My i Mac keeps spitting out any CD inserted whereas before it worked fine. Why?

My i-Mac keeps spitting out any CD when I try to play or blank CD when I try to burn. Has previously worked fine. Any suggestions?

You'll find that the none of the files are stored in .cda files. These are simple shortcuts to files on the CD-ROM. These files do not actually contain in audio information.
If they work ok in your Windows computer why don't you convert the data to a more transportable format such as MP3 and get them onto your Mac that way.

  • My CD keeps spitting out

So I noticed this about a week back. Whenever i insert a CD it goes in reads it for a while then spits it back out. After i try some more times the CD will not even go in. I bought a lens cleaning disk and when i insert that it reads it perfectly but still other CD's keep spitting out. I know i should send it for repairs but is there any way i can not do that and fix it?
    Thanks

The drive accepts discs but they do not mount or are automatically ejected
Check the disc's surface for scratches and dirt, since these things can prevent the disc from appearing on the desktop.
The MacBook Air SuperDrive is designed to be used with MacBook Air and Mac mini computers that do not have a built-in optical drive. For best results, connect the MacBook Air SuperDrive directly to the computer's USB port instead a USB hub.
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).
Ensure your drive can read the specific type of disc being used. The System Profiler or System Information may provide additional information regarding what media your computer supports.
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard or earlier: Open Apple System Profiler by choosing "About this Mac" from the Apple () menu. Then, click More Info.
OS X 10.7 Lion or later: Open System Information by choosing "About this Mac" from the Apple () menu. Then, click System Report.
If the disc continues to not be recognized, contact Apple, an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store for additional troubleshooting, evaluation, or service.

Sounds like the optical drive may be on it's way out. It should be possible to connect the Mac to one of the others by firewire and do the installation by booting from the install disc in the donor Mac, then choosing the remote HD as the target when prompted.

  • My disk drive keeps spitting out my dvd that I'm trying to brun a slideshow on.

My disk drive keeps spitting out my dvd that I'm trying to brun a slideshow on. Why is it doing this and how can I fix ASAP?

You usually go all the way into the Burn process until it says "Insert a blank DVD now", THEN put in the DVD.
If you put the DVD in early, Mac OS X looks at it, decides it is blank and therefore useless, and spits it out.

  • My harddrive is full due to 17k of pic in my iphoto. I am trying to copy them onto a dvd and then will delete most of them, but when I try to burn a  group of events it won't work. ,y Mac just spits out the blank DVD.

My harddrive is full due to 17k of pic in my iphoto.
I am trying to copy them onto DVDS then free up the space on my HD by deleting them.
When I try to burn a few events at a time, but my Mac just spits out the blank DVD-R.

How much space do you have left because maybe the system is unable to cue the burn because is needs to write some data to the hard drive before burning the DVD-R.  Download OmniDiskSweeper, this program will give you information on your files and folders and give the opportunity to delete some files.  If you have a external hard drive you can just copy your files to the hard drive then delete off you main hard drive.

  • My mac keeps asking for my WEP key to get on the internet why?

my mac keeps asking for my WEP key to get on the internet why? And where can i find it

It's referring to the MAC password that you have setup.
A software prompts for a password only when there are restrictions set on the user account for unauthorised access to system files and folders.

First of all, why did you say yes to Nero Back up before researching what it does with files already on the HDD? When I install Nero, the Back Up is the first thing I disable, it is a nagging pain, there are much better backup programs available. There are several file recovery programs out there to recover deleted files, that is, if that is what happened. Also, if you haven't overwritten the files, so you should be able to find them.

Since upgrading to OS X Mavericks I have not been able to work on any MS Word tracked changes documents (works fine if no tracked changes or comments in the doc). Every time upon opening such a word file with tr.changes the word processor closes / crashes.
What can be done in this case?

I just discovered that by turning off in tracked changes balloons in Word preferences prevents the software from crashing, but from then on I need to use only the review pane.

  • I HAVE A MAC NETWORK WITH A HP LASER-JET AND EVERYTHING IS WORKING FINE.  I ALSO HAVE A WINDOWS BASED MACHINE THAT I WOULD LIKE TO PRINT TO AS WELL.  HOW CAN I ACCOMPLISH THIS?

I HAVE A MAC NETWORK WITH A HP1200 LASER-JET AND EVERYTHING IS WORKING FINE.  THE PRINTER IS CONNECTED DIRECTLY WITH ONE OF MY MAC-MINI"S.  I NOW HAVE A WINDOWS BASED PC AND WOULD LIKE TO PRINT TO IT AS WELL.. HOW CAN I DO THIS?

