My hue/saturation filter quits working in Photoshop CS3

I keep having this issue where my hue/saturation filter just quits working. I use that filter religiously so it has to be fixed each time it occurs. I've only had the Adobe CS3 for 3 months and I've had to resolve this 3 times now. Each time this has happend I've had to uninstall the entire CS3 design package and do a complete reinstall which takes almost 4 hours because my download uses the Adobe server. My product download was purchased online so I do not have a disk but rather files that I downloaded from Adobe with product serial numbers.
I've used Adobe for years, as far back as Adobe 5, and never had such a problem! I've checked in my preferences and have ample RAM available for the settings. I use Dell inspirion and have 2 GB of RAM total on my system.
Can someone please advise why this would keep happening.

Resetting your preferences is much faster than uninstalling/reinstalling, so if you haven't tried it, that would be what to do next, although it would be nice to figure out what the issue is.
To reset your preferences hold the Ctrl-Alt-Shift keys down (windows) or Ctrl-Option-Shift keys down (mac) as you start up Photoshop. You should get a message confirming whether you want to delete the preferences file. If resetting preferences fixes things, then you should try to remember what you've been doing, just prior to having the problem.
Once Hue/Sat sliders seem to be disabled, are they still way for all images that you open (a JPG for example), or are they just messed up for one image, but you need to work on that image so you have to fix things before doing anything else? Hue/Sat is not a valid operation for certain modes, like Grayscale, although the menu item is disabled in this case.

The hue/saturation filter window does open and it is not grayed out. However, it does not allow me to do any thing to it. I try to slide the saturation to the left or right and it does not move. The same goes for the "Lightness" and "Hue". I don't understand why it will work for a month or so and then just quit. I end up rebooting my system to try and resolve but unfortunately once this occurs it seems to be stuck no matter what I do, that is until I unstall the entire program and reinstall...
So if I need to change something in my preferences, what do you suggest that would be? I appreciate your help, thank you.

I can not get the oil paint filter to work in photoshop CC

Can anyone help me with getting the oil paint filter to work in photoshop CC. I have a high end gaming card for video but it still does not seem to be available. Help. please!

Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer Bug in Photoshop CS6

I noticed that most of the time I cannot copy a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer in Photoshop CS6. (In about a third of all cases it works, in all others I have to create a new Hue/Saturation adjustment layer).
Hitting Command + J will cause my Mac to make an error sound.
Option + delete also doesn't work half the time.
Also: I cannot do a "Stamp visible" above a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. Hitting Command + Option + Shift + E will bring another error sound.
I have to creat a new layer, and then create a stamp visible. But half the time this doesn't work, either. Hitting Command + Shift + N will give me another error sound.
I have to create a different adjustment layer, then an empty layer, and only then I can create a "stamp visible".
Only Hue/Saturation adjustment layers are affected by this - but it's a true hold-up.

What Mac? What version of OSX? That aside, your issue sounds too exotic to be a genuine bug. Sounds more like some specific combination of settings is preventing this. could be anything from blending tricks to color profiles...

Apologies for the brief and cryptic question. Frustration.
This is a TIFF file. Originally it was a RAW image that had a preset applied in ACR, then a black and white preset layer added. Then a couple small edits with contrast, plus an unsharp mask and high pass, completed with the flattening of the image and finally saved as a TIFF.
I believe it may have been the flattening, but when I close the image and reopen it it only has one layer. I can go in and edit this reopened image in a new brightness/contrast layer, but hue/contrast seems dead. Unless I colorize the image.
I have a hue/contrast preset I like to use as well, and if I add that preset when the TIFF is reopened hue and saturation can be manipulated.
Your question is exactly the one I have been asking. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your initial response.

What is the system configuration, on which you are saving the files, i.e. to internal SATA II disks, or maybe external FW (or USB) disk?
Early SCSI rigs were notorious for corrupting files, if everything was not perfect. Then, there were few SCSI utilities to troubleshoot all the various settings. Nowadays, this sort of problem seems to occurr most often with USB externals.

Displacement filter not working in Photoshop cc

I just downloaded Photoshop CC and was trying to use the displacement filter. Photoshop freezes every time I try, and when I open the Task Manager the message Displacement Failed appears. When I end that task the program will unfreeze, but I still don't get to use the displacement filter. Any suggestions?

I have lots of available drive space. The install had reset to C drive for
the cache. C has about 1GB free space.
Preference setting
    cache levels - 4
    History states - 20
    GPU - Advanced
                    - everything checked except 30 bit display
RAM allocated - it reset the level at install to 8.8GB. I just increased
it to 10.5GB
Scratch Disc Config - At install changed to C drive only (~1GB available).
I just changed the order to my SSD with 107GB free as primary and another
drive with 1722 GB free as secondary.
I checked and I am using the 64 bit version of Photoshop.

