Irst of all, I must say that I am not an expert and please correct me if I am wrong. I have been busy during the past month solving some iPod problems from friends and family members. Also I have been reading and posting on this discussion forum. I have really learnt a lot from some of them. The following post is the best I ever read and it is good to keep it as a quick reference
http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?128@@.68ae8668
To cut the long story short, I reckon iPod is equivalent to an external Hard Disk, the problem can be caused by either software or hardware, so it isn't a too complicated stuff, therefore, once you have problem with your iPod, just think about how you would solve the problem as if it is a HD. The following are the most common solutions..
1. Reset (it would not erase data in your iPod)
It is quite common in all PDA, imagine the numbers of times we need to reset our PDAs. Therefore, if your iPod get stuck, do not get panic just press "Select"+"Menu" keys, which should solve most of the problems. It will be great if Apple can design an upcoming iPod with a reset button instead of pressing "Select"+"Menu" keys
2. Many cases, the iPod battery get drained out, and I do not know the reason behind, but the iPod does not get charged by plugging it into the computer (quite common in PC)via the USB cable, again it does happen in PDA as well. Therefore, please charge your iPod with the AC Charger when iPod shows a battery sign or an icon telling you to plug your iPod to the AC Charger. Furthermore, some iPods need to plug in with the AC charger in order to finish the restore fuction. There are cases that your iPod shows on the desktop and disappear in few seconds after the restore, then you must plug it to the AC Charger, and you will see the update bar running. In general, it is a good maintenance if we fully charge our iPod with the AC Charger once a month
3. Restore - (will erase all data in iPod)
It equals a format which iPod can recongize and also an installation of a software to communicate with the computer.
Plug your iPod with your computer and open the iPod updater, you can choose Update or Restore.
In some cases iPod would not be recongized by the computer then I find that if we put the iPod in Disk Mode (Press "Select"+"Play" keys), and connect it with the computer, open the iTunes, you will able to see your iPod's icon there. Then open the iPod updater and do a restore
4. Always download the latest version of iPod updater and iTunes
5. iPod cant recongized by computer, which could be equal to a disk error of a hard disk - this is the most difficult problem since it will not allow the computer to do the restore, however, some cases have been reported that the probelm can be solved if we manage to format the iPod. If it could not be formatted, delete the Partition first. Bear in mind you must restore the iPod updater again afterwards.
6. I have been told that a reset on the Mac could also help on the issue of iPod not being recongzied by computer. In PC, you can do a check disk or disable/enable the USB driver in device manage to solve this problem.
In short, we must try to do a few attempts and reboot our computer if we cant solve it in one shot.

i cant turn on my i pod touch 2G. i think os is crashed. is there a way to reinstall the software. i cant open the ipod using itunes.

    - Have you tried resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Then connect to your computer and if it appears in iTunes restore the iPod.
    - If iTunes does not see the iPod, place the iPod in recovery mode and then try to restore the iPod..  For recovery mode see:

  • My I-pod mini stays on when my computer turns off.

    Hey there,
I'm sort of new to the whole i-pod scene. I'm not sure if this happens to other people or not. I did a quick search on the forums and didn't see anything like this.
Basically what happens is, I connect my i pod mini to my computer. but if i turn my computer off and leave my ipod mini connected, the i pod stays on (although the back light will turn itself off) and in a short while the battery is completly dead. So I have to charge it again. I know the simple solution is to simply disconnect the i pod mini, but I think it should turn itself off should it not? I always forget to disconnect it and then the battery is drained and i have to wait an hour or so for the thing to charge again.
Is there any patch to fix this?
My psu is an enermax 600w noisetaker
my mobo is the asus a8v deluxe
I only listed these to components as I feel they are the only 2 relevant to my problem (if they have any relevancy at all)
    Thanks for any help guys!

