My i tunes library / pc Vista

How do I change the order of my music, etc in i tunes?  Why do items get out of order as you download them?

Keeferaf, thank you for your assistance....I authorized both computers and turned on home sharing and so far it's done nothing....does it take a while for this to take effect?  I'm going to try and shut everything down and then reopen and see if that helps....wish I'd figured this out a while ago...makes things a lot easier and I was at the Apple Store yesterday and no one even suggested Home Sharing.

  • I have recently upgraded my laptop from Vista to Windows 7. All my music is on a windows file, how do I move it to i tunes library

I have recently upgraded my laptop operating system from Vista to Windows 7. i tunes is asking me to sync my i pod, because it is recognising the Vista laptop and not the Windows 7. All my music has gone from i tunes library but it is all stored in Windows music folder(s). How can I move it all to my i tunes library?

So your iTunes library is now empty after the upgrade?
Simply drag the one folder (containing all of your music) into your new empty iTunes library or choose File -> Add to Library in iTunes.
Otherwise, if they aren't all in one folder, you'll have to drag each seperate one into iTunes.

  • I lost my i-tunes library on my vista pc  while trying to install  an update. How do i get it back

I have a pc running Vista.  I got an update notice, but it would not upgrade. I tried to upgrade from download folder as suggested but somehow my entire i-tunes library is now gone. I have an external hard drive on this computer.  Can I transfer my i tunes back to my pc, and if so, how do I do this?
I have a new Mac with my i-tunes library on it, but it does not have a CD drive so I cannot add music from CD's with it.
Any help would be appreciated.  Thank-you.

  • How Do I transfer existing I-tunes library which is on old Pc to new mac book for I-tunes use?

We recently purchased a new Macbook pro, along w/an Apple Time Capsule(2TbHD-wireless router).
We have a pretty significant size (21GB) I-tunes Library located on our dinosaur Vista (64) terd of a Pc.
We have several copied Cd's in this Library in addition to multiple Songs purchased under different Apple Id's overtime in I-tunes.
We were able to transfer a copy of the 21GB library (wirelessly) to the time capsule. (which seemed to take a long time...2hours.)
Both computers are now on the Time Capsule home network.
The question we have is what is the recommended way for us to utilize all that is in our 21GB Library with the new Mac book.
Should I, in I-tunes advanced preferences identify the library location as the Time Capsule...?
Or would it be best if I transefered the 21GB to the Mac books hard drive?
    Sincerely
    Bill

  • The file i tunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes

The file i tunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes?
I got this message after trying to open up itunes . I recently did a system restore to  my computer to a restore point i made a couple days ago
My itunes library was huge and very organized have I lost it all because I restored my pc to 7 days ago????? SERIOUSLY I GOOGLED THIS and I HAVE READ SO MANY DIFFERENT ANSWERS ITS ANNOYING!!!!
    I have windows vista
CAN SOMEBODY JUST GIVE ME A SOLUTION TO HOW TO GET MY ITUNES(PLAYLISTS AND ALL) BACK!!!!!
dont give me a way that deletes all my playlists because i had way over 1,000 playlists divided into Folders it was super organized!

It sounds as though the system restore that you've done has reverted your computer back to a previous version of iTunes. In iTunes look at Help/About iTunes and as the scroll runs, you will see the iTunes version number.
The latest version of iTunes (on the day of writing) is 10.5.1.42, so if your iTunes is lower than that, it's possible that's what the problem is. (This assumes that you were previously using 10.5.1.42, which is a reasonable assumption.)
So make sure you have the latest version. I don't know why you did the system restore on your computer, but despite what some people may have you believe, iTunes is very stable and unlikely to be causing any issues on your computer that need to be undone with a system restore.

  • How do I change the I-Tunes library my IPhone is synced with?

I have an I-phone that was happily synced with the I-Tunes library that I was using on my computer on Windows Vista. I recently upgraded my operating system to Windows 7 and once it was complete I clicked onto I-Tunes to find my library was empty and it appeared that I just had a new version of I-Tunes. Not a problem I thought I would just re-connect my I-phone and it would happily sync and all the information would transfer back to the computer. When I try to sync however I am getting a meesage that the I-phone is synced with another I-tunes library and I can only sync with one I-tunes library at a time. It offers to erase all the data from my I-phone and replace it with the contents of the library on the computer but that is empty so I will be left with an empty I-phone. How do I allow my I-phone to sync with this 'new' library as the 'old' library has dissapeared from my computer? Please help

Did you backup your important files including iTunes (no dash in iTunes or iPhone) before you upgraded to Windows 7?

  • Safeset way to transfer i tunes library from old laptop to newer Sony Vaio??  I'm concerned about transfering viruses etc...i have an external drive available.

Hiya. I want to transfer my I tunes library from an old laptop I've not used for a couple of years. I've got a sony vaio now, so I guess my options are either Windows migration or use my new external hard drive. I'm worried about any viruses etc being passed across, so what is the safest option??

