My iBook library is empty

My iBook library shelves are empty. When I tap on the iBook icon, the previously filled shelves appear and are empty. The screen then arbitrarily goes to blank book pages that won't turn. Also, there are nom icons at the top of either the shelves or the book pages.

I would say to make sure that you have selected Books in the upper left corner from the collections button but if blank books are appearing with pages that will not turn ....
Close all open apps - including iBooks. Go to your home screen. Double tap the home button to bring up the task bar. Tap and hold down on any app icon in the task bar until it wiggles. Then tap the minus signs in the corner of the app icons to close them all. Then restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut down. To power up, hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears. Try the app again.
You can also reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple logo appears - ignore the red slider. Try the app again.

Restore ibooks library mac

I have had to put a new hard drive in my macbook so I restored it to my latest Time Machine backup. I also have a clone of the old hard drive on another external disk. I have had soooooooo many problems with this Time Machine restore, I am definitely changing my backup software from now on. Anyway, my iBooks Mac library didn't get transferred. I went into my old cloned drive and copied over the whole /Users/name/Library/Containers/BKAgentService to my new drive but iBooks still cant see that I have books there. When I open the application I get this:
I cant just redownload the books from itunes because they arent from there originally. Even if I go into the blank iBooks library and try to add all of my books to that, they just don't get added...
Preferrably I want to have a symlink to the ebook files and keep them on a separate drive. I tried doing this as well as having all of the files on the actual internal drive but neither way worked.
Any suggestions on how I can restore my library? Im thinking there must be another file outside of this BKAgentService folder that manages the library but I dont know where it would be...

Problems such as yours are sometimes caused by files that should belong to you but are locked or have wrong permissions. This procedure will check for such files. It makes no changes and therefore is not, in itself, a solution.
First, empty the Trash, if possible.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

got your message about making sure to use the machine specific disk that came with my machine. Unfortunately, Apple no longer sells Tiger replacement disks. I've got a couple of bids out on ebay, and will update when I have news to add to this post.

To be clear you called the 800 number and explained what the situation was, old machine and lost the original DVD's?
Just checking because if you just called and tried to buy the DVD's they might tell you they no longer sell them but you aren't really trying to buy them your trying to replace the ones that are missing.
Ebay may work but there is a certain specificity to the DVD's required which, even if they seem right, might not work.
Good luck either way. If you get a chance when you get the DVD's I'd be interested in hearing how it all works out.

How can I make multiple computers share one iBooks library?

I have several computers with which I sync my iPad. I loaded a bunch of PDFs into iBooks onto my iPad from one of them *but* the PDFs do not show up in the iBooks library on the other computers. If I click on "Sync Books" on one of hte others it asks me if I want to remove all the existing books on the iPad which I most certainly do not. How can I keep the iBooks library in sync on these multiple computers?

Books and pdfs aren't synced. Bookmarks, highlights and collections can be synced across devices. pdfs downloaded onto an iPad can be transferred to a computer when connected using the USB cable.

If you have given correct info about you ios 6.1.3 - all you need to do is delete account. You will be able to sign in with new one afterwards. Make sure you don't delete any info when you see those prompts.

Some things that might help:
1. Only the most recently used apps actually occupy memory (used to be the most recent 4, but may have changed in the latest iPhones). After 4 (or so), IOS writes them out of active memory, as it does for even the latest 4 if there's no activity for a long time. So the business of closing all the open apps, apart from the most recent ones doesn't make a difference. Tis article has a good explanation:

2. There are settings about background app activity that might help:
- Settings, General, Background App Refresh controls which apps can update their data in the background
- Settings, Notifications controls which apps can tell you things, which they have to wake up to do.
- Settings, Privacy, Location Services controls which apps monitor your location - another activity that uses resources

When I try to move a PDF file to iBooks the system works for a while...sometimes the file appears and than disappears....sometimes the file never appears. It sounds like you may be experiencing issues on your non iOS 8 devices because iOS 8 is required to set up or join a Family Sharing group.

Family Sharing requires a personal Apple ID signed in to iCloud and iTunes. Music, movies, TV shows, and books can be downloaded on up to 10 devices per account, five of which can be computers. iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite are required to set up or join a Family Sharing group and are recommended for full functionality. Not all content is eligible for Family Sharing.

Anyone know how to change the size of PDFs in the iBooks library?

I was wondering if there was a way to increase the size of the thumbnails for PDFs in the iBooks library on your iPad. It's hard to read them at this default size and just about every other app in creation (several of them modeled after OSX's own file folder display system) will allow you to zoom in on thumbnails or change the orientation so that they are grouped in a way that makes them easier to see. My kingdom for a slider-majigger at the bottom of the screen!
Anyway, does my request make sense? Also, am I missing something, or is that feature just not available?