Maybe you missed this part of my post.
"Your computer cannot charge the iPod battery whilst it's switched off."
If you leave it connected to your computer without switching it off, then the battery will drain. A computer that is powered off cannot charge the iPod battery. The exception is on some Macs that can charge the battery whilst in "sleep" mode.
And when you say "it's not doing anything" is the 'do not disconnect' screen still displayed? If it is, the iPod is switched on and the battery is draining.
Before powering off your computer, disconnect the iPod and switch it off.

  • IPod says "No Content" in music, and suddenly I can only play that content through iTunes on my computer...

    Can anyone help me?
I have been having terrible problems with my i-Pod Touch. I have very slow internet (often only 2 or 3 kb per second) but Apple seems to demand I do countless time-consuming updates. For this reason I haven't been able to update my iPod to iOS5........I have also had the whole run of errors when I connect my iPod to iTunes to update anything. I have had Error 13109, 5826, 1604 and 3194....but all of that hasn't bothered me too much as I manage to transfer music from CDs or computer files (podcasts from non-iTunes sources) and that's all I need.
All of a sudden yesterday, whilst continually giving me the error 13109 message, my iPod said I have no content in the music library. However, when I plug in the iPod to my computer and switch on iTunes I can see those songs are still there, and indeed I can play them. Until this morning I was able to play that content from my iPod through my loudspeakers that have an iPod dock - completely unconnected to my computer.
It just means that I can't play those songs when I am anywhere except connected to my computer - and that's not really the point of having an iPod is it?
Is anyone able to help me?
By the way, I should like to say that I am very new to i-Pods, and I already think it is absurd that a customer should be constantly obliged to update everything, and when things go wrong visit all manner of websites (and Apple Support Communities!) to hunt for solutions, and then spend hours and hours going into the belly of my computer, making changes, downloaded, syncing, re-booting and goodness knows what else to just try to get the product to do what the manufacturer said it would do when I bought it, without telling me anything about all this other hassle. I think it is shocking, or have I just been sold the only lemon in the orchard? I bought it in Mozambique and live in Zimbabwe - and none of these places offer support services.
tks for nay advice or commiseration you may be able to offer.........
    Nick (aged 50, and ignorant).

OK guys...no need to reply....I am resigned to never getting to the bottom of the syncing problem....I just go from 13109 to other error codes, downloading little umbrellas, putting th eipod in DWI mode (or something like that), restoring, getting anew error code, not being able to download updates etc. etc. - so I lost my patience with sitting in front of my computer trying to fix something I paid nearly usd 800 for (in my opinion the manufacturer should make it properly in the first place, or warn you about its faults before you buy)............
I synced my iPod to the computer, lost all my content ans restored only witrh what I had on this computer's iTunes - thus losing the countless CDs and vinyl I had converted to digital on my other ocmputer at home in Mozambique, which my current iTunes says it can't locate.
Am I really the only person who prefers to listen to music instead of spending hours and hours on the computer trying to fix this useless machne?
I wish I had never wasted my money on this thing. I guess it's just inappropriate and too sophisticated for where I live and for my simple needs (wi-fi and music only).
Very big thumbs down from this novice for the iPod Touch and for the iTunes way of doing things in general.......

  • Won't sync...Please Help!!

    Hey,
I am really starting to get a little nervous!!
My 80G 5th gen Ipod (that I have had no problems with for the past year & half),
is giving me a little trouble.
When I connect to I-tunes it,
it won't sync and I get the message,
"the disk cannot be read from or written to".
I have the latest updated version on my I-pod, (1.3, I think)
    but I haven't updated I-tunes for a while (I am running 7.4.2(4)),
cause I had been hearing about some problems with some of the I-tunes updates as of late.
I reset my I-pod several times,
but I really don't want to have to restore it.
I have a lot of movies & podcasts on it
that are no longer in my I-tunes library.
What else beside praying can I do to try and fix it?
Any & all help would be greatly appreciated!!!
    Thank you,
    Todd

