My i-pod classic won't show in itunes after a restore

Have you been in this situation where your iPod classic 80 GB was appearing in my computer as generic volumes in drive C/H: and your iPod was showing connected, Starts synchronizing when iTunes open up, then tells you it cannot read the contents of your iPod, Go for restoring and after restoring it tells you that it can not be restored as there are files that are used by other application. I have tried all the methods suggested by the community till today but nothing changed. I have gone thro’ all the following procedures: I am waiting for an expert  to come forward, who has faced this problem, and help me out from this mess.
1. Try the iPod troubleshooting assistant:
If you have not already done so, try the steps in the iPod Troubleshooting Assistant (choose your iPod model from the list).
If the issue remains after following your iPod's troubleshooting assistant, follow the steps below to continue troubleshooting your issue.
2. Restart the iPod Service
3. Restart the Apple Mobile Device Service
4. Empty your Temp directory and restart
5. Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed
6. Change your iPod's drive letter
7. Remove and reinstall iTunes
8. Disable conflicting System Services and Startup Items
9. Update, Reconfigure, Disable, or Remove Security Software
10. Deleting damaged or incorrect registry keys

Well you tried 'everything', that I thought of, I would think that Antivirus is the main culprit or that install a Windows Plugin that emulates Mac OS X.
Anyway here is a helpful link from CHG, http://cahwyguy.livejournal.com/1220479.html
Read the 4th Paragraph on disk diagnostic, it may tell you that your hardisk is dying and need to be replaced.
Good Luck!

  • My ipod classic won't show in itunes after a restore

My ipod classic would only show apple logo. So I restored it following the appe support instructions. Once this was done it said do not disconnect, ipod will appear in itunes. But it doesn"t and there is still the apple logo on the screen of the ipod.
    Any idea ?
    Thanks

    Be patient please.
Your iPod hardisk filesystem need to be repaired
Use DiskUtility, select your iPod, click First Aid and press Repair.
However if you want to troubleshoot it yourself.
To change from diskmode to normal mode.
    Disconnect the iPod from PC
press Menu and Center button for 10 secs till the Apple logo comes ON, then let go of the buttons.
This will bring you to Normal iPod mode, if your iPod harddisk and battery are good.
If you hear clicking sounds, during the reset, your iPod hardisk is dying.
    Good Luck!

  • IPod classic won't connect to iTunes after erase in disk utility

I think my hard drive is failing on my 120gb classic and so I decided to wipe it and start from scratch. Admittedly I rushed into the process and wiped it in disk utility without doing much research. Now it doesn't show up in iTunes but it is showing up on my desktop. Any ideas on how to fix this issue?

Hi I had a similar issue with my 160gb Classic
Went through many things with Apple on the phone all to no avail.
Took it to the Genius Bar and managed to get it recognised by iTunes and then restore....but when i plugged it into my MBA or IMac it was not recognised by iTunes and just appeared on the desktop..again.
Given that i am using Yosemite and iTunes 12 and reinstalled iTunes, Apple answer was to do a reinstall on my MBA!
Reluctantly i did this and it worked!!!!!!!!
It was recognised by the ancient iTunes9 before updating to 12 again and it was still recognised....
Just got to reinstall all my music, photos, documents.....at least i have my retro 160Gb iPod Classic to load everything on....
    hope this helps

  • 2nd gen ipod won't show in itunes after 7.3.1.3 update - win xp

    hi.
home built xp pro Sp 2 machine - NO USB 2.0 ports. 1 gig ram
iPod Nano 4 gig, been working fine since september.
iTunes decides to update to 7.3.1.3 last night overnight.
It updates but I forgot to reset in the morning.
plugged in the ipod to charge/sync. itunes didn't come up.
realized I had to reboot after the update. did that.
itunes came up and updated my saved music library on the pc. (89 gig, btw) This took several hours.
plugged ipod back in. iTunes didn't see it. This was on a hub. tried it on a port on the motherboard. iTunes saw it & started to sync. Great! Then after about 3 minutes of syncing I got an error saying that "this device cannot be synced, the folder could not be found."
WHAT FOLDER IS IT TALKING ABOUT?!?!
Since then, I cannot get iTunes to see my iPod, The iPod registers that the device is connected and charges but windows says the device has failed to install & device manager tells me "Unknown device" (yes I did have it configured for disk use.) and iTunes will not bring up the device to sync.
    I've tried resetting & reconnecting.
I'm leery of re-installing because I do not want to have to re-load & re-register 89 gig of music in my iTunes library.
Since when has a USB 2.0 port become required for functioning?

  • My iPod won't connect to iTunes after I restored it.

I've got a first generation ipod Touch and I started having some trouble with the internet and some of my apps just closing down and not opening for long periods of time. So I decided to restore it and now every time I plug it into iTunes it says "We could not complete your iTunes store request. An unknown error occurred (-9808) Try again later." My iPod is now empty! How do I get it to connect again?