Oil Paint Filter not working in Photoshop CS6?

Ok, so I have had PS CS6 for a couple of months with no problems. I downloaded the oil paint filter, but to use it i needed to update my GPU drivers, so I did and it started working. Last week, i noticed that when i attempt to use the filter, it says that need to have the box in the preferences section saying 'enable graphics processor' checked. before it was previously checked. Now when i go to it, it is greyed out because of an 'error' in my display drivers. I reinstalled my display drivers but it did not solve the problem. For some reason it is still greyed out. I know that my GPU meets the requirements for using oil paint, it was working fine before so why has it decided to stop working now?
I have not removed any parts from my computer so it wouldn't have affected it. If anyone could help me on this issue then i would be extremely grateful.

You haven't installed the Photoshop updates -- you should be on 13.0.3 or 13.1.1, not 13.0.0.
Oil Paint uses the GPU, and requires a decent GPU.
Your GPU doesn't support many of the features needed by the Oil Paint filter, and barely supports any of the GPU features in Photoshop (notice that it does not support OpenCL, or Normal or Advance mode for GPU drawing).

My compound paths have quit working in photoshop CS6

Can you be more specific? Are you unable to subtract one path from another, for instance? How are your Options bar settings? Do you have path operations set to subtract? Do you have the same workpath selected in the paths panel? I like to click off the workpath, and back on it to start the next subpath, after setting path operations appropriately.

AutoFX Dreamsuite won't work with Photoshop CS3 in Windows 7 64 bit??

I've obviously posted this question with Auto FX tech support, and am awaiting an answer.... however, wondered if anyone here is successfully using Auto FX "Dreamsuite Series" software as a Photoshop plugin in Windows 7... or Windows 7 64 bit OS?
If so, did you have to do any fancy footwork to get it to work? My Auto FX shows up as a filter in the Photoshop / Filter dropdown list... but when I click on it, nothing happens!! I tried the Windows Vista workaround posted on Auto FX's site...but this has no effect.

There are a lot of 3rd party filters that don't work in 64 bit mode. Open PS in 32 bit mode and see if it works.

Doing pro work in Photoshop CS3 with the MBPro santa rosa

I am so used to 23 inch monitors ( have 2 hi end G5 and corresponding monitors) i fear the tiny MBP (relatively speaking) screens. Do you Phsop users find difficulties doing work on photo images with the laptops?
I realize the compromises and im not looking forward to them but would like to have some feedback from users who do this often and do they get the same results they would if they were using their own desk tops?

as you move the top forward or backward the screen lightens/darkens and im not sure if this affects your final image. I personally cannot and have not worked on images ever with the PISMO except simple cloning or cropping. It was used for simpler tasks.
I have moved the screen of the Srosa in stores and not noted too much of a change in brightness. What are your experiences?

Wow. Forums seem to be having some issues this AM.
I have not travelled abroad with mine. My sister has.
She recently was on a trip to Japan and next month is off to Costa Rico and somewhere else. Forget where... memory isn't what it used to be lol.
I believe the dimensions of the 17" being 2" wider diagonally result in a weigh increase of about 1.4 lbs. That difference could mean a little or a lot depending on what else you are packing and how far or how long you are hauling it. That is definitely a very personal thing.
I know my sister looked very long and hard at the 15" and in the end decided the extra weight was worth the trade-off, but I could see how others could decide otherwise.
If it helps put it into any perspective though she is 5'3" and mid-30's. So we are not talking about a physically huge person carrying this around. I believe she packs it all in a Lowepro Vertex 300 AW bag.
I don't know if that lends any help to the question, ultimately it is all very personal decisions which only the buyer can decide.

Eraser not working in photoshop CS3

hi, i was just doing things and normal and i went to use the eraser and it did not erase instead it keeps painting this white instead of getting rid of what is in the layer :/ i restarted my mac to see if that did anything but it did nothing ... and now i cant do anything as my eraser just seems to paint on a color instead of getting rid of the desired bit. i hope someone can help me with this.

Try unchecking Erase To History in the tool options bar.

What is the Premiere equivalent of the HUE/SATURATION adjustment layer found i Photoshop ? I am trying to slightly desaturate (about -53%) my movie to give it a more gritty look. I could easily get the look I wanted in Photoshpo by going to NEW ADJUSTMENT LAYER-->HUE/SATURATION.
Is there a similar approach for Premiere? In the Video effects folder somewhere? Thanks!

I use Image Processor from Bridge all the time to run actions on folders of photos. Suddenly, it just quit working. Photoshop opens, but the dialogue box never appears so nothing happens. Help!
