My Ibook cant connect to my home network

I have an ibook G4. In my new flat my landlord has wireless internet (belkin router). There are four other computers in the house that connect just fine - they are not apples. my apple has been able to connect to the internet without any problems at my friends house who has WPA-PSK security and also many places around the world. I have moved into my new flat and my laptop can see the network - but when I try to connect using the password it keeps coming up with the message "error in joining the network XXXXX" this is very frustrating as I have dowloaded all the latest software and have been advised that my laptop is able to support WPA-PSK security with AES encyrption and yet I cannot for the life of me connect to this particular router. Can anyone help me? I just need to know what to do - Apple have advised that I need to change something on my security settings but I dont know how. It also works when my landlord takes off all the security from his router, but obviously he cannot do this all the time.

Go to this post and the Mac video should help with getting the 1102 installed and connected to a wireless network.
To see exactly what is in the video, I highly recommend uninstalling any software that is insalled for this printer.
I know you mentioned starting over from the beginning once, but just make sure that there is nothing for this printer at all.
I also recommend installing the software by downloading the correct software for your printer fromt he Support and Drivers page at the top of this page.

Just bought my ipad and cant connect to my home wifi trying to do initial set up.
My wifi is working as my macbook runs off it..any ideas?

    1. Turn router off for 30 seconds and on again, this will refresh the IP address of the iPad.
    2. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    3. Try changing router security e.g. WEP/WPA/WPA2
    4. Have you updated router firmware?

  • Tecra A10 - Refurbished - unable to get it connected to my home network

I just got this Tecra A10-104 refurbished Laptop...before I take it back I am asking here just in case theres something I have missed as I am unable to get it connected to my home network.
I am running a Belkin Wireless Router that has 2 main PC's directly connected (LAN), and another PC wirelessly connected.
    This is my router: http://www.belkin.com/uk/support/article/?lid=enu&pid=F5D8233uk4&aid=9238&scid=0
All PC's working fine and connected.
Now I'm trying to setup this laptop to connect.
I uninstalled the Vista Business and ussed the XP Pro Product Recovery disc that came with the Tecra.
My WiFi card is: Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 5100 (Driver Date: 27/04/2008 - Driver Version: 12.0.0.73)
It sees the network but no matter what i try just won't connect.
What I have done so far (read before suggesting stuff I have already tried):
Reconfigured routers WPS to Shared Key system.
Made sure the wireless adapter has settings set to 20/40hz (auto)
Restarted router, cable modem & laptop several times
Wireless button on side of Laptop is ON.
FN + F8 to enable WIFI (ON) BLUETOOTH (OFF)
Added wireless network to Auto Connect settings along with SSID and passcode end encryption method.
Clicked connect when network appears in network viewer dialogue and retyped passcode.
    Not working.
I should add the Laptop has no problems connecting via its Gigabit LAN port.
    Anything else I'm missing?
    Thanks in advance.
    EDIT: Dual post removed.

    UPDATE:
The next thing I tried was to reinstall Vista Business from recovery disc to see if this suffered from the same problem.
The wireless connection worked fine on Vista and, despite the updates that I was being offered, worked without needing to update any drivers.
This made me think...so the issue is probably XP DRIVER related.
What I have done now is backup all the driver updates I was told to download by TEMPRO (BIOS & wireless manager updates included).
I think part of the problem is that TEMPRO only works in Vista (not XP) so you are not informed of any updates that may be required if you downgrade to XP straight after purchase (which is what I did).

  • Can't even connect to my home network.

Title says it all, bought a 64gig iPad wifi today...little did i know tons of users are having wifi problems...my problem doesnt seem to fit the others though. Most of what i've read people can connect for a bit, and after being in sleep mode then it has problems. I can't even connect to my home network. Works fine with my ipod Touch, laptop, etc. I dont have any form of security set up on my router what so ever. I plan on buying a new router soon (for reasons other than this iPad crap.) I'd really like to see some kind of resolution to this problem before i need to do that though.
I tried all that i could out of the trouble shooting stuff. nothing worked. I even tried setting up a static IP for it. What else can be done? i really dont want to have to return it since its such a nice piece of tech.

Umm... one of the questions that's been asked is whether his iPad will connect anywhere else, If it will, the issues is between the iPad and the particular configuration he has at home. If not, the issue is with the iPad.
Since we don't have an answer to that question yet, your inference that anyone is telling him to "phone ahead to every business or hotel he plans on visiting to request that they replace their "clunky old router" " is unjustified and unhelpful.
Please, continuously blaming every ipad wifi issue on the same router that happily works with every other device is getting old. What standards does iPad support that these clunky old routers do not?
Since, as you've said in another post, you're experienced in the ways of the internet, you will know that it's quite common for new kit to have problems connecting to old kit.

  • MacBook Air will not automatically connect to my home network

    Hi.
My new MBA has an issue. Every single time I open it, it says none of my preferred networks is available. I connect to my home network every day, but it refuses to automatically connect. All other computers at home do (MacMini, MacBook, MacBook Pro, and iMac). I select my home network in the WiFi dropdown and it connects just fine. If I close the lid and immediately open it back up, it has already lost the home network connection.
The home network is first in order in preferred networks. Any ideas why this is happening? It's getting to be a pain...
    Thanks.

