My I Mac just won't back up ??!
I'm trying to back up my new iMac to an older time capsule. But it just won't do it. The error reads: "Unable to complete backup. An error occurred while creating the backup folder". Can someone tell me what this means and how to fix it please??Time
Since you say it is "an older Time Capsule," have you searched for online and installed all the needed Firmware Updates for that unit from the Apple Support site? If not, I would start there.

SimonI suspect the Seagate is not formatted to be used with the Mac. The correct format would be Mac OS Extended (Journaled), if you just bought the EHD then almost certainly it's formatted to be used with MS Windows machines. This is easy to fix, here are instructions on how to format it:

After formatting Time Machine http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427 will launch and will begin backing up. The first backup will take some time however after the first backup it will go pretty quickly.
NOTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After formatting all data will be erased, so please if you have data on that move it to the internal HD first and then format. Then once you have backed up you will have a backup copy of the data. Also NEVER EVER use a backup disk to be used to store data. The reason being is if that drive crashes you have not only lost the data you have lost it's backup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -

Help Me! No Mater What I Do My Mac Just Won't Start Up
I have a G3 and G5 Mac. On my G3 I have been getting problems. It started when I used a classic application. Classic acted strangely then quit I restarted my computer and I got the folder with the finder icon that turns into the question mark and back again. I tried holding Option in startup, the startup disk page came up, but there was noting there, but blue. Then I put in my Mac OS X startup disk and it didn't show up either. After about 30 seconds it was spit out. Then I tried my classic start up disk and it didn't show up on the startup disk page. I tried to eject the disk, but it won't come out. What can I do to fix it? If nothing else how can I get my disk out?

This means the mac could not find an operating system. I could be that your harddrive has gone bad.

I suggest you poweroff your mac then try this.
While you can click on the curved arrow to have the firmware rescan for bootable devices, I have found that this doesn't always work. I suggest you power off your machine then powering on while holding down the option key to find any new bootable devices.

Recently got a new iPod Touch 4th gen; I had previously backed up to iCloud and subscribed to iTunes Match, and then wound up syncing the new iPod to my MacBook Pro; all iCloud tunes were downloaded to Mac but won't all sync to the iPod after multiple attempts, despite all songs showing properly on the Mac and multiple syncs occurring after all songs were properly reflected on the Mac. I updated iTunes Match from the iTunes Store menu as well pre-sync.
I should mention that I had previously had the library on a Dell (which is still running) and shared it on my home network. While all iTunes purchases now show in the Dell, the Mac is the device I use for all syncs.
There appears to be no rhyme or reason to the iCloud physical sync failure - some songs were legacy, some were purchased via the PC, some on the old iPod.
The Mac shows all the songs correctly and none show iCloud status -all have been downloaded, but the downloaded songs that were previously showing up as iCloud based aren't syncing to the iPod.
Is there any way to force all music being seen by my iPod as iCloud to download to so I can listen to them offline? Is there a way to force the sync from iTunes?The "system" performed as designed. All devices syncing to one iCloud account are kept in common sync. The idea is that all such devices belong to one user. Different users should have different iCloud accounts. Once your contacts were edited, all devices were updated as well and subsequent backups (from yours and her device) reflected the changed contacts (and any other data that may have been edited like calendars). Your first task is to change your daughter over to a new account before she makes other changes.
The only way I see for getting back contacts is to restore them from a time machine backup, assuming you also have a Mac included in the account which syncs the contacts. However, I'm not sure whether time machine includes contacts from iCloud along with those that are local, "on my Mac".
Otherwise the deleted contacts are gone. -
I recently bought some songs from itunes, and I tried to sync my mac air laptop to my nano ipod, but it didn't work. I usually use my PC computer to do this, and my music is in the itunes library on my mac, it just won't sync to my ipod. When I tried to sync my ipod to my PC to see if the computer was the problem, my recently purchased songs still didn't show up. Any ideas as to what to do? Thanks!

This is not a reply. I just want to elaborate on this problem.
My computer freezes occasionally when it is used after being sleep for a while. The spinning ball appears and everything is totally disabled. Nothing on the keyboard works.
The mouse moves, but does not work.
The only solution is to turn the power off and on (losing all data in open applications.)
I kept the System monitor running on the side to find out which program was running when the computer froze. The Monitor as well as all other applications froze, but the data showed:
Firefox 18.4%
Activity Monitor 0.9%
Firefox Plugin 0.2%
This is all the information I have. By the way, I am using iMac with OS 10.6. -
I have a 13 inch Macbook Pro. I have bought it just 5 months back. All of a sudden, i am unable to turn the mac on. It doesn't even get Charged. What could be the issue ?
If you're unable to turn it on, let alone even charge it then it definitely sounds like a battery issue to me. I'd wait for someone else to reply just to be sure but I think somehow the battery by the sounds of it must have died. However, I could be very wrong.

Did you burn the CD as an audio CD?
If not, that's your problem. Otherwise, without more details I can only guess. You might try a different brand of disk, or if you're using CD-RW try CD-R.

Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitirion & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions. -
I received some great replies concerning my increasing the RAM on my laptop. From the information gathered I was able to gather more information and am curious as to what and if there are more steps besides the ones I've listed below:
1. Power off
2. Take battery cover off.
3. Remove battery cover.
4. Remove battery.
5. Remove 3 screws.
6. Remove L bracket.
7. Remove RAM(2 sticks of 512MB).
8. Install new RAM(2 sticks of 1GB).
9. Insure the new RAM is snug into the slot.
10.Reverse the process.
Now at this point do I just power it back up or do I need to perform some other type of action.

Tq1Just turn it back on. The MacBook will automaticly recognize the new RAM.
If the MacBook doesn't turn on the RAM may not be the right speed for a Mac. Macs are very finicky about RAM. Much more so than PCs. The way to test that would be to put one of the old RAM sticks back in one slot and start up. -
