My iBook randomly wakes up after I put it to sleep.

30 minutes or so after putting my laptop to sleep it wakes up. Sometimes it goes back to sleep, but other times it stays awake for a period of time. Why could this be happening?

In addition to my previous post on sleep that Adrian so helpfully provided a link to, read the following;
A number of sleep-related issues can appear after incremental Mac OSX updates, including the inability to properly go to sleep, problems waking from sleep, and having your display go to sleep without your Mac going to sleep. The most common culprit is Bluetooth. Try these tips to fix your sleep problems.
WAKE UP
In System Preferences>Bluetooth, uncheck Allow Bluetooth Devices To Wake This Computer. If you are using a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, you'll have to wake your Mac by pressing the power button.
FILE CORRUPTION
Your Bluetooth preference file may be corrupt-you'll need to delete it. Turn Bluetooth off, then go to the /Users/user name/Library/Preferences folder. Look for a file called com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and trash it.The OS will create a new preference file when you enable Bluetooth again.
ENERGY SAVER
If you have issues with a Mac or display that goes to sleep at inappropriate times, you may have a problem with Energy Saver. Delete the following .plist files and restart:
-/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
-/Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist--(username is your name or System Administrators name).
-/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist
A restart is very important after deleting these plists. After a reboot your Mac will then generate new ones.
In some cases, running MacOS X's cron tasks-maintenance that the OS performs automatically if you leave your Mac on 24 hours a day-can resolve many sleep problems. If you don't want to leave your Mac on, you can use MacJanitor, Yasu, or OnyX free at Versiontracker.com.

When my iMac goes to sleep either manually or auto sleep, when I try to wake it by pushing return on my keyboard, pushing on my trackpad, or hitting the power button in the back I get an either greyed or medium blued screen. When I wiggle the trackpad, like a mouse shake, the cursor traces white blotches all over the screen and I have to hold down the power button to restart. This has been going on almost since I went to Lion but it was about every third time. Now with Mountain Lion it is every time it goes to sleep.
Are there any fixes out there or do I have an internal issue? Thanks

It will look just like this:

I am sure that it get disconnected because I check the router traffic from another MAC and it get disconnected.
No mother if its connected by cable or wifi, it get disconnected.
In Energy Saver properties "Computer sleep" is set to "Never" and "Display sleep" is set in "10 minutes".
"Wake for network access" is checked but it will never work if network get disconnected.
"Automatically reduce brightness before display goes to sleep" is checked
All the other options are NOT checked.
I hope someone from this community can help me with this issue.

My iMac will not stay asleep. A few seconds to a few minutes after I put it to sleep, it comes back on.

OK, a few more things coming to mind:
Set the energy saver to sleep in 1 min
Diconnect every single peripheral you have connected to your iMac
Eject any DVD/CD you may have in the drive
Turn off all applications you have running
iTunes or DVD Player could be waking it constantly up if accessing your drives
Messaging apps could be looking for internet connection
Disable Wi-Fi
Disable Bluetooth - you don't have cells paired to it, do you?
Disconect Ethernet cable (if connected)
Spotlight - is it indexing your drive? (a dot within a magnifying glass would be pulsating and won't let your Mac go to sleep)
Connect a wired mouse - if you have it - and go to Apple menu then click SLEEP
If it remains asleep, keep adding all apps, devices and services back until you find which one is causing it.
If nothing helps, then I'm out of ideas....
In case you have Apple TV - the remote can indeed make it wake up.

I'm encountering the same issue with my mid-2011 iMac 12,1 restarting after being in sleep.
I want to try deleting some startup files/folders as listed in your previous post. When it comes to the following:
/private/var/run/StartupItems
/Library/StartupItems
/System/Library/StartupItems
/System/Library/LaunchDaemons
/Library/LaunchDaemons
Do I delete the entire folder or just the files in each folder? Do I delete all files or am I looking for some in particular?

Sometimes it wakes up moments after I put it to sleep

I push the power button to make my iMac goto sleep. Sometimes it will come right back on a few seconds after doing so. I push the power button again and this time it goes to sleep without problems. Does anyone know why I'm experiencing this with my Mac?

I've had many similar problems when I was using a PowerMac G5 Late 2005 Dual 2.3 GHz: it simply did not stay asleep! I then found that when I wanted to stay in sleep mode indefinitely I had to unplug the ethernet cable from the Mac, since it located ethernet traffic even if the "Wake for Ethernet Network Administrator Access" option was turned off under the "Options" in the Energy Saver Control Panel, in System Preferences... Until I found that glitch, I even brought it to the AppleCare in my town to check for that strange behaviour.
Now I have an iMac 24" (eraly 2008) 3.06GHz and that option is turned off, and when I put it to sleep (in those very rare occasions, I must admit!), it does sleep indeed!
I hope I have been of some help.

MBP wakes up after being put to sleep

Several times the MBP wakes up after it was put to sleep, the battery runs down and it overheats inside the bag. I don't have any idea what wakes the computer, could it be the motion sensor? What can be done?

