My i-phone wont activate after a software update

I was given a phone in the UK and brought it to Egypt. In order to get it working with an Egyptian sim card it had to be unlocked. I wanted to add some apps but a number would not load saying the os was out of date. So I decided to update it as recommended. Now it has completely restored it back to factor settings which I wasn't expecting and didn't want. It does not recognise the sim card ITunes says there is no sim card in the phone and the phone itself keeps saying it could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable. So now the phone is completely stuck and useless. What can I do

If it was not unlocked by the carrier it was originally locked to, it was 'hacked' to unlock it.
ONLY the carrier it is lockd to can authorize unlocking it.
If it was hacked to unlock it, then upgraded to 5.1.1, it may very well be a brick now.

Safari wont start after Leopard software update

After updating Leopard to 10.5.7, Safari wont start. I get an error message "Cant load Tastyapps AV plugin." or something to that effect.
What gives? anyone know?

I was using Videobox as a trial version (on the site you have the option of buying or trying for 30 days). After the 30 days it stopped working and I just moved it to the trash. I seems to have left something in Safari however that causes it to not want to start.
Using Firefox i was able to go back to the Videobox site and download and install the trial version again. I was then given the option of installing the Safari plug in which i did. I then went to the Videobox menu and clicked on uninstall Safari plugin. and then i just moved videobox to the trash again using AppCleaner.
So, you should be able to do the same thing. Just click on "download" instead of "buy" on the Videobox site. I'm sorry, I couldnt find the plugin files for manual deletion either.
Maybe you should start a new thread and someone will know how to do that.

My Iphone wont activate after the latest update was installed, even when connected to Itunes it just say disconnect and install sim card, even though there is a working sim in the phone, any help would be gratfull.

99.9% of the time, the cause of this issue is the fact the phone was jailbroken/hacked to unlock it for use on networks other than the network the phone was originally locked to. Apple maintains a database of officially unlocked iPhones, and when Apple's servers detect phones such as yours, activation stops & you get the message you got.
So, you need to get a sim card from the carrier the phone was originally locked to, or get it officially unlocked, if you want to activate it. Because it appears that it was not officially unlocked.

You contact the carrier it's locked to and see if they will unlock it for you. Activation problems are almost always due to the fact that the phone was hacked to unlock it instead of being legitimately unlocked.
Of course, this can also happen if you're trying to activate it without a SIM in it. You can not activate the phone without a SIM.

Hi, I'm having the same problem as crystalfromsaline.
The handset advised me to upgrade 5.0.1 so I did and now it wont sync to my mac?? It's detected in iPhoto but not as all in iTunes. The handset still works fine.
I'm currently using Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and have the latest version of itunes.
Hope this is enough info, any help you could offer would be much appreciated.

Okay, that means with the latest iOS software, it requires the latest version of iTunes on the computer. Which computer OS platform are you using. Now you are saying that after downloading the latest version of iTunes that your iPhone is not being recognized by iTunes? Completely different thing, and the iTunes on the iPhone has nothing to do with that anyway. The iTunes on the iPhone is just for purchases.
If you are having trouble with the iPhone being recognized by iTunes, use the appropriate link for your computer OS for assistance.

I was having the same problem, I backed up my phone and then updated to iOS 5 and then it kept telling me it could not restore from my backup as it had failed. After reading a bunch of forums and posts and trying everything, I did manage to get it to work. I had tried the Time zone, creating a new computer user account, disabling anti-virus, etc.
It took a combination of things, one of which was disabling the anti-virus completely and copying the contents of the backup folder to my desktop and then deleting everything in the backup folder. Then I rebooted the PC, entirely disabled the anti-virus, copied the one backup I wanted to restore from the desktop to the backup folder and then trying to restore. Low and behold the phone said restoring from backup and I am back in business, so when in doubt, trying combining some of the fixes together.

i have many pictures, messages, contacts which are very much important.

Macbook will not boot up after running Software Update (Couldn't fix it)

I also have been experiencing some problems after running Software Update (Security update + Java) a couple of days ago. Similarly to Jandaf (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9000023) I have only the gray start up screen + Apple logo + gear wheel constantly rotating. Based on the information provided in this forum I have tried some procedures which didn't solved my problem so far. Below I describe I have tried:
1) I have booted using the installation DVD and run the disk utility. When performing the First Aid/Verify Disk I found some errors ('Invalid node structure'). But I couldn't fix the problem using disk repair (same problem 'Invalid node structure' 'Volume check failed'.
2) I also tried to boot in single user mode (command + s) to run fsck -fy. It didn't work. I got the following message (last 4 lines):
CSRHIDTTransitionDriver::probe: -s
CSRHIDTTransitionDriver::probe: booting in single user .. do not match
Extension "com.apple.driver.AppleUSBTCKeyboard" has no kernel dependency.
Extension "com.apple.driver.AppleUSBTCEventDriver" has no kernel dependency.
3) When trying to boot in safe mode. I got a grey screen with the following message:
'You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the Restart button".
4) I also tried to 'Archieve & Instal'. Again no success. After reading the DVD the action is terminated because some errors (does not specify).
5) I also tried the 'German Medicine' (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8728797#8728797) (i.e. Connect the 'problematic MacBook' to my old G4 via firewire and reinstall the 2009-001 update). Again no success. The G4 cannot mount the MacBook hardrive.
I don't know what to do any more.
A) Can I resuscitate my old system? If yes how?
B) If not, can I at least save the data I have in my old HD?
C) Is it possible to format and reinstall the OS or is this this computer doomed?

Due to my lack of knowledge I can't judge how bad this is. But I can tell you that every time I read the word bad in the log it scares the s*** out me.

And by the way, this is apparently a common problem and Apple has completely failed to warn in advance or offer a quick straightforward solution - used to be a good company, but it's becoming just another crappy screw-the-consumer corporation.

It would help to know versions here. I'm guessing your update put an older version of something into a place where a newer version of something iTunes put in there existed. Updating an earlier OSX version to 10.6.8 is still only updating to system software that was issued several years ago. If you are running some slightly newer version of iTunes issued subsequent to 10.6.8 and you just updated to 10.6.8 you may have put in an older version of something iTunes uses. Anyway, I'm guessing here until we know exactly what you did.
