can i use icloud as a back up as data is not there either

(I feel your pain. It's taken me ages to work out basics with this program, and even then I don't understand how it really works).
Check the SUMMARY page of your device. Make sure the sync only checked songs etc option is unchecked
Go to MUSIC (next to Music on your device) and perform an artist search for it.

Restore from backup if you backed up with the data you deleted. Make sure that you do not update now since the previous backup will be overwritten

Moved to Lion and all folders in mail disappeared. How can I restore them from Time Machine?

When I moved to Lion I had to reconfigure my mailbox and all previous folders disappeared. How can I restore them? I have backip of everything in the Time machine but cannot find the folders and do not know how to import them when I do.

It's possible Outlook opened in a new Identity.
In the Finder go to your Documents folder > Microsoft User Data folder > Office 2011 Identities folder.
Inside you should see your Identity. You might see other Identities from prior rebuilds. If Outlook opened in a new blank Identity you can open the Database Utility to set your old Identity as default.
Options to check in the Identity to determine if it has data.
Check the database file in the Identity to see when it was created and modified.
Check the Data Records folder to see if it has these folders:
Message Attachments
Message Sources
Messages
If these folders are missing there are no messages.
Open the Database Utility
Hold down the Option key when launching Outlook. It will open the Database Utility.
Click on the + to add a new Identity.
Click on the gear to set default Identity.
Another option to open the Database Utility is to open from Applications.
/Applications/Microsoft Office 2011/Office/Microsoft Database Utility.app

By reinstalling do you mean that you deleted the app and redownloaded it ? Deleting an app will remove the app and its contents. Do you have copies of the PDFs in the Books part of your computer's iTunes library so that you can sync them back ?