Make sure that you Printer Sharing enabled on the Mac Mini.   System Preferences > Sharing > Printer Sharing
Do the same on the PC
On the PC, try downloading and installing Bonjour Print Services for Windows v2.0.2
Run the application on the PC to see if it will discover your printer and install the printer.

  • My PowerMac G5 will not read my Leopard disc, dual layer dvd, how do I force boot from UBS DVD drive to install?? Or is there another way. It just keeps spitting out the disc!!

I have a power mac G5. Ir originally had Tiger on it. When I reinstalled for some odd reason the disc decided to install Panther, no clue why!! Either way I got a hold of a Leopard disc for this computer. It is apple certified and bought from Amazon and works for this computer.
Hoever, for some odd reason it keeps spitting it out. Discs under 4.7 GB is reads fine but the bigger discs it wont seem to read. What I need is to know how to get, or force, it to boot from an extrenal dvd drive. Or any other methods to get it to install.

I do not believe you can "Upgrade" directly from the "Panther" installed on your computer to "Leopard".  You have to have at least "Tiger" installed already Before you can install Leopard.  Thus your Mac is not recognizing the Leopard Install disk.

  • Macbook keeps spitting out DVDs

My macbook has worked fine, DVDs were just working.  Then I shut the macbook to pause a movie, and now it won't read DVDs anymore.  It keeps the DVD in for about 30 seconds, can hear it working, but then it spits it out.  Doesn't matter which DVD.  Any ideas?

The first step to potentially fixing your Mac’s SuperDrive is checking the disc you’re trying to play for scratches or dust. Try to put a few different discs in there and see what happens. If all of them get automatically ejected, there’s one more thing you can try.
Get your hands on a CD/DVD drive cleaning kit. These are sold in stores like Staples and Best Buy, usually for a price of $10-$20. It’s nothing elaborate – just a disc with microscopic brushes that clean the laser inside your SuperDrive. It’s fairly common for particles to get in there and disrupt the laser. Insert the cleaning disc in your Mac and it will start spinning before likely getting ejected on the first attempt. Put it in a few more times to repeat this process and then try a regular CD or DVD. If all goes well, hopefully your SuperDrive should be back to normal!
Some users have said to see if its working at all. Turn the computer on its side with the slot drive facing up and then insert the disk. See if the computer reads it then.
You can go through a variety of steps as well that apple will walk you through such as resetting the PRAM and other items.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

  • Super drive keeps spitting out discs

Hi, my mum is trying to burn photos from i-photo library to a disc. The i-book keeps spitting it out. She tried another disc and it spit that out too. She even tried playing a disc thats worked on it before and it spat that out too. It isn't showing the disc on the desktop. It did accept the original blank disc once after several tries and started the burn but then spat it out with a message that said something about burn failing because it couldnt calibrate the laser or something.
Any ideas would be welcome. The machine is less than 3 years old, and doesn't get heavy use. Its rarely on the internet so probably hasnt had any updates since I did them when I visited last January.

    Hi there:
Given the computer's lack of use (online, or in general?) a certain amount of
preventative maintenance could be done at about any time, and alleviate a
chance something is acting up in the system; and it isn't a hardware issue.
Things such as starting up in SafeBoot (shift key held) then log in to the Mac,
then run Disk Utility and have it 'repair disk permissions' and restart. This is
not a fix for a specific problem; but is part of a general background action a
Mac running OS X could find some help from having this done. I have and use
OnyX from Titanium Software (download, runs free - is a donationware) to
keep on top of various background maintenance routines otherwise not done.
There is a curious and almost desperate (yet it works for some users) answer
to the situation where discs eject and don't work; and I found this idea from a
search, after a bit of reading: "A fix for my superdrive problems" - & comments:
    http://bura-bura.com/blog/archives/2005/07/11/a-fix-for-my-superdrive-problems/
A computer kept in top condition and updated, sometimes finds new issues in
some update or upgrade, but if the issue can be isolated and troubleshooted,
one can learn if this is hardware based or software based. And, if the computer
has the optional AppleCare Plan (adds two more years) repairs may be covered.
The superdrive may be defective; even if not used much. Or, it may be a simple
issue in the software. See the link above, for a novel and voodoo-like cure!
    Good luck & happy computing!
