My ibook is "sort-of" dead" please help.

after installing a third-party application, my computer started acting up, Parts of the picture would stop and just go black...things just got worse; Now the computer does turn on, but I dont hear the start up noise, all I hear is the fan running and the CD-Rom running as well. No picture. Im not sure if its a virus, or something worse. Ive tried resetting the pram and the pmu, I tried to boot up from the cd-rom ( which is now stuck in there ) Please help.

After leaving my ipod hooked up to my computer for most of the day yesterday and resetting it a couple times, it actually turned on and started working. But the battery died almost immediately, so I am guessing it is the battery ... maybe?
Any thoughts on how to go about getting a new battery? I am not great with technology and don't even see how to open the ipod so that the battery can be replaced.

I apologise for my English from the very beginning. Be patient please...
I see from older topics that I am having a rather common problem. I just got this iBook G3 900 MHz 12' 680 Mb RAM from Ebay. It lasted 5 days (working fine) and then it suddenly died.
I have already tried all possible key combinations for PMU resets and carefully read the help page in case when a portable won't start. No good.
Here are the synthoms more in detail: The battery would not charge (it has only 1 flashing light out of four and I was warned before it died that its charge level was getting low). The ibook now don't start, even with the power adapter hooked up.
If this can help, the ring light on the adapter cord is green when the battery is on, and removing the battery turns the light to amber.
I started reading Internet discussions and it sounded an DC in-board problem, and I've already found a replacement from a friend...
BUT...
I did a further test tonight taking the battery for an identical ibook of a friend and when I put his battery on mine, it started up and kept being up only for me to see that the battery level was getting low low low --- dead again. Now, my friend is pretty sure that his battery was at least half-charged but to me it seems very strange that my ibook would drain away all power from a battery in 10 seconds. Can it be a short circuit ???
Back on Internet, I have discovered these Apple discussions, so before beginning unscrewing the whole ibook to replace the DC-in board (I understand this is not the easiest piece to change) I wanted to have your advice on something I might have missed with my "diagnosis".
Could it be the "famous" logic board everyone is complaining about ? The ibook was bought in August 2003 so I am still eligible for the replacement. Could it possibly be ? I though that ibooks with such a problem did boot up...

No problems with your English whatsoever.
Have you tried your friend's adapter with the iBook? Was your iBook plugged into the adapter when it rapidly discharged your friend's battery? It could be an adapter problem. The adapter should show green when the battery is not installed, and amber when it is — exactly the opposite of what you are seeing. The amber light is supposed to indicate that the battery is charging. The green light means that it is NOT charging. When things are working right, the green light means the battery has stopped charging because it is completely charged. When things aren't working right, it just means the battery isn't charging — for whatever reason. Since your adapter is showing the lights the opposite of what it is supposed to do, it's an indication that it may not be working right.
These are the four most common possibilities when the battery will not charge:
(1) there is something wrong with your battery
(2) there is something wrong with your power adapter
(3) there is something wrong with your power input board (the part that contains the port where you plug in the adapter)
(4) there is something wrong with your logic board
To diagnose a bad DC-in board, you need to make sure it isn't the battery or the adapter at fault by swapping out first one and then the other, If it runs from a known good charged battery okay, but won't run from a known good adapter, then you are going to have to replace the power input board.
Usually, if it is a logic board problem, the iBook simply will not run from the battery. This happened to mine. The battery showed up in the battery status indicator. It was recognized by the computer and charged by the adapter (as shown by the battery status indicator). However, when I unplugged the adapter from the iBook, it was just like pulling the power cord from the wall on a desktop. The iBook immediately shutdown. Dead.
My husband’s problem was quite obviously the power input (DC-in) board because the adapter tip had broken off in the port. Often (and, sadly, in our case), this damages the power input board so that it no longer functions, necessitating replacement of the board as well as the broken adapter.
Your experience does not exactly match either of ours. It is my best hunch that if your adapter is not the problem, then it is the logic board and not the DC-in board at fault. However, this is not the problem covered by the iBook Logic Board Repair Extension Program.
Since you already have the extra DC-in board, if it proves not to be the adapter at fault, you may want to try installing the DC-in board, in hopes that will correct the problem.