Numerous threads on this issue in the MacBook Air as well as MacBook Pro forums. Unfortunately I've been unable to pinpoint exactly what's the issue, if it is machine specific or OS specific or a particular build of the OS. Mostly because I've been able to replicate the issue across 10.7.1 as well as 10.7.2 on a half dozen different models of machines.

  • My iPhone 4s cannot connect to my home network, can't figure out why...

My phone recognizes my home network but cannot join it.  I have tried the option to forget the network and then gone back in and retyped in the password, but it just keeps spinning in a circle trying to connect to my home network, but never connects?
Both my iMac and Macbook have no problems being connected to the same network.
Any thought on what the problem could be?
    Thanks

Have you tried to reset all network parameters? It may help.

  • HT4972 The Wi-fi on my iPhone 4 does not connect to my home network or other networks

The Wi-fi on my iPhone 4 does not connect to my home network or other networks that I have used in the past.  I noticed this after I updated to version 6.  I have tried to reset network settings ;turn off and on wi-fi; reset home network and it's still not working.  Is there a fix for this problem?

Try resetting your network settings.  Go to General\Reset\Reset Netork Settings.  Sometimes this will fix things.  If not, what type of router do you have, what network are you running (B, G, N, etc.).,
    Good luck!

I figured I didn't really phrase the question correctly...
I was just wondering why there are so many on the list and the ones that don't have a padlock icon next to them worry me...
I would like to block/disable them.....
The wireless radio picks up and displays all WiFi signals that are openly transmitted.  That is to show you the networks available to join.  Those that do not have the padlock are unsecure networks, which should not bother you as long as you do not attach to them.  Their being open has no affect on your security.
You cannot completely and permanently block their being listed.  Just ignore them and don't attach to any unkown networks.

  • Finding out devices connected to my home network (Time Capsule)

I have a mid-2013 mac pro and I am using time capsule, I suspect that I have some unwanted guests in my home network:-) how can I see devices connected to my home network?

The new TC and the new Mac OS airport utility are totally useless..
You can do it the old fashioned way with netstat scan from terminal or via the network utility (which is also now hidden so search for it).

  • My iphone 4s will only connect to my home network.

My iphone 4s will only connect to my home network. Any other I join (eg:starbucks) internet says connection error. Even though the phone says it's connected.

Since  I have upgraded the the latest iOS in my iPhone 4S , this problem started and eventually the white button for Wi-fi stopped working. The one day before switching off the phone , I took out the SIM and reset the Networking and didn't switch on. Then I wrapped the phone with tissue paper and kept it in the deep refrigerator for 25 to 30 minutes and after cleaning frosty layer, I turned on the phone.... Somehow the Wi-fi button started working and the Wi-fi network too. Then only I inserted the SIM . Magic..!! My phone is still working fine . But I have to do this process once or twice a month every time Wi-fi stops working. Good luck my friend....hope you get benefitted !!

  • I have a PVR which supports DLNA connected to my home network.  I want to access files on my MacBook from the PVR.  I understand that my MacBook doesn't support DLNA. Is there any 3rd party  software that I can install on my MacBook to provide DLNA?

    Hi,
    Can anyone help me please.
I have a Personal Video Recorder (Humax HDR-1010S), which supports DLNA, connected to my home network via Wi-Fi.
I want to play music from iTunes and view photos from iPhoto from my MacBook (which is also connected to the home network) via the PVR / TV / Home Cinema sound system.  I understand that my MacBook (running OS X Mavericks) doesn't support DLNA server.
Is there any 3rd party  software that I can install on my MacBook to provide DLNA server?
    Thanks,

My recollection is that the iPhoto library has some fairly robust protections to prevent inadvertent or even deliberate changes being made that might have unwanted consequences. I'll take alook at my setup and let you know if I can see anything that might help you. Even if you get Serviio to "see" the iPhoto library, it almost ceratinly won't show the album structure and names. What I did is to export each iPhoto album to a standard folder with the appropriate folder name. These I keep on an external backup disc and Serviio can see these without trouble.

  • Recently purchased iPad Mini.  Could not get it to connect.  Changed router's setting to Channel 6 and IPad connected.  Even after 6.0.2 it will not connect to some home networks although it will to public networks e.g. McDonald's.

Recently purchased iPad Mini.  Downloaded iOS 6.0.1.  Could not get it to connect to Home WiFi using Linksys G Router.  Have another Wifi Network in Home (CenturyLink provided it as a DSL/Router combo).  Would not connect (nor would my iPhone 4s or my wife's iPhone 4) until I accessed the router's setting and changed to broadcast on Channel 6 and then IPad connected.  I suspect the only reason the iPhone were still connected to the Linksys network is that they were before I "upgraded to iOS 6.  Even after 6.0.2 the iPad and both iPhones will not connect to some home networks (its random) although thye will connect to public networks e.g. McDonald's, Panera, etc.
