on the top of the cartridge tears slightly, which is necessary to vent the cartridge.Remove the orange cap from the cartridge. Twist the cap counter-clockwise until it snaps off.Figure : Remove the orange cap from the cartridgeWith the nozzle and the contacts facing down, push the cartridge into its slot. Press down on the cartridge until it is firmly seated. Make sure that the color icon on the cartridge label matches the color icon on the slot.Figure : Insert the cartridgeRepeat these steps to insert the other cartridges.Close the cartridge access door.Figure : Close the cartridge access doorStep 3: Align the printer Follow these steps to align the printer using the control panel. From the home screen, touch the Setup icon (), and then touch Tools.Touch the Down Arrow (), and then touch Align Printer. The printer will align automatically. Press OK to continue.Solution three: Make sure that the ink cartridges are properly vented and seated correctlyIf the vent on the top of the ink cartridge is clogged or obstructed, the ink cartridge might not work properly. Follow these steps to make sure that the ink cartridges are properly vented and seated correctly.Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already turned on. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before continuing.Open the cartridge access door. The carriage moves to the access area.Figure : Open the cartridge access doorPress the tab on the front of the cartridge inward to release it, and then pull up on the cartridge to remove it from the slot.Figure : Remove the cartridge from the slotExamine the vent area on each cartridge, above the HP logo on the top of the cartridge.Figure : Vent area on the top of the cartridgeIf the cartridge still has the orange pull-tab attached, pull to remove it.Figure : Orange pull tabIf the vent is clogged, use a straight pin to gently remove excess adhesive from the vent.Figure : Clean the clogged vent with a pinClogged ventWith a straight pin, gently remove excess adhesive from the ventUnclogged ventWith the nozzle and contacts facing down, slide the cartridge into its slot. Press down on the cartridge until it clicks into place. NOTE: Make sure that each cartridge is installed in the correct slot. Match the shape of the icon and the color of the cartridge with the slot that has the same shaped icon and color.Figure : Reinsert the cartridgeRepeat these steps to inspect the vents on each of the cartridges.Make sure that each cartridge is firmly in place in its slot. Run your finger along the top of the cartridges to feel for any that are protruding, and if any are, press down firmly until each cartridge snaps into place.Close the cartridge access door.Figure : Close the cartridge access doorTry the print job again.Solution four: Clean the printheadFollow these steps to use an automated tool to clean the printhead.Make sure that plain white U.S. letter or A4 size paper is loaded in the tray. From the control panel home screen, touch the Settings icon (), and then touch Tools.Touch the Down Arrow (), and then touch Clean Printhead. The product cleans the printheads, and then prints a test page.Review the print quality on the test page.Figure : Example of the printhead cleaning test pageIf the print quality on the test page is satisfactory, return to the current print job.If the print quality on the test page is unsatisfactory, perform a secondary cleaning of the printhead. If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes after the last cleaning stage to start the first stage of the cleaning process over again. NOTE:  Never turn off the printer when ink cartridges are missing. Make sure that you replace any missing ink cartridges as soon as possible to avoid print quality issues and possible extra ink usage or damage to the ink system. To avoid issues that require cleaning the printhead, always turn the printer off with the Power button on the printer itself.Solution five: Service the printer Contacting HP for service in all countries/regions except Asia Pacific. If you completed all the preceding steps and your product still has an issue, service the product.First, go to Check your product warranty to check your printer warranty status, and then go to Contact HP Support to find an authorized service dealer or to schedule a repair.Repair fees might apply for out-of-warranty printers. NOTE: Keep a print sample that shows the problem. If the ink cartridges, printhead, or printer is replaced under warranty, the support agent will request the print sample. If the printer is returned to HP, the print sample must be returned with the printer. Place the sample in the output tray when you package your printer for shipping. What you can do, is use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:
    Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your
    contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click on: HP contact options - click on Get phone

    Hi,
Try rebooting your router by unplugging its power for 30 seconds.
Once the router is up make sure to reboot the printer as well.
If you still cannot print after those steps you may try resetting the printing system:
*Be aware that resetting the printer system will remove any existing print queue and reset any customized driver settings.
Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences .
    Select Print & Scan.
Right-click (or Ctrl + click) your product in the Printers list in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system .
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type your user Name and Password .
Click OK . The printing system resets.
Now click the Plus sign, select the printer and try printing again.
As the issue only appear over the network please let me know your router brand and model if the issue persists after completing the steps above.

  • Photosmart Plus B209a not printing yellow

My Photosmart Plus B209a doesn't seem to be printing yellow. First thought was a blockage, but having changed the cartridge as it was low anyway, it's still not printing yellow. Any thoughts?
    This question was solved.

Problem now solved, just needed to clean the printhead. I always thought the printhead was part of the cartridge, so by changing the cartridge I'd changed the printhead. Turns out that isn't the case!

  • Officejet 7000 E809 series not printing yellow

I've just replaced the yellow cartridge & now the printer does not print yellow! I've run align & clean  & I've replaced the cartridge with a second new one & still no yellow printing.

If the printer is out of warranty one thing that might be worth a shot is soaking the printhead...
    1) Get a pan and put 1/2" of very hot (not boiling) water in the bottom.
    2) Next remove all the ink cartridges, then remove the printhead assembly.
    3) Gently put the printhead nozzles down in the water and let it soak for five minutes.
    4) Remove the printhead and gently dry the electrical contacts.
    5) Put the printhead back in the printer and then reinstall the ink cartridges.

