My ibook G4 shuts off randomly without warning when it's plugged in.
I have a ibook G4 (late 2004) running leopard. I recently (a month or so) installed a new HD, since original finally failed. I have been running my ibook on power only for 3 years, since my battery stopped charging.
In the last few days my computer has started shutting off completely without a pattern or warning. I hear a single click as it shuts off.
This began when I was using hulu and wanted to plug the video adapter in as a larger display on my TV. In order to do this, I closed the ibook (putting it to sleep) while on hulu. Plugged in the video adapter and opened the ibook. It seemed that my computer had shut off suddenly when I opened to awaken it. I held down the power button to hard reset it, not knowing if the comp. was off or not. A low-long beep came from within the computer and the sleep button blinked very quickly about 8 times or so(too fast to count).
Ever since then I can't trust it to stay on for any amount of time. Sometimes it will shut off as it is booting. Other times it may run for several hours then suddenly shut off.
I am wondering if some other part of this ibook is dying or if I created an issue with the video adapter? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Jason
HI,
Try Resetting the PMU
Might want to run the Apple Hardware Test also.

U410 (i5) Turns off randomly without warning
Hello
I just purchased brand new U410 for my sister. On the first day it turns off without warning, multiple times, but then it survive without any incident for hours until I shutdown it properly. I thought it was faulty driver and the bundled windows 8 need an update. I updated the windows 8 and installed all the driver available on Lenovo Support website. Well it runs perfectly fine for few days, then I give it to my sister as a birthday present. Yesterday she use it for the first time for browsing the internet and creating presentation then the U410 just turned off without warning. She turned it on but after few minutes, it's turn off again, repeatedly. She gave up and cry. As a brother who gave her the laptop, I have to responsible to make it works.
Next day I try to use it for work, and it's happen again, turned off without warning multiple times. I decided to take it to store where I purchased it. It works normally perfectly and smoothly without any trouble. i felt like a fool. Then when I get back on my desk, use it for few minutes then it turned off, again and again.
I'm not an expert on computer technology, I'm just a basic user. I read the other forums, they said it can be solved by re-install or tweak something, honestly I don't have that capability. Taking it back to Lenovo Service centre is difficult, I live in rural area in Indonesia with limited internet and transportation support.
I have try to change the power management and nothing happen, it just turn off suddenly. I've spend more than 24 hours downloading drivers for nothing. I need help and already desperate. Lenovo? Help.
PS. My laptop is U410 bundled with Windows 8
Serial Number QB06157482
In the box there was only the laptop and charger. Nothing else, not even a disc or thumb drive.
Sorry for my poor english.CPU temperature is completely fine.

Why does my iPad shut down randomly without warning?
My iPad will randomly shut down while I am using it. The battery is fully charged. I can beonthe Internet or een reading a book and the screen will o black. When I "restart" it, it goes ire toy back to screening was using. Any ideas why? Yes the software is current.
Generally? it's like when a computer crashes. the operating system gets over whelmed and shuts down or reboots.
Sometimes it's not that big of a deal, other times it may be caused by an app with a glitch or error. Sometimes your iPad is fine, but the app has an error in it.
One thing to do is to do a reset. hold down the sleep and home button for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let it reboot. Often if there's any sort of glitch or 'oops' the reset and reboot will allow the iPad's memory to clear and resolve the issue. -

MBP shuts off randomly when not on charger
I've had my MBP for a while and for the last year, when my laptop isn't plugged in, it shuts off compeltely without warning. Just wanted to know if it's time for a new battery or a hardware problem.
Battery Info:
Full Charge: 5330
Remaining: 5208
Amperage: 0
Voltage: 12294
Cycle Count: 81
And of course, this is while it's plugged in.Hi wpetraska;
When I got my MBP, I was having the same problem. Since it was brand new, I took it into the Apple Store. They looked at it and told me there was fault with the logic board. It would have to be replaced. Two days later I got it back and it has worked great ever since.