    You have three choices:
1.Go to Apple or Firedog (in Circit City) and pay to retreive your data and restore your iPod
2.If the computer can read the iPod, get Aimersoft iPod Copy Manager and save your data to a folder then open Explorer or whatever you use in Mac to save other files
    3.Get a new iPod....
    I hope this helps! azureVinh.webs.com

his may not be your situation, BUT.........
When I purchased my new 80G I-Pod, I did not think to
    confirm USB port compatability.
My iMac has USB 1.1 ports, and this new Pod
    requires USB 2.0.
uring a nightmarish 14-hr period of Five R's, Disc
mode, software hunts, and even a retry on Tunes 6, I
got every error message imaginable and still no

Tech Support tells me that I must have 2.0 ports, so

If your desktop machine has only USB 1.1 ports, try

Tunes............. or maybe buy a new accessory.

  • Get certificate from the browser

    Hi friends!,
I am working with an application to get files from the client machine, to sign those files with the client's certificate and send those sign to the server.
The application get the client's certificate from a key store, but I want the applet will get the certificate from the browser.
    Is that possible?.
Thanks and sorry for my little english. Greetings from Venezuela.

If all you're looking for is Client SSL Authentication, then you don't need to access the digital certificates through an applet; just enable ClientAuth on your web-server and let the browser handle it for you. While I haven't tried this with Chrome, Safari or Opera, I know for a fact that this works on Firefox and IE.
If you're trying to access the digital certificates/keys in the browser-keystore for digitally signing some content that the applet creates, you're going to have far more difficulty. About 10-12 years ago, Netscape provided an API that allowed you to digitally sign text-content through JavaScript. That died a quiet death, I think, since I don't know of anyone who used that capability (outside of test environments).
Years later, Mozilla added the ability to digitally sign XML content using XForms; there is even an add-on for Thunderbird (which uses the same libraries as Firefox for PKCS work): https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/4522/.
However, to the best of my knowledge, the only way you can get an applet to access the borwser's keystore today is to have the security policy on the client-machine modified to provide access to the local file-system, and the applet then pretty much deals with the keystore and its objects through JCE.
But, if I'm reading your post correctly, I think all you're looking for is SSL ClientAuth, for which you don't need to do anything other than enable it on your web-server that hosts the applets, and let the browser do the heavy lifting.

  • Share NetConnection / provide parameters to NetConnection

    Hi,
in a recent Flex project I need to build the following:
    - a video player (for live video)
    - a userlist
    - a chatpod
for the video player I want to use OSMF/SMP of course. The application connects against FMS with some custom authentication logic implemented in SSAS on the FMS. This works like this:
    - user request HTML page that embeds Flex app / SWF
    - server serves HTML page and adds token and IDs to the HTML page (FlashVars for the SWF)
    - the Flex app reads those params in
Next, I need to create a custom NetConnection and pass over the token and the IDs. These get checked on the FMS server by issueing a remoting call to a backend system. If the check is positive, FMS calls application.acceptConnection(client), otherwise the client is rejected. This works fine with a vanilla NetConnection.
Now, as I also have some FMS logic in place which refuses new clients to connect based on a configuration parameter (e.g. max number of concurrent clients) I really need to reuse the same NetConnection for all 3 UI elements: the video player, the user list and the chat pod. So I think I have two options here:
    1) setup the NetConnection by hand and make OSMF/SMP use it (by injection or whatever - but I have no clue what would be the correct hook for it)
    2) adjust the corresponding code / monkey patch OSMF/SMP which sets up the NetConnection (again - where should I do that)
I would really like to take adantage of the built-in connection manager in OSMF which by itself figures out how to connect and tries all the different protocols and ports. What I did so far is that I tried just pass the parameters by using a StreamingURLResource (as discussed here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2652556). This allows for passing parameters to FMS but I found that these parameters are not reapplied when the Player looses its connection and tries to reconnect... so these parameters are not "persistent"
Btw, current config is Flex SDK 4.1 and OSMF 1.5 targeting FP 10.1
    Thanks,
    Dirk

We currently don't have a good solution for this (you'd have to provide your own NetNegotiatior subclass with a lot of duplicate code), but there's a bug filed here:

