My humble opinion about Droid X vs Droid Incredible

I had a chance to try out a Droid Incredibile for three days. I prefer the Droid X for several reasons:
On the X I can place any phone contact on any screen and use either a widget or an apps. With the Incredible you are limited to "favorites" only and limited to nine. I see no way to set up another "favorite" on another screen..
You are limited to what widgets you can set up on your Incredible. It must be a completely blank screen or else such widgets as FM radio will not go on.
Sadly, the Incredible does not have Swype, which I use all the time on my X.
You can not set up vibration only for notifications.  You can only wake up your Incredible by tapping the power button, with the Droid, you can also tap the home button to wake it up.
Finally, On the X, if you are on the very left screen and wish to go to the very right screen, you swipe and tap on the three buttons and your there. On the Incredible, you must swipe the whole way.
None of these are very big deals, I grant you. But they are minor irritants
Oh, don't get me wrong, there are things I wish the X could do like the Incredible. For example, the lock bar is so much easier on the Incredible to open up. The manner in which you delete a widget/apps from the screen is so much more easier on the Incredible than on the X.
As far as bars, and this IS a big deal. With the X I get 3g and four bars at home. with the Incredible, I get 3g and only two bars. Gladly, it doesn't interfere with calling or talking.

You can place shortcuts on any screen to about anything, including a contact. You don't have to use the Favorites widget.
Only a few widgets are full screen size. Some of them offer two different sizes.
You can get the Swype beta for Incredible.
Vibration only for notifications: Goto Volume in Sound Settings and turn the volume all the way down for notifications. Make sure the Vibrate option is on.
Wake up button: Correct, and I like that way. The "home button" or any other front button is too easily pressed while in a holdster or pocket.
Moving to another screen: Pinch zoom any home screen to see minature versions of all screens to pick from.
Besides the above, is there anything else you like better on the X? How does the camera and camcorder operation compare? And the resulting photos/video? Does the size of the screen really make a difference? I'm asking because I just got the Incredible, but have 30 days to switch to the X if I want.

  • Why isn't there blogs for the Droid X2 and Droid 3?

Thats it.....Both phones are important parts of Verizon's line up and have been out for a while......

I can see the logic with the Droid X2 as it's similar to the outgoing X other than the dual core processor and higher res screen. The Droid 2 and D2 Global were facelifted versions of the original Motorola Droid, with higher clocked processors and better keyboards. All the hard points were the same as the OG Droid, especially under the back cover, battery placement, SD card etc. were nearly identical to the original Droid.
The Droid 3 isn't similar to the Droid 2, it's a completely new device. The phone is larger, slightly thinner and shares no part of its design with the D2. The screen, keyboard, guts, all of it are new. I think there should be a dedicated to the D3 for that reason. Just my humble opinion.

  • Security Flaw discovered in Droid 2 and Droid X

    Read about it on UnWiredView.com
    http://www.unwiredview.com/2010/10/15/verizon-motorola-droid-2-and-droid-x-security-flaw-discovered/

    Is it working now?
If it affects more than one phone, there may be an outage in your area.

  • What is your opinion about IDEs?

I've heard different opinions about using IDEs like Jbuilder, Symantec VisualCafe, Microsoft J++...
Some people think that to program in java using a simple text editor is a prehistoric and a very hard way and they prefer using IDEs.
Other people think that IDEs are not good tools to program in java because they add a lot of unnecessary code and because you have more control for the code if you program all by yourself. These persons maybe think that the only utility of IDEs is their help.
I would like to know all your opinion about this.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I think it depends on the context if one may use an IDE or not.
There are 3 things to be considered:
    1) processor speed
    2) application type
    3) lazyness
    ad 1:
If you want to use an IDE, you must have a powerful processor.
In fact, all major JAVA IDEs are written entirely in JAVA.
So a Pentium 3 or K7 and faster processors are advisable.
    ad 2:
When you write servlets or small text based applications with only a few classes, an notepad like nedit for UNIX systems is in fact the best solution.
A huge JAVA program with many screens (SWING or AWT) for instance cannot be easily developed with a small editor. Here an IDE should be considered as a must.
(Unless you are really a hardcore Java specialist)
The same approach can be applied to bean development.
    ad 3:
IDE come with many pre-constructed classes and concepts. Developing a client/server or multi-tier application can be an easy task if you spent some money on an IDE.
Other advantages of IDE are built-in tutorials and programming enhancements (when you type the name of an object the IDE shows you immediately all its methods for example). So if you are a beginner or one of those people that thinks that a programm cannot be done without development platforms like Microsoft Visual XXX, JAVA IDEs are a logical conclusion.