Have an iPhone 4 that is now shutting off randomly including during calls. The iPhone is roughly about five months old. When the iPhone shuts down and tries to restart it usually take two or three times before it stays on, but when it does it sometimes has a dark line down the center and shuts off. Not very happy about the iPhone doing this. The store we had purchased the iPhone 4 from suggested that we contact Apple to see about a replacement, or send it away for service. As you can tell we are not happy at this point since the iPhone is crucial part of our day for work and family. What should we do at this point?
Thanks for the suggestions!
Except I tried all those before I even made this topic lol, but thanks!
I Already popped out the Sim Card & let my phone sit without it for a few minutes then put it back in. Sometimes it will work again & it will say it recognizes the SIM Card but more times then not it still says it cant recognize it! So I have to take it out & reinsert it multiple times.
& I have done a complete restore 2 times & a back up restore 3 times. Nothing seems to be working.
I am planning on going to the Apple Store this week, wish me luck!
But keep the suggestions coming if you have any, I'd appreciate it! -
IdeaCentre a730 shuts off randomly/overheats
IdeaCentre a730 shuts off randomly, especially when you play a dvd or do other graphics intensive stuff. I ran the Lenovo fan diagnostic utility and it doesn't detect any fan. I also ran speedfan, it doesn't show any fans either, but it does show the temps of the cpu cores. I've never seen them get below 100F. If you're not doing anything, they will stay around 115F-140F ish. The fan is on. When I use handbrake (which converts between video codecs) the fan kicks into gear and speeds way up. So, the fan does blow. Also, I tried one of those laptop cooling pads (with 3 fans). It seems to run about 5 degrees cooler, but I still get the random shutdowns. I also tried running it without the cover, and that will drop the temp about 5 degrees (on average) also. So, What temps should this thing be running at? Does running the Lenovo fan diagnostic (and having it not find a fan) mean the fan isn't working? Even though the fan blows? How do I get a new fan? Or, is it something else...? Lastly, I couldn't find anything in the BIOS regarding fan settings? Thanks.
Hi Mezzi
Yes, the clogged cooling ventilators and bad air circulation could cause such high temperature and could lead to the point where the notebook would shut down automatically to prevent the hardware from damage.
You should also know that all internal devices would run with best performance while playing a game and due to high heat dissipation the temperature would arise to a critical level.
Therefore it's really important to ensure that the cooling grilles are free and not clogged by any dust and other objects...
Anyway, you said that your warranty is still valid and therefore I would strongly recommend contacting the ASP guys (authorized service partner) in your country and to explain your notebook issue.
I'm sure the technician could help you!
Good luck and best regards mate. -
IPhone 6 shutting off randomly
My iPhone 6 shuts off randomly after using the camera or camera apps and during texts. It also needs to be plugged in while it still has 28% battery left. Anyone else? I restored and activated as new without any resolution to the problem. I am being told it's probably "an underlying hardware problem." Not thrilled.
To rule out a software issue, set it up as new device without using the latest backup, explained here:
iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device
If still problems after that, get it serviced:

My macbook shuts off and I kept a journal for it because mine's got complications.
July 1, 2014 (Tuesday)
I spilled a cup of choclate milk on my keyboard, it was soaked! But my battery was drained so I know nothing had short out. So I turned it over and never tried to turn it on.
July 2
I went to the nearest apple center and asked them to clean it for me. (I knew it wasn't a good idea to clean it myself) They put it in a plastic bag but I asked them to open it as soon as possible so I know what parts are affected. They told me they'd take a picture of the inside for me and go back after an hour. Milk was still inside everywhere so I asked them to take it in.
July 8
I called to get an update on my mac and they said it wasn't economically practical to repair it because they recommended a full system replacement. I got depressed and accepted my Mac's fate. But what's annoying is I put my mac in on July 2 and they only tried to clean it in July 5 which makes me think that was the reason my mac was irreparable.
July 9
I took my mac and tried to find another opinion but I showed the diagnostics from the apple store and they said they couldn't fix it. My parents were getting ready to buy a new one.
July 13
I realized that my mac didn't have charge when milk spilled on it so I tried to charge it and BOOM IT OPENED. They keyboards were sticky and it takes a moment before my computer reacts to the trackpad but it works! Even all the keys works! But it doesn't charge.
After lunch, it was workingp perfectly and my batteries were at 30% charge! I was really happy!
(in the interval my mac works perfectly, it stays for normal 7 hours when battery is charged fully)
However at July 19
There was no electricity for four days (A typhoon came in the Philippines) and my battery is about 7% so I went to the public market to get it charge while I wait for electricity. I charged it for about 3 hours and sideways because it was inside my backpack while it charged so noone will notice it. When I got home and opened my laptop, it shut off randomly after my desktop appeared after start up. So I was sad.
July 20
I found a solution online to use the option-shift-power button my mac opened and worked normally!
July 21
My computer was normal in the morning then in the afternoon it shut off again after I waked it up from sleep. Tried option-shift for about 3-5 times before it worked with varying intervals from 5-20 minutes each
July 22
I get nervous when I use it but it worked perfectly I was even able to edit with Final-cut pro and HD clips.
Wednesday
Worked perfectly in the morning but in the afternoon, after waking it up from sleep it won't turn on tried the option-shift then I tried resetting the SMC for about three times (my mac is a unibody) but it didn't turn on the whole evening.
Today Thursday morning July 24
I tried to reset SMC first thing in the morning after the thing won't turn on. After about an hour, I tried to turn my mac on normally and it opened. So what I did is to back up all my files. (It took the whole afternoon) and at night I ran diagnostics (D during start up) and no threats were found
Haven't been experiencing the trouble, as of the moment I'm writing this Jul 25, Friday (12:13 AM) HK time Philippines.
So what I'm asking here is what do I do to make sure this doesn't occur anymore. I probably written a very detailed log. So what else (diagnostics and other) should I do to prevent this from happening again. School starts in August and I will need my laptop to work perfectly to let me go through college with less burden. Thank you and I hope you reply. Any more questions about details on my Mac will be answered