  • Photosmart 5520 AIO not printing

The printer belongs to my daughter.  I just found out that she ran out of ink 3 or 4 months ago and put the printer in the closet.  I received it over the weekend, bought new HP cartridges and am trying to get it to print.
The black won't print at all.   The blue is very blurry, as is the yellow.  The red seems to be ok.  My guess is that whatever ink remained in the cartridges dried out and won't let the fresh ink through.  I have run the "Clean Printhead" a number of times and not solved the problem.  I have looked through many posts and do not find a similar one.
    Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

  • Photosmart 3210 won't print any pink/red colors

Suddenly for no apparent reason, my Photosmart 3210 All-In-One just stopped printing with either the light or dark pink ink. I purchased brand new HP ink cartridges but no luck. The other colors are all working just fine.

OK now this is weird  My Photosmart 8250 is doing the same thing.  Photos have a greenish color to them no red.  I created a jpeg with a Red bar, a Green bar and a Blue bar saved it to a usb drive.  Plugged the usb drive in the printer.  The blue and green bar are fine, but the red bar prints as yellow.
Printing from the usb drive eliminates any and all driver issues.  The print test and head cleaning all are fine.  I followed HP procedure to reset the printe     Replaced all ink cartridges. Nothing has helped.

  • HP Photosmart 5520 Unable to communicate with printer

I have had a HP Photosmart 5520 for a few months that I am NEVER able to print wirelessly from Windows 7 PC's after it has been sitting idle for a period of time.
When the printer is first powered on everything works great.   I have two HP Win7 laptops that will both print to it with no issues.   However, if the printer has been powered on for some time and I try to print from either of these PC's, I get the "Unable to Communicate with the Printer"  message below from the printer software running on the PC.
However, the printer appears to be working fine on the network for every other debug test I do while it is in this state.  For example, if I open a command shell on the same PC and ping the pinter IP, it responds just fine.  I also put the known IP address in a browser window and the printer serves up the status page with no issues.  The status page confirms the IP address is correct and says that everything is working fine from a connectivity standpoint (see pics below).  Still, it won't print.
If I simply turn the printer off and then turn it back on, all pending jobs are printed.  Any subsequent jobs that are printed also print w/o issue.  However, if the printer sits idle for a short period of time it is right back in the same state!  Please help, this is very frustrating!!
The behavior is the same if I (1) let my router DHCP server assign an IP address, (2) configure the DCHP server to always provide the same IP address to the printer MAC (which it was doing anyway), or (3) configure the printer to use a static IP address.
I am using a Netgear WNDR3700v2 wireless router firmware v1.0.0.36 (the latest).   Details about the printer, printer firmware version, printer network setup can be found below.

I changed two settings related to WLAN inside my router (see detailed feedback below).   I doubt that they will have an impact,, but will report back with what happens.
The reason I do not think it is related to the connection to the printer is becuase when it is in a state where the PC can't print to the printer, I verify the connection is OK by pointing by browser to the ip of the printer.  It works just fine....
The reason I don't thing there is anything set up wrong on my PC is because when it is in this "bad" state, I can simply power cycle the printer and the jobs stuck in the PC print spool all go through.
    1.  Set a static IP in the printer (see step 6) outside the DHCP range of the router (check your manual).
Previously tried (still configured this way)
    2. Verify in the printer that 'Auto Off' is disabled.  Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) by going to the
printers IP address in your browsers address bar, click  Settings Tab/Auto Off.  Or use the Printer
        Assistant, Printer Home Page (EWS).
Previously tried (still configured this way)
In the router:  (Refer to your router manual for information)
    3. Use a fixed wireless channel like 1,6 or 11, never 'auto', try channel 1 first then the rest.
    Changed this.
    4. Set router to 20Mhz only, or 145Mbps depending on router.
I don't know what this is.  Is it related to the Wireless throughput? (I have 2.4Ghz bans set "up to 54Mbps", 5Ghz band set to "up to 300Mbps")
     5. Always use WPA2-AES (Personal) encryption, but you can try ‘mixed’ mode.
    Already using this configuration
    6. Disable WPS and never use it and disable UPnP for the routers security.  Nobody can hack your
system now and helps with wireless connectivity (if you want to know why, search the web).
    Already using this configuration
     7. If you have a dual band router (2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz bands), make sure the SSID’s are NOT the same,
they must be different for all bands, even for any Guest networks.
    Changed this.
    8. Save all settings.  Power off both, wait 5 mins.  Power on router wait 3 mins.
    9. Power on printer and verify it reconnects to router.
Windows 7/8/8.1   Is Network Discovery on or off?

  • Photosmart 5520 not printing black

As with many others here, my HP Photosmart 5520 is not printing in black.  Have gone through all the HP troubleshooting, as well as the steps on the forums, short of disassembling and removing the print head.
Replaced the print cartridge twice with genuine HP 564 and HP 564XL, checked the cartridge vents, and have run the clean printer head clean utilities 10x, including turning off, waiting several hours, and going through the process again.    It still won't print black, and the print quality diagnostic "black" box is completely blank, or has a few faint gray lines.
Printer warranty expired 1/2014.  Was a HP customer for life, but now am very frustrated.  This is the second HP printer in a row that has failed soon after the warranty expired, and with the exact same problem.  My printer's info is below.  I am in Beaverton, Oregon, USA

    Hello @GeoffWampler,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are running into some print quality issues on your HP Photosmart 5520, you are unable to print in black ink.
You have exhausted the steps here: Printer Does Not Print Black Ink or Color Ink, or Prints Blank Pages, with no success.
Please note: There are three printhead cleaning stages. Complete all three stages if necessary. If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes after the last (third) cleaning stage to start the first stage of the cleaning process over again.
I suspect the issue may be the printer and not the cartridge. I highly recommend you call our technical support at 800-474-6836, I trust they will be able to assist you regardless of the warranty status.