You can adjust the time of each slide in the slideshow settings, which you'll find above the thumbnails of the slides when you open the photo album on the Apple TV.
Note, not all of the slideshow options have time settings.

After installing yosemite and the latest version of iPhoto all my photos want missing. I have tried everything but my library is empty. Why on earth apple changed iPhoto. It wasn't broken who fix it. I am seriously consider to get ríd of my iMac

Where did you store your iPhoto library? On an external drive or your system drive?
iPhoto will create a new, empty library, if it cannot open or find your previous iPhoto library.
If you upgraded from iPhoto '08 or earlier, the iPhoto library needs to be prepared with iPhoto Library Upgrader. See this link: iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrader
If you got error messages during the upgrade of the library, restore your iPhoto Library from your most current backup.

I was listening to a station on iTunes radio and now my library is empty. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

I was done listening so I closed iTunes and eventually I shut off my computer. But the next time I turned it on and opened iTunes my entire library was empty, and the playlists were set to the system default. I tried doing a system restore to my laptop but that didn't change anything. I'm really hoping there's a way to fix this without reloading my entire library song by song, or (and this is the absolute last resort) contacting Apple. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate any help!

Help! I moved my songs, and now my library is empty

I just moved all my music from the My Music folder on my hard drive onto my external HD, and I followed all the directions in the iTunes Help file. But when I restarted iTunes, the entire library was empty.
Is there a step here I'm missing? How do I get iTunes to recognize where my library is? I already went into the Preferences -> Advanced menu and changed the location of the library, but it still doesn't show up.
I'd hate to have to manually re-import all the songs (well over 1000 files). Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I just did the same exact thing (but recovered!). I hope you didn't empty your recycle bin/trash yet! Your library information is there - get it out!
The instructions on the web are a bit obtuse - what you need to do is delete ONLY the "iTunes Music" folder within the default iTunes location; I deleted the ENTIRE "iTunes" folder and saw exactly what you do now. You need to restore the "iTunes Library.itl" and "iTunes Music Library.xml" files, and you'll be back in business.
Not sure how you'll recover if you can't get those files back...

I moved my iTunes ver 7 from my full hard drive to an external hard drive. It worked fine, was able to synch iPod. Then I upgraded to ver 8.0.2 and when I open iTunes the library is empty. I changed the "path" in the Preferences/Advanced window but it didn't help. I know my music is still there- the folder shows 38.0 gb, but how do I get iTunes to find it? Thanks for any help.

Move the iBooks library to external/different hard drive?

Hi! Is it possible to move the iBooks library from its default location on the boot drive (where the iBooks-application also resides) to a different hard drive?
Currently all my ebooks and PDF’s are kept in the default „Books“-folder in the home-library on the SSD-boot-drive of my Mac where the iBooks application is also kept by default (path: Users/„username“/Library/Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService/Data/Documents/iBo oks/Books). Space is getting narrow on my SSD-boot-drive so that I would like to free up approximately 20 GB by moving the entire iBooks library to a second internal HDD-drive of my Mac or to an external USB-drive.
I have not been able to find any instructions on the internet on how to move the iBooks library nor have I been successful in any of my experiments to move the „Books“-folder. What I have tried is the following:
1. I moved the original PDF-files away out of the „Books“-folder to a different drive and placed aliases from these files in the „Books“-folder. The result is that the iBooks-application will simply re-create a full size copy of the original PDF file in the „Books“-folder. I.e. no saving of disk space!
2. I copied the „Books“-folder from its default location in the user library on my internal SSD-boot-drive to a second internal HDD-drive, erased the „Books“-folder at the original location and instead placed a hard link at the original location. I verified that the hard link is working and pointing to the right location on the second drive. The result is that the iBooks-application will not recognize/show any of the PDF-files at the new location. Trying to re-import the missing PDF-files into iBooks results in the message „This book is already in your library. Do you want to replace it with the one you’re adding?“. By clicking on „Yes“ the same message returns infinitely often. I.e. no successes!
3. I repeated the same procedure as described above under 2. using the „iBooks“-folder which encloses the „Books“-folder (along with three other folders) with the same results as before. I.e. no successes!
(path: Users/„username“/Library/Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService/Data/Documents/iBooks)
Does anyone know how to successfully move the iBooks library to external/different hard drive?

I was in on the Mavericks beta, when iBooks was introduced. You can not believe me if you want but it isn't currently possible to store the iBooks library on external storage at this time. The ebooks must be on the path ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService/Data/Documents/iBooks/Books for iBooks to function properly. Any other method you may find to accomplish what you want will be unapproved and could break at any time.