My wife's MBP started doing this after upgrading to Snow Leopard. So, after six weeks of hearing her complain of it when she forgot to close the lid, (I realize it still wakes up with the lid down, but since she only unplugs it when she uses it, that hasn't been an issue.) she finally let me look at it. I found using her System Monitor that the active app was Dashboard. When I told her, she said "I haven't run that for months, that couldn't be it." But, persisting, I opened Dashboard to find that she had a clock that kept local time. With her permission, I killed the clock and her MBP hasn't woken up on it's own since.
So, try running System Monitor to find out what's running after it wakes up.

I've got a dual G5 running Panther and I put it to sleep when I go to work in the morning. Last night, I wanted to try out Tiger (yes, I know - I'm way behind the times) so I installed it on a FireWire drive and booted off it for a couple of hours to see how things worked. I then went back to my internal Panther drive, and everything is ok except for one thing: when I hit "sleep", it goes to sleep, the screens turn off, and then for some reason I immediately hear the internal drives spin back up and the thing turns on again!! Why can't it stay asleep?!?

Sleep is one of the activities controlled by the PMU. A reset of the PMU may

what settings will be cleared by this (what will I lose and need to set up again)? any system Settings, firmware updates, or whatever?
Also, I trust that you have reviewed your Energy saving preferences to confirm
that they are set to allow sleep, and not to disturb said sleep?
which ones in particular? I think they're fine but maybe I'm missing something that got munged somehow. Where are the "disturb"-type settings? I've got "wake on LAN access" clicked off for example. What else is there?

G5 Shuts down after I put it to Sleep

Why is my G5 suddenly shutting down all the time when I put it to sleep .... I come back to use it and I have to power it up each time ?

To log a sequence of events:
Open the Console application, located in Applications/Utilities.
Click Logs in the toolbar.
Click the triangle next to a log to see more available logs.
Select the appropriate log and click Clear.
Perform the actions that produced the problem you are troubleshooting.
Read the messages that appear in the Console window.
Hello .... I can't seem to find where to " Search " and enter " Shut Down " .... I have opened Console and and able to open the triangles on many things ... This is one of them ... is this the correct one below ?
ALSO - about 4 - 5 years approx. after the warranty expired I had a problem with the power supply and Apple Canada replaced it and the Mother Board free of charge $ 1300.00 would have been the cost there abouts ... Does this mean the same thing is happening again ??? I doubt if I have the info and the paperwork for that repair ( dumb me, I wish I did now ) .... Is there a way for me to find that info with my serial number ?
If so - do you know why it would happen again and if so , is Apple still prepared to stand behind their product once again ?

Computer keeps waking up immediately after I put it to sleep

I've got a dual G5 running Panther and I put it to sleep when I go to work in the morning. That is common and in my sleep tips;
"USB devices and hubs often cause Macs to not sleep or wake quickly from sleep (notably HP printers and scanners, HP all in ones, and Cannon scanners). Disconnect all USB except for keyboard and mouse and try. If it sleeps, add one back at a time testing after each one to find the culprit."

GT70 BSOD or Stuck after Windows puts it to sleep mode of turns off monitor

Hi Everyone!
i have an issue (or 2) with my laptop.
both happens when:
1) whenever i put the laptop into sleep mode or either windows does so automatically (inactive period), - the laptop will go to sleep just fine.
2) windows turns off monitor after a period of inactivity. (sleep mode due to inactivity was disabled in this case)
in both the cases i mentions above, if i wake the computer within lets say 5 minutes, it'll turn on just fine.
but after a certain period of time passes it wont.
with the sleep mode, the computer will wake and will then produce a BSOD STOP error 0x4 and restart.
with monitor turned off it'll simply wont turn on, not responding to neither keyboard, mouse or power button. - i have to do a hard reboot
any ideas?
anything i can check?
note the laptop just came back from a warranty repair, so all parts have been tested and been found ok!
system specs:
MSI GT70-0ND
CPU: Intel Core i7-3630QM 2.4GHz (Intel GPU HD 4000 included)
Memory: 16GB DDR3
Storage: 750GB HDD 7200rpm
128GB SSD (Patriot Pyro SE) - OS installed on this.

i dont think i have the same problem as in the other thread.
my bios:
my laptop doesnt restart when my screen is turned off and i try to wake it. it would simply wont wake up.
and my BSOD happens only after i wake the laptop from sleep mode and only if it been in sleep mode for a while. meaning i if i wake it up within a few mins of going to sleep it'll boot justfine.

Since downloading Maverick, my iMac turns itself on, even after I put it to sleep. I go away and when I come back, it's switched on!!!

IMac switches back on, after I put it to sleep?

My system often switches back on, after I have put it to sleep, so have to put it too sleep again, any idea what is going on?

Go to the Applications/Utilities folder and launch the Console application. When the Console window opens, make sure that 'All Messages' is selected in the left column, then type 'wake' in the filter search box in the upper right corner. You should see a listing of all the wake events recorded by your system, and a coded reason for the wake event. It will help provide clues.
The following article will help explain the various wake codes and what might be causing the wake event to occur. The article also provides a terminal command providing a different method for pulling up the log entries.
