If it's frozen press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time until it powers off. Then power it back on and proceed.

I was having trouble purchasing candy crush updates (for no apparent reason, as it has been fine previously).   I thought perhpas I needed to download some new software and promptly started the IOS 6 update.   It installed and then asked me to complete the final few steps by signing in with my apple id.   When I try to do that it says "it cannot connect to the server".   I have tried turing it off and on and over riding it, but it won't let me do anything at all now on my ipad mini.
Can anyone help?   I literally can't function!!!!

You can't override it no matter what you do. The device has to connect to the server to complete the iOS update. You could try rebooting the iPad and see if that lets you connect to the server after it starts up.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that will not work, you can try connecting to iTunes on your computer and see if the activation will complete. Sometimes when thes activation issues arise, you end up having to restore the device again, but first things first. Reboot and see what happens.

Hi, My friend has just updated there 3GS to IOS6 and once it's done, 2 screens appear. first one says, Update complete, there are just a few more steps to take. Press continue and another screen comes up with the itunes symbol and the cable and says connect to itunes. Once plugged in, on itunes it reconises the phone and has the loading symbol up, but it doesn't loads anything and can't press anything. Anyone know why and how to resolve this?

When I tried to update to os6 on my iPad2, it says "Your iPad was updated successfully, but when I hit "continue" the bar turns blue, but nothing happens. I powered off and restarted, but nothing changed.

The Continue bar at the bottom turns blue momentarily, then back to white. Nothing happens. I powered off and back on, still nothing. Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. The screen will go blank and then power ON again in the normal way.] It is app and data safe!

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you've already tried a complete uninstall and reinstall try opening iTunes in safe mode (hold down CTRL+SHIFT as you start iTunes) then going to Edit > Preferences > Storeand turning off Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases. You may find iTunes will now start normally.

I did disable the security (AVG and Zone Alarm) when I tried on my own PC. My wife's laptop which eventually got it working also uses AVG and Zone Alarm but on an XP O/S whereas my PC is Vista - maybe this is why.

I found a way to get to my data. So do not need remedy at this time.
fwiw, I changed my ios7.04 setup answer of restore from itunes to new iphone. Eventually that allowed me to set up icloud, then turn off find iphone, restore. Very strange ios update.

Can anyone help please? Backed up Iphone 4s to icloud and received the replacement one. So I am trying to restore from icloud. Unfortunately, the phone tells me that the IOS system (showing 6.1.2 required) is incompatible and so are the previous 3 backups... I dont have the laptop to hand in order to backup to itunes either. I'm guessing I cant set up as a new phone, get the latest IOS system update and then restore the backup from icloud... or can I?

On your new phone: Settings>General>Software Update. Once done: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. You'll now be able to use your backup.

Updated Ipod, but now it says to connect to power source & I lost the cord

Ipod Mini shows a picture to connect it to the external power source. I have the adapter, but not the right cord anymore, is there a way to bypass this? I can't use the Ipod at all it seems like until I do this.

All older iPods that required this step were supplied with a power adaptor as standard. What model iPod do you have? Since you are posting in the mini forum we must assume you have that model so you should've got a power adaptor as a standard accessory. If you didn't, you need to contact the seller to ask why.
The newer iPods that don't require this step after a restore, don't have the power adaptor included any longer as standard.

Regarding iMessage. Was working fine but now it says the recipient is not registered. So it will not send the message. But the person is registered. Could send them a message yesterday.

While backing up my iPhone 4 with iCloud, it stated the update was completed, but I had a few more steps to follow. This is where I messed up. I hit continue and got stuck to choose a network. I have Verizon, so when I selected Other, I got stuck!

I was backing up my iPhone using iCloud. It stated the update was completed and to select continue. Now I have to choose a Network??? I am with Verizon, not Wi-Fi, even though we have Wi-Fi for my laptop. Selecting other asks for Network Name and Security. I am lost! I cannot get out of it!

Assuming the phone isn't jailbroken, the basic steps (as needed) are:
Restart phone (you already did this)
Reset phone
Restore phone in iTunes using a backup
Restore in iTunes as new, without using a backup

If your phone is jailbroken, this is the most frequent cause of the problems you described. Restoring could permanently brick the phone.
Note that your iOS is old and the current version is 4.2.8. It's odd that it wasn't updated when your activated your phone in iTunes, being that you got it last Friday.