  • Droid DNA vs Droid Bionic

I miss my Droid Bionic already. I've upgraded to the Droid DNA by HTC. I was worried about my move from Motorola to HTC and now I'm sure, the design of the Droid DNA is not worth the change. The non-replaceable, small battery is point one. No HDMI out is number two. The USB port on the bottom of the phone instead of the side is incredibly inconvenient, not to mention the phone does not do landscape while in the makeshift cradle I had to buy. Only 16GB of RAM with no SD or SDHC card slot is the clincher... Does Verizon want us to stream everything?  I will keep this phone, mostly because I promised my old Droid Bionic to a coworker, but I will forever be unhappy with it. VERIZON - Fix these issues in the next release!!! There is no reason this unit didn't at least have a card-slot and more memory. I've been with Verizon and Motorola for more than ten years. I can tell you all now, this may change in the future. When Sprint 4G hits my area then I will have options.
Yes, I did check out the specs on this phone before buying it, so I was ready. What I didn't expect is how much these issues would come to mean to me. I have very good eyesight so the gorgeous screen is a plus but if you can't use the phone as a clock, or personal sound system, because of no quick convenient stand like the Motorola brands, then it's an expensive and semi-useful paperweight on it's side.
So... for anyone thinking of buying a Droid DNA to replace their Motorola Droid I say WAIT! Hopefully Motorola/Google will get their act together and put out a decent phone. For me the increase in speed and the display was not worth the hassle of a complete paradigm shift.
If you have another HTC phone and your're used to it's specs, then go ahead and try it out!

Update... First, please forgive the grammar and spelling mistakes made in my previous post, it was made in haste.
Two more days and I'm frustrated beyond belief with this phone. I've now tried three cradles, and none of them are sufficient. I really want this thing to automatically switch into landscape and request a mode when placed on its side in a cradle. I've also desperately tried to find a small and convenient QI charger, there are none to be found. I can't stand my phone laying on its back where I can't see it. It's terribly inconvenient to be forced to pick up the phone to check every call and/or text message. Furthermore, a message to Verizon about bloat ware, JUST SAY NO! If I don't want games and NFL stuff on my phone, then I should at least be able to remove it. The only way these issues are going to be addressed is if the users, otherwise known as customers, start speaking out and let Verizon know what is, and is not, acceptable. I plan on becoming very active in these forums so my voice can be heard...

  • Differences?  Droid X  vs Droid X 2

I have the Droid X  works fine and learning everyday  Very impressive
What am I missing?  Do I need to upgrade?

About the only difference is that the Droid X2 is the dual core. Other than that, they are pretty much the same. I also have the Droid X and really like it. I am using Gingerbread and have had no problems with it (yet!). Should you upgrade, depends. If you are eligible, check out the HTC Thunderbolt, the Droid 3 and a few of the others. As for any of the Iphones, it all depends upon whether you are interested in an opened or a closed system. I should also mention that I am very careful in my apps downloads. I read all the comments and never download one which has less than 4 stars.

  • HELP!!! Droid X or Droid Incredible???  I'm aware of shipping date on DINC... but.....

Okay - so I went to my Verizon store almost 2 wks ago and spoke to the rep we had worked with in the past regarding getting rid of my BB Tour (worst BB ever IMHO!!!) and was told (quietly) to hold out until the new DX was released on 7/15.  When I got home, I checked out the DroidX and was completely enamoured with Droid and totally over Verizon even getting the iphone (gasp - esp now that I've seen how awesome android is and heard about all the problems w/ the iphone4) ~ but I also noticed the HTC Droid Incredible and seemed to like the screen and size.  So again, I went into my Verizon store to see if I could get my hands on both to see what I wanted to do.  I've been waiting VERY patiently w a crappy phone just waiting for something to come along that I'd be happy with.  I was really set to just go ahead and order my DINC but the rep I normally work with wasn't there and the mgr had referred me to another rep.  Very nice guy but really talked up the DX and I was really quite impressed.  The ONLY thing I HATE about the DX is the SIZE!!!  Now, I understand the screen itself is huge, but honestly I didn't fit into my pocket and sometimes I like to put it into my front pocket.  I also didn't like how square it was.  On the positive side thought, it is going to blow the iphone away.
So, I guess here's my dilemma (sorry it's taken so long to get here) ~ do I go ahead and order the DINC since the size is more along the lines of what I'd be comfortable with or just say forget about the size and just get the coolest phone on the market (not to mention Motorola makes pretty good sounding phones)???  Essentially, what are the differences between the two phones?  I know DX has the HDMI, while that is a cool feature, I am not concerned about that - the DINC has the cool amoled (sp?) screen, but that seems to be what's holding up the backlog of phones.  I was told that if I ordered the DINC it would take 4-5 wks.  Can someone give me any advice?  I have small hands and the DX feels like I've stepped back into the 80's with the brick cell phone.  I can't seem to find the differences between the two phones and maybe if someone could tell me that, I could make a decision... do I wake up early to wait in line on the 15th or not????  I don't want to get the DX and then not really like it a couple months later (like the BB Tour) ~ ( I am going to also post this in the Droid X forum )
    Thanks!!!