Mac Pro keeps shutting off randomly
Hey guys,
My Macbook Pro keeps shutting off randomly. Its been doing it for a few months now and I was finally able to restore it to factory settings to see if that would fix the problem but it hasnt. Sometimes it will shut off every five minutes, other times it will be maybe once an hour. I've noticed that it is more likely to shut off when I'm visiting youtube or watching a video/viewing a site with lots of pictures.
By "shutting off" I mean that the screen goes black and I have to hold down the power button until it completely turns off and then restart it.
When I turn my computer back on it sometimes has a reason for the problem, which I copied and pasted below:

some 15-inch Mid 2010 MacBook Pros are known to have a defect in their NVIDIA GPUs. Given the symptoms which you’d described, yours might have that defect also. Apple had a gratis servicing program for three years from the MacBook Pro’s date of purchase; they still offer the servicing, but it is no longer guaranteed to be gratis. I’d recommend that you make an appointment at your nearest Apple store or Apple-authorized service center, to have them run their Video System Test on your MacBook Pro, which will confirm whether or not its NVIDIA GPU has the defect. -
Hello, I am running Mac os 10.6.8. It is shutting down without warning when I walk away from the computer for about 5 minutes. It happened twice. It was not asleep, i had to turn the computer back on...Any ideas...

The next time the problem happens, note the date and time the problem occurred, then go to Applications/Utilities/Console and copy the log starting at the time of the crash. Paste the log in a reply. Please do not use a screen shot as they can be hard to read. If there are repeated runs of the same messages, please post only one run. Be selective about what you post and don’t post huge amounts. Brand new Thunderbolt display shuts off randomly
I've had a new ThunderBolt Display for less than a month paired with a brand-new Mac Mini (2.6 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3, Intel HD Graphics 4000)
and the display just began shutting off randomly.
I also have an external HD drive daisy chained via the display's Thunderbolt port that stops working once the display dies. Tried connecting the Mac Mini alone with no hard drive figuring it might be the drive but no the display still randomly shuts off. Any ideas or suggestions before I call Applecare?I have a similar setup and problem. My Thunderbolt display (refurb, purchased in February 2012) will randomly turn off, as if it went to sleep - but mouse/keyboard input does not wake it back up. The internal speakers will still output audio. Disconnecting/reconnecting the Thunderbolt cable from the attached Mac Mini (2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5, OS X 10.7.5, AMD Radeon HD 6630M ) will not resolve the issue. Disconnecting/reconnecting the display's power cord and the Thunderbolt cable from the Mac Mini will resolve the issue temporarily. This began happening maybe a month or two ago, and has probably happened 10 times in the last 30 days. It is completely random, and I have yet to be able to duplicate it on demand.
Steps taken to attempt to fix the issue:
Confirmed Energy Saver Settings
Confirmed Software up to date (OS 10.7.5)
Attempted Firmware Updates (message states not needed)
Reset NVRAM
Reset SMC (unplugging computer)

As well as other discussions concerning random flickering issues with the display.
Since I'm still under warranty, I took my display to a Genius Bar today. The rep didn't really seem to want to hear about what I found on these discussion boards. He says you can pretty much find anything you want to find here, and since it is unmoderated it is not a reliable source of information. I let him know that the issue (as far as I can tell) occurs with different models of Mac Mini's, MB Pros & MB Airs, suggesting it is in fact an issue with the display and not what's connected to it. I added that most folks who reported bringing the displays in for service ultimately ended up with a replacement display, as the service done on the defective display proved to not resolve the issue - but I would of course defer to his judgement.
He decided that they would order and replace the LCD panel. He assured me they would keep the display powered on for 12-24 hours after the service to ensure the issue has been resolved. Truthfully, I am not optimistic. And for the amount it costs to replace the panel ($833.32 from the provided estimate), I speculate this course of action will end up being much more costly for them in the long run. But we shall see!
I will be sure to provide updates as they come. Wish me luck! -
IMac G5 non-isight shutting off randomly
My iMac g5 keeps shutting off randomly during use. I have a niMac G5, non-isight and it stays on for 30 mins, an hour, or 3 hours and then shuts off as if someone is pulling the power cord out.
Upon starting up, sometimes it doesn't make it to the login screen before shutting down again. It runs normal for a while, then it would randomly turn off. I have downloaded heat temp monitor programs and it seems to get to about 70 degrees celcius sometimes. Upon restarting, I get the "report problem to apple" screen with this information. I have tried to restart the power supply too.