You should use sort = "server" or sort = "none" .
sort - Use this attribute to activate sorting for the
individual rows and to determine who is responsible for the sorting.
NONE (default, there is no sorting), SERVER (HTMLB carries out the
sorting) and APPLICATION (the application carries out the sorting) If
you specify SERVER, you should also set the attributes keyColumn and
onHeaderClick.

Ibook G4 MOUSEPAD...Please help!

I recently tried to reinstall Tiger on my old ibook G4. I selected the option to erase everything and install. Everything seemed to go fine but now the computer is not recognizing the mousepad at all. The cursor stays in the upper left hand field of the notebook screen. What do I do?

First try to hook a USB mouse up to your iBook.
Then try to reset PRAM and NVRAM:

If that doesn't help then reset the PMU:

Then boot from your Tiger installer and see if that resolves the problem.

Logic Midi Note Dead, Please Help!!!

I am mixing some cues for a indi production. Today I merged two midi regions (region1, and region 2). However the last note of region one now won't play correctly. I need it to be a held not but no matter what I do I only get like a eigth beat staccato note and then silence. This only happens on any notes placed in that particular beat of that particular measure. No matter what not it is I ge the same effect. I've gone through my event list to see if any controllers are affecting it but none seem to be active on that beat. Please help. I really need that note to hold the entire beat.
P.S. I'm on logic pro 9

I've already checked for multiple notes, nada. I can get no sound on the beat, just not a long sound.
It looks right on the piano roll editor. Thats the problem. I can't use the piano roll to adjust the time of the note. I'm writing a song in the piano roll using the esX24 as my synthesizer. So its a pretty basic bare bones set up. I've tried copying other notes to that beat, no results either. Anynot I put on that partical beat, no matter what i is, will only play a short staccato.
Is there any sort of catche for midi data that might have recorded an error?

My Pearl is dead : Please Help

Last week , my pearl (8100)started behaving abnormally. It reboots by itself , red light blinks and shows hour glass for a minute or two and then reboots again.
I have shown to a local cellphone repair dealer , who tried flushing the software and reloading...Nothing worked..he said it might have developed some hardware problem.
But ,Now condition has deteriorated and when I plug it to power to charge the battery, it is not charging and no red light blinking....no rebooting...it seems completely dead.....

After a recommended update early last week,email keeps changing sort function. I set for date and keeps changing it to subject.

My Mail seems to work now.
I should have done a screen capture to show you something.
When I was about to send the message in Mail, a notice came up:
It had 2 mail accounts:
1. Mail
2. my new e-mail address
I think I pressed Mail (if I remember).
However, when I just sent another test message, there was no window warning coming up.
Also, the "new Mail account" has nothing in it like the one that I deleted.
The one that I deleted had lots of material (messsage, sent message, saved messages etc...) but nothing critical.
I can live with that.
The critical point will be when I go to a site and when I want to send a messafge, my Apple Mail account window opens.
So far, your solution has worked even if the second part of your instructions could not be followed.

Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

I've got a 80g classic ipod that is flashing with the apple logo. It was working fine up till yesterday but since downloading a new album and trying to sync its not now. My computer doesnt even detect the device is there now. I initially tried restoring it but it went into the flashing apple logo ststus after about 10 mins. I've had it just over a year so is now out of warrenty
My iphone is working fine with itunes just the classic has nearly died. Please help!!

Find a Mac computer, it should get recognized then do a Restore there. Once completed re connect with your PC

Hello, i need help pronto! my iBook G4, i always thought it was the best computer ever, i've had Mac for several years now and they always work just fine, but the other day i left my iBook sleeping while it charge the battery and when i came back i tried to turn it on and i notice that the computer was off not sleeping, i wierd smell was comming out of the left down corner of the computer and the computer dont work at all, and the battery never charged! i think that the problem is the power supply, but i can be wrong! im clueless and i really mis my laptop! PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!

Alright take a deep breath everything is going to be fine. First off what kind of smell? I have noticed over the years that all Macs, when they get hot have a scent. When you try to turn your computer on any vital signs? Sounds? Lights? Anything? You might want to take your computer to your local Apple Store to get an evaluation from a Mac Genius. Respond with specifics about everything, you get better responces. I wouldn't be surprised if you fried it. Maybe surge, but its hard to tell.