    Try here:

First try to resolve #2 by:
    See
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    - I would start with
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP
    or
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
However, after your remove the Apple software components also remove the iCloud Control Panel via Windows Programs and Featurs appin the Window Control Panel. Then reinstall all the Apple software components
    - New cable and different USB port
    - Run this and see if the results help with determine the cause

    - Try on another computer to help determine if computer or iPod problem
If you can resolve #1 and still get same message for #1 then you have to restore the iPod like the message says.

  • HT201263 I see the "Connect to iTunes" screen and the device appears in iTunes. Everytime I connect to iTunes, iTunes says my device is in recovery mode and has to be recovered so I do so. The same recovery message shows in iTunes after iTunes is complete

I see the "Connect to iTunes" screen and the device appears in iTunes. Every time I connect to iTunes, iTunes says my device is in recovery mode and has to be recovered so I do so. The same recovery message shows in iTunes after iTunes is complete. I have a iPod touch 64gb. I have no idea what OS is on it now that iTunes has tried to recover it and erased all info.

Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes)
Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .

  • Ipod nano won't sync podcasts from iTunes after I "Restored" the ipod.

iPod nano won't sync podcasts from iTunes after I "Restored" the iPod.

If you've read the Technical Specification you will find that the nano can only use Firewire for charging, not for syncing:
    http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/specs.html
"Charging via USB or FireWire to computer system or power adapter (sold separately)"
So you can rule that out.
Have you tried the 5 R's?

  • TS1538 My I-pod Classic is not showing up in I-tunes, but my I-pod nano does. What do I need to fix this?

When I connect my I-pod classic it automatically says its connected in the Classics window, but does not appear in I-Tunes. I have tried removing the old I tunes program and re-installing the newest version, I have done the toggle the hold button reset trick, and nothing. But when I plug in my nano it sync's the connects and shows up in I-Tunes. So that tells me my cord is good and the USB I am using is good. Any help would be great.. Thanks

    1) Plug in the USB then the 21 pin dock connector to your Classic while iTunes isn't open and if your computer makes a little du du noise it means its installing the iPods Device software and should work once its finished
    2) Try using a different USB port or cord and see if that makes a difference
3)Contact Apple directly by phone and there support line is here http://www.apple.com/contact/

  • Won't show in itunes - utterly fed up

Really fed up with this issue now to the point where I will tear my hair out or punch someone!!!
I recently bought an ipod touch which connected to itunes at first but now it's hit and miss, took me at least 3 hours to get a book on there as I had to keep trying different things to try and get it to show up in itunes.
Just paid £499 for a new iphone 4s and it won't connect at all so I can't sync wirelessly, can't put my music or videos onto it.
Finding this very frustrating as I have better things to do than waste hours of my time trying different things just for the device to do what it should be doing.
I've followed every article and tried everything.  I've restarted the device, reinstalled itunes, everything else that's been suggested bla bla bla, nothing works.
Out of the blue after hours and hours my ipod touch just decided to show in itunes.  No such luck with my iphone 4s.  Never had a problem with my ipod classic that still syncs brilliantly every time.  It's not my pc, it's not the cable, there is a major problem with itunes since the recent updates.
This will be my last I.O.S purchase, despite the number of posts on this subject I don't see apple actually resolving it.  What a quality company - not!
£500 well spent, should've gone with a samsung or blackberry, learnt my lesson.
If anyone has actually solved this common issue that apple can't be bothered with I'd really appreciate a solution, thanks.

    See ya....

  • IPod classic album artwork showing in iTunes no longer in Ipod

    Hi everyone,
I have an iPod classic and until today, my album artwork always would show in iTunes and iPod Classic.  The artwork is now no longer showing in my iPod and the "get info" tab is not available for me in iTunes.
I tried ticking off the artwork in my iPod, syncing, then ticking again the artwork and albums, then syncing again and still to no avail.  Please help, I would be grateful if someone could give me a solution

Restoring is the function in iTunes that wipes a device, reloads the firmware and then lets you put back content. Yes, it deletes the media from the device but that should all be in your library, which in turn should be backed up. See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device and Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy if it isn't.

  • Usb port can't find hardware for ipod so won't show on itunes

My computer says it the usb port for my ipod is unknown and won't show it on my my itunes so i can't add new music. I already installed the whole thing again but it still didn't work. Any ideas?

I have a similar problem - my computer always tells me it does not recognize my USB device or that the device has malfunctioned and then the iPod shuts off. I found a few support articles on the issue.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61711
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301343
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305136
None of these help me because I think my problem is the last one (iPod is not recognized properly by computer when USB drivers are not installed properly or are out of date) but the fix requires the iPod to be turned on.
my ipod also has minimal battery life at this point, which may be a contributing problem.
    can anyone help me?