Thank you all for your help - I read everyone's comments this morning and decided to go to my Verizon store and order the incredible after all.  I made my hubby come with me because he usually gets my sloppy seconds when it comes to electronics (hehe) and he said that even with his big hands he couldn't see himself  using the DroidX, especially since he's not really a techogeek   He had a hard time adjusting to the BB Tour cuz he felt it was too big!!!  It was funny when I was in the store placing my order, the sales rep I had spent over an hour with the other night said he thought I was going to come in to order the DINC and he whispered that it's a decent phone overall (afterall he IS a salesperson right? of course he would try to sell me the best and new phone).  The manager I was speaking to before the sales guy Chris I was working with kinda made me angry because he acted like I was foolish for wanting the DINC... I am hoping that all the people that have already ordered the DINC will cancel to get their hands on the DX and make mine come in quicker
In regards to going to Amazon or Best Buy (our Best Buy didn't have any either) to order, I've decided that I would hold out since I've been waiting for awhile anyway.  Besides, if something was wrong with the phone or I didn't like it after all, I could go back to my VZ store and pay a restocking fee and get a different phone a lot easier than returning it to amazon.
So like the rest of you that are waiting, I've joined your little cult... I'll be waiting patiently...  unfortunately size does matter in this case LOL!!!!

The fact that the DX has 720 vid & HDMI are very cool features, but not a deciding factor for me.  One thing I couldn't compromise was size unfortunately size does matter in this case LOL!!!!
@E-Brock - The Tour I believe is not even being sold anymore, in my heart of hearts I wanted a touch screen phone and at the time BB only had the Storm and we are all well aware of the horrible reviews that phone got.  So a salesguy talked me into the Tour.  I have to say I do like the keyboard on it but really hated the track ball (I had a Pearl before that) - now they have the Curve or Bold with the touchpad type joystick, if I was going to do another BB that's what I would get (actually I'd get the violet curve - I am a chick afterall ) they seem to move very well and easy to navigate, the screens are nicer than the Tour as well.  My Tour I've had to hard reset numerous times and battery pull more than necessary.  I think BB's are nice phones and I've always had great reception, but my tour was very slow for the internet. Hope this helps!! Good luck!!!

  • Problems migrating contacts' phone numbers from droid HTC to droid 4.

Hello- Advice please. Just bought Droid 4. Set up FB and Gmail accounts with no problems. Contacts migrated from Droid HTC. EXCEPT contact's actual phone numbers. Anyway of getting these numbers back? Thanks!

that's one of the reasons i use backup assistant, for folks with phone numbers & no email from way back, before the upgrade to the droid x in dec '10.
if the numbers were in ba, they should be there. i've used ba for years without any problems.
ba won't do a backup if a contact is in gmail contacts.

  • Opinion about installing the EPM 11.1.2.2 version

    Hello guys!
In our company we are changing our servers to better one and we need to proceed with a fresh installation. We have installed today the 11.1.2.1 version and we can say that this version is stable (actualy we have some SR on Oracle about some issues we've found). We have FR, IR, Essbase, WA, Planning,.. tools. Has anyone here installed the 11.1.2.2 version in a production environment? What is your opinion? Is this version stable? How about planning? Because some consultants have said that planning has issues...
    Please... any adivice?
    Rafael

The big thing to remember with Planning for 11.1.2.2 is that there is no more business rules as Calculation Manager is now the only way to create and manage them.
A recommended approach would be to migrate to Calc Manager in 11.1.2.1 then upgrade to 11.1.2.2 - this is less risky as there's less things that could go wrong ;-)
I know personally that lots of FR bugs were fixed in the patch sets up until the latest one ( i think 11.1.2.1.124). I'd stick with the patched version of 11.1.2.1, unless there are some features you need in 11.1.2.2 - as always make sure you read the readmes and known issues:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/nav/portal_8.htm
I also know there's a few bugs with SmartView and formatting which will annoy users if they have to use it ;-)
    Cheers, Iain

  • Droid X vs. Incredible

Sure, I know the ifferences in Specifications between the two but as a person who needs a new phone, looking for a Smartphone for the first time, is eligible for New Every Two I am trying to decide.  I can obviously with the online discount and NET can get the Incredible for $99.  I am wondering if I will be able under those circumstances to also get the X for $99...   If so, should I go with the X?
I'd be obviously using it for Phone and Text, social media, streaming radio and video (MLB At Bat)...  Opinions?

The X will also be $99.  If you buy online.  In stores it will be $199 but you will be able to get the $100 rebate.
DROID X has slightly better Stats.  HD video capture is a cool feature and HDMI out is also.  Incredible has RCA outs but the cable has yet to surface even.  As to the HDMI being worth anything or not, think of this in a couple of months this will have Froyo with Flash and that opens up a lot of movie rentals and streaming video in HD.  For those of us without a high end computer or top of the line video cards that can be useful.  Plug it in or put it in a cradle hook it to the TV and play movies and what not even check e-mail texts whatever else on a large screen.  Maybe worth it maybe not that is up to you.
Large screen large form factor light weight decent battery supposedly but I gotta think that on a phone like that 1500Mah battery will need to be replaced.  A larger battery will be available that only adds 1mm they say.  Incredible also needs a battery also adds 1mm to the phone.  Both are cool both are fast one is freaking huge the other is normal sized.  The incredible uses sense UI slightly modified but still nice, the x uses Motoblur modified and not quite as obtrusive (apparently even Motorola figured out that blur was an eyesore). My assumption of that is you get some of the added features of blur without all the ugly clunky graphic UI stuff that made it such a uh success (laughs into his sleeve while faking a cough).