  • HP laptops with AMD motherboards are all defective garbage

Why does HP continue to use these notoriously defective AMD boards? You're lucky to get a year out of them, and then convienently just after the year warranty is up they die. Windows has a blue screen of death, I think AMD HP's should be called the black screen of death. I have a G7-1330dx and the motherboard failed. It would not charge or recognize a good ac adapter (tried 3 good ones). So I buy a used motherboard on Ebay, that's they claim was tested. I install it and guess what.....black screen of death. There's currently 9 of these specific motherboards on Ebay and 5 out of 9 are dead, and one untested, which probably also means dead. First it was the dv2000, dv6000, dv9000 etc series that had the black screen of death, then it was the dv5, dv6 etc......Now HP keeps it's horrible reputation going by using the same defective junk in the G6's and G7, and who knows how many more models. I am returning this dead mb to the Ebay seller, I will buy another used one on Ebay and once this piece of crap works I am selling it and buying a Dell with an Intel. Here's my advice to anyone that reads this that was thinking about buying an HP.....Don't do it, you will be sorry. Buy a Dell. I will share this advice on Facebook and fill out numerous reviews, hopefully I can prevent someone from getting robbed by HP.

    Hi,
I have bought a tested mtb (Intel) off eBay and it was also defective. Not dead but couldn't pass through the POST. G6/7 series are budget laptops!! If you want a decent laptop buy an Envy. It's still cheaper with the same or even better configuration than a Dell laptop.

  • No HDMI Audio on Optimus system

    Hello Everyone,
I have an Asus G46vw Laptop, and I got HDMI working which did not work out of the box. This laptop has an onboard Intel HD4000 and a Discrete Nvidia 660M. Keep in mind that Bumblebee for me is out of question. I need HDMI video support.  I am having issues with getting HDMI audio to work. I am pretty good at googleing and finding varous solutions to solve other problems I  have had (e.g. HDMI video, borked touchpad, fn keys, etc). Half of my hardware is broken out of the box lol. Now I do have sound through my main speakers. I would try making various conf files with my HDMI hardware ID but unfortunately I don't think it is being detected properly as a sound device. Below is my aplay output.

When I do "#aplay --list-devices | grep -i HDMI" nothing shows up.  Any help is appreciated. Keep in mind I am new to Arch (have been on Ubuntu off and on last several years). I have beaten the hwiki to death I think
Also this is somewhat off topic but for some reason when HDMI gets activated after boot the boot sequence log is still shown on the Laptop screen. Is this normal? Shouldn't the laptop screen shut off at least after HDMI kicks on or I start my DE? I do not see an option in Settings/Display to turn off laptop screen (Gnome 3 DE)

Sorry to be off topic but I didn't know how to contact you.
I saw your post about problems with RAID and Quicktime.
I have a similar problem. Any time I open a file with quicktime that exists on the RAID drives, Quicktime hangs and the RAID array fails.
If I copy the file to a drive not attached to the RAID controller, I can open the copy in Quicktime w/o a problem.

  • Our PC won't recognize hubby's new nano

I've been trying to follow all the suggestions currently posted, but still no luck.

Yes, I tried a different USB port, and a different cable.  I went through all the steps in the I-tunes help, I've updated my HP software and my I-Tunes software, I've gone through Device manager and tried to uninstall and reinstall the iPod, but still no luck.  I've reset the I-pod.  I don't remember what it said, if anything on the I-pod itself.  I think it just had the menu.  My husband has listened to the radio on it.  It does charge on our computer, and is fully charged.

  • Upgrading to better IPODs

Hi i bought an i pod nano last november thinking that 4G would hold all my music. Well turns out i was wrong, can someone please tell me if it is possible to trade in my nano and pay the extra money to upgrade to a 30G Video?
    Thanks For the Help

    No.
    Here's your options:
    1. Sell it on eBay, or other site like that, or sell it to a friend.
    2. Turn it in to an Apple store to get 10% off your next iPod.
    I hope this helps!