There should never be a need to turn off anti-virus protection to effect a data transfer.  The key to successfully transferring an iTunes library from one computer to another is to have the library (database and media) in a "well formed" layout that facilitates the process.  In practical terms, this means that all your media (songs, audiobooks, TV shows, ...) is contained within the iTunes Media folder within the iTunes folder that's located by default in one of the following locations:
    Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes
    Windows Vista: C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes
Windows 7 and Windows 8: C:\Users\username\My Music\iTunes (in theses "My Music" is one of Windows' virtual libraries and the same path as used in Vista is normally equally valid)
This folder and its subfolders should look like this:
If this is the case, then you can:
Exit iTunes, and copy this iTunes folder, in its entirety, to an external HDD connected to your old machine
In your case, I'd then suggest running a complete virus / malware scan on the external HDD.  It would be unusual to find viruses or malware embedded in iTunes' media files or other data, but doing this step would at least confirm that the data you're moving is infection-free.
Then, copy this iTunes folder to the corresponding location on your new laptop (where iTunes should not be running at this time).  If you've already installed iTunes and haven't added any new content to the library on the new machine you can just overwrite the files/folders that you find there.
Just to make sure that iTunes is picking up the correct library database, i.e., the one you just transferred, hold down the Shift key as you start iTunes, and when you see this prompt:
click on Choose Library... navigate to the location of the folder you just copied (assuming Windows 7 or 8, C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes), select the iTunes Library.itl file you see there, and click Open.
Your library will now be available to you on the new laptop.
    Two caveats:
If your iTunes media on the old machine is not in the well formed structure described above (which may be the case if you've added existing MP3 or other formats without having configured iTunes as follows (in Edit > Preferences > Advanced):
see Turingtest2's notes on Make a split library portable on the steps needed to reorganize your library into a more standard layout.  This may be a little tricky for you if the old machine is virus-infected to the extent that you can't run iTunes, but hopefully that won't be the case.
If you've already added anything to the library on your new machine prior to transferring data from the old one you'll need an extra step in the procedure described above, before step 3:
on the new machine (with iTunes not running) rename the C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes to something like "iTunesTemp"
copy the library files and folders as described above, so you have a C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes folder again
copy the contents of the C:\Users\username\iTunesTemp\iTunes Media folder (which will still contain any songs, etc, added on the new machine - you can just select any/all folders you find in that location except "Automatically Add to iTunes" and "Downloads") to C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Automatically Add to iTunes

  • I have installed and uninstalled i tunes to windows vista several times and i keep getting an error message of no apple support

I have tried numerous times to install and uninstall i tunes on windows vista and I keep getting an error message of no apple support.  Anyone have a solution to this?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version, or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • Problems backing up I-tunes library to external hard drive.

Help - I'm having problems backing up I-tunes library to external hard drive. The drive appears on the desktop but when I try to drag in my i-tunes music folder I just get the circle with a line through it symbol. I can drag items from my mac to a different 4 gig memory stick with no problems. I put some music onto the hard drive from a windows p.c. and that dragged into my i-tunes fine. Any help would be much appreciated.

i'm guessing the external HD is NTFS formatted, which your Mac cannot write to (read only).
you will either have to reformat it (FAT32 or, better yet, for Mac) or install the _*NTFS 3G*_ driver.

  • Back up i-tunes library to flash drive

Have a 2010 MacBook Ai  and want to back up my i-tunes library and pictures in i-photos to a flash drive.
All I can find online is how to back up to Time Machine.  Don't have Time Machine and don't want to buy one.
Anyone can tell me how to back up music and photos to a USB flash drive?
    Thanks.

Click on the Music and Pictures items of the Finder's sidebar and drag the folders over. An iPhoto library needs to be stored on a drive, partition, or disk image formatted to Mac OS Extended with or without journaling.

  • Linking I-tunes library to external drive

I have managed to successfully relocate my i-tunes library onto an external drive, having followed instructions in the i-tunes for Dummies book. (my laptop internal hard drive was full). However, i-tunes has not linked itself to the external i-tunes library file. I understood that this should happen automatically. How do I link them together?

    Hey there,
One thing you should check is where your iTunes searches for your iTunes folder. Head to iTunes and then Preferences. When the window pops up, head over to the Advanced tab. Near the top of the tab, you will see where iTunes currently locates your Music folder. Click the Change button and then direct it to where the folder is located on your External drive. See if that helps.

  • After upgrading to the latest version of itune, I get this message when trying to open itunes: "The I'tunes Library File is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to write for this file.

After importing the latest version of itune, I now get this message:  "The I-tunes library file is locked, on a locked disk , or you do not have permission to write for this file.  How do I resolve this?

check if you have read & write permissions for your music folder. in the finder, right-click on it and get info. unlock the little padlock (you may have to enter your admin password) and change the permission settings if necessary. next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and apply to enclosed items like so
the important part is to apply to enclosed items !
also, even if it seems unrelated, try the steps in this support article: iTunes: Missing folder or incorrect permissions may prevent authorization
